AntiChristian:
You are stylishly evading the truth bro! No one is discussing non-alcoholic wines here but alcoholic wine! And as i said the reference alone suffices to buttress my opinion that Jews love wine and also get drunk at events and even at home!
How am I evading the truth? I like how this conversation was going so far because you seemed to want to tackle the subject of discussion like me, and not get emotional, but looks like you also want to force your view here. Now look at the bolded part. This is where you may be wrong. You want to prove that the verse is about ONLY alcohol so you pick only the Greek word for getting drunk. But what about the wine itself? Were they drunk on water? Of course not. If they were drunk, then obviously on wine. But the word wine in this particular verse is oinon. Please return to that Greek Bible you used the first time and check the word wine there. The word used is for both fermented and non-fermented grapes. So, why do you want to away from the possibility that it can be fresh when the word there says it can be?

And when the guests get drunk...does not come from a non-alcoholic brew!
More so, no one is talking about 100% alcohol here.
Oga! Vodka my previous example is only 30% to 40%. Where did you get the idea of 100% alcohol. grin Even you have 15%, you will still have zero percent and water on table in most parties.

See, I had to explain how Russian drink vodka cos Naijas mix it in their cup first. Lol. Stop using your environment to analyse this issue. You will have picture the olden Jewish culture in your mind to grab this thing. This is why I said that I may have to stop discussing this issue with you cos it seems you are not capable of drawing abstract related things.

You don't have only alcoholic drinks on the table. This is my point. You get drunk drinking alcohol, but it is not only alcohol people who get drunk drink in most cases. There are always fresh drinks available on the table also. And they are both called wines. The point is that if both are available, how can you prove that Jesus' product is alcoholic? Not possible.

Step back and look at it from my view, and you will get my point. If you still dont, then, you cannot get it.

The wine tasted was alcoholic and evidently they do get drunk at parties as such!
Were you there to confirm it? grin

All these are way too off-points bro!
If you don't get it, then, I may be wrong to assume you can think deeply. Cos Once I keep repeating myself, I leave the person to feel he is right. What we have written here is for the public, and whoever is a deep thinker will get the point I am making. If you don't get it, sorry, I cannot make you get it, and I won't waste my time again with you.

The comment from the chief guest suggests strongly that the wine he tasted was alcoholic and people can get drunk from it.
It's simple English!
So, does the comment from the chief guests suggest they got drunk from the previous wine that was served or Jesus' product that was served very late after they were already drunk? Ok.

Reason it again. You are saying that since they got drunk from the previous drink, then, Jesus' product must be alcoholic. Does that make sense? Did the chief guest say they got drunk from Jesus' product?

If you still don't get it, I will not engage with you again.

And you keep understating the meaning of drunk in that verse!
You are the one overstating it. The chief guest said they got drunk from the wine that was finished. Period. You don't need to twist the Bible. He did not say they got drunk from Jesus' product. So, it is impossible to say that Jesus' product is alcoholic since they didn't get drunk from it.

And this is why I said no one can prove whether Jesus' product is alcoholic or not.

Here's is another one!

The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is proved right by her deeds.” Matthew 11:19

What makes people become drunkard again?
Fruit Juice!

Drunkard above = oinopotēs
Wine = oinon

What is actual is that people do get tired of juice than they do when it contains alcohol!
I have many angles to prove you wrong here, but the one I will use is simple.

Do you call ONLY drinkers drunkards?

Guy! Learn to stop making assumptions. Was there food or drink on the table when Jesus made the statement?

Talkatives are called drunkards too. And Jesus used to talk.

Who is a glutton? One who overeats Did the personality of Jesus in the Bible portray a glutton? If he didn't portray that, then, why are you picking only the drinking part? The statement was made by Jesus and the meaning was that Jesus was a "happening" guy on earth. He was always with them. Could there be alcohol on the table most time? Maybe. But did he ever drink? No one knows. The Bible did not say so.

You are only making assumptions again. Oh. Cos Jesus said they called him a glutton and a drunkard, then, he must have taken fermented wine too. Nope. You cannot prove it like this also. Stop making assumptions.

If Jesus was a drunkard in that verse, it means he was a glutton too. But does his personality say he was a glutton?

The word wine used in all these verses is "oinon" which means fresh or fermented. Therefore, you cannot prove it.

I am done with you cos I cannot keep going forth and back. If you want to keep making assumptions to foece your opinion... good luck. But the fact remains that as long as "oinon" is used in all the verses, you cannot prove Jesus took alcohol or did not

Good luck bro!

My comment has a context. You can get the context from your Bible where Jesus did the miracle of changing water to wine!
and said to him, “Every man serves the good wine first, and when the guests are drunk, then he serves the poorer wine; but you have kept the good wine until now.” John 2:10 The word translated is methysthōsin which means drunk! So the Jews do get drunk!

Reference: https://biblehub.com/john/2-10.htm

grin

The one above suffices!
Thanks for this verse. Actually, I read this part many times while I was trying to figure it out many years ago before I understood why it cannot still mean that Jesus drank alcohol. As I said earlier, no one can prove that he did or he didn't. Let us look at the verse.

The Greek word used in that portion is: μεθυσθῶσιν (methysthōsin) as you mentioned above. It means "get drunk". You are right. However, Bro! Remember that it was the chief guest who spoke about this. He said...ha ba! Why is the best wine coming out now? The fact is this: people drink both non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks together at parties even in Jesus' time.

I lived very well in Europe and I have lived in Russia. You cannot drink vodka without having non-alcohol present. And let me tell you something...vodka tastes almost the same there because the producers must get the particular taste Russians want otherwise, they won't buy it. Even in Nigeria...ogogoro has a particular taste that those who drink it will tell you that..." this is it". But Naija is not a standardised place. So, inferior ones can still sell. Since vodka has a unique taste, the enjoyment derived comes from the (alkaline) non-alcohol you combine with it. Russians don't even mix it. They drink vodka directly and then drink something soft to cool down the effect of its extremely low pH. So, they rarely care about the quality of vodka, but you see big boys asking for fresh juice with no artificial sweeteners. While some just put on table-packed carbonated juice with glucose syrup. Some will tell you that only organic fresh apple is what they want. While varieties of fresh or packed juices are on the table also.

In that party, there is no proof that ONLY alcoholic drinks were served. Of course, Jews always have both too during parties.

The chief guest could have meant that haba! Why bring out the best fresh grape when everyone is already drunk and they cannot drink it again? Or why bring out the best-fermented grape when people are already drunk on a low-quality fermented one?

The only way to know the kind of drink Jesus produced was to know the exact one he produced. Not from indirect comments. And Bible uses a word that means both non-alcoholic and alcoholic. So, we don't know.

You can only guess and explain based on assumptions like yours. But still, it doesn't prove whether the one Jesus produced is alcoholic or not.

As long as "oinon" is the word used for wine in that same verse which means both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, no one can prove it. Period. That word.....wine...is the ONLY way to prove it. And we don't know.

Using the word of the chief guest is not the solution. That word for wine is the ONLY way to prove it.

Please tell me about a party where you have ONLY alcoholic drinks. If you can, then, you can win this argument. But let me tell you...you can still have only non-alcoholic drinks at parties...but never only alcohol.

Obi is not the undisputed choice of Nigerians but of Obidients. Obi himself does not have the capacity to lead Nigeria. If Tinubu fails despite his achievements in Lagos, Obi cannot.
Atiku is the least that can handle Naija.

The person who will make Nigeria better must be a democrat but must operate like a military. He must step on toes. He will fight the gods in Nigeria. I am not going to mention names, but he will fight the banking gods, oil gods, military gods, gas gods, ocean gods, etc. He will turn the whole of Nigeria upside down. Who can do it? I don't know. Nigeria should split.

Jews were alcoholic and Jesus did drink alcohol according to your Bible!
Jewish are/were alcoholic is not the subject, but if it is, does it equate to Jesus drinking alcohol? OMG! I am just seeing how Nigerians reason logically. grin

Russians drink tea without milk. Does it translate to Putin drinking tea without milk?

British drink tea with milk. Does it translate to a British born by Russian parents in the UK drinking tea with milk?

Look at the two statements. Can you see the complications there? If you can't see it, I cannot discuss it with you cos I don't have time to discuss it with kobo-junkie kind of person. grin

Based on your comment, here is what you are going to do:

1. Prove beyond reasonable doubt that Jewish were (note...past tense ooo) alcoholic. You will prove that they were alcoholics during Jesus' days.

2. Prove beyond reasonable doubt that Jesus took alcohol, and the evidence must be in the Bible because you wrote that he did according to my Bible.

Let me tell you my stand again: This is a debate that is older than a century and no one has been able to prove or disprove that Jesus took alcohol or did not. Even Aristotle tried, but couldn't. Please, do not ask me for my proof because I have written it in this thread. If you don't know, then you are careless in rushing things. So, I encourage you to check my posts in this thread.

If you cannot prove the two above, then, you are wasting your time. You will need to really sit down and examine your life as an anti-Christ if it is really worth it. I am not admonishing you to be a pro-Christ. Nope. I don't have a problem with atheists...infact, they are my good friends. I just need you to have something upstairs and have common sense like I do if we are to discuss. Don't be like kobo-junkie who decided to use a 2016 research study to back up his claim about what happened over 2,000 years ago. Who does that? Common sense no dey there at all. grin

1. Common sense should tell him to state categorically the type of food that was used for the experiment to find that ethanol is in the fresh food. Is 2010 to 2024 food same as the ones in Jesus' time? grin

2. Common sense should tell him that the research was done in 2010 upward or so and that the seeds are different from seeds used in Jesus' time.

3. Common sense should tell him that if modern fresh food contains alcohol, then, reactions are going in there. And could that be a reason for having sicknesses? This is why we told him that msg is bad. He was still arguing. Lol. This is why we advise you to eat only organic food. Lol. Why is cancer around now? No common sense.

4. Common sense should tell him to try to find seeds grown during Jesus' days to test if you will get alcohol from the fresh grapes.

5. If he doesn't do the above, and he relies on 2010 to 2024 research based on recent seeds that have been re-engineered and he still insists he is right, then, common sense is far away from him.

grin

Guys...that guy called kobo-junkie...please, don't take him seriously at all. Common sense is far from him. grin

He wants to prove that drinking alcohol is not a sin which I am not ready to go into. My point is that no one has ever proven that Jesus took alcohol or did not.

So, if I will take his papers seriously, it will be Jesus' time similar grape seeds that must be used for such research. Don't use 2010 to 2016 breeds that have been re-engineered and then say it has the same characteristics as the grapes available during Jesus' time.

If he had common sense, he wouldn't use a research conducted over 1,000 years after Jesus and apply it to His days. Ha ba! What kind of sense is that? You want to use the result of plants in 2016 to Jesus' time. Is that not stupi.dity? It means the fellow is a quack, and he accepts all papers thrown at him. Mehn! What kind of sense is that? Sanwo Olu has just built a rice mill for looting
I am also angry with Sanwo Olu. That rice mill is a waste right now. The cost of bringing in rice paddy is something that should have been investigated before building that huge mill. Now, they will make this mill a means to loot massively.

More than enough Rice can be cultivated for the mill
As an ecology lover, I know what to do to make Lagos, Ogun Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, and Edo grow rice for that mill. This is the reason I am still angry with our professors. They don't do much. How can they not all be able to come together to tackle the ecological problems that need to be fixed to make it happen? I still don't understand what these professors are collecting money for. Two people have allegedly lost their lives as per news circulating around the customs office.
So, they should allow them to rush the officers and kill them. Right? If they can't use tear gas, what do you suggest?

Tear gas is used to control a wayward crowd. The barricade is the gate, and the moment it was pulled down, it means the crowd is ready to kill anyone to get what they want. So, the officers must defend themselves.

Is it not that custom office around the University of Lagos and MFM? Do you know how strong that gate is? grin

I don't want to quote the guy called kobo-junkie cos there is something about his posts that spam bots always pick. He is just an unusual person.

Please, let us use common sense when quoting research papers. He posted a paper that says there is alcohol in some food. Lol. And then another paper says that grapes will contain alcohol after 6 hours if not refrigerated. Lol. Therefore, since there was no refrigerator in those days, Jesus took alcohol. Lol.

My response
Not everyone who posts on NL has common sense and no wonder they say common sense is uncommon. grin

First, would you consider pineapple that has stayed 6 hrs without refrigerating an alcoholic drink? Even if it stays for a day and it starts fermenting to the extent of having some percentage of alcohol, do you not eat it? Do you call it an alcoholic drink? Make una dey use common sense na.

Now let's go into modern science. Have you eaten pineapple, grapes, fruits, strawberries, tomatoes etc that were produced in the 70s to 90s? Well, as an ecology lover, I know that all seeds have been re-engineered to have a higher brix level. We call olden days fruits wild varieties. Lol. These news breeds are diabetes partners. Lol. Pineapple, grapes, oranges, and mangoes of the old are not sweet like the ones we have now. So, if our modern fruits ferment into some percentage of alcohol within 6 hours, I believe it will take more than 7 times that for the wild fruits. Also, chemicals and fertilizers used to grow our food make us comsume less quality nutrients.

Apart from the above reason, since everyone had a garden in those days, did they need to have refrigerators? Nope. Even in 2024, I don't have a freezer and a refrigerator anymore cos I don't need either again. My freezer is open 24/7. I retained it cos of party periods.

In the olden days, they did not leave fresh grapes for even an hour if they wanted to consume them fresh. That civilization has erased common sense from many does not mean we are all the same. grin

Guys, do yourself a favour, please. Go buy a land, fence it, and install a borehole there. Produce organic food, please. You will never need a refrigerator. I am telling you the truth. I have a friend who keeps grass cutters and goats. The ones he cannot eat same day he processes them, he has a special oven for drying them. Simple. You don't need a refrigerator. I don't eat anything that comes out of refrigerators anymore cos since I started eating fresh organic food, food kept on ice tastes somehow. I don't know how to explain it.

Unless you are attempting to tell us Jesus Christ only drank freshly pressed juice --- less than 6 hours from its making --- I suggest you stop that nonsense. undecided

Alcohol was not a sin. God Himself boasted of making it for the pleasure of his people. So I am not certain why men think it makes sense to ascribe sin to that which God Himself made and extolled. undecided
I went to a Jewish university, so I can lecture you. Jews have grapes in their backyard. Gardening is a culture that civilization has stolen from us, and it is killing us. If we had gardens, we wouldn't have modern sicknesses like high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, autoimmune diseases, etc. So, fresh grape juice from the vine to the cup is not uncommon.

They don't need to have a refrigerator. Refrigeration is the onset of our predicament. People of old eat fresh food. Straight from the garden. Fresh soup/stew daily.

You can't eat fresh food straight from the garden and prepare it within minutes and get sick. Lol. It is civilization that has made you think it is not possible. grin There won't be herpes, covid, staph or whatever it is. Business men selling drugs are the ones responsible for this situation. If you start eating fresh organic food, you will never want food from the refrigerator. Trust me. It always have an "after taste" that is so unpleasant to anyone who eats only fresh organic food.

I started eating fresh organic food some months back, and there is this infection that is common in Lagos in Feb. It starts with a sour throat, and within 12 to 24 hours one will be down with fever, and a serious dry cough will take over. It is a killer viral infection. The first time I battled with it, my doctor gave me erythromycin. Guy, for a good 2 weeks, I was knocked out. If not for a drug (I don't want to mention it here), that cough would wound me. But then, my doctor got the right drug for it (Cefuroxime) another time that I had it. I know the symptoms, so I am always ready for it around December to March. grin To cut the story short, I started feeling sour throat 5 days ago, and I just forgot about the infection. It was just yesterday I called my doctor, and he reminded me that it is this period when the infection is in the air. I said...wait ooo. It is true oo. I went inside and I saw all my medications and I smiled. I said I wouldn't touch them. So, I opted for taking natural spices - cloves, turmeric with black pepper, baobab drink, ginger and garlic. The slight fever is gone and the sour throat is almost gone.

Here is my point, I believe the good organic food I have been eating has built my immune system and can fight the infection. I only felt a sour throat and a slight fever. So, in those days when our parent felt slight headaches and sour throats, it was their body that fought infections.

I believe there wouldn't be herpes, gonorrhoea, and many other STDs too.

Oga, do not think the people of old live recklessly like us. They do not need a fridge oooo. In fact, in my house, I don't have a fridge or freezer again. I am telling you. I found out that I don't need either cos I eat fresh food.

I am planning to buy like 100 plots and build my house there. And then build a food forest for myself there. I am looking towards Mowe side of Lagos/Ogun or Atan close to Ota. That Atan, I am thinking of it more cos it is close to Agbara. I am still looking at the railway from Agbara to CMS. If I see that the standard remains ok, I will go for Atan.

You don't need a refrigerator when you have a garden.

In most of the Bible verses that are subjected to debate, the word "oinos" was used. And the meaning is unfermented or femented grape. Because of this, scholars keep using ideas, assumptions, and scenarios to prove their stand. But in the real sense, no one can prove it or disprove.

So, you think the black market is normal and a good thing. grin Perhaps you benefit from them. You see those people benefiting there won't want them eradicated. Those people are the enemies. Many are even there thinking it is normal business. Nope. It is not. The government of Nigeria is just useless.

Instead of finding reasons black markets should be retained, look at the bolded part in your post. I expect you to face the government to solve that bolded part.

Mehn! Nigerians do see shege. They now think black markets are part of life that must exist. grin

I think he's talking from the angle of the reality of access to dollars and not what you're thinking.
Getting forex from banks is hard. You and I know that.
It is why as an economist, he was to advise the government on the real way to do it. Kick-off BDC and make banks the only entities to do it. It will be available. Banks can operate outlets in airports too. Banks are the primary exchangers and not BDC. These BDC people are the ones doing this bad thing to us. They are cabals. The only way out is to stop them. Banks make more money through them. Even imagine, that banks have refused to load ATMs again with naira because they give it out to money sellers via POS.

Government know what to do. They just won't do it cos they are also corrupt.

That man is right. There are certain transactions you cannot do in the bank. For instance, you cannot exchange your naira for USD cash from banks, even when you want to leave the country. Most times, people just resort to BDC.
Is it the right way to do it in the first place? Is that not the job of Nigerian banks? Is this act not the reason we are here today? But cos they want to make more money, banks give dollars out to BDC. And here we are. As an economist, should he not correct it by asking govt to make sure banks give dollars out? Se you want to say that you don't know that banks deliberately give BDC such dollars?

Raid not way to go – Economist

An economist, Dr Oluseye Ajuwon, in an interview with Daily Trust yesterday, said clamping down on BDC operators was not the solution to the foreign exchange crisis.

Ajuwon, a lecturer at the Department of Economics, University of Lagos, said the raid was like compounding the problem.

“There are some kinds of forex demands that you cannot go to banks to do. You have to resort to all these BDCs. The way they (the government) are going about it now is like pushing them into a darker place.

“The implication of that is that it would now become more expensive. I don’t see it solving any problem. Rather, it would compound the problem.

“What will create hoarding is if there is scarcity. If you can’t remove scarcity, there will be hoarding. If we really want to solve the problem, just remove the scarcity.

“Everything they (government) are doing now is a short-time measure. What they are doing now is trial and error and the way they are going about it is wrong.”
Lol

Economists from hell! The bolded part got me. What kind of transaction you cannot do with banks that only BDC can do? Can you read what the so-called lecturers demanding high pay are saying? grin Mehn!

I believe this lecturer is talking about money laundering. Tell me one BDC that has a bigger capital base than the smallest microfinance banks we have in Nigeria that I need BDC where banks are not capable of handling. Na wa ooo!

Can you see why Nigeria will not get out of this easily? These are the set that will wage war oooo.

Please, if you know the kind of transaction that is justified here, let me know. Cos I am really curious to know what he is talking about.

Things will get worse because politicians are still looting massively. They won't stop until the whole system collapses. We are heading towards Venezuela. So, get ready. I keep telling everyone. Go and learn how to garden and produce food for yourself.

All regions will agree to part in peace. So, relax and enjoy the show. Nigeria is over.

There is nothing anyone can do because these people are looting. Nigeria will get better when people who decide to save Nigeria start spending their personal money to rule Nigeria. There will be nothing left to loot. Each state will cater for itself.

Before June this year, $1 will be N5000+. Bookmark this post.

I have never seen people who overestimate themselves like the politicians.

Imagine Sowore contesting for the president
Sowore wants the outside world to know him as the upright opposition to government. He knows it is hard to win, but UK, US, Canadian's senators who oppose Nigerian government will associate with him.

Otherwise, he would contest fpr the senatorial or house rep of state. Or even state house rep like Desmond Elliot.

I did not advise you to do commercial farming. I said, start gardening. Also, I missed a step.....fence it. In my other posts, I added that it is better to build a small bulding and install solar panels also.

So, you aren't buying a pieces of land in the bush. Buy in the outskirts of your states where there is development. 1 plot is enough, and if you are blessed, you can buy up to 15 or more. Those in Lagos can find N300k to N600k per plot in Ikorodu, Mowe, Sagamu, Epe, etc.

If you aren't working in a very good company in Nigeria, just forget it. I don't know why you think Tinubu can fix the situation ASAP. Neither Obi nor Atiku can. We will face this hardship for an extended time because politicians are still looting massively.

So, go and start your garden to prepare for the days of hunger. Buy a plot of land, fence it, and install a borehole there. If possible, build a small building there and install solar panels with internet.

Get ready to cultivate your food and meat. On top, you will live healthier if you learn organic farming.

I don't pity hungry people. I don't give out money to the hungry. I only help the old, very young, and sick. I will never assist a woman who has many kids cos she is part of our problem. A no get business with widows cos they allowed their husbands to pump them 6 six children. Na dem wahala. But if you are sick I cannot remove my eyes.

The days of hunger are going to be hard and very long. Please, start preparing for those days. You will blame yourself later if you don't do this.

I don't see anyone who can do a better than Tinubu because the only preparation is to stop corruption..with the way Nigeria is built, do you think you will fight Dangote, Otedola, Adenuga, Dantata Danjuma, ex-generals like IBB, OBJ, Abdulsalami, etc?

The only one who will fight these people, and start killing civil servants who steal is prepared. The one who will send efcc to terrorize senators, ex-governors, and house reps is ready. That person will kill politicians and put many in jail.

Please tell me who is ready to save Nigeria?
