Okay thanks. That does leaves the farmers at the mercy of the off takers.

I've watched several documentaries on storage methods used by the indians, where they build cold rooms using charcoal. It increases the shelf life by another week.

I'll give it a trial, even if it isn't this season.
.
I've read about that too. Very interesting and I have it in mind to build one. But for now, I sell as soon as possible. But it seems like the charcoal cooler will work well only during the dry season when humidity is low. I'm not sure but if that is the case, it may not solve your problem as perishables normally go up in price during dry season.

Please how do you store your peppers if you do not wish to sell to market immediately?

Keeping them in a well ventilated cool dry place, they lasted 7 days before showing signs of decay.

Are there tips on how they can be stored for a longer period?

Better to sell as soon as possible.

Thanks for your advice... The issue is I have already planted on nursery bed and they are four weeks old now.. So I have been thinking if should transfer them to cans as medium for single grow since nursery bags isn't readily available here in my area and I have am t of cans. Is it still good if I transfer them to the cans ?
.
U can use pure water satchet or all those small nylon use by market women.

Hi,

Is there a reason to transplant to grow bags first instead of directly to soil?
.
Transplanting to grow bags give them the opportunity to grow bigger and stronger. But it is not a must. Once they reach 4-9 weeks u can't transplant to farm, but do so in the evening and water them.

You can but I don't think it is the best. The cans will rust with time and making drain holes will be harder. Why not sow on a nursery bed and later transplant to single grow bags or even pure water satchets.

Please I'd like to ask a question, from your experience in growing okro, does it attract disease to other plants if intercroped? I'm asking because I planted okro on a plot and later added some ugu, the ugu are showing signs of fungal and bacteria diseases all over their leaves, while the okro are still fine after an early stage attack from aphids, someone said the diseases on the ugu is as a result of intercropping with Okro, how true is this I don't know, hence the need for my questions, experts in the house kindly help

I haven't grew that intercrop b4. Prune out those diseased leaves. Can u post a picture?

How effective is Lara force contact insecticide and Zforce fungicide.
Thanks
.
They're all effective if u use them well. Generally, u don't just make use of 1 pesticide over and over. Use at least 2 or 3 with different MOA (modes of action). That way, pests and diseases won't get use to them. Laraforce is a pyrethroid insecticides. Other members of that family includes cypermethrin, deltamethrin, tefluthrin etc. See a huge list of insecticide moa here: https://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/pi121

It is better to combine Zforce with a systemic fungicide like hexaconazole, strobilurin etc. Zforce is just a protectant fungicide - it protects uninfected leaves.

(1)we have sprayed high dose of insecticide by 1 pm,sun is blasting and a whole 5 weeks farm withered and died in 4 days (2) soil nematodes (3) insufficient and unplanned irrigation (4) reckless application of urea (5) too close density planting (6) using old bamboo and old ropes for staking (7) spraying the oyibo recommend dose of Haifa/450 gram per knapsack (coolDowny mildrew (9) trying to save bees by not spraying insecticide the result was not funny (10) experimenting with unproven seed varieties
.
Sorry for that bro and move on. I love bees but I have fell into trouble several times while trying to save them. However, there are lower risk pesticides that one can use. Right now, I have access to only Hallakat. But u still have to spray only in the evening, from 5pm.

When I uprooted the cukes .....low battery!
.
I don't use that Haifa dose in order to save cosy. I use 4Tbsp or less per sprayer.

Good day house
I stumbled on this post, and reading thru has been a great delight, agreeably it is if not the only thread that started since 2015 yet still active even in 2020
I am from Anambra but based in Lagos and i am considering coming home to start a small scale commercial farming ,
I need tutorials on where and how to start,
Where to under go a crash program, kinds of farm produce that flourish in eastern Nigeria and where to sell them
Thank you as i look forward to your response
.
You're welcome. You can start with vegetables like ugu, green amaranth, curry and scent leaves. If I had known 3 yes ago, those are what I shud have started with. As for selling, it is very easy. Market women can even come to ur farm to buy them.

Chinese government has no belief in god, but they're a wealthy and productive country.

The US government has by law separated god and state, they're a world power.

Belief in god is not the problem, but there's no scripture that says man should not practically solve his problems.

Religion is for spiritual affairs of man, and is not going to solve anyone's realworld problems. God gave man the tools - brain, eyes, hands and legs - for man to sort out his worldly affairs with. And that's precisely what advanced countries are doing.

They didnt pray a man to the moon, they built rockets and solved a lot of math and physics and chemistry and biology and material science problems to do that.

What has prayer done for Nigeria? What practical problem was ever solved with a prayer?

Today we're confronted with a serious problem, and all the promoters of miracles and divine healing and prayer-as-a-practical-solution have been cowed and humbled, and have receded far from the global conversation of how to tackle this pandemic. If you see them in public, they'd be wearing masks, not prayers

The Adeboyes and Oyedepos and TB Joshuas and Apostle Suleiman and Alfas and Mallams are all waiting for the godless countries and men of science to invent a vaccine and a cure.

And someone has the audacity to tell us to stop donating real money and pray instead.
.
Prayer is still important since thru it, God can give u wisdom to solve real life problems. But generally, u don't need prayer or God to be great in life. God allow His rain and sun to fall and shine on everyone. But in the end, those who rejected him will regret it.
.
The problem I see with Nigerian Christians is hypocrisy. Money is more important than salvation. If u ask me, I'll say that God have not even started dealing with Big. hypocricy.

Did you just say in your first paragraph that 1 Corinthians 3:13-15 is addressed to believers who are living uprightly and not those who sin?

So the Bible is saying in those verses that the Believer who lived uprightly shall suffer a loss of reward, according to you?

Was that a typographical error bro?

If you cannot even be as honest as saying exactly what the scriptures say, but keep insisting on your own, how do we reason the scriptures together then. Seeing that you do not even believe it.

And you calling a sinning believer a SINNER is a clear proof you have not even studied clearly who a believer is and who a sinner is. You still mix the two based on their actions.

Before I end this convo, let me give you a little tip. The Corinthian Christians were doing all sorts of abominable things after they were born again. I mean things that Christians should never do. And Paul had to write 1 and 2 Corinthians to correct them.

But do you know the shocking thing? While addressing these sinning believers who had just done all sorts of abominable things, Paul began by calling them "them that are Sanctified in Christ Jesus" and "Saints" (1 Corinthians 1:2).

Ordinarily, one would expect the apostle Paul to start addressing these Christians as "sinners" because they had fallen into sin. But instead, he still addressed them by their eternal righteous nature and terms in Christ. Do you know why?

Because there is a CLEAR DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE BELIEVER and the unbeliever who sins. They have never been the same in the scriptures. They are not today and will never be tomorrow.

You can decide to stick to what you believe as against the scriptures and even call yourself a man of integrity. But believe me brother, true Biblical integrity is actually melleability in God's hand. Allowing God's Word to confront your religious beliefs and dogmas, straighten and sharpen the ones that badly needs it.

God bless and keep you, and cause the Light of His Word to shine brightly on your paths. I'll stop here for now. The intent of the post was never to start arguments. It was rather to bless lives. And I seriously hope it has achieved that purpose.

Thank you!
.
The Corinthians were not all sinners. That is why Paul have to address them like that. My version of 1 Core 1:2 says " to the church of God which is in Corinth, to all who are called to be God's people, who belong to him in union with Christ Jesus..." So in essence, he was referring to the good people in the church and his goal is that everyone that attend the church shud live to please God.
.
My take on all these is that, a believer can sin, but he would feel bad about it and desire repentance. No Christian is perfect. Even Paul said he has not yet attend perfection but he continually strive towards it. Also, there are sins that shud not even be mentioned among believers, eg fornication, stealing, murder etc etc.

The believer in Jesus and the unbeliever can NEVER be punished alike. Nowhere in the scriptures does the Bible teach that.

I understand your fight against the so called believers living like the unbelievers. We're all on the same page on that. That's why we're calling all believers everywhere to "awake to righteousness and sin not"

But don't get unnecessarily emotional and start using falsehood and threats to spur them to act righteously.

The sinning believers will be punished quite OK. But do not equate them with unbelievers. They are never on the same level in the sight of God and will never receive the same type of punishment.

The scriptures teach that the believer who didn't live uprightly shall suffer loss of his rewards but his soul is still saved.

1Co 3:13-15 KJV 13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. 14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. 15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

However, the unbeliever is eternally doomed regardless of how good his actions are. Why? Because he did not believe that God has sent His Son into the world to die for his sins. This is just the plain truth of the scriptures.

Comparing the believer and the unbeliever when they sin, is like comparing a son of the house and a hired servant. They are not the same bro.

The son of the house can get punished severely and still have a right to his father's name. Even if he loses his freedom of movement or a part of his inheritance, he is still his father's son. But the hired servant gets thrown out of the house the moment he breaches the terms of the contract, with absolutely nothing to his name!

Now think of that carefully sir. I pray the Lord grants you the understanding.
.
Pls make this clear with examples. Are u saying that a believer, in quote, that is a fornicator will make heaven after punishment? Or a "believer" who dress half naked, or smoke, or sing dirty musics, crack dirty jokes etc, will make heaven after punishment? These are some of the sins that are very popular among naija "believers". So pls enlighten me more.
Christianity EtcRe: The Truth About The Judgement Day You Should Know As A Christian by FarmTech(m): 2:20pm On Apr 21, 2020

making heaven is just by faith in Jesus. Why do you think paul said he doesnt want to be found with his righteousness?
Many of you that want your own righteousness instead of the righteousness of Christ which is by faith would be shocked on how wrong you were.
Philippians 3:9
And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

Before you can live in holiness you must be made holy first.

You dont become holy by trying to live holy, same way you dont become righteous by trying to do righteousness.

Righteousness is not earned, it is a free gift. Holiness is as a result of having Christ nature.
.
I think I understand u. But let me make sth clearer. Christians are to depend on righteousness base on faith in Christ, not on righteousness base on the law. That does not mean that we shud relax and say that Christ have done it all. We have our own sacrifices and sufferings to do. The following vses will help:

Philippians 3:12, NIV: "Not that I have already obtained all this (perfection), or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me."

2 Peter 3:14-18 New International Version (NIV)
So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him. Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.

2 Timothy 2:21-22 English Standard Version (ESV)
Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.
So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.
.
So to live righteously, we must put in conscious effort. We must try, strive, flee with the help of the holy spirit.

Check under the leaves for signs of pests, including very tiny ones. Then spray an insecticide under the leaves. That plant is too small to hold fruits. Remove all those flowers asap.
