Those guys don't have any right to trade on the roadside so they don't deserve any compensation. I understand that times are hard, but people can't be allowed to make a living by inconveniencing everybody else. The pavement is meant for walking, not for trading. |
The chairman of Virgin Atlantic said:Welcome to Nigeria, Richard. |
tpia@:You're frigid? You poor darling, that explains so much. Have considered seeing a doctor? You'll probably need to run some tests to find out exactly what's wrong, but many causes of frigidity are perfectly treatable. Don't think you can't be helped. You are really missing out on a lot. |
People are so eager to condemn the northerners forgetting that to them, the authorities are just as bad or worse than BH. Most people don't realize that the army and police killed more innocent people in just the Maiduguri crisis alone than Boko Haram has in its entire history. People forget that BH has informants within the government and will not hesitate to kill anybody who informs on them. What incentive does the average northerner have to report one group of mass murderers to another group of mass murderers? Why should he risk his and his children's lives to help a government that has done nothing for him and can't even protect him? Is the SSS going pay to relocate his family somewhere where BH can't find them? Why should he believe their promises when they have no credibility. The government authorities expect people risk everything to help them when they themselves are sitting safely in Abuja, surrounded by policemen, enjoying their stolen wealth. |
Freksy: Mr "sense maker", I have seen the sense you are making. Thump up! Please make more sense here:You still don't get it. Gorillas are not the ancestors of humans. They are more like our cousins and have been evolving for just as long as we have. They merely resemble our common ancestor more than we do given the fact they are adapted to a very similar environment to where the ancestors lived. The same applies to all the other examples I gave. Just because reptiles evolved from amphibian-like creatures doesn't mean all frogs are eventually going to turn into lizards. Evolution doesn't follow any predetermined path. The only thing that is certain is that traits that give a survival advantage are always going to become more prevalent in the population. Over time the accumulated changes will eventually result in creatures that look very different form their ancestors. It is a very simple simple concept. It's not that hard to understand. |

oiseworld: you atheist are very self centered, it has to be the way you want it. You've had soo much sex that youre now good at it. While someome somewhere is also having very good sex with your future wife and she's now also very good at it. What do you care? She Probably had had one or two abortions, not your problem.Obviously I'm not going to marry a girl just because she got pregnant. I'm not going to give chicks incentive to start poking holes in my condoms. In any case, I know plenty of couples who got married because of pregnancy and every single one of them is either miserable or divorced. The worst possible environment to raise a child is a home where both parents are full of resentment and there is no peace. Call me self-centered if you want, but I've been sexually active for over 12 years now and I've never gotten a single girl pregnant, not to talk of demanding an abortion and I've never gotten or given anyone an STD (hooray for condoms!!!). I've never cheated and I do my best to treat women with respect which is more than I can say for many religious people I know. And since I don't consider women to be property, I don't think my future wife's value will be in any way diminished just because she slept with her ex-boyfriend before she met me. There are more important things in life than who your woman did or didn't fvuck years ago. |
Freksy: And you've completely misunderstood my question. I know you were swerved off the point by the highlighted portions and comments made by Area boy. As usual he chosed a comfort zone and you toed his path. This is actually a nonsense question. I'll explain why later on. But first, let me just point out that there are plenty of examples of intermediate species, both living and in the fossil record. And just as the vast majority of species that have ever existed are now extinct, the majority of intermediate species are also extinct. There are a few nice ones that are still alive though. My favourite example is sea sponges which are intermediate between protozoans and animals; as well as between unicellular and multicellular organisms. This is probably the biggest evolutionary milestone of all time, far more significant than the difference between humans and chimpanzees. We also have platypi which have features of both mammals and reptiles. I could probably come up with 5 or 6 more off the top of my head. And of course, if we were to include extinct species then there are hundreds of good examples. Which brings me to why your question is nonsense. Let me ask you, what is an intermediate species? And if I was to point you towards a living, newly discovered half man, half chimp; whats to stop you from demanding for a three-quarters man, one-quarter chimp? No matter how complete the fossil record is, there will always be "missing" intermediate forms. The only way to avoid this would be to dig up every single living thing that has ever existed including all your dead grandparents which is obviously impossible. In any case, chimpanzees/bonobos are technically intermediate between humans and gorillas given that they share many characteristics with both. Lizards are intermediate between humans and frogs. Amoebas are intermediate between humans and archeobacteria. |
mkmyers45: Is it also logical to assume that God is likely to exist but has not been observed yet....?No. Just like unicorns, fairies and ninja turtles, if god hasn't been observed then, by default, he doesn't exist. Besides, theists aren't claiming that he lives in a galaxy far, far away. They are claiming that he's all around us and that he heals people and give answers requests and that he tells TB Joshua stuff all the time. If any of this were true, it would be easily verifiable. How come nobody has been able to verify any of it? |
Freksy: Evolutionary theory holds that as animals progressed up the evolutionary scale, they became more capable of surviving. Why, then, is the "inferior" ape family still in existence, but not a single one of the presumed intermediate forms, which were supposed to be more advanced in evolution? You've completely misunderstood the theory of evolution. Apes are not inferior to humans. They are extremely well adapted to their natural environment: dense jungle. They can move quickly from tree to tree, are very fast on the ground over short distances, and can eat coarse, uncooked food. Humans on the other hand, are adapted to living on flat plains and most wouldn't last a week in the bush were chimanzees thrive. Don't forget that chimps have been evolving for just as long as people. In evolution, no species is better or more advanced by any other. Evolution has no aim or intention to make living things more advanced. If evolution leads to more complexity, it's only because that complexity makes the individual organisms more likely to survive. Evolution could just as easily do the opposite if there was a survival benefit (that is probably where viruses came from). You need to read more about evolution from real scientists if you want to really understand it. You can't learn evolution from creationists because they either don't get it, or they deliberately twist the theory tofavour their own weak arguments. |
oiseworld: you veryyyyyy wrong. We part amicably and move on with our lives. if she gets pregnant and you just have to abort, what happens? You can't be perfect in life and can't control everything.I think I mentioned condoms and safe sex in my post. Plus, I wouldn't ask a girl to have an abortion. Facing up to your responsibility is part of being a man. If she decides to have one herself it's a different story, but I'll always be willing to handle my business and take care of my child. What if you're new wife has had somuch sex with her bad boyfriend only to complain that your sex is bad? You know exactly what would happen when they meet again. If I can't trust a girl to remain faithful, then there's no way I'm going to marry her. Besides, thanks to all the premarital sex, I'm now pretty good in bed. My future wife will have no reason to complain. Spiritually, sex draws you backward. What should have been working in your success would now be drawing you backward.Do you have any evidence to back this up? It's very easy to make this kind of claim but I think you'll find that reality disagrees with you. Lastly, God does not approve sex before marriage.I think I mentioned that I'm an atheist. That statement means nothing to me. |
You don't need god to do anything. There are plenty of married atheists, muslims, buddhists, mormons, pagans, wiccans and devil worshippers who are able to remain faithful to their spouses without any divine assistance. OP seems to be suffering from the "my religion is right and everyone who doesn't follow it must be a sinner" delusion. Having said that, as an atheist, I don't believe that "fornication" aka sex before marriage is wrong as long as you do it responsibly. If you practice safe sex (condoms every single time), treat your partners with respect, don't screw around on them, don't lie to them just to get them into bed, and you handle your business if your girlfriend gets pregnant, then you're okay from a moral point of view. On the other hand, if you're telling a girl that she's the only one for you and that you're going to marry her while simultaneously banging someone else on the side then you're as bad as any adulterer. The idea that two mature, consenting adults can't have sex just because they don't have a local government kpali sounds ridiculous to me. So does the notion that I need a pastor or imam (or the invisible, undetectable being they claim to represent) to validate the a relationship based on love and respect between me and my babe. |
This contract is massively inflated. Lagos and Ibadan are about 136km apart so $1.5billion dollars works out to over $11 million per kilometre which is crazy!!! The contract Obasanjo signed in 2006 with this same company amounted to $3.04million per kilometre for a dual track, standard guage railway. In 2009, Yar'Adua's administration negotiated a deal with the same company to build a line between Abuja and Kaduna for $4.08 million per kilometre with once again, the same company. In fact the most expensive contract I can find on the internet is $5 million per kilometre for a railway built by Libya in 2008. Other than corruption, there is no rational explanation for why GEJ should be paying over 3 times as much in dollars in for exactly the same thing Obasanjo asked them to do. And I don't understand how GEJ's handlers could think they could get away with this obvious fraud. Do they think that none of us ordinary Nigerians know how to divide? Do they think we didn't go to secondary school? |
Abyjah: @Evil Brain. Nicely written, but I must say that you're wrong. Every other thing is illusory, but God is the only reality. Please explain what you mean by that, preferably in simple english. No offence, but it sounds just like the meaningless pseudo-intellectual grammatics that pastors use to turn people's heads. But you and I are intelligent, educated people so we're not going to resort to that cheap tactic just to win an argument are we? |
Yes, God is imaginary. He doesn't exist outside the minds of those who believe in him. There is no objective way of demonstrating his existence. Neither is there any way to demonstrating his effects on the world around us. We are now able to detect subatomic particles and measure the temperature, mass and composition of stars millions of lightyears away. Yet, no nobody can figure out a way to detect a god who is supposedly all around us and doing things everyday? Practically all the things previously attributed to God have now been shown to have other causes. We have simple, and elegant explanations for how complex life develops from simpler forms, where earthquakes and lightning come from, and why the sun rises and sets. We also have a working (though still incomplete) theory for the origin of the universe. The bible and the koran are full of stories of magical things God and his followers did yet all these miracles seem to have conveniently disappeared just as we gained the ability to verify them. The only miracles we see these days are performed by fraudulent TV pastors and YouTube fraudsters. And the (developed) world now operates under the assuption that there is no god. It's only in bush places like Nigeria that people promote prayer as a means to fight terrorism, corruption or to solve economic problems. You don't see europeans praying against road accidents or the chinese praying for electricity. They install street lights, enforce seatbelt use, speed limits and ensure roadworthiness of all vehicles. They build more powerplants. Of course, many of these people may say that they belive in God, but most of them don't act like it. And that is why their problems get solved while ours fester and stagnate. |
If you're referring to UFOs, then no. There is no evidence that we've ever been visited by extraterrestrials. Those who believe that we have are just deceiving themselves. On the other hand, if you're asking if life exists on other planets, then yes, I do believe it does. There are an unimaginably large number of stars in the universe. If you add to that the evidence from the Kepler telescope that extrasolar planets are extremely common, It seems really unlikely that earth is the only place where life has taken root. However, given the huge distances involved, its very unlikely that we'll ever encounter another intelligent species barring a major breakthrough in physics. |
Mallamabdul: @Evilbrain. Your brain is indeed evil and lacking in substance. You said "...its an established fact that well over a trillion naira was stolen..." who established the fact? You? Pls be factual. Enough of these gossips. The best available figures come from the House of Reps report which estimates that 6.8 billlion dollars was stolen over 3 years. 6.8 billion dollars at present rates is 1.108 trilllion Naira. In any case, the amount doesn't really matter. The president himself admitted that there was massive fraud in an area under her direct supervision. She totally failed to prevent this fraud or raise an alarm either because she was involved or she was incompetent. Then after the Occupy Nigeria cassarra busted on her head, she hurriedly started inaugurating panels, trying to portray herself as fighting corruption. I wonder why she didn't do all that while the stealing was going on. Any attempt to to defend this woman would only make you look worse. Luckily for GEJ, a president can push blame on others and use them as a scapegoat for his own sins. If he had any sense at all, he'd have sacked her, disavowed her,and blamed her for everything. Of course, nobody has ever accused GEJ of having sense. |
That GEJ still hasn't sacked this woman is all the proof we need that he doesn't have Nigeria's interests at heart. It is an established fact that well over a trillion Naira was stolen from areas directly under her supervision. Even if we're to believe that she somehow wasn't aware of the multiple, massive, blatant and crude frauds happening under her nose, all that means is that she is seriously incompetent and should be sacked. There is no sensible reason for this woman to keep her job. That she is still there only makes sense if you assume that GEJ has no problem with what has been happening in the oil sector. To me that seems far more likely than the "he won't sack her because he's sleeping with her" theory. After all, all that election campaign money must have come from somewhere. |
The Americans put it best: If you fµck for dough, then you's a ho! |
If God exists, then proving it should be extremely easy. All you'd have to do is show that prayer works. For instance, you could do a double blind study of seriously ill patients in hospital. You divide them into 2 matching groups and organize prayers for half of them. After a year or so you can count how many in each group are still alive, how many have gotten better, and how many have gotten worse. If God exists and answers prayers, then there should be a clear difference between the two. Sadly, all the properly done medical studies on prayer have shown that it doesn't improve patient survival in any significant way. Prayer only appears to work in studies that have been rigged or have serious flaws that make the results useless. |
I wish this guy all the best in his endeavours. Blowing up the National Assembly is a laudable goal deserving of our support and prayers. Though I'm curious about how he plans to acquire fissionable materials for his bomb. Is he planning to centifuge Uranium like the Iranians are doing? That would take a really long time and would probably be too expensive. I advice him to try the David Hahn method and build a breeder reactor using Americum-241 from second hand smoke detectors. You can also get most of the other elements required from common household objects (though the tritium might be difficult to get). If he can gather enough Americum and Thorium, he could have sufficient fissile material to take out the three arms zone in a few short years. Mr. Man of Native God should feel free to PM me if he needs any help. |
This is a failure of government. The Anambra woman didn't buy the baby for rituals or any other nefarious purpose. It is perfectly natural to want to adopt after trying for a baby for 15years. The fact is that no sane person would do what this woman did if legal adoption was a viable option. The problem is that outside Lagos, the procedure is either non-existent or so fraught with bureaucracy and corruption that it is easier to just go out and buy a baby. As for the 26year old bricklayer with 5 kids, he's a victim of poverty, ignorance and the lack of proper family planning services. I'm not trying to justify what he did, selling your baby is a horrible crime. But it's less horrible if he thought the child would get a better life with its new family. There's a really good chance that poverty will still kill the the child if it stays with its birth family. You guys should try and look at cases like this from all angles instead of just condemning them. Good people can do terrible things for all sorts of misguided reasons. |
Dreams don't mean jackshìt. Stop dulling yourself. |
Avicenna: Let me tell you a comment on Dana plane crash. ' The politicians are doing their rituals. They are using innocent blood to 'wet' the ground.' There was no blame on the airline that operated the faulty plane. 153 people confirmed dead and the response was superstition and more superstitions. It's the same as last year when people were saying they voted for Goodluck because "his name has power". The fact is that we have a serious, long standing problem with education in this country. People simply don't know how to reason or apply logic. So instead they resort to superstition and magical thinking. And religious leaders are feeding fat on people's ignorance. Personally, I don't bother myself trying "save" these people. If someone wants to be rètarded, then that is his right as a human being. I'm not going to risk getting beaten up by fanatics for a stranger who hasn't even asked for my help. The most I do is try and sow some doubt by pointing out the flaws in their logic, teaching physics and evolution and in the case of christians, confusing them with their own bible. |
I think we can safely skip the majority of OP's overlong post and go straight to item 10. flourishG: 10. To Be Consistent.Long story short, OP lives on tithing income. Therefore, whenever you put money in the offering tray, or write a check to a church, the money goes straight into OP and people like him's pocket. No wonder he thinks paying tithe is such a great idea. |
It's super cheap smartphones like these that are going to be Nokia's salvation. And make no mistake, these are smartphones. They are full touch, run apps (even if it's just java), and can access the internet. If these aren't smartphones then neither was the original iphone. If Nokia can deliver on their promise of porting Qt to s40, then they'll inherit most of the Qt symbian and meego apps and Nokia will have a very compelling smartphone platform at a price nobody can match. These phones are going to sell like crazy. |
It's not really complete. The rail lines haven't been laid, the railings, electrical work, plumbing, etc aren't done. I passed by there a few days ago and was able to get a close look. The basic structure is finished, but it is far from ready for use. That's not to take anything away from the LSG though. Good job. |
You guys should keep wasting your time kneeling down and flapping your lips. After all we can all see how well that has worked in the past few decades. Maybe we should all ask Santa Claus to bring us some less corrupt leaders while we're at it. There is nothing the criminals ruling us will like more than for Nigerians to keep wastimg our time with this useless prayer cräp instead of hitting the streets, courts and trenches to force the necessary change. Two hands working are better than a thousand clasped in prayer. |
The soul is one of those nebulous concepts that nobody is able to define, describe or detect. The reality is that it doesn't really exist. If I were to ignore that fact though, I'd probably say that clones did have souls. Identical twins are clones, and I doubt if anyone will want to argue that they're not real people. Especially since many religious people think that 4 celled embryos with no brain or nervous system have souls. |
This is not enough. The government should pay the doctors the full amount that was agreed and not a penny less. They shouldn't think that just because they have backed down a little that the doctors will forget the issue that started the whole problem. If the governmnt tries to remove even 1 kobo from a doctor's hard earned salary, they will face the fight of their lives. They may be able to get away with this type of nonsense with the poor masses who don't know their rights, but doctors are cut from a different cloth. |
www.thenationonlineng.net/2011/index.php/news-update/48433-lagos-suspends-sack-of-788-doctors.html The Lagos State Government has suspended the sack of the 788 doctors recently relieved of their duties from the government employment. |
