Outside of the bible stories, there is not a shred of evidence that Solomon ever existed. No archeologist has ever found a single stone from any structure he built. We've discovered cities far older than ancient Israel supposedly is; we even have many fragments of their written works that have now been translated, yet there is not a single reference to Saul, David, Absalom Solomon, Rehoboam, or any other king of Isreal. In fact the only early references to the Isreal (or rather, Judah) are from the the time of the Babylonian conquest.

Even the people who lived in the area around the time have been confirmed (through the artefacts they left behind) to have been pagans. There is no discernible difference between their religion and those of the nations surrounding them before 500 b.c.e. when monotheism first appeared.

The bible stories are just stories. Solomon is as much a myth as Oduduwa.

To be fair to the Catholics, they've been far less willing to contradict science than the Pentecostals. Pope John-Paul actually endorsed the theory of evolution back in the day and acknowledged the big bang theory. There are Catholic priests making serious contributions in many fields of science and the church doesn't seem to be discouraging them.

I guess they must have learnt their lesson from the time they made complete föõls of themselves claiming the sun goes round the earth and forcing Gallileo to agree with them on pain of death.

I've been coming out slowly at work for the past year or so. Most of the colleagues I'm close to already know I'm an atheist. Plenty of others at least suspect it. Whenever anybody at work asks about my religion, I usually tell the truth except when it's a oga who has the ability to mess up my career (then I lie my ãśş off!)

So far, other than some preaching, everybody has been fairly cool about it. The worst that has happened is when one guy started blabbing his mouth to everybody (including my fanatical then-boss who was known for imposing his radical Christianity on everybody under him). The guy in question later apologised though and we're now cool.

What I've found is that when you have a good reputation and people like you, they are more tolerant of your atheism. It also helps if there are enough devoutly religious people around acting like complete åsshöles.

On the other hand, you need to be careful about religiously intolerant bosses who can seseriously harm your career it they know. This is Nigeria, so it's not as if you can sue if you get discriminated against. A little bit of tactical lying can save you a lot of trouble.

The bible doesn't say anywhere that pastors shouldn't sleep with children. In fact its easier to argue that it encourages it.

Numbers 31 vs 17 and 18:
"Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him. (18) But all the women children, that have not known man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves."

And while the bible says a man shouldnt lie with another man, it doesn't say anything about 14 year old boys.

These child râping pastors are perfectly in order as far as the scriptures are concerned.

These pastors need to travel to Vatican city, Rome to go and learn from the best.

They need to learn better ways to:
1. Molest children without being caught.
2. Cover up cases of child molestation whenever they are detected.
3. Settle victims and bribe their families to avoid lawsuits.
4. Move child molesting MOGs to a new areas as soon as people start suspecting them, thus prolonging their child molestation careers.
5. Protect their leaders from the long arm of the law.

It seems that the Christians are taking this to mean that science is somehow confirming the biblical Adam and Eve myth. This couldn't be farther from the truth.

The "Ancient Adam" being referred to is just the most recent male common ancestor of all humans presently living. He wasn't the first man, or the only man alive at the time. There was nothing different special about him at the time. Plus as people die and more are born, the title of most recent common ancestor will inevitably shift to someone else. Its not a permanent thing, rather its constantly changing as the human population changes.

The same science tells us that there have never been fewer that 50,000 individuals at any point throughout the existence of the human race. And then there is the small fact that molecular genetics (the field of biology this study belongs) is completely married to Darwin's theory of evolution.

The truth is that the story of Adam and Eve is nonsense. At best you can say is that it's a metaphor. But if in 2013 with the discovery of DNA and all we've learnt from it, you still think Adam and Eve really existed, then you need to surrender your WAEC certificate because you're an illiterate.

The retired archbishop was speaking at the launch of a UN-backed campaign in South Africa to promote gay rights.
Despite same-sex relationships being legal in South Africa, it had some of the worst cases of homophobic violence, UN human rights chief Navi Pillay said.

Guy, listen. You can't just quote bible to an atheist and expect that to convince him. Atheists don't believe in the bible. To them it's just a bunch of nonsense written by superstitious pre-industrial holymen. You might as well quote from the Bhagavad gita and expect that to convince a Christian that cows are holy.

If you want to convince an atheist, you need to base your argument on logic and evidence. Appeals scriptural authority only work on those who already believe in your scriptures ie Christians.

I'm not careless. I treated my nexus 7 like an egg. I never dropped it or put anything on it or even sat down with it in my pocket. The thing still broke after the most trivial contact. I didn't even know when it happened, that's how minor it was.

Plus I known 2 other guys whose nexuses didn't ever last that long. One of them was on his second one. Atheists internet is filled stories of the nexus 7 and nexus 4 breaking at the slightest contact. Those things are flimsy as hell.

If your religion prohibits blasphemy, then don't do it. But don't expect those of us who don't follow your religion to be subject to its laws. Sensible people will never allow fanatics to islamize (or christianize) Nigeria by legislating their religious beliefs and forcing them on those of us who don't believe in that rubbish. The Tecno is definitely better. I have both a Samsung galaxy tab 2 7.0 and an Asus Nexus 7 and I got to play with the Tecno N9 for a while yesterday.

The build quality seem decent enough, though it doesn't have gorilla glass and the it's not as solid as the galaxy tab (though neither is the nexus). The screen is better than Samsung's though its not quite up to the nexus 7's quality. The aspect ratio is a little funny (similar to the iPads) but it has a slightly higher resolution than the galaxy. It also runs stock android 4.2.1 and it's very smooth and responsive. I don't know what chipset and GPU it's using, but its much faster than the galaxy. Samsung has already announced that the galaxy tab 2 won't be updated past 4.1, and they've apparently forgotten to push the last update to Africa 6 months after people in Europe got it. I can't vouch for the tecnos battery life though the Samsung's is mediocre.

The only advantage the Samsung has over the Tecno is the more sturdy build quality and the brand name. In all other ways, the Tecno is better. And its low price makes it a total whitewash.

The only fair comparison is between the Tecno and the Nexus 7. Both have quad core processors, both run stock jelly bean, and both are cheap. OTOH, both have questionable to rubbish build quality (every single Nexus 7 I've ever seen has a broken screen, including mine). The nexus probably edges it because of its higher resolution screen and it's guaranteed future updates, but if the Tecno can last more than 3 weeks without breaking, then it'll be a very close race.

I'm aactually thinking of selling my galaxy tab and getting a Tecno, just for the jelly bean alone.

The danger with posting things like this here is that many Nairaland Christians are not smart enough to realize that it's just a joke.
