Opinionated:Thanks op. But why did you show the picture of a one-button suit, instead of the two buttons you are projecting as smarter and better? Isn't that an inconsistency? |
asuustrike1:My Dear, you are not exactly correct. 1stly, Doctors, Lawyers and Engineers will definitely not go hunting for work like nonprofessionals do. Reason is because, more development and or industries in our country is more opportunity for these set of professional. On the other hand, you seem to have forgotten that basically, all of us, including your good self can be lawyers+doctors+engineers at the same time in a single lifetime. No matter the course you studied as your first degree, you can enroll into a different course as your second degree, third course as 3rd degree.... But, I ask, how many people have the luxury of studying several courses in their life time, when most people hurriedly finish their first degree and grab any job available in order to support an indegnt family member/siblings? Now, if you are a counsellor, will you advice a young indegent student to study a course that will likely be relevant in the future or the one that will support him early? |
asuustrike1:You made a big point. I am not countering you, nor the op. But, I want you to see things from a possible perspective from which the op spoke: Imagine a young child who is from a poor or less privileged family. If he/she hopes for the future you are talking about and studies as a first degree: sociology, physics or chemistry (for instance), how will he get a job that will adequately sustain him and perhaps those that trained him with too much hope as the "light of the family"? See, if the child of a prominent man studies horticultural science, or phisics, or chemistry, or sociology; the influence in his family will catapult him into CBN, NNPC, PPMC, etc, etc. But the ordinary person who studied same course usually get their first available job in secondary schools. The poor child who studied petroleum engineering may not get the oil company job, but the privileged child who studied unrelated course gets it. I know a brilliant graduate who studied maritime in Niger Delta but had to teach in secondary school in northern Nigeria. I know a graduate of surveying and geo informatics who could not get his dream jobs with immigration or navy or air force or customs. You can ask, 'what then did those who get the job study'?. One more, I have a friend that studied Industrial Designs, but ciramics and other manufacturing companies have not employed him. So, if the above studied professional courses, they find it easier to be employed. |
asuustrike1:Medicine, Law and Engineering are ever relevant and professional. Computer science has joined the league now. The op may have had a real life experience to have authored this piece. |
Life can deal one a cruel blow, except a careful and sensible decision is taking at important juncture of the person's life. This can be seen at a point in time when the person achieved a reasonable success. Usually better life and enjoyments which requires extraordinary expenditures will entice this person. If he is wise, he will not follow the temptation to spend more. Rather he will invest. But, if he goes with the enticement, he would be living in the present and spending his future means of livelihood. A good number of Celebrities fall into this man's shoes. |
Evangdanyno2017:Agreed, but still, Akpabio was the chief executive (governor) when Bassey served as commissioner. The bulks stopped at his desk, yet corruption have been alleged. Can't you note the obvious? |
Edet08:O'oh nooh |
FlyoruB:Do not over use your energy on this matter. That fact remains that Ibadan is a beautiful city. So large that it remains the ancient and oldest city in this part of our continent. In such a great city, there must be: 1). The ancient/olden area. 2). The modern part of the city. And 3). The latest urbanized area. Ibadan has it all, and its inconsequential that some one goes to the ancient part of such city to take pictures in order to distort the record about the city in question. |
Edet08:Really? If its that serious, Akpabio is not as innocent as APC saints claim, as they celebrated his jumping into their ship. Isn't Akpabio answerable for this misnomer/corruption that happened under his watch? If GEJ was rightly blame for corruption under his regime as a president; then, APC's Akpabio is answerable for corruptions under his watch as the executive governor. |
"The offences, according to the EFCC, contravene Sections 63 (1)(a), 64 (1)(a) and 98(1), (a), (i) of the Criminal Law of Lagos 2011." But, why is the criminal Law of Lagos State cited. Isn't the offence commuted at Akwa Ibom State? If committed at Akwa Ibom, why not cite the "Criminal Law of Akwa Ibom State"? I understand the suit is filed at Lagos state, but that necessitates the application of Renvoi principle under Conflict of Laws. |
benben1000:Don't derail the thread na! |
CastedDude:Don't disturb Lalasticala please. Good to see this move from the US embassy. This is what it means to be a country that's working. But, it is baffling to note that Nigeria (our beloved Nigeria) have not apprehended and punish the perpetrators of the said killings. Little surprise that our Abuja-based Fed-government may be planning a package for this good man that saved the 300 Christians. However, if they want to do it rightly, they must apprehended and punish the killers, then appreciate this good man. This is important because even the U.S. that has rewarded this man, as we all know, had called for the arrest and prosecution of the killers. Were the U.S. in charge of Nigeria; they would have apprehended the culprits and prosecute them before now. |
Letenwam:Why has the current regime in Oyo state chosen to create this bad record? Permits are given or denied while constructions are ongoing. Demolition is better done at the early stage before the building is completed and occupied. I want to believe that the owner of the property paid the necessary fees while building and that explains why the work was permitted and now occupied. It baffles me how suddenly a government wakes up and decides to demolish a property like this as if it was build when the government of the state was away/oblivion. At worse, why didn't the government levy a penalty on the property owner? This demolition is rather extreme and suggests the owner may belong to a rival political party to the one the governor is a member of. #militaryapproach! |
AfonjaSlaves:Their innocence, their vulnerability, their inability to help themselves by themselves... Are reasons why I feel deeply for them. Can you imagine when you were 1-6 years? If your home was attacked then, your parents killed, you alive... How vulnerable could you have been ![]() Don't forget, ethnic cleansing have not stopped. Who knows where is next? May be your city, town, village or community? Think of what will become of the little children of ages 1-6 ![]() Will you have compassion on such ones ![]() #letsbemorehumanthanweare! |
AfonjaSlaves:Pls, you and the others should try not to derail this thread. Can you see that innocent child who, when the mother went into the bush to fetch firewood fell on a coal of fire with the buttocks now burnt? This child will not sit down the normal way for a long-long time If you have tears in your eyes, let's shed some for these innocent kids. I personally believe little children can never deserve evil of this nature. THEY ARE INNOCENT, FOR GOD SAKE. |
yanabasee:It was a surprising history when APC won both the governorship and presidential polls in the state in 2015. However, its bad on record now, as the very electorates seems to have been rewarded in this manner. Well, before the whole blame is laid on the presidency/NEMA, the illustrious son of Benue state; former governor George Akume should be called upon as a prominent Benue son/senator/APCchieftain. Akume deserves a thank you if the events are good or a huge blame if otherwise. The guy have not even denounced the happenings in Benue. |
mrbaba18:Just like that? The problem with that chain is that infections get circulated across the chain. According to op: "nothing is free in Freeland". So the price of belonging to the chain is high, because STDs are life threatening and deprives one of all joy. |
mashnino:On point. Only a core northerner will defeat Baba Buhari in the north. Saraki's support base there is either shallow or nonexistent |
It is nothing short of suicide to have done that. UNLESS THE FROG ENTERS INTO HOT WATER, IT DOES NOT BELIEVE THERE ARW TWO KINDS OF WATER. Now the suicidal couple have learnt their lesson, but in gruesome way. America, Australia and Netherlands must be too peaceful and conducive, which is why these 4 died such a foolish dead. THEIR DEATH HAVE PROVEN THE FACT THEY REFUSED TO ACCEPT: THAT MEN ARE UNKIND AND WICKED, EXCEPT FOR THOSE WHO FEAR GOD |
dingbang:But, that place that look like a room should be tiled na. Madonna, with all the prestige and jumbo fees should house the students in rooms that at least have tiles and modern toilet facilities. |
It seems this UN mentioned here is being economical with the truth. The report mentioned of 111 Dapchi school girls abducted and ransom was paid to them. UN SHOULD HAVE MENTIONED HOW MUCH AND WHO DOLED OUT THE MONEY. From my memory, our defence minister, Mansur Dan Ali did not tell us money was involved in that "negotiation of release" which failed to rescue Leah Sharibu |
No Op. The richest governor in Nigeria is Ibrahim Hassan Dankwanbo (Talban Gombe) If you know, you know. If you don't know, ask around. Besides, I dont believe that a man is wealthier than his counterparts simply because of the wealth in his family. Such wealth can only be considered on family basis, not personal because he can only have a share in such family fortune, but not the entirety of it. |
Ooh noo! Another great loss. RIP to the dead. But its about time the killings in Borno had ended. What sort of country do we run where a supposedly resolvable problems linger indefinitely? |
Strikethem:To say Igbos hate Baba (late) Awolowo is over generalization and unnecessary. Awolowo remains an erudite leader, whose love for his people is worth imitating. Awo was firstly a Yoruba, then a Nigerian and had to take the interest of the Yorubas at heart. This he did very well in addition to being an elder statesman in the larger Nigeria. Its only Igbo politicians that aim at being "elder statesmen" to the detriment of their people. But, that is not the best because charity begins at home. So my man, We Ndigbo loves Awolowo because to an extent, he was a better politician than many Igbo politicians of that time. When Pa Awo was giving free education to the west, Sardauna was doing something equivalent to the North: the Igbos got virtually nothing to boast of as an equivalent incentive to their people. Fast forward to 2018, Awolowo's legacy still speaks of better things than the greed and lack of foresight prevalent in Igboland. For instance, IGBOS HAD ZIK OF AFRICA BECAUSE HE IS BELIEVED TO HAVE CHAMPIONED A COURSE TO HELPED "AFRICA". BUT HE WAS IGBO FIRSTLY, THEN AFRICAN. WHO CAN SHOW US WHAT TANGIBLE INCENTIVE NNAMDI AZIKIWE (ZIK OF AFRICA) GAVE TO NDIGBO IN COMMISERATE OR EQUIVALENT TO THE FREE EDUCATION HAD IN THE WEST, OR THE GIGANTIC ACHIEVEMENTS OF SARDAUNA IN THE NORTH? So please, it is wrong of you to assume Ndigbo hates late Awolowo. Rather, we loves him for his erudite and foresight inspired kind of leadership. The mischief makers of our people can only envy Awolowo, for his achievements. Not hate him. |
Chief Awolowo was truly an educated and brilliant Lawyer. No wonder, His memory is blessed. |
MissRaine69:Good question. I don't know what has happened to our sense of decency and true respect for perfection in lifestyle. |
deepwater:Calm down good Man. Your point is valid. One thing that has made this forum (Nairaland) discriminatory and biased is issues of "Islam" posts. For goodness sake, this is supposed to be a forum where egalitarianism is encouraged and entrenched, because we lack egalitarian society in Nigeria. Muslims comment freely on posts concerning Christian religion, but restrictions and oath taking has been placed to restrict non-muslims from commenting on posts having Islamic matters. Those of us that want a better Nigeria knows that Nigeria can never be good, if this discrimination persists. Neither will Muslims enjoy general acceptance without reciprocating the love and unhindered access they enjoy from people of other credo. |
Ezi Nwanne, kedu ebe ndi Igbo naga ugbua? Kedu ihe anyinile by umu Igbo ga ejiko onu wee mee ka Igbo nwee ofu olu na ofu uche? |
Ooh nooo! Ordinarily, a 2year old girl child should not be far from the mother's sight. And such a child grows with the required tender love and care that make us all normal human beings. Today's trend has led to this little child not just being far from the mother, but was left in the custody of abusive and inhuman "teacher" who now did to her the unspeakable. Psychologically, the child is injured for life. Now I ask: IS THIS PARENTAL FAILURE, EDUCATIONAL FAILURE OF SOCIETAL FAILURE? |
blackmantis:The Executive are not seeing it from you perspective. Then all they've do has rather make Saraki very popular, contrary to their wish. |
