My thoughts exactly. Nearly every contributor to this thread, from the OP onward, seems to have been so heavily afflicted with tribalism as to be utterly incapable of logical thinking. Of what use is a President coming from any particular region if the person doesn't know what he's doing? How has Buhari made life better for the average person in his own native NW region? Is tribalistic pride in a President's ethnicity going to put food on anybody's table, give them better roads, provide them with decent and affordable hospitals, or put their children in better schools?

Instead of demanding candidates who advocate sensible policies that will lead to faster economic growth and higher FDI, so many cretins are on here going on about how it's the turn of one region or another, when what they're really talking about is how politicians from particular regions are using the same old appeals to tribalism to jostle for their chance to steal from the government till: it's simply nonsense to say "the north", "the SW" or "the SE" wants something or other, when it's actually small coteries of politicians from such regions who are doing the wanting. Nigeria has had 56 years of such elite manipulations, with virtually no economic development to show for it, but the very victims of such mismanagement are on here clamoring for more of the same!

I've said it before, but the Nigerian masses have no one else to blame for their predicament but themselves, for getting the abysmal levels of "leadership" they deserve for their idiotic tribalism.
Thank you. Well said.

That's exactly how I came to the conclusion that we won't be making progress anytime soon. Nigerians deserve what they get. No more no less.

The moniker is a supremacist one - reason I just ignore it. Go through all his posts and you discover his deep obsession for the Igbo - for someone who claims it is a lawyer. I mean there is banter and tribal slurs here across the various tribes on nairaland but only that moniker goes way beyond the line.
Right I see. No point wasting my time this lovely evening. Thanks for that.

I don't think it should be swept under the carpet. Such statements need to be addressed, because so far as I can see, he truly believes in what he is saying (which is even more worrisome) rather than saying it just to rile people up.
TravelRe: Uber Loses $708 Million In The First Quarter Of 2017 by ephi321(f): 6:33pm On Jun 02, 2017
AdeOlum:
Uber sells one dollar to users as 75 cents. Also, Facebook and Google were monopolies when they started as they didn't have direct competition as such, so they burned less money. MySpace couldn't replicate exactly what Facebook was doing, as they literally had to migrate all your friends from Facebook. Google didn't have any serious competition, the incumbents were doing serious crap at that time.

Amazon started when the internet was just starting, so they literally had no competition too, so they could scale up quickly before people started competing with them. They had like 5 or more years headstart. Yet, they only started posting consistent tiny profits after 20 or so years of operation.

But in Uber's case, as early as a year after they launched their now popular low-end ride hailing, they already got competitors raising billions, so they have had to be brutal with marketing, subsidizing fares etc.
Very informative, thanks.

But the main aim of any business is to make money, there is no point if they fold up despite high revenues so they need a strategy to manage their competition.

Lady what are you talking about? Can you please disprove all I said? So because it doesn't sound or look right for me to say the state of things in Nigeria, I shouldn't say it? Come onnnn. We have to say the truth at all times.
You don't get it do you?

Your statements are not only arrogant, but highly corrosive. The first thing that came to my mind reading what you wrote was I can imagine if this guy was a white American, he would be a staunch member of the KKK, extremely racist. And that is how the likes of Hitler and white supremacists started. You have no right to group a whole ethnic group together and talk in such a condescending manner. Do you have 2 heads or were you made differently from them?

So saying what I did amounts to pride? The truth is what it is, the truth! The average Yoruba man doesn't really see the igbo as an enemy but pitied them due to the challenges they have faced in Nigeria after the civil war.

We mostly empathize with them and have allowed them to be integrated into our society hence the shock when we see their hateful comments on social media. If the yorubas saw igbos as a problem, they would have been made very uncomfortable in our land a long time ago.
Your arrogance is nauseating. To imagine you wrote what you did and frankly see it as "saying the truth" is even worse.

You better calm down with the obsession, there is a real world outside Nairaland and hopefully you don't carry this same egotistical attitude around. If so, that would be very unfortunate.
PoliticsRe: A Credible Northerner, Not Osinbajo Should Succeed Buhari In 2019 by ephi321(f): 6:12pm On Jun 02, 2017
This is how Nigerians keep focusing on region vis-a-vis presidency. No mention of qualification or what the candidates would bring to the table.

I can see we won't be making much progress anytime soon.

Yorubas are very nice people. Of what need is it to argue with Igbos? We are not on the same level in Nigeria or elsewhere. Yorubas are thinking of how to build turn key infrastructure which has been articulated by the DAWN project for all southwest states and you are talking of naira land darts? Most people in Yoruba land see the igbos as refugees that need our help. Believe me man, the average Nigerian doesn't really regard the igbos as amounting to anything of consequence. I am telling you the gospel truth from the bottom of my heart. Yours truly only feels pity when I see any igbo in Yoruba land. They need our care and compassion.
Never knew a single individual could be so full of himself. Incredible. Ever heard of the saying pride goes before a fall?

You're welcome.

I saw an article where the head of Finance claims the below:

Bloomberg’s sources say that Uber Head of Finance Gautam Gupta pointed at driver subsidies as the source of the majority of the loss, but did not go into detail.

https://www.pddnet.com/news/2016/08/uber-reports-loss-drivers-are-biggest-expense
Just read it, and one other thing mentioned which made sense and explains the big loss is promotion prices to attract customers, all those discounts have to come from somewhere. Learnt something today. Thanks for that.

Given it's a private company it's hard to say for certain the biggest expense headers on their financial results, but my guess would be money spent fighting competition will hit the P&L, expanding into new countries, lobbying governments, fighting attacks from traditional taxi companies etc. will play a part. Investment in new products and market will be a big cost as well e.g. I know Uber is investing in research for driverless car and truck technology etc.

As I said just a guess, we wouldn't know for sure till they start releasing more information before IPO. Good thing is revenues are rising and losses reducing steadily so looks good.
I actually remember reading they were in a running battle with London black cabs, not sure what the outcome was. Research is also not cheap. So yes, that makes sense. Thanks.

Growing and expanding the business into new countries and products e.g. they just started Uber Eats, some service for pets and Uber trucks etc.

Most start ups make a loss for a few years as they reinvest in the business to grow it. Same with Google, Facebook, Amazon etc. The important thing is the cash generation and growth of the company.
Right, the expansion bit makes sense. I know startups do struggle in the early years but Uber does not purchase/own the cars used by their drivers so besides salaries and commissions, I still find it hard to understand why they lost that much money.

Well OP, there is freedom of choice with religion. It is up to you to decide what next. No one should be forced to worship what they do not believe in.
