PoliticsRe: Governor Fashola Builds First Suspension Bridge In Nigeria by esere826: 9:22am On Apr 30, 2013
naptu2: Now, to the issue of the toll (there's another thread about that). It would have been very difficult to build that bridge without toll gates. I was initially against the toll (you can see that from my comments on the other thread) until I spoke to Lekki/Ikoyi residents.

This bridge is a premium access way. Residents of Lekki and Ikoyi do not want heavy traffic flowing through their neighbourhood. The initial plan was for the bridge to land on Banana Island and connect to the Third Mainland Bridge via Osborne Road. Residents of Banana Island kicked against this. The alternative is what we have now.

Most people will use the Lekki Expressway. Those who don't want to pay tolls will use the (free) Oniru-New Market Road. People who want to travel faster and are willing to pay more for it will use the Lekki-Ikoyi bridge. This will reduce traffic on the expressway.

Commercial buses are also not allowed to use the bridge.
If the bridge is a private property, then tolling is great and folks shld pay big time
If its a government road, then before tolling, all documents (including detailed financials) relating to the project should be made available to the public for scrutiny

naptu2: About the boat thing

1) Like I said, I've seen Otedola's yacht, Prest Lunch Cruise and SeaCat sail under this bridge (with my own eyes). These are the largest boats in Lagos.

2) It's not just about the height of this bridge. Before you get to this section of Five Cowry Creek, you must sail under Onikan and Five Cowry (Falomo) bridges. Even if you are coming from the other direction (Lagos Lagoon), you must sail under Eko, Carter and Third Mainland Bridges. Any boat that can sail under these bridges can sail under the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge.
Great
If you've seen those boats meander past the bridge in low tides and high tides
then the commitee of NL engineers (with all objectivity) hereby declare the bridge a suspension bridge at some parts
for indeed having some utility

Apparently, the available pix's are quite deceptful
PoliticsRe: Governor Fashola Builds First Suspension Bridge In Nigeria by esere826: 8:35am On Apr 30, 2013
nuclearboy: whether suspension or whether it sits on your head, whether first or last! What matters is that the bridge performs its function of alleviating traffic problems.

Also, in the interest of good sense, tolls will be collected, thus enabling government NOT ONLY recoup investment, but als have funds to do more of such!

This is what we want, not politicking OR showing that you can deploy federal might against people who dont support your self-perpetuation desires!

Without asking, people are already wanting Fashola to run for resident etc, not because he is a politician but because he is making the type of changes and progress people want - a challenge if ever there was one, to those who prefer to bask in power without doing any work

Michaeljones36: A suspension bridge doesn't have to have two towers. Here is a single tower suspension bridge in California.

Does it take a picture of an oyibo man pointing at the California bridge for you to believe its possible?

You are going to kill yourself with all that hate.
Forget about the oyibo thing
There are capable scientist even on this forum

What we are 'seeing' is a nice bridge
but it makes mockery of the concept of suspension bridges
which is the trophy that some folks are raising up high
(I even believed it was a typical suspension bridge untill I saw these pictures)

What i see in the OP pixs tells me that just with a pair of piers we could do without the suspensions
(I agree that the bridge is beautiful, and should be treated as such. It however lacks anything innovative or challenging from a science stand point. So no need screaming about it being the 1st suspension bridge in West Africa or something)

When competent engineers and scientists are talking, then please keep quiet and stop showing us silly pix's and belittleing people that look just like you.

I even wonder how those big boats/yatchs wan pass under
No plans for tourism incorporated into the waterways?

PoliticsRe: Governor Fashola Builds First Suspension Bridge In Nigeria by esere826: 7:29am On Apr 30, 2013
@OP

My look at the external look and feel of the bridge tells me that the suspension is mainly for aesthetic purpose only.
In fact, I dont think the suspension works at all.
the dstance between the piers seem to invalidate the need for a suspsnsion

CareerGraduate Internship Scheme Initiative In Nigera by esere826(op): 6:57pm On Apr 29, 2013
The Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, will tomorrow, Monday April 29, hold an interactive session with captains of industry, heads of multinational and large corporations, SMEs and other private sector organisations in all sectors of the economy to garner support for the Graduate Internship Scheme (GIS), which is a component of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P).

The interactive session, earlier scheduled to hold at the International Conference Centre, is now to take place at the Congress Hall, Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja by 11am.

The Graduate Internship Scheme is one of the social safety net components of SURE-P designed to provide graduates with quality temporary work experience that will make them stronger candidates for job openings in the labour market. It commenced on October 9, 2012 with the mandate to match 50,000 Nigerian graduates to firms where they will acquire working experience and skills. Presently, almost 85,000 graduates are registered on the scheme, attesting to the scheme’s high interest rate among graduates.

121) Like a reed/straw drifting aimlessly in the ocean

Not toughtfull - Toughtfull
Rugged ...........- Dogged
Speed ............- Velocity
Scalar ...........- vector
effort ...........- work

On the other hand, if you have no 'envisioned goal',
you could end up displaying the characteristics mentioned in the left hand in the table above
Being tossed by whatever forces that prevail at the moment

So your friends like Arsenal, you become their fan
Your new friends like Chelsea, you switch to Chelsea

Pastor says Tithe is good, you accept
the same pastor changes his mind about tithing, and you easily accept too.

You take on other peoples visions because you lack yours
and you cry more than the bereaved

Using Postt 118's diagram, Folks and situations can easily take the thoughtless from point 'O'

BusinessRe: How to Create your Economic Success Out Of Nothing by esere826(op): 2:29pm On Apr 29, 2013
xtian perspective of post 120 concept

A lot of new gospel suggests that the tongue is the rudder of ones life
I do not completely agree with this
I believe that the rudder rests somewhere in the 'mind' (a certain decision and envisioning mental faculty)
This in turn would have some relationship with the tongue (spoken words)

(Before I could speak intelligent words, as a baby, my 'mind' was already active.
I remember crawling and staring at the design of the curtain in wonder as sunlight played some tricks on it
I also remember trying to make sense of the oyibo I was seeing on the TV that didnt look like anyone around me)

Jesus prayed in the garden of gethsamene
and all he did was heave, sigh, sweat and speak only a few words as he wrestled internally

If it is simply the spoken word that directs us, then the dumb have no hope
That is my 10kobo

120) As you tinketh, so you are

From the diagram in post # 118 u see that at every point in time
there are a vast number of decisions you could make, and a vast number of actions you could take

The single most powerful factor in all of these vast and endless possibilities is your 'mind'
When yo have your mind set on a certain endgame whether in be short, medium or long term
It acts like a rudder directing the actions you take,
minimizing the possibility nodes,
thus living you less confused, giving your life a pettern,
and stiring you towards an envisononed direction

So someone that has set her heart on being a brilliant academic
will soon find that she spends more time taken actions and making decisions that lead her in that path
while minimizing actions and decisions such as excessive partying
that pulls her away from the path to her destination.

BoboYekini: Its a movement that suggests that you can seduce almost any woman by employing specific body language, verbal suggestions e.t.c., regardless of your financial or physical limits.
+ @insanity

O that. smiley
I have my views on that alright
But I think I have a better suggestion.
Why wouldnt the person use body and verbal languages to make money instead
If one can use it in seducing babes, one could also use it garnering business
and in turn use the finances so gained in toasting

My guy and I where mulling over this issue when he suggested that we would have a better deal if many of the rich guys suddenly died off, surely lots of women left over for us dxy( sorry esere, na my demographic be dis, not dyy cheesy).
Regrettably, we both know this would only exponentially increase the pool for the few (now doubly desirable) dyy rich guys. Leaving us to roast as before.
-1stly on behalf of your avid female admirers, I am saddened to note say u be Dxy guy. sad God dey sha
-2ndly if una kill of say 99% of Dyy guys, there would be opening for una to hammer and become the new Dyy type (refer to my business thread with its link in 1st page)

-3rdly, (if say there is no status mobility upwards to fill the Dyy space left by your murder) the 1% Dyy guys left cannot possibly se.xually handle the millions of available females.
This gives you the oppurtunity to nail/date/wed from a wide pool of available ladies.

undecided your idea of snuffing out the lives of Dyy guys might not be bad afterall

What about "bedroom power"? Did you account for that in your detailed equations and analogy? Do you not think that it plays a role in attaining and even holding partners?
Didnt account for that . No
What about the fluidity within a relationship? Some partners date up but are more likely to stick to their partner if their social or financial status changes... other are not.
I agree and do see folks sticking together a lot once they have 'settled' into marriage no matter what comes after this. I suspect its mainly because they almost mentally become one unit and many times a block has been built against external toasters

For those not married (in Nigeria) there could be a greater driver for them to part ways especially as they do not live together and so are not yet 'fully' mentally integrated. This could come by ways of suddenly noticing and highlighting faults that have always existed. Added to this there are little or no barriers to external toasters that can capitalize on the weakening and doubt infested bond
How can we tell which will stay and which will leave?
I no know ooo

mekula: What about a situation where the guy is humble and 'level headed' or the pity factor? Some unions are born out of pity for the other fellow, some urge to be seen as the hero or redeemer.
I think the pity factor works more with guys reaching out to girls (That's what i've seen).
for the few girls that I have seen that manage guys based on pity factor, I have observed a lot of cheating by the girls

How about the rebellion factor? Some people may want to get involved with people from a particular social stratum in defiance to family traditions.
If what you mean is that the relationship is formed in order to despice family authority... well, me I never observe this one for Nigeria yet ooo
so I never bothered to reflect on it
