Not a lot of people realise that Doctors have no idea on what actually makes a patient better, but try telling that to those who think otherwise. As for those labelling it as "mere lab scientist" there is a big difference between a Lab scientist [Mostly lab technicians back home] and a Biomedical scientist. Hence why I just laugh it off. The exotic and tropical disease course, is just a fancy name for "Tropical medicine". Over here, there are very few places with such specialities - due to the part of the world we are located. However, as the "planet is apparently getting warmer" we are seeing more and more tropical disease manifesting itself here in the UK. Also cheaper air travel means more cases are readily detected from people coming into the country. And as most of us will know from basic biology, a disease spread very fast in an environment that have no defence to it. imagine if Malaria breaks out in the UK, loads of people will die as the majority haven't encountered it before, and the symptoms can be easily missed for a bad flu. So tropical medicine will be an interesting area for me to go into I think. |
Environmental sciences was one of the degrees I considered, How ever I opted for Forensic Science and Medical microbiology, before I changed to Biomedical sciences. ![]() The thing is people back home have no idea about man's impact on the environment. The few that know, or that are aware of the issues are not able to make an impact. Our lack of knowledge is evident in how people are willing to take money from foreign companies so as to allow systematical dumping of waste. Anyone remember the "koko waste" fiasco? As someone who grew up in Nigeria, it hurts me to see that some of the beautiful landscapes and natural woodlands [Bush/jungles/forest] are disappearing and making way for socio-economic developments. This is all well, and good but we cannot carry on ignoring the effect of these actions on the environment. One thing that strikes me is that back home, most of our typical waste is 90% organic, how come no one have implemented some sort of waste recycling method? There is money to be made here - one man's waste is another man's method to make money. These wastes can be recycled to give us green technology etc. Overall, I feel we need to do a lot. The climate is changing, and if the theories and evidences are anything to go by, we have loads of difficulties ahead of us in the near future. |
kaydee:Perhaps you need a dose of reality check? Perhaps you need to realise that one can appreciate all without resulting to one person is the best. Just a thought. |
blacksta:I see what you mean. But, running away won't look good on his part. The whole thing is a joke anyway. |
^^ But running from "the law" is just as bad? |
dammiecool:Some people just like to post for the sake of it. It clearly states that the news was from 2006. Gosh. |
War crimes judges have rejected a request to acquit Liberia's former President Charles Taylor on charges of crimes against humanity.I really do not know how one can argue his case. I suppose this is a wake-up call to all those leaders who think they are untouchable and can do what they want without fear of prosecution when they are in power. More here http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/8032365.stm |
Father "can want" all he wants. However, the decision lies with the child. Parents need to realise that they cannot pressurise their child or children to live their own dreams. Each child have what they are good at, not what the parent want. |
julian 21:Can you not appreciate both? Can you not see that both are good in different ways? You comment will result to what exactly, other than more bickering! |
I'm a Biomedical scientist. Glad to hear a few scientists are around here.I am the guy behind the scene. My Job is to help in diagnosis of disease, disorders, analysis, etc and work alongside [/s]arrogant[/s] Doctors. I have worked in Haematology, Microbiology, Transfusion, Biochemistry etc. I once also had the chance to work briefly on a research project on Leukaemia. There is really a lot to learn. I love what I do and will not trade it for anything else. On the politics forum, I mentioned how these field is severely under-developed in Nigeria, and a few ignorant people started saying I am a "mere Lab scientist" and there are a lot of them back home. I just laughed it off, as clearly the persons have no idea what they are talking about. At the moment, I am considering doing something that would make my expertise even more useful back home. Perhaps something in "tropical and exotic disease". |
We can speculate all we want, we just will never know. Until it happens. He wasn't hating. How come naija people cannot take criticism? Gosh ![]() |
What is the point of this thread, when there are a few already discussing the same thing? ![]() |
Why does it have to be one person or the other. Please enjoy music for what it is. ![]() |
Who is the best? Pac or Big. Nas or Jay z. Who is better Rugged or Mode? We have seen these sort of questions over time around here and quite frankly, I think we may all be wrong as to who really is the best. As I lay here - thank god it is bank holiday - listening to some of my collection it allows me time to reflect and write this piece. Personally, I feel it is hard for anyone to be the best. Each artist have unique sets of strengths and their mass appeal, but to label any artist as the best, is just a bit silly. I love Tupac Shakur and when he died, I cried - something I never did when my own dad died - However, no matter how passionate I feel about his rap, I feel reluctant to label him as "The best ever". The reason is the diversity of HipHop and the rap game itself. When I listen to all my favourite artist, I actually find that the reason I am listening to them is due to the fact that they offer something else the other favourite artist aint offering. Biggie had the flow thing going on, Tupac had the lyrical power, delivery and a matching charisma. If am going to be honest, it would be silly to rate one of them as the best due to those reasons. Mode have his strengths, so is Rugged man. To dismiss the strengths of these artist and label M.I as the best thing since slice bread is just silly. The point I am making is that, no one is the best. For someone to be the best, then it means I am not listening to no other artist and hence have a limited understanding of music. No one can ever be the best ever, hence let us enjoy music for what it is without the constant need for comparing people. Meh Just my two cents. ![]() |
^^ Watch out for an alternative forum soon. Half of posters here probably wont make the grade. ![]() |
^^ See, that is the thing! A brawler [or a Pub brawler as some are saying] stand no chance against a fighter like Pacman. |
You want me to send over 300 tracks of old school music? That is like asking MJ to give up his Beetles catalogue. No way man. I would send a few tracks when people make request. Not all am afraid. ![]() |
agabaI23:One. I am human, so contradiction is one of the behaviours I am expected to exhibit. Two. I mentioned that "It warmed my heart to see the goodness of my people". Where is the indication I believed it? A story can warm my heart, without me actually believing it . Lord of the Ring warmed my hearts. Do I think it is real or believable? |
^^ If that is your argument, that it shows how in-organised they are. This kind of request is a massive bargaining chip. Imagine if the Israeli called on say Hamas to help fight another enemy, they [hamas] would milk that chance to the very end, by keep tabs of records, proofs etc. It is a massive bargaining chip and as such, I would expect them to keep records if it actually happened in the first place. Mend only knows how to send emails claiming this and that, Very easy for anyone to do. |
I have an accoustic guitar, but gosh never got round to learning how to play it. If you are in the UK, I can send you the two dvds that teaches you how to play. ![]() For me, it is just one of those things that you either learn it from a young age, or just forget it. lol |
^^ Given the current state of Nigeria, some would argue that a military intervention may be necessary. If people do not want one, let them fix up. |
Nice idea. I have over 300 tracks from the 60s, 70s 80s and 90s of hard to find Sunny, Obey, Barrister, Kollington and some other indigenous artist like Prince adekunle, Dele abiodun, Dele Ojo, Fela-anikulapo-kuti, Good women choir, Herbert Ogunde, I.K dairo, Idowu animashaun, Kofi sammy, Lanrewaju adepoju, Moses Olaiya [baba sala's play], salawa abeni, shina adewale [Shina peters and segun adewale before they became famous], Tunde nightingale, tubosun oladapo, Terracota [Gboyega femi], sonny okosun. ![]() Cool aye?I will probably upload them at some point. I actually have the whole "Prince Nico Mbarga" Sweet mother album. What makes my collection unique is the old vinyl flavour that comes with it. I bought a usb turntable and converted all my dad's collection to mp3. Anyone who knows the value of real old school can hallo at me for some. Just name the track and artist. |
Kobojunkie:Oi! Think positive about Nigeria. ![]() |
Link not working. |
God and not the people? Okay, no comment. |
blacksta:Don't be harsh, He may truly not have a clue. ![]() |
idupaul:You do have the choice of ignoring the thread you know. Acting as a "one extra" sucks and very childish. ![]() |
I am a bit sceptical as MEND lost all reputation in my eyes. Having said that, using violence to hang on to political power is a common occurrence in a Nation like Nigeria. |
