Shaytun:I havent read Queen of Tearling series,I have read the rest. I dont really enjoy novels with female protagonist(s),but I will check it out on amazon.Thanks. |
I believe there is stealing going on that we do not know about, yet. |
Blue3k,Henry127,Adminisher,Missy89,panafrican, |
Shaytun:It is indeed shameful, there was a time North Korea wanted to sell us missile technology, our politicians revealed the proposal and got warned off by the US. We have neighbours like Chad and Algeria who are well armed with MiGs and Sukhois, these countries can reach us quite easily and yet we do not see the threat.Nigeria,by virtue of our economy, population and ambition, should have air superiority over sub-saharan africa at least. |
Shaytun:Yes,I have read both the steven erikson's "Malazan Book of the Fallen" series and the Esslemont's "Malazan Empire" series. |
Why dont we implement a "One State,One Product" policy? |
vantage001:Be that as it may,Nigeria can still financially outspend and militarily outnumber Chad,if threatened. Chad's three paltry MiGs will become useless in the face of Nigeria's capability to buy 24 SU-30s or JF-17s within less than two years or field an army of 1,000,000 soldiers in event of a protracted war; The truth is,Nigeria does not percieve any of her neighbours as a military or economic threat(though I think it is a f00lish notion). Nigeria can also place a naval blockade on Chadian commerce. |
Chad was invaded by Nigerian troops during the era of Shehu Shagari,it was the backing of France that prevented our troops(then led by Lt Col Muhammadu Buhari) from chasing the fleeing chadian soldiers into their capital,Njadema. These officers should better shut up if they do not want a repeat of that incident. |
Proudlyngwa:With such a system, the craze for federal power will still remain, and state/LG resources will only be chanelled towards federal ambition. |
vantage001:Even with the term limit, there is massive rigging everywhere. That is why I also advocated for the removal of immunity,if immunity is removed,it would pave way for more check and balance. Term limit is really restricting the continuity needed for economic growth in Nigeria.Just look at Singapore,it took lee kuan yu over 30 years to turn the city-state around,it would probably have taken twice or thrice that time if the country had term limit. If you are looking for African examples, look at Rwanda and to a lesser extent Kenya. |
vantage001:It would still be the same 4 year term, but without limit of how many times a particular person can be reelected consecutively; so if the people feel that a leader hasnt performed, they can remove him/her after 4 years when election comes around. |
Proudlyngwa:I think if the governors have more resources, they will actually perform better.Infact,if the craze for federal power is removed from the equation, the governors will actually sit up to their duties, what is happening now is as a result of everyone wanting to go to Abuja,so they see their governorship positions as a mere stepping stone to "greater" ambition, hence they do not take their office seriously. If we were to make the Presidency and NASS largely ceremonial(except for military, internal security and foreign affairs),the governorship positions will begin to be seen as the peak of political career. |
Jaymaxxy:I think if the majority think Mr. A can do it,they should be allowed to vote him in as long as they want; it is an infringement on the citizens' democratic rights to remove that decision from their hands. It ensures that a country has consistent implementation of policies, instead of the numerous unfinished plans kick-started by various governments. But I agree that for such a thing to happen, some restructuring must first be done. |
Proudlyngwa:True. We need to decentralize/restructure our federalism(remove power from the centre and let states control their resources; a weakened centre will make the scramble for federal power unattractive),and then back it up with a strong national reorientation that would be incorporated into our educational syllabus. We can then remove term limit and executive immunity. |
Setting limit to the number of times a person can be elected to a particular political office(especially in presidential systems of government) degrades continuity of critical policies and could hinder re-election of a preferred candidate simply because such an individual has exceeded the term limit; this is undemocratic, why not let the people decide how long a person can rule them?. I think term limit should be removed and then executive immunity should also be removed in order to reduce the powers of political officials,as well as provide a check and balance whereby a political executive can be impeached by the judiciary in case of mismanagement of office. Interesting In President Buhari's bid to limit the powers of his "kingmakers" by refusing recommendations to surround himself with "strange" faces,he went ahead to install acquintances who neither understand his mandate nor suscribe to his ideology; the result is an unstable and incoherent government. Things can still be remedied. |
No one is launching any nuclear warhead,it would only be chest beating and noise making,at worst, there could be conventional strikes, but a cease fire would be arranged shortly after. |
mmsen:Alright....in any case,she is now a Nigerian. |
Factfinder1:Does "Alakija" sound British?....it should be easy to decode from the name that the lady is Nigerian-born. |
mmsen:Polly Alakija....Alakija is Nigerian,probably a Nigerian-born British muralist. |
More apartments for "covert" operations....lols This is fantastic though,I hope the deadline for the completion of the whole project will be met. |
I still dont understand why anyone would build houses and shops on a rail line in the first place; same way people will insist on building houses near/on rivers and under high tension pole despite government warnings, later when disaster occurs, they begin accusing the government of negligence.Sometimes, the citizens need to respect themselves. |
Interesting....if the ERGP is implemented,Nigeria will be part of the G20 by 2030,even without restructuring and decentralization. Nigeria should begin to accept reasonable reforms, exploit the african market and diversify our economic partners using a "Friend-To-All" foreign policy similar to India. |
Nigeria will likely be far higher than that by 2050,we'd probably be top 10. |
Blue3k:Nigeria needs to restructure in order to correct many anomalies in the system.Politicians these days see the LGs as only a stepping stone for future ambitions, hence, they treat the position with a lackadiasical indifference, even going as far as embezzling the pittance grudgingly released to them by the SG. Power must first be decentralized, the SGs will automatically have more responsibilities and have no choice but to shift some of it to the LGs; this can then be followed by giving the LGs fiscal autonomy. If fiscal autonomy is given to the LGs with our current unitary federalism, politicians would only commandeer the public funds for their bid to get to the centre. PS: I have noticed that Blue3k looks quite handsome..hmm |
Rosskii:How do you know this?,NK is a hermit nation with a tightly controlled media, only few rare pictures and videos get released once in a while; there is no way to know how the citizens of that country are faring, western media reports may well be propaganda. |
Daniel.
It is a enlightenment book. |
Very amusing... |
The aim was probably not to kill him,but to cow him. Its the game they all play, violence and propaganda, without any tangible effort towards the welfare of the citizenry. |
Bism:True marxism will stifle development in any country that possess a large population(proletariat). |
