Science/TechnologyRe: Google Receives License For Self Drive Service In Nigeria by EvilBrain1(m): 11:15pm On May 19, 2012
drnoel: Google receives license for Self drive service in Nigeria. Is this dangerous? It may be part of developement and I am for developement but in a country like Nigeria where good things are abused would this not be encroaching on peoples right to privacy and worse am robbery. please share ur input. please anyone who can shed more light should feel free to do so.

Link below: http://newsnet.com.ng/betta/content/google-gets-license-self-drive-car
What the hell was OP smoking when he posted this? I followed the link and I didn't see anything about Google bringing these cars to Nigeria. Major reading comprehension fail.

P.S. Kudos to Google for developing this very cool technology. Human beings are too often drunk, distracted or rëtarded. The sooner we stop allowing them to drive cars, the safer we'll all be.
Science/TechnologyRe: Cell Phones, Cancers And Brain Tumors. Is There A Connection? by EvilBrain1(m): 10:32pm On May 19, 2012
Radiation from cellphones can't cause cancer. The frequency of the radiation, and therefore it's energy is far too low for it to interact with matter in such a way. Visible light is exactly the same type of radiation only at a much higher energy. Therefore, if phones can cause cancer, then lightbulbs must be a thousand times worse.

If you did physics in secondary school and you still don't understand this, then methinks that you must be rëtarded.
Christianity EtcRe: Is Nigeria A Secular Or Religious State? by EvilBrain1(m): 7:18pm On May 19, 2012
I'm an atheist, but a few years ago I got this idea to establish a local Church of Satan here. That way, I could sue the government for religious discrimination and force them to pay for a plane ticket to Las Vegas plus money for gambling and fücking ashäwo in order to fulfill my religious obligation. They would either have to recognize all religions equally (including devil worship) or stop wasting our public money on this rëtarded pilgrimage cräp.

A lawyer friend of mine convinced me that it could never work because too many judges are religious bigots and wouldn't rule objectively, plus I would probably get assasinated by the fanatics before I got to the supreme court.
Christianity EtcRe: The Gay Bible Version by EvilBrain1(m): 8:31pm On May 18, 2012
People have been changing things in the bible from time immemorial. The idea that the bible we have now is the same as when the books were written is not based on reality.

These guys should change whatever they like, the bible doesn't belong to any one group. If you have a problem with it, then don't read it and pretend you never saw this thread.
HealthRe: Federal Doctors In Lagos Begin Solidarity Strike For Sacked Colleagues by EvilBrain1(m): 4:28pm On May 18, 2012
I'm a doctor and I haven't been paid for months either. I still go to work everyday even though I'm usually balls to the wall broke.

People don't really understand what these doctors are fighting for. It's not really about the small amount of money Lagos refused to pay. It's about the principle that your employer cannot tamper with your money no matter what, even if they are the government. It's to show that when you sign an agreement, you have to keep your end no matter who you are. Might is not right.

If you look at it in those terms, then the doctors are really fighting for all Nigerians.

For a single guy like me, it would be so easy to move to Ghana and get more money for doing less work in a far safer and saner environment. The reason I stay here is because money is not really the issue. The same applies to most doctors.
Nairaland GeneralRe: How Much Do You Spend On Electricity In Nigeria??? by EvilBrain1(m): 2:14pm On May 17, 2012
I typically spend about 8 thousand per week on petrol to run my gen at night. This is because NEPA is virtually nonexistent in my area and Surulere is crazily hot and full of mosquitos. There's also the cost of engine oil and repairs everytime it breaks down.

I used to pay over N7000 per month on NEPA bills which were always estimated even though I have a perfectly functional meter (I once got a bill of N8000 despite the transformer haven blown 6 weeks earlier.)

Eventually, I got tired and went to see my marketer. I ended up paying over 21k to settle outstanding bills and to pay various fees to fix all the clerical fückups that led to them not reading my meter. Now my bill is less than N200 a month. Though I still think it's too much considering how many hours a week I get light.
Christianity EtcRe: marriage by EvilBrain1(m): 2:13pm On May 16, 2012
Move to another church, or get married at a registry. Those churvhes are no where near as important as people think they are. Take this as an opportunity to escape from their overbearing influence.

Make sure you and your woman attend an HIV clinic together though so you can be counselled on how to protect you and your future children from getting infected and so that she can live a long and healthy life.

Ignore all the ignoramuses who don't know anything about how HIV spreads. There are thousands of discordant Nigerian couples in exactly the same situation as you. It's not ideal, but with the right precautions, you guy's will be fine.

Christianity EtcRe: Reasons Why I Know Obama Is Not A Christian by EvilBrain1(m): 10:07pm On May 15, 2012
OP has given us an excellent example of what is called the "No true Scotsman fallacy". Basically, he's trying to say that because Obama doesn't oppose gay marriage and doesn't pander to right wing evagelicals, among other crimes, he can't be a real Christian.

OP doesn't seem to realize that christianity isn not defined by his narrow-minded beliefs. You don't get to decide who is a "real christian" and who isn't. Chrisrians are a very diverse group holding wildly varying beliefs and opinions, many of which would seem completely foreign to us. Nothing Obama has done makes him any less a christian than any other church-goer.

One could just as easily argue that Olaadegbu's obvious lack of religious tolerance mean's he's not a true christian. To me he sounds pretty similar to an al'Queda spokesman when he starts talking about people whose beliefs confict with his.

PoliticsRe: Lagos State To Legalize Voluntary Cremation Of Corpses by EvilBrain1(m): 7:29pm On Apr 11, 2012
D sage: Cremation is alien to our culture and religions belief,i dnt think its a right tin for any govt to make it legal since its against our traditions.

Cremation to those that started it,was not as a result of lack/inadequate land to buried their dead but culture/tradition.
I'm sick of people spouting this religion and culture rubbish. First of all, nobody gives a cr@p about your religious beliefs, Nigeria is a secular state and just because something is against your faith doesn't mean nobody should be allowed to do it.

Second, what is culture? Culture is the way of life of a people. It's not rigid or fixed, it changes with time and place.Tea drinking wasn't in our culture a century ago, and neither was posting on the internet. Should they be illegal too? If there is even one single Nigerian who prefers to be cremated when he dies, then it means cremation is in our culture.

Stop being so narrow minded.
PoliticsRe: Goodluck Jonathan Listed On Times 100 Most Important People On Earth by EvilBrain1(m): 6:40am On Mar 31, 2012
GEJ made the list because he's the president of a large country that has been in the American news recently, no big deal. Also in the list are Basheer Asad, Beyonce, Novak Djukovic, Hameed Karzai and Lady Gaga.

Personally if I was going to vote, It'd be for Azeez Ansari. Lord knows, the guy has done more to better my life in the past year than Jonathan has.

PoliticsRe: Separation Of Church And State: Do You Support It? by EvilBrain1(m): 3:22pm On Mar 29, 2012
I'll even go a step further: absolutely no religion in any setting where public money is being spent.

No assembly prayers or teaching of CRK/IRK in public schools. No opening prayer at public functions, no more inaugurations in mosques. And the government should immediately sell both the national mosque and the national ecumenical centre, and stop spending our scarce resources on religion.

If you want you kids to get religious instruction in school, then you should pay for it yourself. I should be able to send my kid to a public school without having to worry about his teacher indoctrinating him into some strange religion with my tax money.

It's never going to happen in Nigeria though. Politicians aren't going to risk offending the born-again/sharia crowd. And the born-again/sharia crowd will never bother to think about the consequences of the ret@rded policies they advocate.
SportsRe: Tom Saintfiet, A Belgian Is Super Eagles Tech Director For $20k Monthly by EvilBrain1(m): 10:58pm On Mar 28, 2012
I think we should withhold judgement on the guy for now. He's no Mourinho, but he's had a decent career so far. If he can introduce some tactical discipline into the Eagle's play, then this could turn into a brilliant signing. In any case it's unlikely that we'll become any more useless than we already are because of him or any other oyimbo.

Let's wait and see.
Christianity EtcRe: Jehovah Witnesses And Blood? by EvilBrain1(m): 2:15pm On Mar 25, 2012
Don't think you can convince any witnesses to change their beliefs about the blood issue. I'm sure you are aware that they didn't arrive at their current position on blood following any kind of rational thought process. Like in all religions, they believe what they believe because they've been spoonfed by other Jehovah's witnesses. It's pure groupthink.

Personally, I don't care if they accept blood or not. If some JW chooses to die unnecessarily because of his religion, that's his right and his problem. I just want them to stop discouraging others from donating blood so that non-JWs will have a decent chance of surviving when we have accidents, difficult labours or serious illnesses.

The fact is that most JWs I've seen cave in and accept blood when told point-blank that they are, or their child is, going to die without it (I'm a doctor). This is sheer hypocrisy because those same people would have been going around preaching against blood donation and reducing the amount and quality of blood available to everyone else.

When I become president, I'm going to force everyone who publicly opposes blood donation to have "no blood" tattooed to their chest so that everyone will know not to give them blood and shorten everybody else's ration. The anti-blood people get to go to heaven early, and the rest of us get to stay here on earth a bit longer. Everybody wins!
Christianity EtcRe: Can Heaven Satisfy All? by EvilBrain1(m): 3:35am On Mar 25, 2012
Sweetnecta: ^^^ A 1K years back, some "Sophisticated pundits" would have said "how can rational, educated, rightly thinking people" say there is computer? Subhannallah. Today. Computers are even an academic tool.

It shows that when a person dies, he will reach a place he would not reach alive. He will discover that there is truly a fitting reward; Mercy for those who obeyed, then justice to those who have not received Mercy and they will get punished as the Judge Wills.
Your analogy makes no sense. Even though modern computers hadn't been invented 1000 years ago, if it was possible to go back in time and explain the concept of them to a reasonably intelligent person from that era, he'd say "yeah, that makes sense". If you gave such a person the required knowledge and resources, he should be able to build a rudimentary computer, or write a program. In any case, people have been building computers for well over 2000 years (google the "Antikythera mechanism" )

On the other hand, both the christian and muslim concepts of heaven made no sense either back then or now. They are both full of logical holes which were just as gaping back when Paul and MHMD were founding their respective religions as they are now. People have merely chosen to ignore those holes and accept that god and heaven exist through blind faith, because they don't have any better way of explaining things; or because of intellectual cowardice.

Agreed.
Christianity EtcRe: What Has Atheism Contributed To Humanity? by EvilBrain1(m): 11:10pm On Mar 21, 2012
maclatunji: Atheists go round in circles. In their attempts to deny God, they seek to create new concepts that cannot stand the test of holding the fabric of society together. There are more stars in the universe than there are grains of sand on earth. You seriously think all of that happened by chance without direction and guidance?

Seun, you know what? Let us try an experiment: leave Nairaland as it is and don't touch it, let us see it revert to the old Nairaland or change to a video sharing website by itself.

Shebi, you are believer in evolution. Let Nairaland change itself, why are you working so hard to change it? Can't it evolve by itself?

Of course, you know it is not possible. Yet, you want to claim that the earth's minerals combined to form micro-organisms. #Wonderful
Seriously, why do you people insist on saying ret@rded things like this? You're are only weakening your own position. The least you can do is try and understand the theory at a basic level before you try and debunk it. Evolution is really not that complicated. I don't know how many times I have to say this.
Christianity EtcRe: What Has Atheism Contributed To Humanity? by EvilBrain1(m): 10:46pm On Mar 21, 2012
Einstein, Hawking, Dawkins, the vast majority of physicists and scientists. Atheists have taken us away from goddidit and shed light on how the world really works.

Also, things are confounded by the fact that for most of history, the vast majority of atheists were living in the closet, afraid to reveal their true beliefs for fear of the religious establishment and the easily roused masses. Pretty much every atheist whose work depends on public opinion has had to pretend to be religious, just to survive. From men like Thomas Jefferson (try reading some of his writings) to pretty much all the decent american politicians (Europe is more accepting of atheism and there are no decent Nigerian politicians).

It's a sad fact of life that smart people so often have to pretend to be dumb.
Christianity EtcRe: One Of The Best Evidences That GOD Exist by EvilBrain1(m):
Morality is a product of natural selection. Humans are social animals, and each individual gains by living in a society where people treat each other fairly. You need a conscience in order to function properly in such a society. It has nothing to do with religion.

What people fail to realize is that for most of humanity's existence, we lived in small close-knit communities where everyone knew everyone else and most people were related by blood or marriage. Because each individual's resources and needs are hardly ever in balance, people needed to trade with each other in order to survive. For instance, if you had a lot of fruit, but no meat, you'd find someone who had spare meat and trade with them, and both sides gain. Or if you killed an elephant and had more meat than you and and your family could eat, you could give some to your hungry neighbour and he'd pay you back whenever you have a lean period. If you take from others and refuse to pay back later, people will remember and tell their friends about you, and you'd find it very difficult to get someone to loan you food the next time your crops fail.

In addition, communities had to cooperate in order to compete against other groups of people, a village where people don't work together is likely to get pillaged by the more united one next door. Humans therefore evolved a complex system of cooperation and an "us versus them" mentality that still exists today.

In a village were everyone knows everyone else, people treat each other fairly and remember injustices; the one @ssh0le without a conscience who cheats others regularly will be at a distinct disadvantage because no one would want to trade with him. This doesn't work as well in large cities where a lot of people are complete strangers (which explains why Lagosians are so mean to each other) but then, large cities are a very recent phenomenon from an evolutionary standpoint.

There is a very interesting area of mathematics that deals with this stuff called Game Theory. It shows us that the most successful societies are ones where most individuals employ a "t1t for tat with forgiveness strategy" ie, be nice to everyone at first, take revenge on those who cheat you the next time you meet them, but occasionally forgive past wrongs. In societies where most people do this each individual tends to be better off and those who always cheat are kept under control. That is the origin of conscience/altruism in humans and indeed animals in general.

This post is getting too long. Any questions?
Christianity EtcRe: Atheism by EvilBrain1(m): 7:23pm On Mar 21, 2012
noetic16: whaoo . . .so have you read the entire bible from Genesis to revelation before coming to that conclusion?
Plenty of atheists have read the entire bible. I'd read the whole thing cover to cover twice by the time I was 13. The stuff is not that long.

I find it funny that so many christians haven't bothered to read through their religion's main source material. Most of them are content with being spoon-fed tiny portions of it taken out of context by their pastors. You would think that the belief that their eternity depended of it would make each person to study the text individually and thoroughly. Yet I haven't met a single christian that is more familiar with the bible than I am.

Religion makes people to act very strangely.

It was actually this show (and the equally daft one about crystal skulls) that made me finally stop watching History Channel. It's sad to see how they've completely dumbed everything down to appeal to conspiracy theory nuts and the ret@rded american public. And not just them, Discovery too is now full of shows about people catching crabs or driving trailers. NatGeo has transformed into an animal planet wannabe, and there is hardly any knowledge to be gained by watching any of them. Only BBC knowledge is still representing. It wasn't always like this.

There is so little intellectually stimulating stuff on TV nowadays. That's why I only watch football and al Jazeera.

If you have local maps, then they work fine.

I recommend you get one of the more recent Nokia phones. Their built-in maps app is fantastic. It covers the whole of Nigeria and has thousands of points of interest including petrol stations, hospitals, schools, restaurants and even churches/mosques. It's better than Google maps and regularly updated too.

Edit: It also has voice guided navigation.

IslamRe: 10 Years After Burial, Imam Sheez Adeyemi's Body Remains Fresh by EvilBrain1(m): 2:30pm On Feb 26, 2012
If the olodo journalists that printed this story had bothered to do a 2 second Google search, they would have discovered that incorruptible corpses are pretty common occurrences. It mostly has to do with the conditions in which the body was buried, the type of soil and what chemicals happened to be in/around the corpse at the time of death.

Napoleon bonaparte, who was most definitely not a saint was found to have not decayed decades after he died. At the time, everyone thought it was a sign if the man's greatness. Of course, we now know that it was the arsenic he was poisoned with that stopped his body from rotting.

Religious people have a history of turning off their brains at the slightest suggestion of a miracle, refusing to consider even the most obvious logical explanation. Christians tend to claim this particular type of miracle more than others, but muslims, hindus and others have made the same silly assumption.

Stop deceiving yourselves, there is nothing unusual here. The only thing amazing about his story is the level of ignorance so many of you are showing. Religion really does make people $tup1d.

Christianity EtcRe: Richard Dawkins Has 0.01 In The Existence Of God by EvilBrain1(m): 3:34am On Feb 26, 2012
This thread is dumb. Only people who don't understand the scientific method would be surprised by what Dawkins said. As a scientist, you can never really rule anything out. It is impossible to prove a negative. What scientists do is reach conclusions based on the best available empirical evidence. And the best available evidence suggests strongly that there us no god.

If Dawkins refuses to acknowledge the possibility of the existence of god(s), however remote, he would be displaying the very same ret@rded thinking as you religious people. A real scientist is willing to admit he is wrong when faced with verifiable proof. In the case of god(s), no such proof exists.

Kudos to the Lagos state government for standing up to these touts. They should give them a deadline and impound any trucks left there after it passes.

I wonder how long it'll take the useless federal government to do something about the trailers parking along Lagos-Ibadan expressway. Just 3 days ago, a bus coming from the north at night ran into one of them near shagamu, killing up to 10 people. Not a single month passes without a car or bus running into these dangerously parked trucks on unlit roads and killing people.

Maybe we should start praying that a minister, or senator, or maybe one of GEJ's relatives should be on the next bus that crashes. That may be the only way we'll see some change.
PoliticsRe: Why This Fuel Scarcity? by EvilBrain1(m): 5:22pm On Feb 23, 2012
There is scarcity because both the importers and the marketers are corrupt, and the president is incompetent. The January protests have forced them to lay low with all the blatant stealing that was happening before so there is less incentive to import.

If the government wasn't so useless, I would have supported the total removal of subsidy. But since any savings are just going to be wasted/stolen anyway, I'd rather we just enjoy as much cheap fuel as we can get. The black market stuff isn't likely to be much more expensive than the subsidized price anyway, so we're not losing much.

O for a government that actually works.

1. Call some of their leaders aside and try and reason with them.

2. Write them a strongly worded letter.

3. Involve your neighbourhood association.

4. Report them to the Lagos State Environment Protection Agency.

5. If all else fails, gather evidence and sue the basterds. At the very least, you'll attract enough attention to force the authorities to take action.
