I don't see the point really. Tribalism wasn't as disturbing as we see it play out now. Under the military, Lagos had an Igbo governor. I believe some southeast states had yoruba/hausas. My brother, very very high now. Military is even cheaper sef. All this billions they are spending on campaigns and elections for nothing can be used for better things abeg |

Fab21: Sincerely, I've thought about this before. This is what I'm going through at the moment. See, your background to some extent would determine how far you'll go in life..
If you're born from a rich background, your case is minimal as a Nigerian.
If you're from a poor background, you've a lots of work to do; that's the butter truth.
I know there's a place of Grace, hardwork, luck and God factor. But irrespective of these factors, most of us would've gone far if we're from a good background. Though there shouldn't be a place of excuse if truly you're hungry for success.
But however, rigorous processes before you breakthrough can even cost your life.
I'm perfectly sure that no one is useless or born without any potentials but for you to make it in life especially in this country, your background really matters.
Your background will determine how far you'll quickly go in life.
The rich kids always marry from there circles. You should ask yourself why ?
Some guys out there will tell you they're into business; all kind of business. But there are things that I've clearly seen: is that some of them opt in into fraud the begining and then divert the money to set up businesses! These I've seen a lot.
Ask yourself are they not diligent enough ? Why do they need to go into fraud first. Some will tell you I've an idea, but no money and nobody's ready to give you a dime.
Hence, they think the best way to get funds is to go into fraud and start up their business be it music, tech and the likes.
A friend of mine in school graduated as BGS. The guy's good; I must say.
Honestly, I didn't expect him to be in Nigeria by now! This is what Nigeria/background factor have caused.
Someone said Zukerberg would've not have become a facebook owner if he's a Nigerian. To some extent it's true.
I know, no pain no gain. I know, no glory without story.
But when these persist for long during the process, you might give up and venture into illegal stuff.
You can't be drinking Garri and you expect to think outside the box. You can't be in hungers for days and you expect to think well.
Look at the some of our recent hip-hop artistes, some needed to go into fraud before they could get some money to release their singles, demo and the likes.
I began to see recently that there are some prayers that will be useless in developed countries.
How can a Nigerian be praying to get Job after school? Once you've your certificate shouldn't you get a reasonable job? If there's a working System. This tell us that we've a bad system. People praying for their businesses, admissions and all kinds.
Most pains, ignominy, depression, frustration would've been minimal if you're from a rich background and have a working System.
But with respect to all these, even if there's a working System and a rich background, some people will still find 101 reasons why things won't work out for them.
I've a business idea to set up a cyber café but there's no capital. Because getting a job as a graduate in this place: is like a Carmel going through an eye of a needle.
To survive here, isn't easy especially as a graduate.
It's well. Hmmmmmmmmmm |

ZIMDRILL: independent thinking is their in our DNA is there but culture and tradition has groomed us not to question elders
Most african cultures and tradition view questioning of elders and taboo, hence whats is called generational curses but todays churches are just a vicious cycle due the fact that if one wants to do things outside the box he casted out family or looked down by society You are right |

seguno2: Especially those who are mentally poor and intellectually disabled.
Do you think that is why the northern elites refuse to educate everyone, and prefer to have them as almajiri?
Is that why Tinubu and other southern elites are following the same path of creating agbero thugs by refusing to engage teachers for the free education of all children They just don't care about whatever we turn to. Theirs is they don't want masses that will give them headache so that they can enjoy their tenure with massive looting and if being thugs and almajiri is what will solve that problem for them, so be it. |

Racoon: "Some yorubas behave like illiterates, like they cannot reason and tribalistic. Even educated ones living abroad which is beyond shocking. These are the same people that always cry racism abroad since they are more darker in complexion and more susceptible to racism, yet championing tribalism.
The sensible ones should call your foolish ones to order, because this thing is getting out of hand. Go on facebook and twitter, even so-called South South have had enough from you people.
If you don't want One Nigeria anymore, fine, agitate for your yoruba nation, so you can keep your Lagos to yourself, simple. But now, we are still under One Nigeria, anyone can contest, it's left for Lagos indigenes to vote their choice. This is how civilized people and nation work!" Common. We all know Nigeria is not civilized and things can't be done in a civilized way. When you do a copy and paste of white system, it doesn't work exactly here in Africa. You have to twerk it to fit our environment, thinking etc. They brought education but the one we are practicing different - Teachers always at school gate in the morning flogging students with koboko etc They brought religion - we take am twerk am - night vigil, prayer mountain, fasting, sacrifices etc. Even the oyinbo way bring am no do like that. They brought democracy - we don twerk am. If you no be my tribe or no vote for my party no come polling unit. Africa na waaaaaaaa |

Morocco is currently one of the biggest tourist destinations in world, the government are really making huge revenues from tourism. Wish Nigeria government could invest more in tourism like other Africa nations Tourism can't survive where there is high insecurity. Bokoharam, herdsmen, kidnapping, militancy and co have all been too shown on international tvs to put enough fear on tourists. They will rather go somewhere |

Work hard by engaging in building project, other small jobs until economy improve. One thing people should know is understanding their environment. Nigeria is a 3rd world country and not yet designed for white collar jobs en mass. To survive it, you have to go into blue collar jobs and commerce which most graduates struggle in |

Acidosis: There is poverty in the South East and, indeed many parts of Nigeria, because people like you refuse to travel to the South East to make the economy better. But one thing I noticed is that, of all trainings and teachings, Commerce seems the hardest to learn. Medicine, teaching, farming etc seems easier than commerce (buying and selling) Only a handful of people or tribes have taken that bold step to painfully learn and master it - Chinese, indians, Pakistanis, lebanis, Igbos, Jews, hausas too |

Klass99: You cannot blame fathers from the 60's to 90s alone, the people of this generation are as much to blame. We have a herd and zombie mentality in Africa, when it comes to marriage, children, japa and other things. You write very well and i love it. At the bolded.........You are right and it is the reason why i hate following the crowd. I like it solo and going the other way even though there will be a lot of noise and distractions. Critical and independent thinking are not common in our DNA - we are quick to do things because it is expected of us, people just do what is expected of them without thinking it through. - True. Many examples abound. Had a family friend that was warned against marrying immediately after NYSC without a job but he wouldn't listen. He doesn't want to lose his heartthrob and after so many back and forths and threatening everyone, he was left to his faith. Married and has given birth to 2 kids in one room. Always calling and begging for money. The wife sef don show am shege when love has disappeared in the face of poverty. I have blocked him on my phone due to incessant begging. When people are making mistakes and we try to correct, they try to shut us up with mind-your-business mantra. We say this not because we hate them rather their decision making will one way or the other affects us in future and that is what i hate about poor people who don't plan. They give birth to children that will be thieves and armed robbers tomorrow terrorizing the streets and disturbing the ones that are just managing their lives. Some will turn to junkies selling drugs to boys on the street and their girls will turn to street hookers etc. Salary may not be within their control but is child birth also out of their control? - Exactly. They don't have any excuses and it is still this poor decision making affecting their lives they will take to polling unit en-masses and again vote the wrong candidates. Their decision making will always reflect in other areas of their lives. People don't take the time to find themselves, figure out how they want to live or figure out what is important to them in life, they just run with the herd. The best decisions I have made in my life, are decisions I thought through, decisions that I didn't allow others overly influence. I typically went in the direction that people said I shouldn't go and I am better for it. - Again. i agree with you |

pansophist: True.
But a smart leader should see that the cake is up for the taking, and sharpen his knife and fork, and grab a larger piece. How long will our manufacturing companies and policies remain mediocre?
If it will take an external power to reset our orientation, then so be it. The cat has been let out of the bag already. Afcta has already being signed by Nigeria. So grade yourself. Compete or die. It's that simple.
Huawei hold the most 5g patent, and has some of the best camera in the mobile industry. Those guys compete to the core, that even the champions of free market and no trade restrictions are imposing sanctions to prevent their monopoly.
And that's exactly how we get better. You don't relax. You put on your shoe, wear your gloves, tie your helmet, and compete to the bone. Grab your spot at the table, and make them respect you, even if they hate you. At bolded is not as simple as you think. If the ground is open and fair, some people will naturally dominate the others due to many factors and that is why LAWS are made to protect the weak from the strong over-running them. Laws like gender equality at place of work to protect the weak (women) from getting jobs else stronger males will over-run them. Cabotage laws were made in US, Canada and Nigeria as a case study to protect the local workers from being over-run my better foreign experts. Local content Law was made to protect the interest and flourish local ship owners against fierce and better foreign shipowners and investors. There are many ways laws are twerked to protect local economy and manufacturers. A country that throws it's border open wide does not have the interest of it's people at heart. China is just 1 case of a country that was lucky to grow above this shackles, many countries didn't survive it. Poland, Croatia and many EU countries didn't survive it. Their jobs, companies etc were exported to more fierce fighters like UK, Germany and France while most of their youths were forced to leave their homelands by train to go look for jobs in these stronger countries. |
