Thinking of doing a borehole now cos one can't tell what will happen to our economy in months time and borehole at my site area is at least 900k as at now.. If I wait till the end of the year, I might just spend more
Well the pipe going down on the hole which is usually same as your soakaway pipe should be high off the ground preferably same Hight as your DPC and make sure you put appropriate covering on it, protect it with at least 2 coaches of blocks on the sides

Why u dey compare UK with America..
U know history at all so..
China one of the biggest developing country go do ur research there are big cities in China nobody dey occupy them with latest buildings here for America we get full towns nobody dey live there again abandoned sites.
This life chnge is innevitable. Few years ago we get drones? We get Artificial intelligence? We been get electric cars years ago??

No be Saudi arabia dey build the future city abi u no get the info?

Bro take it or leave it very soon petrol will not be in high demand anymore. If countries wain dey build cars decide no more production of gas cars only electric make Nigeria come stop am na.

See you are not getting it right.. u just keep saying the same thing over and over again..

Bro u are a automotive engineer no problem but you keep getting it wrong..

U talking about big buildings even at that towers are brought down easy and new structures erected there..
I don drive Tesla tire infact I use it for Uber on a daily.. I don't own one because it's not well built to my standard yet maybe when Tesla decide to make the car sophisticated in terms of built quilt material wise then I might consider getting one .

I will stand my ground anyway anytime ur range no use am Compre electric car abeg e get why...
Also i won't bother saying much again as u believe fuel car go last u till the end of time cary on sir..
I dey work for tech and my company are now investing on flying cars just FYI.. and we already have them already but fucking expensive. Do ur research..
We are just shering point and I stand my ground and u can stand on urs..

But if u feel petroleum go stand the test of time and since u be engineer why not go build a car manufacturing company then in Nigeria so you can continue to make cars that run on fuel when compnises like GMC or Ford or merdedies or Tesla etc stop building gas cars cause they don talk am already...

My own point is this. I know in exactly 15 to 20 years from today, all major cr companies will stop cars tht run on fuel or diesel.

If you disagree it's still fine by me..

But I am a data scientist by profession and with all my facts gathered I am very sure 198% sure that if few years from today the dangote fuel refinery won't be able to keep up..

The only use for his fuel then might be for generators if it hasn't been fully banned yet due to health hazard..
I have my facts and I will stand by it..
My advice to you is don't venture into anyinvestment that will focused on petroleum if it's a long term venure you going into or you will fold up your company if it lasts.
But what do I know s you said . But I will not agree with u on ur stand any day any time take me anywhere I stand my ground

I asked you a question u disagree with some of my opinion tell me in details so I understand because you didn't explain the reason for disagreement with my point all u say is u disagree so I don't get u..
Brother calm down, SO you are telling me the Govt is going to bring down entire complex, are you 4 real? you say you live in the USA have you not seen the housing complexes which are Mega ie housing more than 5k flats? in the Uk we call them Estates,.Are you not aware that the UK govt even most of the US states and local govt can no longer afford social housing to be built on their budgets?
The UK govt passed a new law mandating all new built houses from this year to have a charging point installed, this was geered 2wards the private sector building houses, Now a question was put to the Mayor while he was addressing the green men, what and where will high rise building charge their car as it is physically impossible to charge thier car overnight or at any time, guess what the answer was, They would have to charge at a charging point and pay, SO we established at that meeting you would need two cars, one to take you from you dropping off the car to charge and bring you back, or you sit inside your car to charge until such time you fully charged.as you can see logically that blows the act of convenience out of the roof

Awesome since u want 5 benefits let me give u some great benefits..also I live in the United states of America and basically all the automatic here are switching to either hybrid or fully electric.
Now in most states in America ,they have already passed bill to stop using petroleum cars here in America you can Google more about it to be very sure and to be precise sanfracisco and Florida are already passing the bill for final approval with huge success rate..

Haven sid that I will say this also.. if I stand outside my house if 30 cars drive by, 22 of those cars are either fully electric or hybrid and if you want me to make a short video for you I can to prove that fact.

Now with that said let me give you the 5 benefits ad u asked.

1, climate change and air pollution..
Go to river state and see the smog cause by the refineries there. It doesn't stop there we get monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, particles, and sulfur dioxide particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, volatile organic compounds, benzene, metals and sulphur dioxide and may more due to the process of refining petroleum.do you know the amount of people who die every year from such.. skin cancer lung cancer the list goes on.

2 noise pollution.. u know what I mean by tht..

3, war.. i.e Nigeria delta militants MEND and the rest.. and u should know so many lives lost.

4, water and wild life pollution- u dey see watin petrol dey do our fall and wild life and water life when there is oil spillage.. so that u get the point..

See I can go on and on on the disadvantage of petroleum..

Advantage of electric cars..

1, help beat climate change 85% down I don't have to say much on that cause u get the point.

2 it's cheaper. A full charged Tesla or a Mercedes EQS will go far miles than a full tank of gas you can do the research and see..

3, comfort of charging ur car from home without having to always go stay at the gas station..
4, way more job opportunity and more profit in cost production of EV cars to that of petroleum cars. You can go look at the mercedes annual growth indes they have online form their electric cars compare to the gas cars nd see the profit margin. That u can get from their official web page so I dontbhave to say much..

5 EV cars are more sophisticated in terms of advanced technology when comprered to gas cars.
You and I can agree on one thing that Nigeria is 15 years behind in technology and innovation so with my predictions dangote have atleaste 10yers tops to try and cap his profit margins or it's gone. And Nigerians have to start thinking another alternative to petroleum cause we going to get it hard if we don't go into full time battery productions for both phones and cars we have all the natural resources.

I hope with this I am able to give you my points so now my question for you is give me 5 reasons why Ev cars won't take over 98% of all cars in the world in few years from today?
in the 1st instance, Nigeria wont be amongst countries talking about Electric cars not in the next 100 years I can beat my chest to say that
2 Confort of charging cars from your home? have you thought these fru? so you tellig me all of a sudden all high raise Buildings ie complex of Estates 30 stories high will be brought down to make way for Bungalows and semi houses??Because obviously if you live on the 5ft floor the word comfort from your home goes out of the window.
3 You say EV cars are more sophisticated than Gas cars how?
4 You are talking of Mercedes, I was in their plant as early as December last year to work, They are swaying more into Hybrid rather than full electrics,
and your number 2 is absolutely wrong, it shows you have not been in a Tesla, It has be proven that the battery in your tesla can only be 95% charged and its highest mileage ever recorded on plane road ie the route 66 is roughly 456 miles, so you telling me my range rover on a full tank of diesel wont double that? have you also factor i n the cost of charging and waiting times?
5 Climate change. Now have you thought of the opportunity cost in manufacturing of the batteries used in storing power for EV cars?Do you know that a typical EV car will never offset the CO2 emission it generates during the manufacturing process of its batteries plus the Co2 generated whilst generating the power to charge in its entire life time?
Now as You can seee, from an Engineering point of view the only people who are realy going to benefit from EVs are the manufactureres. Also if you speak to any Engineer who is into Automobiles, they will tell you exact thesame thing. However there is a Big BUT, the Way forward is for a new kind of fuel, or HYBRID,90% of EVs you see on the road as we speak are all Hybrids, take for example your local Taxi in the US and UK Toyota Pious, they all HYBRID. howmany Full electric toyota taxi have you seen?
In London the only True EV we see are the LT aka Black cab and they all based in the city(Central London)

Dangote Refinery challenges global narrative

It started like a grudge match. Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, was dealt a bad hand in a failed transaction. Later, he vowed revenge. Not in a pound of flesh, but by venturing to make his own success where he had been ambushed.

At issue was the decision of the government of Umaru Musa Yar’Adua in 2007 to reverse the sale of the Port Harcourt and Kaduna Refineries (two of Nigeria’s moribund refineries) to Blue Star, the Dangote-led consortium.

Blue Star had paid about $670 million for the plants in the twilight of the Obasanjo administration, and gone away thinking it was a done deal. It wasn’t.

The Igbo and Homecoming
Even though the refineries were producing at about 20 per cent of their capacity at the time of sale, the Yar’Adua government, egged on by Labour, insisted the “national patrimony” were under-valued and under-priced. The sale was reversed.

Dangote walked away bruised, but unbowed. Six years later he announced plans to build a private refinery in Lagos with a capacity of 650,000 bpd – over 200,000 bpd more than the installed capacity of Nigeria’s four refineries combined.

Crazy at first

It sounded like a crazy idea. So crazy, Nigeria’s Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, said on Tuesday that on account of it, the U.S. lender JP Morgan threatened to expel Nigeria from its Government Bond Index for Emerging Markets.

After unforeseen delays, including cost reviews (from the original $12-$14 billion to $19 billion) not to mention energy transition concerns, the glut in global supply caused by COVID-19 and spooky markets caused by the Russia-Ukraine war, the refinery is now set for official commissioning on May 22.

One source told me on Monday that perhaps the most significant recent reason for the delay was the need to sychronise power supply to the Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit, FCCU, which has now been significantly completed by General Electric.

Apart from an estimated 250,000 direct and indirect jobs that the refinery would create, the refinery is also expected to spin off other business opportunities, a story that Dangote loves to share in a country with 33 per cent unemployment.

S&P Global reported two months ago that early commencement of the Dangote Refinery would not only benefit Nigeria, but could also benefit Africa currently suffering a shortage of diesel as a result of the closure of three of five refineries in South Africa.

The continent imports about 700,000 bpd of diesel. Diesel is one of the four quality Euro-V products expected from Dangote Refinery. Others are gasoline, jet fuel and polypropylene.

But how does Africa’s richest man propose to deal with the growing resonance of the global green army?

He was once outspoken on global warming and its predations. At a fundraiser hosted by the Lagos State government for victims of a major flood disaster in 2011, Dangote said: “All over the world, nature is reacting. We are having extreme weather conditions…as managers of the city, our responsibility is to share knowledge with our people to prepare for the worst and hope for the best.”

That was before he started building his refinery. For Nigeria and much of Africa, where energy resources, renewable and otherwise, remain considerably under-utilised, the choice seems to swing between managing emissions, already among the lowest in the world, and expanding industrial processes required to meet rising energy demand.

Green army

Dangote Group said it was not in denial of the dilemma it faces from green campaigners. The Group Executive Director, Strategy, Capital Projects and Portfolio Development, Devakumar G. Edwin, said five years ago that the group was dedicated to producing “efficient and clean fuels by investing in processes that meet European standards of gasoline.”

Edwin tracked back to why the refinery was started. “Primarily,” he said, “Nigeria exports raw materials and imports finished products. When you import the finished product back, you are essentially importing poverty into the country.

”We have always focused on import substitution. It’s what we are doing in sugar and what we’ve done in cement. So, we decided to adopt the same strategy for petroleum refining.”

Apart from the economic implications, an NGO, Stakeholder Democracy Network, reported on its website that the quality of the stock of imported fuel could also potentially undermine air toxicity, and cause other environmental problems.

Yet, the Energy Transition Plan, ETP, a green playbook by the government to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, is an indication that Nigeria recognises the urgency of sustainable carbon footprint.

The ETP comes on the heels of the Petroleum Industry Act, finally ratified in 2021. The law is supposed to introduce stability, transparency and accountability to an industry that has long resisted reform.

The ETP anticipates a scenario in which increased investment in the sector would lead to an uptake in the use of gas as a “transition fuel” and also help accelerate the move toward decarbonisation.

The divergence of opinions surrounding what methods to implement and what outcomes to project has in some way come to define the conversation on sustainability, with a number of developing countries even canvassing such ideas as “energy justice!”

Large industrial projects like Dangote Refinery, which covers 2,635 hectares, are infamous for environmental challenges they present to the local ecosystem, often causing long-term damage and increased risk of displacement. Already, local populations have called attention to the disruptive effects of the refinery to the environment and their livelihood.

Hobson’s choice

The continent faces what could well be Hobson’s choice: how to overcome widespread energy poverty while at the same time not ignoring global concerns about the deleterious effects of converting its rich deposits of hydrocarbon resources. Nigeria, like many commodity-rich countries on the continent, is at a crossroads. Is there a bridge?

Maybe. And Africa’s richest man is poised not only to fill a vital supply gap but also to do so as a business, keenly aware of all the bad habits that ruined the state refineries. Reuters quoted him as saying he was focused on starting production at the end of the third quarter of 2022 and to reach full capacity by early 2023 – a dream now deferred.

Dangote Refinery is not Nigeria’s first experience in private refining. To plug the supply gap, previous governments issued dozens of licences for “modular refineries.”

As a result of price caps and other regulatory hassles, however, only two of them with a combined capacity of 10,000 bpd are currently producing. Yet their combined output, even with those of rogue refineries that dot the oil-rich Niger Delta region, still fall far short of the estimated daily consumption of 72 million litres daily, an estimate still viewed with suspicion in some circles.

One and a half decades after Dangote’s Blue Star misery, the mood in official circles has changed. In 2021, government gave state oil firm, NNPC Limited, approval to buy a 20 per cent stake valued at $2.76 billion in Dangote Refinery, indicating a significant shift in government attitude.

Dangote told The Economist that the refinery would save Nigeria up to $10 billion in foreign exchange and generate approximately $10 billion in exports. The country’s perennially opaque petrol demand and supply chain could also be re-written. While the location of the Refinery could bring benefits of lower freighting costs, pump prices would still be largely determined by the markets.

Nigeria imports 80-90 per cent of all domestically consumed petroleum products. According to the Observatory of Economic Complexity, OEC, Nigeria imported $11.3 billion in refined petroleum products in 2021, becoming the 18th largest importer of the products in the world, while refined petroleum was the first most imported product in Nigeria.

No single country has met its emissions goals and standard but someone thinks that companies will meet theirs in 2030.

But what's funny is that one johnny thinks he knows better than Dangote. Like how do you begin to think about it? Dangote will invest over $20bn in a project without a laid down rules on how to get returns on investment?

The defense industry has the highest carbon footprint but you have never heard them discuss electric car or emissions standard.

you will still need diesel to charge your electric car. Forget all these emissions standard and stuff, they're there for those conferences they attend and sign for more loans

Mark it somewhere, petrol will still power the greater part of industrialization for the next century.

Heck, crude and diesel are cheaper than electric. Lithium is very very scarce and it's a race to get enough. What is currently happening in the chip industry is nothing to what is coming
This was what Im trying to say here, but one ignorant user on here Pascal9 is masturbating on the term EV,These people speculating on EV don't even use EV, they are just how much money they are going to make until the fuss dies down again .The way 4ward is Hybrid. Imagine a journey from Southampton to Scotland with your family that will take about 6 hours straight drive, you will have to stop at least 2 times to charge and that might increase your travel time to 10 hrs, then if its i n the winter your car is going to take 3 times more to charge cos you will need to sit in your car to charge it and heating must be on cos you will freeze.

Okay let me add my 2cents.. see to me I believe dangote refinery is already dead on arrival..

My points below..

I live in America and I can see the fast evolutions of mobility..
In the present day where we have trains that are faster that a speeding bullet shot out of the barrel of an AK-47..

Firstly 8 states in America already passed a bill to ban all petroleum fuel cars and switch to electric..
Hell I live in a mini town I won't say small but mini cause the town get level pass Abuja Lagos and jos put together is nothing compare. So when I stand outside my front yard say I take my dog out to go do her poop thing.. if I count 20 card drive by 12 are either all electric or hybrid..

Infact every car manufacturing companies are now switching to EV..

It's not just America it balls down to China Germany Russia Japan etc u name it..

Unless dangote wants to lobby in the Senate house to pass a bill for only petroleum cars and even at that, all automobile companies plan to switch to full EV by 2030.. it's already done on arrival.. unless dangote plans to build a car manufacturing company in Nigeria solely for gas cars i.e petroleum fuel car, if that's not his aim then that company is dead on arrival..

Funny part is our leaders they all stupid they travel abroad and they see all these and they still mumu think say petroleum n the future..
It's not.. even Dubai and Saudi Arabia are now switching from oil which they have in over mass quantity and switching to tech like AI and robotics because they know the petroleum they have will be obsolut soon enough. I guess dangote don't have goo business and financial advisors..
What he would have done if I was him is build a battery powered plant Nigeria have huge deposited of lithium if he was smart enough then he would have been the one supplying EV batteries to all EV companies and while those EV will be at competition he would have been on the safe side cause he will do good business world wide... na mouth you get, keyboard engineer , local Nigeria man , I don't claim to be what I'm not
Unfortunately for you, I'm just stating the obvious. You are far from reality to acknowledge the bare fact that Nigerians abroad are doing unimaginable things and lead in various disciplines. You belong to them school of thought who think we all wash dishes and sweep the streets of the Uk or wash dead bodies or are carers.

Electric cars has been around for almost as long as IC Engines! what is this novice talking about, I gave you reason why electric car was suppressed then by vested interest, and you are here talking about people that couldn't commercialise their inventions, mumu in 1860 or1876, is electricity mainstream, you are not an engineer, you are claiming what you are not.you are wiser than the CHINESE and AMERICAN BUSINESS MEN INVESTING BILLIONS IN NEXT GENERATION BATTERY, even with current battery milage, one can drive up 500km before needing to recharge, Oga you don't know a jack
Look at this ignorant one calling Chinese, do you know how many Chinese personal I have trained over the years? apart from Gun powder what has the Chinese ever invented in whole? I have gone fru your post on NL since 2018 you joined, all you got to talk about is Politics, you don't engage in science except one liner about American war ship firing Laser that was your bread and butter. You have never been in an Electric car I don't even believe you have seen one in your entire miserable life. The worlds 5% greedy persons are screaming EVs you too follow, there is zero advantage of electric cars to the man on the street.

you are a local Nigeria engineer , you got nothing upstairs , combustion win then because of John d Rockefeller standard oil monopoly , Nigeria engineer ask yourself, why all the major auto industries are investing billions of dollars in electric vehicles development, Volkswagen is investigating close to 80 billion dollars, Daimler is investigating 60billion dollars, ford general motors, and leader Tesla in investing billions of dollars and a local hungry Nigeria engineer is predicting the demise of an industry that is a game changer
You see people who talk like you have no clue,So you think the Nigerian Engineers have no real knowledge how the world works? This shows you are not educated. YI I'm a UK trained Fluid Engineer with more than 20 years' experience, My job has taken me round the globe,I have worked in the Automation of both Land rover and BMW plants in German and in the Uk,In EU this was how they hyped Diesel cars but the Americans did not buy the idea, look what happened
Now we got that out of the way let me lecture you a bit
In the year 1881: French inventor Gustave Trouve exhibits a three- wheeled car with a rechargeable battery at the International Exhibition of Electricity held in Paris and also in 1882: English professor William Ayrton together with an Irish professor John Perry invent a three-wheeled electric vehicle that could travel up to 25 miles at 9 mph.
FYI

The first commercially successful internal combustion engine was created by Étienne Lenoir around 1860, and the first modern internal combustion engine, known as the Otto engine, was created in 1876 by Nicolaus Otto.

Mr Heaven Engineer as you can see Electric cars has been around for almost as long as IC Engines!
