Well said...You just saved me the stress of typing....I hope this truth will set the gullible lot free....Thank you!
ogbonti:

That’s the big fish in the pond- once they are told the story of how the poor widow cooked her last oil and served the prophet Elijah instead of eating it herself, and how she became forever sufficient- then the gullible church members now see it as sacrilegious not to pay their tithe even if they earn N7k a month. That’s the mind manipulation these pastors carry on their members weekly and monthly thereby throwing their members deeper into abject poverty - And the members will never accept the fact that the man at the pulpit is leveraging on their collective stupidity to maximize his earnings by playing on their emotions. And they will see the Pastor move from being a tenant to build his own house —- they will be clapping for him, He will buy a new car, and say some random person blessed him with it, He will be feeding fine with his family and put on decent designer clothes and the church members proudly put his picture sticker on their door post and booth of their jalopy to help advertise their pastor - He will send his kids overseas to go to school, he will build schools with their tithes that they church members can’t afford to send their own kids to. To add insult upon injury, He will start sleeping with their daughters and commit adulterous acts with the pretty wives of the church members ravaging them with impunity- And when the ministry hits the peak, he buys private jet with their tithes, offerings and seed faith and then continue the insult on them preaching sermons that they lack the faith to make it and that the poor members are suffering from generational curses bla bla bla Hmmmm na wa ! - Religion and Traditional Monarchy is the biggest fraud holding Africans perpetually in poverty and Africans love it more than their very existence so poverty will remain with the people, sadly!

'Just pray for grace and believe' have destroyed the lives of so many youths and rendered them miserable abroad....Who said I've not been to Dubai? ..As a matter of fact I saw many of our boys and girls wasting away and cant even pay for a one-way ticket...I asked them question and it really boils down to your statement 'I just believed I go make am and left'...No valid plans...These boys did no research, learnt no viable skills and just left...Stop deceiving these vulnerable youths...Stop telling them to just believe and pray for grace cos that's misleading.

Even your religion told you faith and WORK must go together...Be realistic and do better!

Good Evening Sir Makky,
I believe you forgot to respond to my query fully the last time due to your busy schedules.
I'm currently processing my application for masters in HealthCare informatics at Middle Tennessee state university. (GRE/TOEFL WAIVED)

Quick background - I'm a 23 year old medical lab scientist(Bachelors degree) and data scientist (Dataquest and google certified). I am proficient in Python, R, SQL, Excel, tableau etc with years of experience in the data world.

Its clear you are a brilliant force and I really need your guidance or tips on how to secure this admission, get quality references (heard it increases the chances of being admitted) etc

Thank you!

Elnon...
I'll try to chip in to your question when I'm on my laptop. Long posts via mobile is laborious.
It SEEMS most schools have waived GRE and Toefl for obvious coviK related reasons.

Thanks Mogenerous for your pointers.

The girls will wear colorful ruched dress, those slippers that have fur, fix very long nails and eyelashes. The one wey dey pain me pass na that pink attachment they use to braid their hair. Then their small handbags that can contain only phone.

Its not everyone that gets funding for a master's program, if your sponsor can cover the tuition then be grateful. Some schools can offer you student employment- not assistantship. From my findings you can pay for your full living expenses on this jobs.

And be positive, do your best to be outstanding in your first semester, and you might just get a good funding offer. Don't be pressured. Keep pushing

Travel / Re: Why Do Your Friends Ignore You When They Finally Travel Out Of The Country? by Elnon: 9:48pm On Mar 09, 2021
This answers it all!!!!
optimusprime2:

Hey I couldn't just ignore this post...
At first I wanted to be blunt and straight out savage in my response, but it ocured to me that your post was honest and sincere meaning you are not aware of certain realities that exist outside of Nigeria, especially outside African territory, so I decided to be very detailed in breaking down certain things for your understanding ...

1. Adjustment: moving to US means moving to a new way of life, new setting, system, culture, environment, norms and practices etc now these aforementioned factors differ starkly from what one is accustomed to in Nigeria, infact strongly sticking to Nigerian norms in US hinders one from integrating properly in the society and that makes one a cultural deviant and of course that blocks one out from opportunities inthe society ... so how can that be avoided? Simple... by adjustment, evolving to catch up, however the results turnout differently with different people, some completely reject the past and move on while others hold on to the past but still look forward.

2. New Associations: there's a saying, "bird's of a feather flock together" look, if you change location you are likely to build strong relationships with new people and these new people tend to make you see the world from their own view, now that has it's advantages and disadvantages...
It's likely they move on with the progression of new association, leaving the old associations behind or pay less attention to old association as it is of less relevance.

3. The reality of being an immigrant: look, no matter how bad Nigeria is, you can never be an immigrant in your own country, you still enjoy specific "privilege". However in the US as an immigrant, it's not the same... firstly you have to bust your butt 24/7 to keep your head above water, you see these things called bills? They are real, and they can end up haunting you, especially if one just arrived and one is still trying to figure it out. Your friends may not tell you of some jobs they are doing just to stay afloat, honestly some jobs that they may have looked down on in Nigeria could be what they do on the regular and they may not have that state of mind to keep up communication with you, because you have no idea of what they are going through... then again maybe they left to the US on a visit visa and the reality of being illegal has caught up... infact ... bros let's stop the explanation on this immigrant life, just know that being an immigrant anywhere in the world is not an easy thing, not many people make it out in one piece at the end of the day... and this point is actually the most important point.

4. Time difference: this may seem like a little reason but bro it creeps up on you trust me... especially when one is working hard to pay them bills. Being in some parts of the US puts you 6, 7 or 8hrs off Nigerian time and that really just knocks it to you at the end of the day that, you live on different worlds. Now some people come to that reality and move on, while others may still hold on to the home team, look it varies across different people but it is a real condition. Relationships have ended due to the reality that time difference is actually a spatial separation.

5. "The Naija factor": I had to put this here because I ain't gonna lie, once one leaves Nigeria, the problems of Nigeria become very visible, appalling and disgusting when viewed from another country (I call it the enlightenment phase) especially in a system where everything works, in fact you ask yourself how you got stuck in a backward oriented system for so long... some people respond by totally alienating themselves from Nigeria or anything that has to do with Nigeria ... including people. Sad, but true.

6. Cultural struggles: This one right here is real... it first hits you when you realize in the U.S. that your accent in a language you thought yourself fluent in, is un-understandable... some people take in that fact very hard, like they literally go through socialization again just to straighten out their accents, sometimes even food becomes a difficult situation, because some people are not used to American food, others literally bump into boyfriends or girlfriends that culturally format them... in essence, people stop associations with people who don't help them in achieving social integration etc so the response level for different people varies

7. Education and training: Nothing is as enlightening as education, and trust me that is usually obtained in the US quickly, merely living in the American society educates you.
Once one becomes enlightened, old habits tend to be dropped, including old friends with old habits... the only thing that solves this particular point is if you are also updating yourself with a similar sort of education or training that enlightens you on the same level, otherwise a gap too wide on that regard, is a gulf indeed.

There are many other reasons but I decided to pick a few major ones to let you know why your stated instance happens mostly.

You said it all...The society is rotten not just the educational system...A very OPPRESSIVE society that's why whenever you see a confrontation between Nigerians, the question 'Do you know who I am?' is always inevitable. 95% of Nigerians yearns for an opportunity to oppress his fellow human being...Same thing the politicians are doing etc...No genuine love for one another in such a very religious country.

Living here gives me allergy and so grateful its confirmed I'm leaving this shithole this year....Wont ever raise kids here..
Clefayomide:

I know this conversation is old, but just to add to it. This happened today. My project supervisor passed a msg that all his supervisees should see him today from 1pm to 2pm and when I got there I met quite a number of people already there waiting for him, that was around past 1. So I also joined them in waiting, we waited for about 45min and it was almost 2pm, then I asked them if anyone has tried to call him to let him know that we are here waiting for him, they replied saying NO that they're are scared to call him lol. I wasn't with my phone so I collected a friend's phone and called him. The conversation goes thus "hello good afternoon sir, I'm one of your supervisees, you asked us to see you today and we are already here waiting for you sir " he replied with a high pitched voice, "you are waiting for me ?" And he hung up. Fast forward to past 2, he came and immediately asked "who among you called me" and I stood up saying it's me Sir, next thing he said you're very stupid, how dare you call me, get out from here I don't want to see you, and I asked while still standing right there "what is my offense sir ?" But he kept on shouting that I should get out, other lecturers present there asked me to obey him and leave. I left and stood outside, he went inside his office, after chatting for minuteesss, he then decided to call people in. I followed them in and upon seeing me he asked me to still get out, what was my offense ? Because I called him ? Ha. He started shouting and said if not that he doesn't want someone's death to be on him he would have went physical with me, ha God! Because I called you ? Omo. He reported me to his fellow colleagues and they asked me to narrate what happened and could you believe what his colleague said ? They said that I'm very stupid, that what right do I have to call him, even if he doesn't show up at all that I have no right to call him to challenge him. Ha challenge him ? When did I challenge him Sir ? Long story short, he attended to every persons except me and what was my offence people ? Because I called him to let him know we were all gathered there waiting for him.
The point I'm trying to make out of this post is that, Nigerian educational system is rotten. Lecturers see themselves as gods and believe they can step on your right and get away with it, Fail you and go scot free.
No check and balances.
Imagine a master's student telling me after the scene that " na money this man dey find just settle the man bro, some of your guys don settle am, you sef do normal"
Such an ewww statement. After today's ordeal, I said to myself it's either I do my Masters outside this country or I don't even do it at all. I so much hate it here I SWEAR
