They wont now but considering the new push by China vs the West, u never can tell one of the world super powers might just decide to get dirty and use the creation of a channel redirecting River Niger as a bargaining chip Much like North Korea does with its Nuclear bomb threats |
VillageBoi: No, we no be actors... we're just brothers. As for me I no go dare do pass eerrmmm waka-pass! lolThat explains it U guys write and think alike |
A movie funded by Nigerians, written by Nigerians, shot in Nigeria, starring Nigerians, about Nigerian historic events isn't Nollywood because it's big budget? Na wow for local champion mentality.
This actually brings us to to a reason and point why we (industry experts) need to properly define things Having arbitrary/fuzzy definitions throws up challenges I dont think it has anything to do with being a local champion |
This will be the 1st nigerian film that i will pay to watch at the cinema (This villageboi and speedyboi was a theathric monologue sha) |
Mitigation: -Nigeria should have to permeanently influence regional politics and ensure its intelligence network is deeply embedded in the Guinean government (much like what Shell has done to our government) -Nigeria might have to carry out pre-emtive air strikes (much like Israels hubby)on canal development location efforts if Guinea attempts this feat -Nigera would have to maximize the AU and ECOWAS diplomacy in ensuring that Guinea never dreams of redirecting the river Niger Emmmmm... in case Jonatan's Israeli cyber company has started their information gathering initiative. please note say dis is only a figment of my imagination. No report me to American embassy abeg oooo. I be christian, even my grand papa na christian |
Scenario: -Guinea builds a canal (like the suez canal) channeling most of river niger directly into its part of the atlantic a)This would cause chronic power shortages in Nigeria, shutting down industries and ruining nigerian economy b) This would end the dream of the core north to gain access to river Niger c) the way of life of thousands if not millions depending on river niger will be destroyed |
Wikipedia suggests that that course that the river Niger takes all the way from the guinea highlands to the Niger delta has baffled scientists for a long time This is because The source of river niger is actually very close to the atlantic if it were to go through countries like Guinea and Sierra Leons (refer to the map showing river niger) |
The river Niger provides an avenue for water transportation, fishing and irrigation to the parts of Nigeria it cuts through It also hosts the Kainji dam a major hydroelectricty facility The core noth has always eyed the dredging of the river niger to provide a gateway from the hintherlands unto the atlantic |
The source of River Niger is in the Guinea highlands (consisting of Fouta Djallon hills) Fouta Djallon is located in Guinea. Only a small part of the Guinea highlands is located in Nigeria (Jos plateaus)
|
Nigeria has two major rivers: Niger and Benue Whereas the Source of the Benue river is at the Adamawa plateau which is accesible and almost wholly in Nigeria
|
The source of rivers are usually found in mountains and hills 1) it could be as a result of melting snow formed at the top of the mountains 2)Rain collected at the top of the mountain 3) or streams/fountains gushing out of hills and mountains due to some form of pull (I don forget the term) The way #3 works is something like this The weight of the mountain pushes hard against groundwaters and aquifers This cause pressure to build up The underground waters thus make their way up (much like sucking on a straw) and soon carve a path in the rocks were they can gush out Moses striking the rock and thinz (kai I don dey forget my geography. I hope I am not misinforming anyone ooo) |
OK, I admit I am presently jobless and bored Gives me the time for my favorite pasttime -daydreaming (Like one chick once told me "you spend too much time within your head )Introduction I'd like to start a series of articles I;ll call future View. Its my fast forward thinking on Nigeria as it could be and might be. This article will merge the disciplines of geography and politics |
Paul, Paul, Paul na so ur 1st generation seed shall be as numerous as the stars in the sky (I would have recomended you prosecution for child abuse but that would be unfair in the nigerian context considering that yours was 17, while the former Zamfara state governor's concubine was 14) |
Eiya I really liked the club but I thought DonJazzy would know better than opening the club to make money i assumed he's intention was to use it as a kind of leverage in his entertainment business something like harvesting and showcasing new talents there before they hit the limelight ![]() |
SLIDE waxie: Most people who claimed to be learned are gullible, uneducated and fools! We're quite foolish for a reason we cant be bothered to think anymore -it shows our collective anger at a system that cld not convict ibori twice, and then same Ibori gets jailed in UK -our anger at a system that grants pardons and amnesties to ex convicts because of political connections and foists them on our educational system to breed more of their kind -our frustration with a system that lets a pension thief that stole millions (putting the remaining days of retirees in peril)walk away freely, then turn around and slams a comparatively lengthy jail term on a phone thief/scam artiste who made away with peanuts Foolish actions have in turm made us extremely foolish and angry |
extremely silly judgement it wld be important to assess all the judgements given by this particular judge to see if he or she is objective in meting out punishment equally |
kudos to Jonathan on this thumbs up The press shld reciprocate by ensuring that their news are not picked from garbage cans nor sponsored by opposition parties (who wont tolerate such against them if in power) all in a bid for journalists to make away with 40 pieces of silver coins |
@ OP Jesu Christi !!!! wetin be dis again naw ![]() we could as well slaughter our first borns as first fruit offerings I'm outta here |
sixteen08: Give me some examples of those school of thought. Its more in the academic domain, and documentaries, so I found it hard to find publicly available information. But the British queen had been hinted on this theory, and that is why she was surprised when the bust happened http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2009/jul/26/monarchy-credit-crunch Information assymetry is a bye product of capitalist economy, without it, profit maximisation, outrageous profits, price taking, boom and burst, fraud etc wouldn't occur. Various economic theories and models have attempted to tackle this but am yet to find one that has successfully solved the problem.at least they tried The structural weakness of the stock exchange need not be your grouse for now my brother because there is nothing like a perfect stock exchange (I am not in support neither am I tryin to say a weak stock exchange is good). In as much as it exists in a perfectly competitive market there will always be free entry and free exit, price takers etc the best you can do for yourself is to try as much as possible to understand the indepth workings and intricacies of the stock market and you'll be home and dry.I would buy stocks now no doubt, and even advice my friends to, as it is poorly priced but for ethical reasons, I wont push or advice the public to buy stock. Because if they trust in me and start buying thereby raising the value of shares, you and I will do some quick profit taking. So they end up bruised again (maybe my worries is that the whole FP thing for stocks might be an halfbaked agenda) Concerning the fundamentals, stock exchange market is primarily for the trading of stock/shares/equities. it is a financial market and as such is susceptible boom and burst, sharp practises, insider dealing, fraud, scam etc like every other market, all you got to do is shine your eyes shebi we see wetin lehman brothers do,wetin happen to merill lynch and d rest .....no forget say na seemingly structurally perfect stock market dem be oooo .so no forget life is a risk so is evryone n everything in it the best you could do is to mitigate against such risk. But lehman brothers anhilation was not as a result of fraud, it was caused by risk taking Meryll Lynch was a fall out of the domino effect and thus acquired by BoA The structural defect that led to the recession is well documenet and traced to the subprime market. The governments have tried hard to plug the gaps Madoff's ponzi scheme was the very conspicouos fraud that unraveled during the recession Madoff is going to die in jail and serve as a lesson to others. This makes others think twice and restores market confidence in Nigeria, some people are actually with our money after the crash Though they acquired it through fraud, they're cruising free around the world with it |
My understanding of stock market: value is placed on company's stock/share based on its: earning to investment ratio, potential for growth, emotional value (goodwill?) Companies see the stock market as an avenue to raise cheap cash Dividends are paid to shareholders as a way of profit sharing stock market offers avenue for liquidity i.e sales of stock to get cash when needed instead of directly storing your money on items/goods/actualstock stock market is directly wired to free market theories i.e demand and supply influencing pricing with little or no regulations Information is made available to all parties at the same time in order for folks to act on shares as they deem fit You might buy shares at a value that could appreciate or depreciate Depending on the composites of your stock market, the market could be a reflection of the general economic fortunes of the country The market is rational, not irrational i.e you dont wake up one morning and the value of the stock is wiped out for no reason at all Manipulation of the stock market is forbidden as it 1) erodes buyers confidence 2) makes the market act irationally Because such manipulation are capable of destabilizing an economy governments ensure that culprits are brought to book in order to restore confidence -Boom and burst are sometimes caused by emotional buying and selling i.e stocks are outrageously overvalued or undervalued -Boom and burst are sometimes cause by economic dynamis eg. if all companies are directly or indirectly wired to crude oil. A rise in crude oild price could lead to a boom (as companies make more profit), while a crash in crude oil price could lead to a burst (as companies make less profit and loose their investments that was built on profitable forecasts) -Boom and burst could be as a result of structural failures i.e the economy seems to be booming due to an undetected error in the system. This error could be discovered/uncovered thereby leading to a burst Playing the stock market involves taking risks that you buy cheap and sell with good margins (intelligent kalo, kalo) You take this risk based on intelligent assement of market dynamics (not expecting someone is playing you like a pack of cards and will go unpunished even when found) With the Nigerian stock Market, I cld as well buy into a known Ponzi scheme, and hope that I get out in time I cant see much difference If you go through my list and weigh/tick it against the Nigerian stock market, you'd notice a crucial defect And just in case anyone wants to know why Foreigners are buying into our stock market, the reasons are quite explainable |
bigx: Its not a Nigerian but a Global thing, human emotions cause it and we are in a free economy so Govt has no business (ideally) in the market.agreed, but we'll have to reason this out properly to chip at the fundamentals give me a minute |
sixteen08: There is no guarantee.....there will always be boom and burst in the capital market likewise any economic system.....check the history books and you'll find the answers there.booms and burst exists alright (although their are some school of thought that believes this sholdnt be) My grouse is with the structural weakness of nigerian stock exchange the fact that some people are actually allowed to manipulate it thus leading to information asymetry this defies the theoretical fundamentals of the stock market wont you agree? |
