FTA (totally free) football today (all times = Naija time): 1. Wolfsburg v Stuttgart Nilesat 7w, Dubai Sports 1 @ 15.30 2. Bayern v E Cottbus Nilesat 7w Dubai Sports 2 @ 15.30 3. Chelsea v Newcastle W6 21.6e 2M National @ 16.00 4. Rangers v Aberdeen Nilesat 7w (also 26e and 30e), Al Jazeera Sport 1 @ 16.00 5. Bordeaux v Rennes NSS 7 22w TV Monde Africa @ 19.00 |
Those who get W3 at 7e; can you get MBS? It seems one MBS is now FTA on 10976 V 3333. |
Ah, yes indeed; I remember now. In the UK, the Digi TV package is currently what many hobbyists are focussing upon since Premiere (19e) that was most popular for films and football went secure in Nagra 3; pity 1w Ku band is not possible in Naija. |
@ olofofo What channels/frequencies can you get on 1w (or 0.8w); are they C band or Ku band? The reason I ask is that 1w is currently the best orbital position where very good channels are open with keys. Specifically the Digi TV package in Nagra 2 has been open for about 2 years now - though some fear it will go next year. Plenty of films and football. http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/digi.html |
@All, I have a crazy Idea here! , Since Sirius 4 at 4.8E and W3A at 7E are "close" to each other (theoretically speaking, by a 'distance' of 2.2 degrees), let us explore the possibility of installing two seperate LNBs on a 90cm dish!! Something tells me that this experiment will succeed , ! I am already on my way to fix an extra, modified, adjustable LNB arm to my W3A dish!!! Let's organise for a gift for the first Nairaland forum member to succeed in this! Oh, and post your pictures too for all to see, !!
It should work as the signals from the two satellites are strong enough, I think. |
@Ecowas4all Remember to set your receiver for C band reception i.e. {LNB setting} set to 5150 (instead of Universal/9700-10600) and to use a C Band transponder. |
Well said, santavista! ![]() |
Santavista I understand your post very well; but think of this: 1. The incident has already happened; the ratings have already beaten the lady ---- what is our immediate priority now? Is it to say the lady should have got out of the way --- what does that achieve now? Or to say that those responsible should not get away with it and to shout that progress for the future means admirals and ratings should not be allowed to show such lunacy again. 2. Have you heard of Rosa Parks? If so, should she have done what she did or should she have followed your approach? |
enitan2002:These people are just basically selling and installing FTA systems. They are only one or two steps above installers here like Pitodenz or badaru. For example, a client comes to badaru for FTA; badaru says I can supply and install a system (dish and receiver) for you; small dish for only 68.5 or big dish for Nilesat. That is all they are doing. I am not against them at all and they will be useful for people who are not hobbyists like us or who cannot go through the trouble of installing a dish themselves or looking for the best value-for-money receiver. |
Mecussey and Santavista Your emphases are mistaken! It is this kind of failure to address the real issue that means it will take a long time to make progress. Look I shout and repeat: it is IRRELEVANT whether or not the lady was "stubborn"!!!! Should ANYBODY (admiral or president) have such powers that mean other road users should be intimidated ![]() Or do you want us to return to the days of the cretinous lunatic called Babangida when the whole of Ikorodu road from Fadeyi to Ketu would be closed even while the lunatic was still at Dodan barracks, just because he wanted to go to the Airport? Open your eyes and minds; don't be slaves for ever!!! |
Directed @ Heads (post no 257) I am going to assume that you seriously believe what you wrote and are not being tongue in cheek. If that is the case, your defence of the ratings' action, even if we go on your claimed version of events, betrays a lack of understanding of some basic issues and a staggering blindedness. Witnesses at the scene of the incident have corroborated the fact that the lady in question brazenly refused to give way to the Admiral’s convoy and went further to confront the ratings when she was challenged.1. Why should she give way to the Admiral's convoy? 2. Is the Admiral above the law? Is there no prohibition extant on the use of the siren? 3. Even if there is no prohibition, why can the Admiral not follow the traffic and queue like everyone else? 4. Why should the lady be challenged for refusing to give way to the Admiral's convoy? 5. In any event who are these "witnesses" - or do we just take your word for it, knowing your bias? She later willingly stepped out of her car to assault the ratings to the amazement of passers-by. This part of the scene was mischievously left out of the video footage posted on the net. A closer look at the video however indicates that the girl was only trying to create a spectacle for the admiration of onlookers. After the ratings left her alone, she still went after them and called for more. In the ensuing struggle, the girl deliberately wriggled out of her shirt so as to create the impression that the ratings stripped her naked (you can have a second look at the video). She had the guts to act in that manner because she knew that as a lady she would get the kind of public sympathy she is presently enjoying. Even a man wouldn’t attempt what she did. Anyone who has the guts to assault armed military/police men needs to have his/her head examined.1. Again which "witnesses" told you these things? 2. Even if she stepped out of the car to assault the ratings, does that justify the actions of the ratings as seen on the video? 3. In whose mind or eyes does a closer look at the video indicate that the lady was trying to create a spectacle for admiration? In the eyes/mind of reasonable, fair minded observers or biased, unthinking defenders of military brutality? 4. In whose mind or eyes did the lady "deliberately wriggle out of her shirt"? In the eyes/mind of reasonable, fair minded observers or biased, unthinking defenders of military brutality? I really empathize with my Admiral. This is a man widely known in social and official circles as a gentleman of honour and integrity. This incidence has no doubt tainted his name. I am however convinced that he would be able to defend himself and his men as is expected of any gentleman officer. I urge you all not to judge him by this singular incident. The Admiral is a man you would love to meet and associate with.1. At this moment, is it for us to believe that the Admiral is an honourable man or is it for the Admiral to step up to the plate and prove that he is an honourable man? 2. Was the Admiral in the convoy at the time of the incident? If so, did he allow his convoy to force other road users off road? Did he allow his convoy to use the siren? Did he allow his convoy to bully other road users? 3. If the Admiral was not in the convoy, does he usually: (a) allow his convoy to force other road users off road, (b) allow his convoy to use the siren, (c) allow his convoy to intimidate and bully other road users? 4. In order to prove that he is an honourable man, what does the Admiral propose to do about what has happened to this lady? Will he discipline the ratings? Will he continue to allow them to use the siren? Will he continue to allow them to intimidate and bully other road users? 5. Will the Admiral publicly apologise to this lady and the Nigerian people about this incident? Think on these things for now - if you have logical answers, I have more questions. |
Very good piece Maddox, appreciated. One point though: the patches that allow watching encrypted channels without subscription are emulators --- so are not merely enabling the receiver for CAS. This is why I am so far cautious in my references to Strong receivers in Nigeria and, specifically, their ability to open eTV (68.5e) with right keys. ![]() |
olason:Olason, it is perfectly fine to post feed frequencies/details; it is not illegal to watch them or to give the frequencies especially when the feed is unencrypted. I think F_Marshal was just concerned that the providers may switch to another feed frequency if they notice that hobbyists like us are aware of the first frequency; it is not really a big concern though and there are many sites dedicated to feed hunting which post details of feeds found. One of the leading feed information site is of course www.satelliweb.com PS thanks to all those who've shared information and experience including maddoxj, sathob etc etc etc |
@ pitodenz pitodenz:Erm, yes and no. A basic card reader, strictly speaking, is not a CAM just some gadget that can read some cards. A CAM also is not simply a card reader (as it can do more than read cards) but most CAMs can read cards. @fasone fasone:This can only mean that the receiver was patched at some point. Original software that will come with the receiver on manufacture will not allow keys to be put in or things like 8282. Having said that, I notice that most Strong receivers in Naija are patched and I have been wondering what kind of arrangement exists between the manufacturer and distributors to achieve this. Regarding your problem, the likely cause is that the patch in the 4650 receivers may be out of date. You see, if a patch is old and a provider tweaks its encryption, then a new patch will be needed to catch up with the tweak. See, I also have a receiver (Phoenix Apollo MC-CI) which is patched but will not work with Showtime/ART keys - simply because the patch is out of date and is not powerful enough to keep up with Showtime's tweaking of their encryption. On the other hand even that same old patch is still good enough to work with other providers e.g. on 5e and 1w. Thus your receiver's patch might still be good enough to open eTV but too old/weak to open Showtime/ART. Edited If you go into Menu-System Information, you should be able to see the date and version of the software in the receiver; then go online to look for the most recent patch that you can find for the receiver and compare the versions/dates. For example, I just did a brief search and could find patch 198 of April this year for that receiver -- there might even be a more recent patch, for all I know. |
Gangsta Sorry again to hear you are still having trouble reviving the receiver. In fact the various things that you have tried are what I would have suggested including using Dreamloader like 225./ (Aside: in fact, I am almost certain now that the iclass is an Hivion receiver). For now, the only other thing I can think of is to suggest that you try another computer; also, did you try another cable as you said you would? |
Olofofo, I thought you once said you got Al Kass on 26e, or was that on the 2.4 dish? |
Devil's fingers, mate; devil's fingers, I tell ye! Of course it's not RJ 45; it is RS 232 and indeed it is the cable you pictured i.e. both ends are female. Use official Loader and official software to do it -- or is that what you are doing already? In which case try unofficial material as well. Sometimes, you have to try it a few times before you 'hit' it. |
pitodenz:If the receiver is Irdeto embedded, the only way it will accept Conax and MyTV card is if it has a CI slot and you insert a Conax CAM into that slot such that the CAM will then be able to accept the MyTV card. @ Enitan If you have space, I think a 1.8m motorised will be a good idea; while I have no proof, a part of me thinks it might just be able to receive some transponders on Nilesat; if not, you can always try 26e, where the channels are essentially the same thing as on Nilesat. By the way, I don't believe you guys really mean a 6 meter dish; I think you mean 6 feet which is more like a 1.8 to 2 meter dish then. @ baba Egun Yeah, they've been running Promos on MBC Max for a little while now (Nilesat 11938 V); I might keep an eye out for their launch. |
Ah Gangsta, sorry to hear about your receiver. To revive it, first try the forced update method which means you need to try and load the software using a PC/laptop and null modem cable (RJ 45) instead of the Flash Disk. For this purpose you can also use official loader and official firmware from the manufacturer's website. When the receiver has been revived, you can then try again to patch it. The modalities are that: - you download relevant loader and software to your computer - connect computer to receiver but making sure receiver is switched off - start loader and try to send software to receiver - then switch on receiver The receiver will be forced to accept the software and if the software is not corrupt, the receiver will be raised from the dead. You can use generator power (with plenty of fuel) when doing it, if Nepa cannot be trusted. Good luck with it. |
@ sleekymag Some tricky yet important questions there: however, in my opinion, they do not belong on this thread; let them be dealt with in a particular thread of their own. @ obinna A very wise post. General The continued preaching of the Old Testament law of tithing in whatever disguise simply has to be opposed because of the bondage that its teaching in modern times places Christians under. It is simply enslaving and placing in bondage those who have been set free. Of course, no one condemns tithers or even their choice to do so - especially where it is an informed choice; it is the false or wrong teaching of it that invokes vigorous opposition. |
Tithing was part of the Law; after all even the Matthew 23:23 that is often referred to in support of modern day "tithing" basically says so. Moreover, some of the passages quoted above say so explicitly - "commandment ,,, according to the Law" in Hebrew 7:5. The fact remains that "tithing" simply has no place in Christian doctrine; of course, those who choose to can tithe; no one condemns them; that which deserves of condemnation is wrong or false teaching or manipulation today to guilt-trip misguided people into "tithing" and servitude. |
simacoltd:Welcome to simacoltd too! ![]() ![]() |
Hey maddoxoj A very big welcome and thanks for droppin' some science like that. From your use of 'BUD', I'm assuming you are based in North America? Edited Ah, I see you are in Abuja! Hmmm, maybe I should really relocate to Naija soon sef! Anyhow, I really and sincerely hope you stick around because I can sense that there will be a lot of things you can help with. Cheers! ![]() |
@ Gangsta I think Eureka! Check towards the bottom of link below - software for both 9595 x and 9595 Xii. Once you have correct software, loading softcam or entering keys should be a doddle. _http://hv-softwares.ifrance.com/ ![]() Edited: Oh nooooooooooooooo false alert; it seems all the software on that site are for the Hivion series (unless the iclass is a Hivion in disguise). ![]() |
In view of your last post, have you seen the link below and is that your specific brand? _http://www.dailykeys.com/today/softcam_iclass_9595x_pvr.html ![]() Edited I've just found something interesting. The link below has software for iclass 9595 as of 26/08/08 which is quite recent; however while I think, this is a patch I think we should double-check that it is not official software. Check _http://www.sony-sat.com/SW/Sonysat/software_en.php |
@ Gangsta I don't know that particular receiver but I'll sniff around in a moment. Also, if you can post a picture of the keys menu that might help to spot something. I suspect that the patch on the receiver might be out of date i.e. since the previous/current patch, the providers have tweaked their encryption which means some receivers need new patch. I'll give you an example: until about two days ago, many patched receivers could get Digi TV package on 1w but since a tweak, only some brands of receiver (e.g. Technomate series) with up to date patches can receive it. Back to topic though: I know that some Comag (aka Silvercrest) receivers use Ali chips and owners of one type have inordinate problems with patching, while owners of the other type do better - though with some rigmarolle for even they as well. |
@ Gangsta Ah no, I wasn't aware of new postings on the other thread; I'll have a look now. |
@ Gangsta What to remember is that when we say 7 west for example, that means 7 degrees to the west of 0 Longitude; so, the thing to do is identify one's own longitude and then work out where the satellite is relative to that. For example, Lagos is about 3 degrees east; that will mean that Nilesat will be about 10 degrees west of Lagos. Of course, though, the most critical thing is whether the beam is firing in one's direction for one to be within the footprint or at least to be able to receive signals even if outside the official footprint. Edited I forgot one more important point! It also matters whether one's latitude is below or above the equator. The communication satellites are generally around the equator in what is known as the Clarke Belt (after Arthur C Clarke), who publicised the possibility of using that area in 'geo-stationary' orbit for satellite communications. Thus even taking one's longitude into account, how the position of the satellite is described depends on one's latitude; for those of us above the equator, the satellites are either east or west of South while for people in say South Africa, the satellites are east or west of North as they see things differently from us. ( Now edited too) Edited again! Regarding the beam the way to look at it is this: you are standing in the dark, at one particular spot, holding a torch (or 'torchlight' ), you can point the beam of the light in whatever direction you want - regardless that you are standing in just one position. |
@ sathob and olofofo You can use 'SatTracker' on www.lyngsat.com to see a geographical map of the location of the satellites out there. See link below for Nilesat. http://www.lyngsat.com/tracker/nile101.html ![]() |
It seems that the Radix DT 100 is not all that popular; also, it seems that what to do is to convert it to another receiver (e.g. Skycom). If sathob has time , he should google 'radix to skycom' or just the two main words or 'convert radix dt' or something like that. WRT Radix generally, the best link I found so far is: http://www.sat-television.com/forumdisplay.php?f=660 ![]() |
With regard to dishes and obstructions, what F_Marshal posted is correct. Even if you are within the official footprint of a particular satellite and in a strong signal area, your dish and receiver will not receive good enough signal (if any at all) if there is an obstruction in the way such as a house or a tree. The reason it seems that houses etc in Naija are not obstructing dishes is not simply because of the footprint or strength of incoming signal but rather the angle from which the dish is receiving the signal. For example a dish may seem to be pointing towards a house whereas it is receiving the signal from an angle which is over the house. This is particularly so because the relatively small dishes that we use are offset dishes rather than prime focus dishes. Offset dishes receive the signal at an angle on the face of the dish unlike prime focus dishes. See an example in the following link: http://www.bytelive.com/wiki/show_image.php?id=3 ![]() |
@ enitan & badaru Please tell the house more about the motorised dish. So, it has both a Ku band and C band LNB, not so? 1. Is it located in Lagos? 2. What Ku band satellites can you receive? 3. What C band satellites can you receive? 4. Was the mount for the jack locally made and where was it bought? 5. Is the mount a 'polar mount'? Answers would be appreciated. ![]() |
