Ikenna351: One doesnt need to wait till he starts earning a million naira monthly to own a car. I was using and maintaining my father's car while i was in the University with my pocket money, singlehandedly. Not once did i seek for financial assistance from dad to keep the car on the road. I wasnt rich, in case you are wondering. The little i was getting was enough. It was possible to do so because i adopted and applied preventative maintenance, to prevent the car breaking down, which would cost much to fix.I agree with most of this. However,in my view: i) Some Nigerian used cars (depending on how well used i.e. terrain, driving frequency & proper maintenance) are far better off than some tokunbo cars of the same brand n model. For many tokunbo cars, u have to first change the tyres (they usually come with almost dead tyres) and battery. and if you r lucky, ur job ends there. A very well used and properly maintained Naija used may wel be a buy and drive. note that some people have cars they only drive on weekends. I personally though would prefer buying a Naija used car whose history i'm familiar with, or i can obtain from service records. ii) In my last post for example, i recommended 3 toyotas not because they won't develop issues, but because I kno their parts in the market are relatively cheap if they do. & thats aside from their ruggedity (especially the Avensis Corona & Orobo camry). I guess that's part of the reasons y Nigerians go with Toyota, though I have to admit the brand is indeed overrated most times. iii) You made a good recommendatn with Golf 3, no doubt. i guess i didnt mention it because it had been mentioned earlier & well, i was lookin at OP's query from my own point of view. In spite of the fact that the VW Golf (1.6, 1.8l) is even more fuel efficient than the fuel efficient camry 2.2 4 cyl, I'll stil go for the camry/corona. that's just me sha.lol. But the Golf is indeed a splendid n rugged ride. A friend sold his about a year ago when he was leavin for the UK for M.Sc. for 200k! Golf 3 GT, with the extra plastics n BB5 alloys. It seriously pained me coz knowin that ride, & how sound it was, i wouldv found a way to arrange even 250k just to get it, but i was too late. OP, we don feed you with info. The final choice is yours ![]() |
Thing is, because of the past accident, Dana air is very likely to become the safest local airline in the country coz they will do everything they possibly can (in an ideal situation) to ensure strict adherence to air safety standards. They've learnt the hard way. For those saying they won't fly Dana again, make them come with rock bottom prices, many of una go sing another tune. Lol. I still think the suspension shouldv gone on for longer though, especially as they've been unofficially indicted. But oh well, lets see what happens. They should even lessen Arik & Aero's burden. |
You should be fine with a Toyota Camry ''Orobo'' (92-96). Or a Nigerian used manual gear baby boy, or a Nigerian used camry thin light. I advise u go for a 4 cylinder engine version of any of these cars , as they have wonderful fuel economy. Also consider a nigerian used Toyota Avensis (Corona)....around year 2000 model.. Note however that if you are buying a nigerian used car, u had better go with a trusted competent mechanic to check it out for you if you are not sure of its history. |
hmmm.... Big for nothing. The SE doesnt look so bad tho, with the back spoilers n 5 spoke alloy wheels. That's the only one i can buy with my money.lol. Or i could buy the XLE, fit it with back spoilers & probably change the wheels as well. The 2005/2006 SE & XLE too isnt soo bad too. I love the redesigned front bumper n front grille. All in all, my big for nothing (if i'm ever goin to buy one) MUST have fog lights, back spoiler on the booth, nice alloy wheels, & preferably leather interior. The formica finishing & digital AC controls rear AC vent (XLE features) are optional.lol. |

Hmmm..... Odikwa serious matter. I just dont know what adjective i can use to describe this luxury private jet on 4 wheels. Happy sales. |
ajadek: pls I want to buy car and I was thinking of going 4 toyota or honda in term of fuel and maitainers.2008 toyota or eod.pls I need ur advice.or infinity jeepHmmmm...... the infiniti jeeps, whether the QX4 (3.3L or 3.5L V6), the FX35 (3.5L V6) or the FX45(4.5L V8) are powerful machines.....and THIRSTY as well. If you are really after good fuel economy, then i suggest you go for a 4 cylinder Honda Accord or Toyota Camry. Or better still, a Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic. Or if you want an SUV with good economy, try the Highlander (preferably the 4 cylinder), the Rav4 or the CR-V. Whichever you decide to buy, make sure you carry out regular maintenance and service as specified. then make use of the internet to visit online car forums and know the issue you might face with your particular vehicle model, and ways you can completely avoid them or manage them when they occur |
tukzee: @FindOut Thanks for the infor, visit this link to see the fuel economy figures of the 2001 Toyota Sienna http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/Find.do?action=sbs&id=17102 Well, the Sienna is practically a V6 Toyota Camry minivan. From my observations, report of friends, neighbours, family members, that vehicle is quite easy to maintain. usually, you only have to service your engine when due and you are fine. Once you notice any strange sound, get your trusted mechanic to look at it immediately. But the ride generally doesn't give problems. & despite its size, it moves quite fast too, thanks to the V6 engine. If you spend a lot of time in traffic, you do not really have the need for a mini van, you don't pass through terrible roads often and you re not willing to spend much on fuel, then I advise you consider the 2001 Camry. Note that the Sienna's fuel economy is not bad for a V6 minivan, infact, its not bad at all. And well, if you must get a minivan, get the Sienna. |

Wallie: To add to what was already said, there are quite a few variables to consider that affects fuel consumption and the size of the engine is just one of them.On point boss. |
gmyguy: the automatic gearbox for that baby goes for half a million naira...just sayinglol. but then unless he's extremely careless/negligent/ignorant, he wont have to replace his gearbox. |
@OP & Find Out, which small jeep do you think has better fuel efficiency that their cost is low? Am thinking of getting one soon by God's grace. Thanks!
SpaceAngel: Some SUVs with such qualities are Toyota rav4, Honda crv, mitsubishi-outlanderi concur with these choices. if you cannot afford a toks, you can get a good and clean well maintained naija used for moderate amounts *If you r buying any naija used vehicle, always go with a COMPETENT and TRUSTWORTHY mechanic to check it out THOROUGHLY for you* |
acidtalk: ^^^No probs Boss. I frequent the car talk section to learn more and share my own little knowledge when I can. I'm around, & if any question pass my power, i know my gurus here (Siena, Fhemmy, Trac, Sultaan, Ikenna e.t.c.) will do justice to it.lol |
Hmmm.... Fuel consumption!!! Fuel consumption!!!! Well, we really have to be careful here especially when it comes to generalising certain vehicle brands as consumers and some as non-thirsty vehicles. I'd say you find out the ENGINE CONFIGURATION/DISPLACEMENT of the PARTICULAR vehicle you intend to buy. Then consult the internet if you want to have an idea of the fuel economy figures (fueleconomy dot gov) is a very useful site in this regard. Some people say, ''oh, Benz, audi, they consume fuel. Toyota is very fuel efficient. Honda is the best'' Go and buy an Audi A4/Volks passat i4 1.8litre, (naturally aspirated, non turbo) and come back and tell me if it consumes fuel. It doesnt. Go and buy another Audi A4/Volks Passat, same model year, looks exactly the same as the first, (OK, maybe this one has leather) but with a 2.8litre V6 engine. U'll get different (higher) fuel consumption figures, especially if u spend a lotta tym in traffic. Get Volks Bora/Jetta/Golf (IV), 1.6 litre engine (you'll be wondering if your car engine does not use fuel). Get the same model year Volks Bora/Jetta/Golf(IV) with a 2.8 VR6 engine, much higher fuel consumption figures. Even the hondas and Toyotas which we hold in high esteem, same same. I know for a fact that the V6(3.0litre) Honda Accord 03 -07 EOD & Discussion continues CONSUME fuel...if you drive in heavy traffic a lot. Whereas, those who drive the 4 cylinder (2.4litre) versions will tell you ''Honda is very fuel efficient, & well, in their case, they wouldnt be lying''. Or if you still think Toyotas are fuel efficient, get urself a Toyota Sequioa or Landcruiser, powered by a V8 4.7litre, then you'll be properly re-educated. Know your car well before you buy it. I personally love V6 cars coz of the power, but I know i'll be paying for it at d filling station. If you are not willing /capable enough to spend a lot of cash on fuel, then dont just buy any camry or bora coz they are fuel efficient. Ensure that you go for the one with the particular engine capacity that will give you the best fuel economy. Mercedes cars are also another serious cause for confusion. Many people do not know that the first generatn C class for e.g. comes in about 4 diff engine variants....at least that can be commonly found on naija roads. U have the C180, C200, C230, C280. Those numbers mean something, usually used to denote the exact (or close to) engine displacement. Know the particular C class you are buying. If you buy a C280 (2.8litre V6) & you are expecting the same infrequent visits to the filling station as applies to your neighbour who drives the C180, then you'll be in 4 a shock. Above all, as has bn said severally here, proper vehicle maintenance is key to getting the best fuel economy results. |
danjohn: Oga you know say na Atiku talk that one na. As for your suggestion I am strongly considering taking a sabatical from my job to work on the 2015 campaign (hopefully it is Buhari/Fashola or Fashola/Marwa).Lool. I know!!! I wonder why people keep ascribing that statement to Buhari. U go do well as campaign team member o..lol. Yeah, let's wait for the candidates before we know who to support. Even tho i'll find it hard to ever cast my vote for any PDP candidate, its really high time we concentrate on candidates rather than parties. We go recruit Jarus too. That guy na effective organizer. |
naiko: not to derail your post but i mean 3.5 for 2012 model for me is cheap, being brand new because i remember i bought my 2011 model for almost 4 million so hw can?my point exactly. A Tokunbo 2011 model still sells for 3-3.5 million. Even more. So i expect a brand new 2012 model to start from way higher. Anywy, since OP has said its for real, Happy sales ![]() |
^^^ Nice one up there. Hope you've dropped ur CV and campaign ideas at the CPC secretariat o.lol. I agree completely. Buhari couldv spoken out then but the truth is no matter what he would have said, the press & the PDP (assuming they are not ihtertwined) would have still crucified him while pretending to ignore the fact that it was (is) not primarily Buhari's responsibility to ensure law and order in d country & safeguard the life of its citizens. Some people were busy popping champagne in Abuja and others were fighting over themselves to congratulate the champagne poppers, while innocent people were being killed for over 3 days. Where were the policemen and d soldiers?? & Let us get this clear once and for all. Maybe i didnt read well. Who said he'll ''make Nigeria ungovernable'' if he loses the elections ( or something to that effect) ? Was it Muhammadu Buhari (CPC) OR Atiku Abubakar (PDP)? |
3.5 Million ![]() ![]() ?? Or was that a typo? |
thelastPope: Buhari has still not showed us what he did with hundreds of billions of Naira in PTF. Five years of looting and squander. He is trying to cover up by living like an Aboki but we cannot be fooled. Where are the PTF projects because we cant see anything in our states. What did he do with the money. No impact in Education, Infrastructure, Agriculture, Power, Transport, Job creation, in fact, nothing. He just shared the money amongst his peers just like he did in 1978/79.This must be the biggest lie of the century. If you were in Nigeria during late 1990s & u didnt see anythn PTF? Then i guess u were underground. Even a foreign journal/mag/organizatn (cant remember which) once adjudged the PTF as the most successful government intervention in Africa. This guy used to go n inspect projects with policemen. If the contractor was not performin as he ought to, or not on site, na arrest sharp sharp, no waste time. I can vividly remember seeing several textbooks then with the PTF stamp, drug dispensing envelopes with the PTF insignia. Back then, i used to wonder what d whole PTF was all about. I knew what was going on, but was a bit young to fully understand. |

NO NO NO NO NO & NO!!! I strongly believe that money should remain with the FG & NOT returned to Delta. 1) Delta state Govt has once said their money was not missing, in essence, exonerating Chief Ibori. 2) 'Hon.' Justice Marcel Awokulehin has cleared Chief Ibori of all charges, in essence (according to my limited legal knowledge), Mr. Ibori is NOT guilty of bribing anybody. 3) The current political leadership in Delta state is a well known ally of former Governor Ibori. How are we sure that should this money is returned to Delta, it would actually be spent to improve the lives of the people. Or is it too far-fetched to suggest that this money might be invested or kept for the former Governor (at least in the short-term, b4 it is inevitably re-embezzled), so he can have some cushion to fall back on whenever he gets back to Nigeria? 4) Last week/dis weekend, we heard news making rounds that there was a plot by some powerful people to retrieve & keep the money for the former Governor. Now, is that 'rumor' not proving to be true with the current propaganda & brouhaha over this issue? 5) This is BRIBE money. A FEDERAL GOVERNMENT official was bribed with it & he declined & submitted the money instead. We shouldnt care if the money is for DTSG or Ibori inherited it from his father, the money should remain confiscated & added to the federation account as income. Pure and simple. 6) For those saying the money can be used by the current DTSG to ''improve the lives of the people'', my question is simple: Delta state has a population of less than 5 million & receives BILLIONS of naira monthly. Has this told on the living standards of the average Deltan? The Governor is trying, yes, but with the amount of money he receieves every month, trust me, he can do A WHOLE LOT MORE.. Lets not deceive ourselves. I spent the first half of this year in beloved Delta so i think I know what i'm talking about. But lemme not derail the topic. The 15 Million dollars should be credited to the Federation account ASAP. Note: I'm be quite nice by saying the Governor is trying. |
