1) Introduction Hi all, I have created this thread to share managements skills that could be useful in our career development. The thread would be heavy on contemporary management theories and some experiences. Some of these you might have come accross already, some others you may come accross during management trainings in your place of work You can describe this thread as your liitle MBA manual withy loads of stuff from HBR, McKinseyQuartely, CIPD etc... just name it ![]() (Forgive my fuzzy written grammer which you will notice throught the thread. I try to type as fast as my brain processes information, and rarely go back to edit or review.) |
93) Body Languages/Proxemics/Mirroring et al Studies show that face-face human communication goes beyond just the spoken words Infact, more that 50% of our communcication are none verbal In Nigeria, with its strong gesticulating communication style The knowledge of none verbal communication and verbal cues seem very important The way you tell someone: "you dey mad" or "your b.reast is gorgeous" could be the difference between both of you networking over drinks; or being locked in the police cell during the festive season; or being handed a dirty slap; or tumbling gleefully on the bed Many books exist attempting to teach people effective body language I personally prefer watching effective poeple, and then trying to immitate their body languages and verbal cues |
We run to India they run to Singapore Watching the CNN world news, my interest was piqued by the unfortunate story of gang r.ape of a young lady in India The lady is now in a Singapore hospital for treatment. The report also says that Indian officials usually go to Singapore for treatment of their ailments Interesting that our top officials run to Germany for medical treatment Those that have giving up on purely orthodox treatment run to Saudi Arabia hoping that perhaps their God might hear their cries better there And yet our middle cadre officials run to India for treatment while they (Indians) run to Singapore umhhh.............. just musing |
I thought they had fired these Jarus and OAM4J guys ![]() |
I'll speak, then hold my peace on the issue that lead to this apology -"the hall of shame" Seun should let the Achebe vote for the hall of shame stand however, along with the induction it should be clearly stated on the thread, why he was voted into it, and also the majority tribe that voted that Achebe be inducted into the hall of shame let both parties be equally shamed I rest my case (*I am a little bit tipsy as I write, I hope I am making sense*) |
El Guapo: [color=#0066ff]Congrats Big Sista Efemena!really rude i think you should apologise ![]() |
afam4eva: What's really the problem the reps have with this woman. Is it because she exposed Hembe?I guess that is the reason our lawmakers are big babies |

Ishilove: Exactly!!! To whose profit is this exposure?? Why do I need to leave half my b.reasts for the whole world to seebwests and profits? ![]() I refuse to rebuke/castigate/condemn these girls I believe that its our heads that are playing tricks on us my dad tells me that in his days, girls even up to 18yrs old moved around with their bwest unclothed Apparently the colonialists came over armed with the bible and covered our dangling bwests now they have turned around and started unclothing us I think we should allow these girls play around with their bwest while they have youth on their side the night commeth when their breasts would need braces to look like that |

Ishilove: Esere, I am apalled!!!honestly, I wouldn't mind my female relatives , wife, daughter, sisters, girfriends and you dressing like that occasionally It boils down to the occasion, and how picturisque they look in such dresses My brothers girlfriend used to wear extremely short shorts and something like a bra top while helping my mum pound bitterleafs my girfriend couldnt do that , because im body ..... |
Ishilove: You are kidding me, right??are you serious? apart from the n.ipple bit of the girl with the gold colored dress what is indescent in this? they are not even sex.ually provocative I mean it |

Redmosquito: Oya mr young suitor! You have been asked to urinate on the floor! What are you waiting for?Am I the young suitor? If I am, thank God I knew there was a world where I would regain my youthAnd please sirs, may i be allowed to 'pee' in the right place ![]() Somewhere in the bible, God got someone killed for 'peeing' on the floor |
91) Companies/Retailers also use this trick This is how they do it. You go in and buy a shirt, jacket, shoe, wristwatch etc for some 50 thousand naira After such a purchase, they sell an accessory such as cufflinks to you for some 3,999 naira (its true worth might be only 50 naira) You find it extremely easy to purchase this accesory after spending a hefty sum on the main item |
91) Shoprite, dash right In Shoprite Lagos, there are boys that help you push your trolly to the car when your purchases are much The tendency would be for you to want to dash them some change Its little money, but more than any other person in that establishment, they are the ones you feel like dashing money to Calculate the number of shoppers that would use such trolly services and dash those boys money You might be surprised to find out that they earn more than you in a month through the dashes (Even they might not even appreciate this) |
90) The Civil Serveant If you've worked or had business dealings/contracts with the Nigerian civil service you must have noticed this A contractor might haggle on percentages and tips/bribes all through the contract duration however, once he is handed his cheque in the ministry of Finance, he finds it easy to dole out money at that point of collection He does this without even being asked. He is also so happy doing it. You must also have noticed that the folks in the Finance ministries are gentler, better dressed, and richer Even if its the most junior officer that is in that position of cheque handing over. He most likely might be richer than the directors of other ministries without even being a bully O yes,.... I have seen such things |
89) Money sometimes grows on trees uhn uhn...... uhn uhn *nodding head and muttering like pastor chris okotie* If you've experienced both poverty and riches, especially the rich >> poor cycle, you might relate better with this. Its all about location, not necessarily the geographic type but positioning There are some places/roles/positions that have money, it might not be powerful roles, but it is strategic It might be useful for you to know when you are in such positions/locations and maximize it. Indeed, this is too big a topic that I don't know where to start from However, I'll try to pass the message accross using one or two examples |
