CultureRe: Igbo People Being 'light', Is It Exaggerated? by ezeagu(op): 6:45pm On Sep 16, 2011
MsDarkSkin:
light skinned africans are the result of mixing. it doesn't make them any less african but they are.

my bf's mother is light skinned and his father dark in complexion. On his mother's side they are light due to a certain "ancestor" who himself was light skinned in complexion due to having African AND Arab blood.

you'll find light skinned africans in areas that historically speaking was involved in the slave trade or had
dealings with arabs hence difference in hair texture, religion and language. Igbos are no exception
but from my understanding MAJORITY of the Igbos are dark skinned.
Igbo people did not have dealings with Arabs, if they did, a portion would probably be Muslim like the rest of West Africa that became Islamic. Also, they would be recorded by Arabs and probably given a name like they gave Fulani. The light skin among some Igbo people is being attributed to UV rays and the shade from the Equatorial forest, although I don't know how true that is. There have been tests on all types of Igbo people and they all came out as fully sub-Saharan, whereas the Fulani come out 5% or above Asian.

There's no way Yoruba and Hausa compete in Nigeria. Yoruba is spoken strictly in south western Nigeria by one ethnic group, where as Hausa is spoken among different ethnic groups all over the north and north central.
CultureRe: The Origin Of The Igbo by ezeagu(m): 6:37pm On Sep 16, 2011
The group I've seen that look most alike with the Igbo is Tikar. I think they are all related because of the 'Bantu' migration from the same region.

If you are speaking without complexes and pre-set mindset, you would at least show me where I said that Anambra citizens are superior Igbos. I even attack anyone here who try to do that.
My reply was to South East, who wanted to insinuate that Abia has things Anambra lacks, eg, land, mineral etc.
I'm tired of carrying Igbo cross alone. If other Igbos don't want unity, so be it. Though I think it is re-tarded not to want unity. Anambra gains NOTHING SPECIAL from such unity.  cool
Can you imagine Ojukwu talking about losing nothing special in reference to the other southeastern states? LOL. The fact that you could say such a thing means you've always been Anambra > Igbo, which is fine because all the states are on their own anyway.

Time for the usual "vote for my tribes superiority" thread.

We clearly know the answer is Hausa.

@ezeagu,

You were talking some sense and giving some flesh to your position here. .

You see why some of my Nnewi brothers laugh at me when I talk about Igbo being one. Where did that come from?
I was responding to South-East who is always into statistics about land and space.

After interacting with some of you guys, believe me , I wonder how Ojukwu was able to hold Biafra together for almost 3 years. You always feel funny.

Is Abia state richer than Anambra state? Even potentially? If you believe that, you are deceiving yourself. cool
Your "Omambara has no ties to the Atlantic ocean whatsoever" remark is the most reta-rded post you ever made on Nairaland. Do you have that access?  undecided  mscheeew.  undecided

Nna I'm really disappointed in you frankly,
What is in Anambra state that isn't in Abia, in fact, what has Anambra achieved that should warrant the comparison or insult of Abia state? How can there be one-Igbo when someone is clearly an Anambra before Igbo, otherwise what is the comparison over states about? If we're going to talk about potential of the states, then what is the potential of Anambra surviving without getting to the ocean through other states?

In fact Anambra state is FAR richer in terms of human, natural and land/agricultural resources. I won't debate that because it is self evident. Again, such debate is for folks with time on their hands.
Exactly why Igbo people are not a "inseparable-nation", the same statements above is the reason why there are so many groups disassociating themselves with the Igbo label lest they become census boosters for people with superiority complexes. You shouldn't forget that Omambara has no ties to the Atlantic ocean whatsoever.

@Ezeagu, how can we ever have an Igbo-only country as you espouse when you support this? Is this how we shall live in that country?
Bros I'm speechless at your support for this!  shocked
You have to see it like this: What are a couple of Anambra traders in Aba doing for development in the south east? Very little, now measure the effects of most of the Anambra, Abia, Imo, Enugu, Ebonyi, etc. middle class indigenes rushing back into these states from Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Kaduna, Jos, Benin, etc. Can you imagine the amount of pressure this could cause for development? Not to even talk of the effects on the Igbo kids who know little to nothing about their culture and language.

I wonder what Nigeria would look like if other state Governments decides to copy what Mr Abia has done?
Lagos decongested, no more victims for northern vigilantes, states gaining middle class, forced development (including international airports), regions with more balanced populations, easier separation of Nigeria. Pretty great.

Abagworo:
What a question. The history of the Benin empire is no news to any Nigerian adult. If the Benin were able to tame the fore fathers of the Ijaw and other Southern ethnic groups including the big two(Igbo and Yoruba) why can't they do the same again.Igbos say LOnye akpala Odum di n'ura aka nu odudu maka o keta o bula ebelebe" simply meaning "do not dare touch a sleeping lion on the tail cause u can't handle the outcome"
This isn't 1692. There is no Benin military.

Yes, one in a million who understands that such initiative would be crucial toward facilitating a less dramatic division/disintegration.
Not even only that, can you imagine the thousands of middle class families rushing back to Abia? That would force development.

The fact that we can tell the persons accent is fake usually means the persons accent sound unattractive and unnatural. If you're not an American, don't force it. It's embarrassing.

This is fake, unless the mother has two hips and can stretch her hand above what is humanly possible. She would also have to had located her phone, texted in Chinese, and then had enough time to jump over her baby, all the while the building around her is collapsing on top of her. What she is holding is nothing younger than a four year old and there are no reliable news stories on the internet carrying this story.

Anyway, the lu/nu could mean anything, it could even be part of a larger word. My guess was just lụ because of the context, the way the word is pronounced, and the fact that I can't think of any other lụ word that changes the l/n except maybe for marry.
CultureRe: Nairaland Official Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba Dictionary by ezeagu(m): 3:30am On Sep 12, 2011
But that would mean that the communities that borrowed the word had no idea what the word Kamalu means, unless it's not made up of different words. The lu and nu in Kamalu/Kamanu or Kalu/Kanu are both used by the southern communities.

CultureRe: Nairaland Official Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba Dictionary by ezeagu(m): 12:33pm On Sep 11, 2011
Even if the lu/nu is not 'fight', there will still be a problem explaining why the southern and eastern dialects are using nu instead of lu. In some dialects, the l and n are not strict for every word used, for example some may use na and la for 'in', depending on which is the most convenient in the moment.
