I will prefer an articulate, coordinated and precise passer in Carrick than a Gerard thats all about motivation
Also while making this comparison lets check position of play. As a midfielder, Gerard was shyte.
Passes? break-up attack? intercept passes? he failed woefully. The only position where Gerard stands above Carrick is in starting an attack.
Thats why he has functioned more as a supporting striker than a midfielder. he is just a motivator with no real footballing contribution
