walcolm: grin yeah, thanx for the break down...but what does the acronym BA stand for?
BANKERS ACCEPTANCES
InvestmentRe: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by feelamong(op): 11:38am On Nov 20, 2013
Dollops: Please what is BA?
Ok in layman's terms... BAs is when you lend to a company with a bank acting as a guarantor that your money would be paid back to you at the expiration of the tenor.

For banks its like taking deposit from you at an agreed interest rate just like in any Fixed deposit;
However it is supposed to be money given to another party with a bank acting as guarantor. So most times its only Blue chips that actually do BAs using banks as guarantors or in another way, Banks raise the money for Blue chips from investors like you and I at a rate...

hope i made some sence sha! grin Been a long time i left banking work!

Good one bro!

I have been buying stocks monthly for my 5 years old son since he was a month old and the portfolio has done more that 75% growth compared to a money market that gives just 11% p.a.

How i wished my dad started buying in my name that early...

ucheson2: When nestle was at N100 some where afraid of heights so they did not invest their nestle and they are regretting it now I hope u ll not join those that ll regret when it ll get to N10,000, N100,000 ..... If companies on the newyork stock exchange can trade above USD10,000 nothing stops our own from selling at N1m. US, London, China ... are very far, have taken some time to browse the price list of JSE here in Africa and see how much they are selling? Some of those companies are not even doing as good .....
Thank you joor!

In Jan this year I bought Nestle for the first time at N700 Plus...
when i told my broker to buy, he said i was stupid.... and tolday am seating on close to 70% return on that small investment...

If only i had used all the money i used in doing Tbills to do this....

Nest year jan... for sure i will be buying more at any cost!

walcolm: Hi Folks,

just discovered this thread today...where have you guys been all my life?

how are you all doing?

looks like i have missed this week's bid....i suppose my questions would have been answered many times in previous pages

how easy is it to get into buying TBills? what's the minimum amount required to get in? how easy is it to pull out? am i locked in for a particular duration or can i break my investment at will

thanx guys
welcome bro!

better late than never!; Yea you have missed this week's bid but why not get in touch with your bankers for the next one in 2 weeks time.
You can actually break your investment but then its not too easy like you do your FDs, it would be sold off (Discounted) at the secondary market.
InvestmentRe: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by feelamong(op): 8:46am On Nov 20, 2013
Elai147: @Collinsobinna, I think it is better you do your investments with a tier 1 bank whose services you are comfortable with. A bank may be good for a particular investment type but not all their branches will offer satisfactory services. I am not familiar with BA but the main reason why I will choose TBills over other money market securities is because they are considered risk-free. If I must put my money on other securities it must be with a reputable bank. In this case I may prefer to go for the short terms with roll over options. The short-term nature equates to lower risk.
Hmmm... do not fully agree with ur take!

BAs are goodf investment out lets and they also pay you interst upfront... i do this with my former bankers just that the interest they give now is not good enough but at 11% for 91days.. i think its OK.

I also think that all the banks for now are very safe to do business with and as such no one should take any customer for granted. Infact the last CBN report only stated the facty that the said 8 banks are taking on more risk than their capital can carry and as such have been advised to raise uop their capital..

why would one go for short term and go thru the rigours of sending in rollover instructions when you do not need the money in the short term? moreover interest are projected to fall in the future so its betytter to lock up my funds for one year at a good interest rate.

But in all I prefer Tbills to other fixed income although am not too cool with its liquidity!!thats why i always go for the 90days...but i will definitely explore the Ecobank BA option now that it has been mentioned..
