Hmm...someone told me of this meal but that was when I told the person of our own kind of corn meal (gradually going extinct). We call it Uwo (Ubo - depends on the dialect) Akpapa meaning corn porridge. We eat ours with boiled yam...I cooked it last weekend and felt very proud of myself. I troway salute to all those who remember their traditional meals. |
Kobojunkie: It is quite easy to sit in front of your computer, with your radio going off in a corner and your tv playing in the background, and think that definitely there are no people out there who do not have access to at least 1/3rd of what you have access to.When I begged to disagree, I did that considering all factors. You claim I write from not actually knowing or seeing...you are entitled to your opinion but I have heard all sorts of news from the market...especially from male traders, sometimes I know what's happening in Uyo when I board a public transport so I am not just sitting behind my computer (in this case - phone) to type...I know what I am saying. Again information is dispersed mostly through word of mouth...you don't even need electricity to listen to radios in the rural parts, you need batteries...just one person is needed to even own a radio in let's say a small village but all the villagers will know about any tragic news on...how? The radio owner will want to pass the information on not because he cares but because he wants to be the first to pass the info and so it starts with whoever comes to visit him. That person goes along the way and sees someone else, after greeting each other and asking about each other's families...they proceed to say what they have just heard...that is the rural life... |
Kobojunkie: ^^ More like lack of information. I think what we have here is clear evidence that the people are not informed on what is happening and what has happened in recent times. There is no way anyone can convince me that these people here heard of what happened last week but still made the decision to go scoop fuel. I would dare say it is impossible that anyone who heard of last weeks disaster was involved in this. With no electricity, and next to no access to news of what is going on, it is possible that those who died in this accident did not know of last weeks incident.I beg to disagree! Information is not only disseminated through the media only, it is also by word of mouth moreso bad news which spreads faster. Last week's incidence happened in Rivers. Traders and fellow commuters are usually the set of people that spread news even most times distorting the news to spice it up the more. So, I disagree that they didn't have the information...it is more of attitude and greed. What an average person will likely say after hearing of that kind of disaster is 'hmm...na only God dey protect person' with a conscious self-pity not 'that is totally wrong' or anything about correcting that attitude, so when something similar happens again, all thoughts of God and previous examples are thrown out the window, the prevailing thought is 'how much I go make for any fuel wey I see scoop?' This is the fuel that they might still adulterate before selling it to black market. |
Na real wa...never liked the guy but still... |
Now, this is lovely! I just hope it will be properly maintained - the drivers' institute I mean |

naijacutee: Thanks for being so articulate! I haven't got an answer to your question, but hopefully, others who might have had similar problems with the bank might be able to offer some advice.Okay, thanks...but on a lighter note, one would think I was in the literature section... |
yamakuza: e be like say dem never close d account. its not supposed to be normal, but this is naija.Se oro write up lan so ni abi oro ibinu? What if I do a deposit and I am told I can't withdraw? |
Yes you are right, there is nothing to it! How can you say carrying a little being in one's stomach for nine months and getting intense back ache is special? It's not! Not the complications that can come up during the pregnancy and birth, not the fact that the woman can die definitely not the fact that her vagina will most likely tear during birth therefore leading to stitches. No, she is not special and has done nothing special...! |
My Zenith bank ATM expired on the 31st of March and on the 30th I walked into the bank and applied for a new ATM. The card came in Mid April but not with the pin. I visited the bank from that time till the end of May for my pin. The problem they said at first was that the bank sent my pin to Umuahia (I opened the account there during my NYSC 2009) and that it would take a while for me to get the pin. The solution was for me to fill a form for pin re-issue which I did towards the ending of April. The re-issue gave me 'issues' as well when I went back two week later. I was told they had a system failure while sending the pin so they were not sure the pins given would work. I was told to go and try it on the machine and if it failed to activate, it meant my pin was affected by the system failure. I tried and it did not work and then I was told to come back and try another day. Towards the end of May, I went back and couldn't activate the card so I went into the hall and complained and was told by customer care to fill another form for pin re-issue. At this point, tired of the whole thing I calmly asked the lady at the customer care how I could go about closing the account. After making futile attempts to dissuade me, she told me all I needed to do was write a letter. I asked for pen and paper, sat there and wrote that I wanted my account closed. There were many reasons for these: I was charged for over-the-counter withdrawal from March to May I was spending too much time from the office because it later seemed as if I had other personal things to attend to and was just using the bank as an excuse Uyo was/is going through a re-structuring, so the main route to the bank was/is no longer accessible so I had to use a long roundabout route. So after closing my account, I withdrew all my money, deposited some in Access Bank and opened a GT Bank account with the rest (Come oh, GT Bank where is my ATM?) One day in June, I was at Access Bank and since Zenith is opposite the Bank, I crossed and tried the Zenith ATM that was still with me. The pin worked but the machine 'swallowed' the card and I thought that it was probably because I no longer banked with the bank but on the 12th of this month, I received an alert from Zenith on Card Replacement Fees being deducted from my 'supposedly' closed account. The amount was N500 and my balance was then (432.92)...this is a negative for those that studied accounting. My question is this, I thought a closed account was supposed to have no transactions on the account? Did the lady at the customer care lie to me about just needing a written letter to close my account? Does this mean that if someone pays into that account, apart from N432.92 being deducted, that I could still go and withdraw? Is this normal? |
Prison terms and fines are so on the high side, as someone mentioned...perhaps our leaders should look more towards community service...the roads are dirty, some places have high grasses, ministries look unkempt...simply make offenders clean the roads, gutters or cut grasses; that way the fear of one's dignity being degraded will be the beginning of observation of driving rules...these penalties are just a sure way to enrich Lastma officials...just pay half the price or a quarter and you are free. ![]() |
Wish you lots of fun on your day and make sure the e-cake reaches everyone. Happy birthday! |
I think others have appropriately tackled your analysis. Even if you were correct, a true analysis would have been one that cut across boundaries...that means popular in the whole Nigeria...For example, if Mr Biggs was not a franchise...it would have been a good example instead of Sweet Sensation...Sweet Sensation isn't in Akwa Ibom and I haven't seen any in Calabar either...even the Mr Biggs in Uyo here are slowing shutting their doors due to lack of patronage...other outfits with nice concepts have taken the over the market. Now Dangote, I make bold to say is everywhere. His salt, cement and Spaghetti are almost everywhere you go...is Glo 10 yet? Can't readily say |
dramatic speak: she Is typIng tru her fone so she cant type in fullMy dear, that is no excuse! I just told you I have typed with my phone too before...I typed my observations with my phone...I don't know why you'd want to think what I said was wrong... |
Hmm...you've got an okay story but you need to flesh it out. I am sorry to say that the suspense is too light, the only surprise I had was that Michael was still alive. When writing on scenes that have to with specialty, it will do if you research a bit so that you don't use common words...for example, memory loss could easily have been 'temporary amnesia'; a gun should be given a name...a glock, a smith...there are many kinds of guns so we should know which one. I also noticed your switch with tenses in the first few installments...glad you worked on them. Please no short codes abeg as Efe said write your story offline so that you can write correctly. 'I type with my phone' is no excuse....I have typed more than 5 short stories with my phone...typed 3 'ghost written' articles for publication on my phone when my laptop went brain dead...so your's is not an excuse. Join other sites that encourage and constructively criticize writers...you will be glad you did. Finally, the road of a writer is often a lonely one and has no vacation. Every experience is needed...your observatory skills should be upped...that is be aware of your environment more...so that when you write, it seems more real. Kudos! |
Mine rose from 3,800 to 5,780...not funny at all. Even though I had light through out last two weeks on a constant basis, immediately the bill was brought...the light has been 'very' erratic. |
@funkymallam: na wa o...but data bundles are now cheap...are they not? |

omoh9ja: What's d difference between blackberry and curve?nawao ℓ☺ℓ!!I never said there was a difference...I said I have a curve 2 'and' a new blackberry...at least I am not like the babe that came to my office and was arguing that her phone was American Bold 1 even when we were trying to tell her that Bold 1 was the same as Bold 9000...she kept on repeating that she was holding an American Bold 1 |
Ever since I lost my Nokia phone, I have shuttled between phones mostly blackberries. I first used a Curve 2 but because I was still mourning my Nokia I refused to buy a memory card and so the phone hung anytime I subscribed making me lose important calls as it could hang for as long as I let it to except I remove the battery...this was months ago. I poached another blackberry from my boyfriend who likes changing phones anyhow because I am saving for a Nokia E6 and now had two blackberry phones. Now MTN in Uyo is partially wack when it comes to browsing (data plan- modems and bis) so I had a dilemma in deciding if I wanted to use my airtel in the new blackberry or in the curve 2...because I like to keep up with news and all that my boyfriend advised that I use my Airtel in the new blackberry and leave my MTN in the Curve which I did and so this meant that I had to subscribe only on Airtel's plan - better and faster network at least in Uyo...and my MTN was for calls only. This was months ago. Now this morning, I received a call from 180 asking why I hadn't subscribed in a long while....and if I had a problem with their network...I told the lady No, that my phone had problems when I subscribed. She asked if it was something that could be resolved by them and I told her no, that the only solution was in me getting a new phone for my MTN. She asked if I was on another data plan with another network and I had to lie...(It was a good natured lie) I mean she had gone through the trouble of calling and I didn't have the heart to tell her I enjoyed using Airtel. What does this mean? Is MTN losing its BIS customers? |
Not everyone will want to compromise on their dreams...if that happens, we should love them and respect their dreams. The fact that you compromised doesn't mean your potential SIL should; it's best you not allow a simple thing as a wedding cause resentment from her (for not allowing her walk down the aisle) and from you (for her not being understanding enough) and I don't think you should have any 'headache' on behalf of your father...Yes, he suffered for you guys but that shouldn't be seen as a hangman's noose... Not all your children will do your bidding anyway and when that time comes, please don't make them feel guilty for not remembering all you might have done for them... |
Who is the dude saying that there will be clashes/repercussions? I laugh in annang...nothing dey happen. We are sister states and should have settled as a family instead cross river chose the supreme court and therefore should respect the s'court's judgement...clashes ko,fighting ni! One love to akwa ibomites and of course our elder sister, the cross- riverians! |
exx: SHEY!!! We should sue them for false advertising or something... mtsheeewwwwDon't mind them joor. Making it look as if the chicken and veggies are in the pack too. Really false advertising! |
What's with a grown man singing bam mi la la with little children? >: indomie's advert is better joor...but why do they depict noodles of coming with veggies and fried chicken every time? |

@chaircover; your last sentences had me laughing out loud. It is bad when this happens in a family where old couples instead of sitting back and relieving their yesterdays together, something ugly rears its head...it's even more worrisome the examples the old folks are setting for the next generation... Well, everyone is to blame...the children, the old man, his new wife, his old wife and the rest of the family. Did the elders not discourage him as to getting a new wife? Which sane 'new' wife marries a man who has grown up children...not even young ones but grown graduates? The children are hurt no doubt but they carried the hurt too far...elders should have been brought into the matter...throwing anyone's belongings, muchless one's father into the streets in full glare of the public is not something to be desired. The old man behaved like an agbaya and refused to think through his decision and how it might impact his family...the 'old' wife should have demanded half of his gratuity...and asked that he move out (not divorce)of the house to his 'new' wife's apartment...at least that way everyone preserves their sanity...because not every woman can stand another woman with her husband. |
I am sure the reporters didn't hear properly, he might have said 'like the two thieves crucified with Jesus'...don't blame him, blame the reporters that scratched off the words in-between... |
Tgirl4real: Still can't wrap my mind around that. Eba n egg stewWell, as I said popsie had it in his head for us to try it, he said he tried it in his student days; same like my uncle who cooked us beans and fresh tomatoes some times when we were young |
Yonder place, where the lights are shining bright; Jesus Christ will make everything alright; In his place, he'll make me really his; Otherwise, it really won't be right.... But he's gonna put all my heart to rest.. Just got reminded of hsi 2 minute song on T.? Where he even glanced at his watch towards the end of the song...don't know why that just entered my head... Anyways, we can always put forward our conjectures but they remain just that - conjectures. I am not comfortable with the 'irreconcilable differences' excuse and the fact that he was such in high spirits during service before giving the announcements; I don't know what advices he'd give to the married folks in his church but I think that is his cross to bear...As someone said, if he is impotent, are there not plenty lovely babies to adopt? But since we don't know, we can only talk...it is left for him to take an in-depth look into his own life |
