Greensaint: Do you think your caption is appropriate for what is contained therein or you are now guilty of same offence?I'm not guilty of anything because I got involved in the Ebola response as soon as I could. My contributions may be small, but they are real and have made a difference. And even if I was just another hypocrite, it wouldn't change the fact that most people are making things worse with their utterances instead of helping. This nonsense has to stop! |
There's also out useless press that has not only elevated victim bashing to a high art, but also insists on publishing their names and even their pictures. And that's despite knowing that their families will be stigmatized by clueless Nigerians who never bother finding the out the facts before doing talking and acting. The other day, I was disgusted by the was those useless papers went about using a dead woman's picture to make money, its really sad. This outbreak is really testing my faith in humanity. |
I'm starting this thread because I'm sick and tired of all the nonsense I've been hearing and reading about the Ebola victims. The general reaction to this outbreak has been appalling! Nigerians have spent so much energy complaining and abusing people and so little trying to make things better. This morning there was a front page thread where people criticized the care victims were getting and abused the volunteer caregivers who are constantly risking their lives and those of their families. Yet none of those hypocrites complaining have lifted a finger to help aside from repeating useless platitudes and saying useless prayers. If you want to help the Ebola victims, then volunteer, wear the spacesuit, enter their rooms and help them. Or you can donate medical equipment to them. Or write them letters of encouragement, or get well soon cards. Or you can educate people to to stop stigmatizing them and their families. Otherwise please shut up. Second is the way people insist on demonizing the victims. Everybody keeps on abusing the poor nurse who went to Enugu as if she is some kind of witch instead of an innocent victim who got sick and had no motive to endanger anyone. Everyone just swallowed to nonsense statements made by that Labaran Maku clown without question. It is sad that a federal minister can make such a poorly reasoned and factually incorrect statement about someone who is struggling for her life. Maybe when she is strong enough, she'll go on the internet and see the rubbish you people have been saying about her. Then there's Mr. Jonathan himself who shocked the oyimbos by calling the late Liberian at the centre of the outbreak "a madman", despite the fact that he was severely ill and probably delirious when he boarded the flight. And our president made this statement while addressing religious leaders, i.e. the same charlatans who promote the "its not Ebola in Jesus name" type of magical thinking that encourages people to delay treatment thus endangering others. Then there's the annoying practice of stigmatizing patients families, and the health workers treating Ebola patients. Even health workers who have nothing to do with the Ebola response are being stigmatized. Then when the next victim stays at home and refuses to admit its more than malaria, you'll start abusing them for endangering society when its selfish hypocrites like you who are the danger. I'm sorry for the long rant, but every time I read Nigerians' comments on Ebola it just pisses me off! It's one thing to refuse to help, its something else to actively make things worse with your bullshít righteous indignation and you useless statements. If you want to offer some useful and tangible help (not useless prayers) then go and help. Volunteer to wear the spacesuit, write a letter, spend some money, send flowers if you like. If you're not willing to help then at least STFU and stop making things worse for them. |
Anybody who isn't happy with how the Ebola patients are being cared for is welcome to wear the space suit, go in and take care of them. They're still looking for volunteers. Its easy to sit in the safety of your homes and offices and complain and demonize those who are risking their lives every day to care for them. You hypocrites are all part of the problem. You've done nothing to help other than whining and complaining and useless prayers, yet you feel justified to condemn others. You are even abusing the poor nurse who is just another innocent victim and had no motive to endanger others. How do you know that she's not reading this thread and losing hope? If you want to help the Ebola victims, then come and volunteer. Or send them letters of encouragement, or get well soon cards. Or educate people around you to stop stigmatizing victims, family members and the health workers who care for them. If you're not willing to do something tangible and useful, then at least have the decency to STFU and stop your whining. |
Orikinla: HALLELUJAH!Everybody is praising god and Allah and Jesus and the angels and saints and Fashola and even kolanut. But not a single word about the brave doctors, nurses and attendants that are repeatedly risking their lives to take care of these people. FYI, the reason we aren't seeing a 90% death rate is because some human beings (not spirits) are going in to give them the treatment they need. Why is there no gratitude, and no concern about their safety? Why can't we give credit where credit is due? Nigerians are a sad group of people. |
It is certainly possible, even likely that the stories are based on a real person (or more than one) that actually existed and was executed by the Romans. Vagrant, ascetic, apocalyptic Jewish mystic peasant holymen were dime a dozen in first century Palestine. It is also possible that some of his philosophy still survives within christian writings. But the Jesus that walked around doing magic, rose from the grave and flew into heaven is clearly fictional. No serious academic still thinks the gospels are a reliable historical account. And Acts of the Apostles is at best a historical novel, even when you ignore the fact that one third of the book was added to it centuries later by christian forgers. |
What NBA is saying doesn't make any sense. Just because your religion says you should do something doesn't mean society can't ban it. Otherwise we'd have to legalize killing infidels and kidnapping women since the Boko Haram people have the right to practice their religion as they see fit. Nigeria is a secular country with secular laws which are not subject to any religious interpretation. Your religious beliefs do not make you exempt from any law passed for the benefit of society. Your religion doesn't entitle you to special treatment and it doesn't allow you to spoil things for others. Allowing people to walk around with their faces covered is clearly a threat to everyone's safety and security. The fact that some Muslims don't agree is their problem and nobody else's. And the fact that the people who have made this such an urgent issue are all from the Muslim community makes their argument even more ridiculous. The law is the law. If you don't like it, you can either pay the penalty for breaking it, or move to a place that values your particular religious beliefs over common sense. Nigeria needs to stop pandering to religious people and do what is right. |
waternogetenemy: The BBC clearly don't realize that he's a certificate forger. Where they're from, petty criminals usually don't rise to the level where they're allowed to conduct national elections. If he's really been researching a cure for the past 15 years, why is it impossible to find a single paper he's written or coauthored on the subject? Why hasn't anyone cited any of his work? Where is his lab? Which other scientists is he working with? Anyone who knows anything about science will know that the surest sign of a fake is that he doesn't publish anything and nobody can verify his work. Also, if he didn't forge his certificate, why is his school disclaiming him? It would be easy to put saharareporters to shame by releasing a copy and getting his school to clarify the issue. But all we've heard is "I don't have time to respond to these baseless allegations!" That's the same thing Salisu Buhari said. |
Christianity is also a cult. The words cult and religion are synonymous. |
^^^Lies for Jesus! It doesn't matter how many people we kill by spreading disinformation and superstition. As long as we manage to scare more people into joining our ancient cult. In Jesus name, amen. |
If god wants money, he should get a job just like everybody else. |
Liveair: Clearly, the US and Canada as you have stated are not doing badly considering their sizes and population with repect to other nations listed. The US and Canada are not doing badly because they are wealthy first world nations where post people have access to advanced healthcare and public safety measures are strictly enforced. It has nothing to do with Jesus. And I only included UAE because you asked about it. Plus even if you added Muslims, it wouldn't help your case because the countries with the greatest numbers of Muslims are almost invariably third world shîtholes. The percentage Muslim population of Denmark and Japan is negligible and there are no predominantly Muslim countries with comparably low infant mortality figures so the Muslims would just drag down your numbers and make things worse for you. Even if you could prove that the countries in the picture I posted were cherry-picked (and you can't because they weren't), you'd still not have any evidence that prayer works. All you have is a bunch of anecdotes, and anecdotes are basically worthless as evidence. |
Jackeeh: You can't get me cos I'm way above you. But for those of you who are believing God for something, please hold fast with unwavering faith because the devil is everywhere, even on nairaland. He's got agents here as well who are out to destroy ur faith in God through senseless arguments and theories. As a christian, believe the word of God totally and refuse to be deceived. It works if you hold on fast. Jesus is Lord. His Word is the same, yesterday, today and forever. Refuse to believe otherwise. satan knows that it's only through faith that u can receive from God. So I just laugh when I see his agents here on nairaland try to destroy people's faith. Brethren, beware satan is speaking through his agents in nairaland. Be steadfast and immovable^^^And this is exactly why I hate religion. This is an educated guy who has a perfectly treatable condition, yet he's refusing to get help because he's "holding on to his faith". Religion literally kills people! It makes otherwise intelligent people make stûpid decisions with terrible consequences. If you know how many HIV and cancer patients I've seen who've died or suffered needlessly because they delayed proper treatment while waiting for magic healing, you wouldn't be surprised I'm an atheist. I hope it turns out well for him sha, though I'm not optimistic. Maybe someone else can talk some sense into him. |
The internet is killing religion everywhere and Saudi Arabia is not an exception. There's less poverty, disease and more personal security so people don't feel the need to call for supernatural help anymore. Knowledge is now freely available and everyone can clearly see how successful secular science has been and how little religion has achieved in comparison. And most of all, religious people have lost control of the conversation. They can no longer monologue endlessly without anyone challenging them. The internet has made it possible to call them out on their bullshît and expose just how weak all their arguments are. And this is just the beginning. Within the next 20 years, virtually everyone everywhere is going to have cheap internet access on cheap and powerful mobile devices. The generation that grows up in that environment is going to look at the mullahs and the pastors like they are crazy. We're already seeing young people in Europe and America abandoning religion in droves. As the older generation start to die off, the percentage of religious people is going to fall like a stone. The next few decades are going to be fun to watch. https://wp.patheos.com.s3.amazonaws.com/blogs/progressivesecularhumanist/files/2014/04/proud-to-be-atheist.jpg |
Some of you Christians are really showing your ugly side in this thread. Just admit that you misspoke, apologise, and move on. It costs you nothing, what's the big deal? You're not exactly covering your religion in glory right now. |
This is old news. The guy had been stealing money from the church for years and had been using his status and influence to keep people quiet. Eventually some church members said enough is enough and reported him and his corrupt son to the police. The annoying thing is that the judge still gave him a very light sentence compared to the seriousness of crimes and the fact that it was recurent embezzlement, not just one episode.. Because he was a big man pastor so even though he is a habitual thief, apparently he must still be a "good person". |
OLAADEGBU: This shows that American public schools brainwashes their students into believing evolution as facts. Can you please explain to me why a teacher should be bringing up "Christ" in a science classroom? Would you have been defending her if the cartoon had said "creation (Allah) vs evolution (Shaitan)"? Do you think a public school science class is a forum for religious proselytising? Would you like it if your child was indoctrinated into Islam or Mormonism (or any other religion you don't agree with) by a teacher whose salary comes from your taxes? Are you aware that in the US, it is illegal to use public funds to promote any religion? Do you think that the rules that allow people of different faiths (or no faith) to live side by side in peace don't apply to you? Do you think that you should be exempted from laws that protect kids from being preyed on by those who would abuse their positions of authority? Why, because your superstitions are somehow better than other peoples superstitions? Tell me again how what this teacher did is not an embarrassment to the teaching profession, and a disservice to those poor children who just want to learn some science without a misguided and unscrupulous fanatic polluting the knowledge with religious bûllshít. |
Jackeeh: Awwwww so bitter and pained. Why? Lol. Well, If it will ease ur pain n bitterness a little, lol, I hv my previous and new test results. Been negative since December 2012. Don't worry I'll go check again just to be sure all d hospitals I've visited for d test don't hv faulty machines. Even a medical doctor is in awe of this unnatural happening even though he believes miracles do happen sha.lol. So u see, ur opinions don't matter here. Lmao. I wish I knew you in person so u could do the test yourself. Only then would you believe. Or if u had a diagnostic centre, I wouldn't mind testing there. Lol. Buh since that ain't possible, I just have to enjoy what I've been supernaturally blessed with and no "evil brain" can even take that away. And I ain't afraid of anything. I tell whoever cares to listen. What do I hv to be ashamed of? I've been given a second chance and not even satan can take that away.I'm not bitter and pained, I'm trying to save your life so keep the christian tribal attitude to one side and listen. Did you do a confirmatory test? Because the HIV test they usually do to screen people is a "quick and dirty" type that has a high rate of false positives and false negatives. Once someone has tested positive, you don't repeat the same rapid test again. Instead you do a proper confirmatory test which ideally would be a PCR test to look for HIV DNA, or at the very least a full ELISA test. Write those acronyms down and ask your doctor to refer you to the nearest federal teaching hospital's APIN clinic to do them (or NIMR at Yaba if you live in Lagos). If you do a confirmatory test and its negative, I'll agree and even pop some champagne for you. But you have no business telling yourself you're negative if you haven't done a confirmatory test. You are playing with serious fire. HIV is now a disease you can live with to a ripe old age and still have healthy, HIV-negative children without any outsiders even knowing you're positive. But AIDS is a different matter, I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Go and do the confirmatory test. And if you get bad news, face it head on, take your drugs and move on with your life. Seriously!!! |
Jackeeh: Simply because you're carnal doesn't make the word of God contradictory. To say the least, I don't expect a natural mind like yours to understand the things of the spirit. God is spirit and they that worship Him must do so in Spirit and in truth, not in reality. Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and all things ( including "reality" ) will be added unto you.The thing is, I was a born again, spirit-filled, tongue speaking christian when I started noticing all the contradictions and logical holes in the bible. Why do you think I read the thing so many times? You can't explain the problems with the bible by claiming that you need magic eyes to truly understand it. Practically every religion from Islam to Amorc make similar claims about their own sacred sacred texts and its all nonsense. From the world's point of view, I ought to have died or at least prepare to die since I was pronounced HIV positive. Pls tell me, are there drugs for its cure that I'm not aware of? I didn't go to any "powerful " man of God for prayers. I completely and "foolishly" relied on God's word even when it seemed hopeless. If there's no God, how on earth has my health status changed from positive to negative? I ask again, are there drugs that cure HIV? If there were, maybe you could say the drugs saved me. I pray you seek God through your spirit and not through your emotions and senses. Only then will you find him. It takes me just seconds to understand a passage in the Bible by the Holy Spirit's help than it would take you years, even if you read from cover to cover till eternity, through your natural mindIf you tested positive, you should be brave and face reality. HIV isn't a death sentence any more. There are drugs now that are very effective and widely available. HIV is now basically a chronic illness like hypertension and diabetes, take your drugs and you'll be fine. You're not helping yourself by living in denial. And you're not helping others in similar positions by promoting this fairytale that god can magically cure AIDS. And worst of all, you may be endangering your loved ones by not taking precautions to stop them from getting infected from you. The fact is that for now there is no cure, not in church or anywhere else. That is the reality and you need to deal with it. I hope you realize the truth before you start getting sick. |
More and more studies are providing evidence that homophobic people are mainly just self-loathing closet homosexuals. There was one study from 1996 that showed that "straight" self-described homophobic men were aroused by gay pr0n while straight men who said they didn't have anything against gays weren't. There are plenty of other studies supporting this as well as plenty of articles talking about it. And of course, there are so many examples of anti-gay campaigners who later turned out to be practicing homosexuals in secret. Off the top of my head, there's Pastor Ted Haggard, Pastor Eddy Long, US Senator Larry Craig. Apparently its a very common thing in the US for antigay campaigners to be outed by their angry, gay ex-partners. You atheists should shut up abeg! Prayer works dammit, and I have the statistics to prove it! https://wp.patheos.com.s3.amazonaws.com/blogs/wwjtd/files/2014/06/UYCsGTT-1024x1024.jpg Oh, wait... never mind. |
The bible doesn't even agree with itself. (You should seriously follow the link!) https://remnantbride.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/Bible_Contradictions1-530x300.jpg |
Jackeeh: Instead of swallowing hook, line, and sinker the lies the world dishes out, why don't you search the scriptures concerning the issues you're confused about?I've actually read the bible cover to cover twice, and the new testament 3 times. The problem isn't what the bible says, the problem is that it doesn't agree with reality. |
OLAADEGBU: Why didn't you quote the link and leave folks to read it themselves? Must you give us your own biased opinion instead of facts?'Cos I don't want to post a wall of text and I assume that most people know how to point and click. But now that you've posted the full article, please explain how it debunks big bang physics when even the scientists who did the work didn't make that claim. |
Samueldo: If Prayer can raise the dead i believe nothing is imposible. But we should not be fooledSad news bro, prayer doesn't work. Sorry. https://wp.patheos.com.s3.amazonaws.com/blogs/wwjtd/files/2014/06/UYCsGTT-1024x1024.jpg |
Jackeeh: It seems ure an amputee. Take heart. Have u thought of getting an artificial limb? You know it's God who gave innovative ideas to scientists to create artificial limbs. So in a way, he has answered. Is is possible that you don't see how ridiculous the bolded is? Has religion fried your brain so completely? ![]() https://i1.ytimg.com/vi/cLyhN2502S4/maxresdefault.jpg https://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/236x/ff/88/ef/ff88ef69c795583d795248229e635ba1.jpg |
I was wandering why OP and his fellow Christians never posted a link to a source article. So I did a quick Google search and immediately found out why. It turns out that what the scientists actually found was that the current big bang model breaks down when you incorporate the newly elucidated properties of the Higg's bosun. That doesn't mean we should throw away the whole theory. Virtually all the predictions big bang physics has made have turned out the be spot on, so the theory is clearly sound. This finding only means that there's something we haven't taken into account yet i.e. the model is incomplete. And that's exactly what the scientists involved said. Robert Hogan, the guy who lead the study said this: “The generic expectation is that there must be some new physics that we haven't put in our theories yet, because we haven't been able to discover them," New physics by the way is something that every scientist hopes for. Unlike religious sheep, scientists don't just try to validate what they already believe, they try to find the flaws in their work so that they can improve it. Once again, you people have been caught lying for Jesus. I don't know why you keep doing it when you know you're just going to get caught. www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2666906/Big-Bang-controversy-grows-Universe-collapsed-second-formed-Bicep2-results-true.html *Edited to add DailyFail link. |
What Weah96 said. Also, please post a link to the source article or if possible the original paper. Its not that I don't trust you, just that Christians have been known to lie about, misrepresent and deliberately misunderstand scientific findings to defend their false beliefs. |
Mrval20: Ok, so portraying herself as virgin Mary and her baby as Jesus Christ looks so so so normal to you?As long as they aren't portraying themselves as Sango and Yemoja, I don't see how this is disrespecting god. |
Wow! 13 pages! This must have hit the front page while I was away. And see the way the Christians are twisting their brains like spaghetti trying to make this ark story make sense. Most of the questions I and others raised still haven't been satisfactorily answered though. You guys should keep trying sha. I'm sure you'll eventually find logical answers to all of them. After all, the bible can't be wrong.

Found a copy at hurvi.org Here's the link (PDF warning). Its exactly the same bill! How did it take 2 years to pass if they didn't even change anything? |
