Try any form of alcohol, even if its those gin in satchets, or methylated spirit. Those are powerful solvents you have there. However, f your leather seat isn't black (and i suspect it isn't), i advise you dilute the alcohol a bit first, to reduce the concentration to avoid bleaching your leather. If u apply and it looks 'safe', you may increase the concentration a bit. Or just look for some leather seat cleaners in spray cans. It works wonders. You spray on the leather and wipe with a cloth. you should get it at any mechanics' village / vehicle products store.....or maybe even at some large supermarkets. |
Bros, please help me check this. Thanks: 4F2CZ06103KM00331. Thanks Boss. |
Siena: Only available on auto / Tiptronic tranny. My Audi S8 is 5-speed Tiptronic.I see, coz the only cars I've seen paddle or steering mounted shifters on indeed have auto/tiptronic trannies. Thought u would have converted the S8 to manual . tho i remember u were fine with the tiptronic transmission back when you were considering getting an SUV........before you bought the S8 I believe. |
Siena: ^^^ I've got them on my Audi S8, and very rarely use them. Are paddle shifters also available for manual tranny cars? How do they work? u still have to clutch down b4 up or down shifting? ur S8 is manual right? |
salt 1: Follow ur gut instinct. In many cases, ur instincts are right.very good. Emphasis: 1) a neutral place, like a park or smwhere open. 2) discuss ur fears. 3) Watch out for his reaction (speech & action, said & unsaid). |
yahooman: Is that to big to sacrifice for marriageMay my female friends and cousins never cross your path. If they do, may they give a RESOUNDING NO to your proposal. Why not ask her to go for plastic surgery instead so her former friends and admirers won't recognise her. Thats not too big a ''sacrifice'' either. Rubbish. |
Ikenna351: Are you saying the engine is no longer electronically controlled (EFI)? That it has been converted to carburretor? If that is the case, then the engine is no longer managed or controlled by ECU. So, that could be the reason the o2 and cts were disconnected or butchered out. Dont bother about reconnecting or re-installing them, because they got no where to go or anywork to do any more. Unless, there exist a fuel carburreted engine that needs cts and o2 sensors to operate, i do not know of. It could be possible, but am yet to see one.No wonder! Now i get what a friend told me (good with cars too) when he said I'll spend quite some money and use up a lot of time if i go ahead with my planned complete "restoration"program. The fans, I'll definitely reconnect tho. You guys (Siena, Sultan, Ikenna) are really doing a lot of enlightening here. I love cars a lot, and I'm happy each time my knowledge base increases. |
Siena: You don't reconnect the thermostat - you reinstall it. There are no wires associated with a thermostat. You'll however need to reconnect the connector to your thermoswitch, which appears to be missing. The wires have probably been cut.Lol. Thanks for the correction boss. What's d bolded please? |
sultaan: This is why I ask people to take pictures of their engine and post it.Exactly what i did recently. Very serious difference.lol. I'll soon reconnect the thermostat hopefully tho. Further developments will dictate if i'll still do more on the car. |
Ikenna351: Holy crap! The car has seriously suffered.lol. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with more than the last 3 years history of the car. It was used as a government vehicle for about 4 yrs before then and trust government drivers to always go to the cheapest (& very unreliable) mechanics and look for the easy way out always without Oga's full knowledge. no maintenance culture whatsoever. It was during that period that a lot of havoc was wrecked to that car under the hood. For starters, i dunno which 'wise' person decided to convert the car from an injector fuel system to carburretor. That's even aside from the thermostat thing and all. Due to some recent developments, I'm still waiting to see if I'll really get to use it or another car before starting out on full "restoration" of that vehicle, coz i like the car. |
Ikenna351: Lol! @ Platinumricky.Well said. Was just about to pick issues with that part too. |
I hope it's reliable too, coz i just love the 4 door (or is it "5 door" ) hatchback. Cuter than d saloon *with that disproportionate booth length vs hood lenght *IMO* ) |
Thank you very much peeps, all our customers, past, current & future, especially to the very intelligent Nairalander (your username sir?) who bought 2 Supersonic express 16GBs this morning. Words of encouragement appreciated sir ![]() |
Siena: ^^^ That looks like the thermo switch, that switches on the fan, when the pre-set temperature is reached.kk. So the thermostat can be accessed by loosening those nuts right? This is the other stuff i told you about (with two unconnected wires) that i felt was the thermostat earlier. Mech said it has to do with the catalyst (catalytic converter) on the exhaust. He also said the catalyst has likely ''burnt out'' being an ''old car'' (possible??), and that may account for the increased fuel consumption. I'm aware of the relationship btwn fuel consumption & catalytic converter. But then, 1) i believe if a car's catalytic converter is absent, the engine sound will be rough especially on acceleration. The primera's engine is relatively smooth at idle n acceleration, so i feel its still dere. Is dere a way to actually detect its presence (as in if its still working)? 2)even if it isn't i doubt if i'll be able to get a replacement coz that stuff is one expensive vehicle part here. For the average car, based on my observations and enquiries from mechanics and users, u r looking at between N30k - 40k for a catalytic converter (popularly referred to as catalyst). How does the price compare in the UK? *hope i'm not derailing thread.* When the thermostat - fan connection has been put back to normal, i'll be sure to come back here with my observations.
|
Siena: Yep, the colored photograph depicts the thermostat.B0oss, sorry for replyin this late. had a busy weekend. so, i think i've been able to identify the location of the thermostat based on the diagram you gave me. i had cause to visit the car's mechanic (fairly trusted) for servicing (changing of oil n oi filter) later that day, so i told him of my intention to have the thermostat working again. naturally he initially said its not necessary, and proceeded to 'educate' me (saying most of what miccodb has just said here). I told him, you kno what, lets try it first, if it overheats (which i'm sure it wouldnt), then i'll consider a reversal back to the current state. but due to time, we've agreed on: -we fix a date, i take d car to him, stay with him (as always), he checks if the thermostat is still there and working, we arrange the connections back so it works with the fan. if not working / not there at all, we check for the part number and purchase another (can anyone give me an idea how much it costs? Ikenna?). even he was not too sure initially where it's located, but i pointed it out to him. this is it right?
|
Siena: I have no idea what the component with two wires on your engine is, unless you can snap a picture, and post it here. The thermostat is purely mechanical, and does not rely on any electronics to make it work.Alrite. i'll snap a pic and post here tomorrow morning. But surely, there must be something that'll connect the thermostat to the fans right? Hopefully tomorrow morning, i'll spend some time under the hood. The first pic you posted (the golden colored stuff inside what looks like springs), is that the thermostat proper? |
Thanks a lot boss. i'll look at the engine and revert back here if i have any more questions ![]() But what's the significance of the that stuff with two wires? do they have to be connected to something for the thermostat to work? |
Siena, this is the thermostat thread i referred to in another topic. My post is about 4 posts above this. Ikenna, please you can also contribute. Nissan primera 97/98 model, 1.6litre engine. -Can I replace the thermostat myself? -What does it look like? -Where is it located? There's one iron stuff with two wires (not connected) directly on the engine block. I'm suspecting that's it but not sure. I've tried google, no luck. Decided to try you guys here before heading to the mechanic. Thanks. |
We are good to go All thanks to God for taking us through the past 11 months. Please dont come home to sit down and start writing a million job tests. Write the job tests, but engage your brain. Make plans for the future. The job is not forthcoming & so you have to think: Would you rather start a business? What kinda business? How do you intend going about it? Do you have the funds? How can you convince an investor? Or you are considering masters? ok good. What school? What course? What does studying that course entail? How would it be useful to you short term and long term? What are the admission requirements? Exams to write? Application deadlines? You (we) need to find about these things. This is the real world now, & its not by class of degree. Gone are the days when you sit down and relax, rest assured you'll get a job soon just because you finished with a 2:1 or first class. It still happens tho, some of them already have 2 or even 3 job offers already, but thats just a minority. We can make it, but nothing good comes easy. When you get home, dont relax, THINK & BE SUCCESSFUL (not through illegal means tho) ![]() May God help us. Journey mercies to everyone going back to their respective homes. |
ogugua88: Lol, I don't mean to be hard. It's just that I don't understand why a grown man like El-Rufai should be on twitter more than me lol. One day I left early in the morning for work; around 5:30am PDT. I saw his tweets on my timeline before I left. I finished work and took the train to school. During the train ride, I checked twitter. He was still tweeting. School finished and I was home by the evening. I checked twitter with my phone for the third time. Oga was still awake, tweeting. I disagree with some of the things he says, but I agree with quite a bit of them too. The guy talks too much lol. Someone with his kind of influence shouldn't be parked online. We Nigerians like to talk. It's not often that action follows *sighs* One can't blame him, but his sitting back with his arms crossed with his "I told you so" attitude doesn't exactly solve anything.LOL! Its funny indeed. He does spend a lot of time on social media. On facebook, he's ever present too....usually posting articles (nice ones tho) authored by various people especially Hakeem Baba-Ahmed. I also expect more constructive criticism from him, he's lacking a bit in that area. At least dont just condemn, profer solutions. Hmmm...u studyin for a MPH? Lol. You are right. And an epidemic in this health consciousness - dead country could indeed be very disastrous. Lets hope they act fast sha, in short, lets hope they act. This health minister so far has been a disappointment. |
I hope some of you will now believe when those in the know tell you that LAGOS STATE FUNDS were DIRECTLY used to prosecute elections in other states particularly OSUN & ONDO states. Mimiko obviously collected money from Tinubu, but decided to ditch him when Tinubu's greed set in. I heard recently that Alphabeta consultants (Lagos state Revenue 'consultants' pocketing a handsome percentage of lagos state IGR every month for doing what the LIRS can conveniently do for free) have opened shop in Osun state. Not surprising seeing its owned by Tinubu (despite the denials). I do not think Mimiko has perfomed up to expectation in Ondo, judging by the funds at his disposal, but trust me peeps, ACN there will not be any better. There'll be lots of cosmetic achievements & maybe some concrete ones but i assure you, Bola Tinubu will milk that state dry. He has milked & is still milking Lagos. That's just the fact, a fact even his paid praise singers know. A fact Mimiko knows. Tinubu is one of the richest men in this country, yet he still dips his hands into LASG coffers. Of course i have no proof for the above, but I'm 99% certain of its veracity. Just ask anyone working in certain (if not all) ministries in the state secretariat. Its no secret anymore. If Fashola didnt have Tinubu breathing behind his back, Lagos state will have over-transformed such that come 2015, i'm sure people will forget what's called zoning & vote that man into aso rock. He has his own faults too, but he's easily one of the best Governors (if not the best) in this country. Tinubu gave him his 1st term on a platter, but Fash earned his second term himself. Infact, his performance almost cost him that election but smart & cunning (yeah i'll give him that) Tinubu realised not too late that should he ditch Fashola for another candidate as he planned, Fash will clinch that election & rigging will be resisted. As much as PDP is despised in Lagos, Tinubu's LG in Lagos was won by a Obanikoro, a PDP candidate (ACN rigged & d election tribunal has thrown dem out). That should tell you something. Mimiko had better take a cue from Fashola & perform well in his second term. |
ogugua88: That's the conclusion I came to as well lol.Expected. Lol. You are one of the objective ones we have here na......even tho i feel you are bein too hard on him....unfollowing him on twittter and all He's a good guy o, but obviously, yes, he's not perfect. His dislike & bitterness for this government is much, no doubt, & really, sometimes when I think of just how much money (& time) was wasted, frittered away & virtually unaccounted for last year by the FG in d name of making the 'right people' (not the masses) happy coz of election, at the expense of much needed long overue development, i don't blame him. & we are still suffering for it till today. Lets just pray some food scarcity wont set in nationwide early next year, no thanks to the ZERO preparedness of the FG for the FORSEEN and PREDICTED (warnings were issued) flooding currently being experienced. |
Its not by the amount of times u post on NL, its not by ur degree, neither is it by your age. Once you refuse to have sense, u wont have it. The article writer & the OP here have justified El-Rufai's statement in one of the tweets in that the malicious nature of the article plus the utterly misleading headline makes it seem like a sponsored attack. I believe any fairly intelligent mind should be able to deduce from the tweets (which thankfully were posted) that El-Rufai is saying: 1) lets wait for proof before hanging Dino to dry. 2) When you have enemies, they can do anything and say anything to paint you black. Is there anything wrong in the above ?Na wa for people o. |
Siena: Sorry to butt in here - an Audi A4 quattro 3,2 V6 makes 241 bhp. It's IMPOSSIBLE to reach a speed of 230 mph in that car. It just doesn't make anywhere near enough power. 230 km/h yeah, not mph. Unless this is just some joke. He's talking about a video game. Need for Speed Most Wanted. Lol Boss, I need your help in the 'Thermostat' thread please. |
Thank you soo much for this sir. We keep asking, you are doing it, so we wont stop thanking. Please could you help with this: 1HGCM56726A003571 *my second request in 4 days*feeling guilty* Thanks for indulging me boss ![]() |
Siena: Of course I know my license plate number without looking. It's not about memorizing, it's something I just do subconsciously. I even remember the license plate numbers of my mom's first car in Nigeria, bought in 1976, a brand new Ford Cortina, my dad's car bought the same year, a Plymouth Avenger. I remember every subsequent license plate number of all cars they owned thereafter.@Siena, help needed here please. www.nairaland.com/1067650/thermostat @Topic, i just have to laff.lol. The number of cars whose plate numbers i have in my head are just too many. & for most of them, i usually don't intend to memorise them, they just stick! Even the new number plates of my neighbours' cars (those who changed theirs) have started sticking to my head! It has advantages though. & IMO, not knowing your car's license plate is like not knowing your car colour! Each is just as important as the other. |
Good Morning all! Thanks for your patronage. |
Siena: Your thermostat's working just fine. The optimum operating temperature is between 86 - 100 degrees celsius. With the gauge in the middle, it's reading approximately 90 degrees celsius, which is normal.LOL. I've read lots of educative posts from Siena and Ikenna on the need to ensure the vehicle thermostat is left alone & not removed by the mechanics. But this particular one is kinda hilarious....while no less educative. As in i'm sure OP will NEVER EVER remove his thermostat. Siena has spelt complete doom for that engine if he tries it. Lol. @Siena, please can you point out the location of the thermostat (& what it looks like) on a Nissan Primera 1997 model 1.6l engine. (P11 series). Thanks. I suspect the one i drive has had it's thermostat removed coz the fan comes up immediately the engine is switched on early in the morning. Over the past 3+ yrs i've been driving it fairly constantly, i've noticed the fuel consumption seems a bit much for a 1.6litre engined vehicle, despite the fact that it has a manual transmission & i drive 'carefully' (low rpm & higher gears when possible). How can it be replaced? & dyu think its something I can do myself? I might start using the car again on a regular soon & fuel is N97/litre ![]() & is dere any disadvantage of early shifting to higher gears i.e. Driving at low rpms most of the tym? |
Still selling.... Available!!! Check first post for updated list of available items ![]() Thank you for your patronage. |
