CultureFeatures Of A Witch/wizard by Emmahunk(op): 10:07pm On Jul 13, 2016
Just thinking.....

I hail from Benin City where the talk of witches is common place.

One of my abiding memories of visiting home those early years was my cousins pointing out 'witches' to me and advising me to avoid them in my own interest.
We even had a special place all confessed witches were banished to. It is call EKON'RHUE. A small hut somewhere in IKPOBA SLOPE.

Each of these witches was female, old, living in the thatched mud hut, and seemingly miserable and wretched. All witches were said to be extremely malevolent.

Unfortunately for my well-meaning cousins, and fortunately for me, those 'witches' who happened to be aunts were particularly fond of me and I happily discountenanced all the tales of witchcraft and enjoyed their company as much as I could..... Even though I still CAST AND BIND.
Now, those were the days.

Anyway, I held onto the image of witches painted in my mind as a child. That image subsisted until President Buhari developed interest in witch-hunting.

You know, sometimes the chasm between what you believe and reality can be very wide indeed. I am now happy that I ignored my cousins because those aunts of mine were no witches at all.

President Buhari has shown us that witches are mostly male, urbane, driving exotic cars, residing in palatial mansions, and maintaining permanent suites in 5-star hotels.

Witches are business men, also called whiz kids (it doesn't matter that they are in their 60s) whose only claim to stardom is that they collected billions of Naira in loans from our banks and proceeded to live large without any plan whatsoever of ever repaying the loans.

Why else are they whiz kids? Anyway, a whiz kid must necessarily be a witch. Don't you agree?

I now know that witches are state governors who pocket a large portion of their state's resources and owe civil servants for months on end without any thought for how those workers will provide for their families, or take their sick children to the hospital.

Witches are senators who draw more pay than their colleagues anywhere on earth, but still want to craft a life pension for their leaders, with immunity from prosecution for their criminal activities as a bonus.
Witches are army generals who shared money meant for the purchase of armament among themselves, while our soldiers, our children, were being slaughtered by insurgents because they had no weapons to fight.
These generals bought exotic cars, built mansions, and drank the costliest champagne knowing that they were drinking the blood of young men and women under their charge that was being spilled on the battle field.

Witches are army generals who court-martialled soldiers who dared protest their sorry state and had them sentenced to death.

Each time anyone comes on Facebook to accuse the president of a witch-hunt when one of these witches is called to account for his misdeeds, I know exactly what they are talking about.

Witches are men who rather than defend themselves of whatever witchery they are being accused of will claim they are being witch-hunted because they do not belong to the ruling party.

I have also learned that all witches are not equal. Little witches are those men and women struggling to make ends meet, but who will use their scarce resources to come on Facebook and defend the big witches making their lives hell.

Okay, I know that witches big and small are expected to have one another's back, but ... Interestingly, the female folks have more representation in the sphere of small witchery than in the world of big witches.

The snag here is that the big witches do not care a bit about the little witches. Such is life.

If I have nothing to thank President Buhari for, I must be grateful that he has straightened me out on who is a witch. There are no witches in my village.

All the witches are in our various state capitals and the Federal Capital Territory, wearing designer clothes and sipping designer spirits. Malevolence is their name.

*ARE YOU A WITCH?*

RomanceRe: Boyfriend Is Finding Out Details About Me From An Unknown Source. Help!!! by Emmahunk(m): 9:11pm On Jul 10, 2016
mamagee3:
Hi all, I and my boyfriend have been together for about five months and he has my photo and everything but he is finding out details about me from an unknown source such as my middle name.

I didn't tell him my middle name and he has no other way of knowing it. He texted my middle name to me this morning and I woke up to see it.

I'm confused as to know he's finding this out. I only gave him my first and last name. What should I do?

He has neither met any of my friends nor any of my family members

Is he stalking me?
It's a global village my dear, a relation or close friend could have saved your number with your middle name. In such a case, true caller will surely tell him without sweat.
Besides, if you are not cheating on him and you have no skeletons, why bother?

Why not accept that the crisis is difficult to result this time because ;
1. There's no more billions of unaccountable Naira to wet their throats each time they scream.
2. How about thinking that the best brains in the "share the money party" are gone?

With people like this, how did anyone expect Jonathan to succeed?

The foot shown in the decapitated leg does not appear to be that of a woman or looks like that of the smiling woman in the picture.
First, before she went missing, she first announced on fb about a road trip. Had she been announcing her previous actions.
Secondly, the name, "deep deal Chacha De hammer" !
Finally, who did she and the friends hammer in a deep deal that they are trying so hard to fake a death with this decapitated body?

This is how people with little or no understanding of the Quran quote it out of context in order to give 'Islam' a bad name. What you have to do is find a Quran with English translation. Then read those quotes from the 1st verse to the end NOT just the quoted part.
Your comment would have been more helpful if you had bothered to take up just one of those quoted parts and given us a complete quotation and meaning of it.
If I had known the full quotation, I wouldn't have asked for clarifications. Let's learn to tolerate and understand each other rather than accusing each other always.

Christianity EtcIs Islam A Religion Of Peace? by Emmahunk(op): 3:59pm On Jun 13, 2016
I am a Christian to the core but because many of my friends and colleagues are Muslims,I have continued to search for knowledge and understanding.
A Christian brother sent me the following questions with quotations from the Koran. To a layman like me, they sound like simple A B C but with my little knowledge of the Bible, I know that at times, quotations might have their interpretations. This is why I have brought this here for our Muslim brothers and sisters in Nairaland to help us out.
Please matured contributions only. No tribal or religious hatred. please.

RomanceWhy The Long Courtship? by Emmahunk(op): 9:47am On Jun 11, 2016
Over the years, I have been taking stock of the marital history of my peers and it has been quite revealing.
Albeit I am an advocate of courtship, I have always hated long courtships especially when they are directionless. What's the essence of keeping someone's daughter tied to your apron string for five years, only to come up with incompatibility nonsense as excuse?
Victor and Alfy were the closest way back then. Every one thought that their wedding bells would be the first to ring until the two became almost professional best man and chief bride's maid at each of our cliques' wedding.
They flowed so well that we all believed that they both had their reasons since money was not the problem.
Some of us however, showed the first signs of worry when they started attending our baby naming ceremonies while still courting. It had been six years of solid courtship. Still we were all confident and trusted their judgement. Victor, was a one girl man or so we thought while
men were scared of saying hi to Alfy for fear of Victor's political and financial background. Then, one day, out of the blues, Victor came up with the "incompatibility excuse" and all of us that tried talking sense into his stinking skull turned enemies overnight. To say that Alfy almost died is an understatement and I don't intend to bore you with the details either. Within six month, the same Victor that courted for six years, was married to an actress he met on flight. Today, he has been married three times and divorced three times without even a baby to show.
Alfy, picked up the pieces of her broken heart and is happily married to a moderate income earner and blessed with three kids.
Victor, is just one out of many of us out thre, why the long courtship ? What you can't notice in a girl in one year, can't be noticed in ten years.

Sir, I will try to give you an honest advice even at the risk of being called names by some toddlers. on this forum who do not understand jack about your dilemma.
For now sir, relocating them here is a big mistake. F**k the so called culture for there is hardly any in place anymore.
I have tested both waters and have come to the conclusion that a rude child is better than one that is dead or kidnapped.
What you call moral decadence is now an acceptable norm in the Country you want to run back to. Secret cults are no longer found only in Universities and higher Institutions but right now in Secondary and Primary schools.
And these ones are more deadly.
Some okada riders and keke operators are cultists too.
So tell me sir, do you prefer a child that bends on a knee and greets you good morning but turns into a terror once he leaves your presence or the one that tells you 'hi dad' in the morning but can be vouched for.
There's a transformation going on right now, maybe and just maybe
in the next two years or so, God willing, Nigeria will be that your dream Country.
Christianity EtcAre You A True Moslem? by Emmahunk(op): 7:52pm On Jun 07, 2016
It's another fasting period for our moslem brothers and sisters and I honestly believe it is also a very good opportunity to share a short story with all of us. This has become very necessary especially at this time that there is so much religious hatred and division among our youths.
Please, to satisfy your curiosity, I am a Christian but since a course mate told me this story far back in 2009 at Jaji, I have learnt the true meaning of love.
According to Alhaji Dogari, there once lived two neighbors whose houses were separated by a fence. One was an Imam and the other a pastor. Both lived alone and hardly see each other. The Christian hated the moslem so much that every morning he throws a pack of faeces over the fence. The moslem on the other hand would pack the faeces and dispose of it without uttering a word. This continued for a couple of years until one morning, the moslem came out to pack the usual faeces but saw none. He was surprised but waited patiently for the next morning.
On the third day, he was so worried with the absence of faeces from his neighbor that he was constrained to cautiously venture into his compound. He however, met his Pastor neighbor at the point of death and rushed him to hospital. He had been sick for those three days. The pastor had regained consciousness only to see his moslem neighbor sitting beside him.
The reconciliation was awesome.
Now, I have no doubt that if a Christian had told this story, the roles of the two neighbors would have been reversed. Which ever way it goes, the underlying factor here is love. Please let us learn to love ourselves no matter their religion. Fasting to the Almighty Allah with ethnic and religious hatred in your heart might be equal to starvation as no blessing is bound to come from it.
For fellow Christians, the Bible says, 'the prayer of a sinner is abomination unto God'. Are you making supplications unto God with religious and ethnic hatred in your heart? Beware.
As our brothers and sisters of the moslem faith go to Allah in Fasting, let's pray for them too.
We have come to be one and nothing can change that except God.

I TOTALLY disagree with you op.
For starters, the accent is never meant to intimidate anyone but something they have been used to.
On local dishes, many people coming home most often could hardly wait to taste the good old local delicacies.
Old friends most times feel uncomfortable in their midst except the few who have done well for themselves back here.
Working in a Country where your rights are respected and your worth valued gives one a sense of self worth. Often this is misinterpreted as pride or a feeling of arrogance..
On their love for bottled water, I think that hardly makes sense because many guys that live in Nigeria hardly drink nothing else
Be patient with them and you will understand their great joy in being with their own people.

Recently, I overheard two teenage girls discussing passionately on this topic. I felt goosebumps all over me as they both agreed that it is better for their Dads to die before their moms.
Honestly, I have been thinking about this without getting a clear cut answer. I have even asked colleagues. Now, I am asking Nairalanders.
In a family where the eldest child is a teenager, is it preferable for the dad or mom to die first?

Why is it difficult for us to be objective in this Country yet we expect change?

If we find it difficult changing our way of reasoning, how can we objective enough to recognize the 'change' when we see it?
