Adebayo Ogunlesi: the Ijebu Man Who Bought Four UK Airports
In 2016, two days after Professor Wole Soyinka reportedly tore his American green card, because his preferred candidate, Hilary Clinton lost to Donald Trump in the last United State of America election, a Nigerian, Adebayo Ogunlesi was named member of the 16-man economic advisory team of Trump.

Ogunlesi, 63, the only African in the team, is the chairman of Global Infrastructure Partners, a private equity firm and one of Fortune 500 companies.

He hails from Makun, Sagamu in Ogun State, and was born in 1953, by Theophilus Ogunlesi, Nigeria’s first professor of medicine.

He attended Kings College, Lagos, for his secondary education and proceeded to Oxford University for his B.A. in Philosophy, Politics and Economics and graduated with first class honours.

Also, he graduated from Harvard Law School in 1979 and later got an MBA from Harvard Business School. He later taught at Harvard Law School and the Yale School of Organisation and Management.

Ogunlesi had a banking career with Credit Suisse First Boston from 1983 and rose to become its executive vice chairman. Before then, between 1980-81, he served as a law clerk to Associate Justice Thurgood Marshall of the United States Supreme Court.
He is married to an optometrist, Dr. Amelia Quist-Ogunlesi

NDLEA arrests drug baron behind N3billion Tramadol linked to Abba Kyari's team

Billionaire drug baron behind the N3billion Tramadol deal involving the embattled suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari-led Intelligence Response Team, IRT, Chief Afam Mallinson Emmanuel Ukatu has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.

After months of surveillance and evading arrest, Ukatu who is Chairman of Mallinson Group of Companies was eventually nabbed onboard a flight to Abuja at the MM2 terminal of the Lagos airport, Ikeja on Wednesday 13th April.

Investigations reveal that he has been a major importer of large consignments of different brands and high dosages of Tramadol Hydrochloride, ranging from 120mg, 200mg, 225mg and 250mg, all of which are illicit. Ukatu owns pharmaceutical and plastic manufacturing companies, which he used as a cover to import illicit drugs into Nigeria. This is in addition to operating 103 bank accounts, most of which are used to launder money.

Ukatu came under watch last year after five cartons of Tramadol 225mg were seized from his staff on 4th May 2021 when he sent them to sell to undercover police officers (unknown to Ukatu) from the then Kyari-led IRT of the Nigeria Police, Ikeja Lagos. The price of a carton of Tramadol was negotiated at N17million each as against the then black market value that ranged between N18million and N20million a carton in Lagos.

After the arrest of Ukatu's staff: Pius Enidom and Sunday Ibekwete, Kyaris men were then led by the suspects to Mallinson's warehouse at Ojota in Lagos where 197 additional Cartons of Tramadol 225mg were seized by the IRT Team. The monetary value of the 202 cartons of Tramadol seized from Mallinson in one day was over N3billion.

Three weeks after the seizure, the Kyaris IRT team transferred only 12 Cartons of the Tramadol with one truck and a suspect to the Lagos Command of the NDLEA, leaving 190 cartons unaccounted for. After over eight months of following the lead, anti-narcotic officers of the Agency eventually arrested Ukatu at the Lagos airport on 13th April 2022. Kyari and four top members of his team are already facing trial for a different but similar offence at a Federal High Court in Abuja.

The Federal Government says the National Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos, which is under renovation, will be known as Lagos Creative and Entertainment Center, upon completion.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed,disclosed this on Tuesday in Madrid, Spain while signing an agreement on Nigeria’s hosting of first Global Conference on Cultural Tourism and Creative Industry.




The News Agency of Nigeria reports the bilateral agreement was signed between Nigeria and United Nation World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) at the organisation’s headquarters.



Mohammed disclosed that the global conference ,which would hold from Nov. 14 to Nov. 17,would be the first event to be staged at the newly refursbished edifice.

“Nigeria will be hosting the event at the National Theatre in Lagos, which is currently being renovated at a cost of 100 million Dollar under a partnership between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Bankers’ Committee/Central Bank of Nigeria.

“It is the first of such renovation of the iconic edifice in over four decades.

“In addition to the renovation, new hubs are being constructed, within the premises of the National theatre, for fashion, Information, technology, film and music.



“With that, the National Theatre is now known as the Lagos Creative and Entertainment Centre.

“In addition, the Lagos surface rail system ,to serve the National Theatre ,will be commissioned ahead of the Global Conference,’’he said

Mohammed said the signing of the bilateral agreement signified Nigeria’s commitment to host the event.

The minister added that in an effort to ensure that the complex is ready for the hosting in November, he recently undertook an inspection tour of ongoing work there with stakeholders.

The stakeholders on the inspection tour, according to the minister, were Lagos Governor, Babajide Sanwoolu; the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele and the Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Sunday Dare.

According to the minister, there was every indication that the venue will be ready early enough to host the global conference.

The Nigeria Ambassador to Spain, Mr Ademola Seriki, who said he is a member of Board of Directors of the company handling the reconstruction project, said the edifice would be completed before the global event.

Seriki, who accompanied the minister to the bilateral agreement signing ceremony, thanked the UNWTO for giving Nigeria the right to host the maiden global conference.

He said the conference would bring a huge reputation to the country and assert Nigeria’s lead in music, theatre and other areas of entertainment in Africa.

NAN reports that Mr Folorunsho Coker, ,Director General, Nigeria Tourism Development Corporation, was on the entourage of the minister.

The National Theatre, an iconic centre for performing arts, was established to preserve, present and promote arts and culture in Nigeria.

The construction of the monument was completed in 1976 in preparation for the Festival of Arts and Culture hosted in 1977. (NAN)

CAUTIONS FOR CHRISTIAN BUSINESS OWNERS

Business ownership can become detrimental to one's spiritual life if it becomes an idol or if the business owner is serving Mammon rather than God (Luke 12:16-21; Luke 16:13). Some business owners become so immersed in work that they neglect family, friends, their health, and the Lord. When anything takes our total focus for an extended period of time, it can shift our lives out of balance (1Timothy 6:10). So Christian business owners must work to keep priorities straight and remember that a business with God's blessing will fare better than one without it (Proverbs 10:22; 1Corinthians 14:40). The Lord will not tolerate our idols, so a business owner owner must work to keep success from becoming more important than anything else (Exodus 20:4).

When a business owner's motive is selfish or sin-based, the business will not enjoy God's blessing and may become a hindrance to God's plan for the owner's life (Jeremiah 18:9-10)
