Politics10 Killed In Bauchi Suicide Attack by Ezenwammadu(op): 3:41pm On Jan 30, 2016
At least people were killed when a suicide bomber blew himself up on Friday at a busy market in a town in Bauchi where the Boko Haram group is waging an insurgency, residents and a Red Cross official told Reuters.

Boko Haram has been waging an almost seven-year campaign in Nigeria’s remote north to build an Islamic state. Thousands have been killed and more than two million people displaced by the campaign.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but the attack bore the hallmarks of Boko Haram, which has been using suicide bombers since the army, helped by neighbours Chad and Cameroon, expelled the group from territory it had captured previously

PoliticsNNPC Shuts Down, Kaduna, Port Harcourt Refineries Over Pipeline Vandalism by Ezenwammadu(op): 4:10pm On Jan 20, 2016
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Wednesday, said it had shut two refineries in the southern city of Port Harcourt and Kaduna in the north because sabotage to crude pipelines. The plants were shut on Sunday because of “breaches” to the Bonny-Okrika supply line to Port Harcourt and the Escravos-Warri pipeline to Kaduna, the company said in an emailed statement.

Nigeria’s minister of power Babatunde Fashola said on Tuesday the country was losing some $2.3 million (2.1 million euros) a day to attacks on gas facilities and lost electricity production. The military said separately it would no longer tolerate the sabotage and blamed it on “criminal elements who are bent on destroying the nation’s strategic assets”.

Supporters of former Niger Delta militant Government Ekpemupolo, also known as “Tompolo”, are believed to have been behind a series of strikes on pipelines in Delta state at the weekend. A court in Lagos last Thursday ordered his arrest on theft and money laundering charges totalling more than $175 million (161 million euros). Despite being Africa’s number one oil producer, Nigeria has relied on imports of petroleum products because of a lack of domestic refining capacity. Fuel shortages are commonplace.

But as part of moves to overhaul the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), the government has been working to improve capacity at the country’s under-performing state-owned refineries. The four facilities in Port Harcourt, the Delta town of Warri and Kaduna have a combined capacity to process 445,000 barrels of crude per day. Throughout last year they were operating at just a fraction of that.

The NNPC said in the statement that before the closure, the Port Harcourt refinery was processing more than 4.1 million litres of petrol per day while Kaduna was producing about 1.3 million litres. Warri was “still on stream” and producing just over 1.4 million litres of petrol daily, it added. “In response to the unexpected setback, we have activated comprehensive remedial measures to sustain the prevailing stability in the supply and distribution of petroleum products across the country,” the company said.

It is categorically clear that our politicians have
succeeded to hoodwink many of us, to have more interest
and love in a political party one belong, instead of the
quality and capacity of the candidate contesting. But if i
may ask, should we cast our votes because of the
goodness of a particular political party or should we vote
by the quality and capacity of the contestants whom we
have confidence in, to move our beloved nation, state and
local government forward? Which one would save this
nation ndi beanyi?

It's clear that we the SS and SE have been brainwashed
and betrayed by our leaders for their selfish reasons. We
were fed wt all sorts of falsehood and propaganda-that
APC will islamise the country and that anyone in the party
is evil. We sheepshly supported them and closed our
doors to other parties - including our APGA, not minding
how they have been dealing with us since 1999 (Enugu-
Onitsha and Enugu-PH roads are now bush paths, Niger
bridge about collapsing).

Now, we are being denied several privileges as a result of
putting all our eggs in one basket. It is regrettable that the
same proponents of those propaganda, who still benefited
selfishly in the last administration, have started jumping
into the APC which they demonised, in order to continue
enjoying our common wealth while me and you are still
killing ourselves, saying that APC can never win in SS or
SE. My people, wise up!

PoliticsWe’ve Won War Against Boko Haram – Army by Ezenwammadu(op): 8:49pm On Jan 10, 2016
THE Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, has said that the war against Boko Haram in the North-East has been won and urged his men to sustain the victory.

Buratai promised that the Nigerian Army would remain vigilant and ready to contend with new strategies that might be adopted by the terrorist group.

The army chief made this remark on Saturday while laying the foundation stone for the new Brigade headquarters complex at the 2 Brigade in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Describing the current military operations in the North-East as critical, Buratai commended the soldiers for their commitment towards the onslaught against terrorists.

He said, “The North-East operation is critical at this stage. The terrorists have been defeated. These criminals may rear their ugly heads through other means. We will continue to maintain vigilance.

Buratai explained that the Federal Government would not relent in giving special attention to the welfare of military personnel.

Expressing satisfaction in the commitment to duty the 2 Brigade personnel, he pointed out that the Nigerian army had always been celebrated globally for its high level of professionalism and discipline.

The army chief urged soldiers to continue to maintain the high level of discipline they were known for, even as he commended the brigade for its effort in fighting oil theft in the Niger Delta region.

Promising that government will give attention to the medical needs of military personnel, Buratai added that the Nigerian Army would not fail to tackle the problem of accommodation in all the barracks across the country.

Apart from inspecting an ongoing five-bedroom block project embarked upon by his office, Buratai also spoke with wives of soldiers in the barracks and pledged Federal Government’s commitment towards improving their welfare
