In addition to all that has been said, as at 2010, a 92-96 Toyota Camry V6 tokunbo engine at Ladipo cost around 75k, while the i4 cost 120-130k! & I'm fairly certain that till now, the V6 engine is cheaper.

Also, mechanics familiar with the 2002-2006 Camry will tell you that the 4 cylinder engine is nowhere near as strong as the V6 (this applies for all cars I believe anyway). But it appears that due to the size of this camry in particular, a lot of strain is usually put on the 4 cylinder leading to gradual engine wear over time (especially if its not well taken care of).

& to the best of my knowledge, all Avalons come in V6.

There are some 4 cylinder 2001 -2006 Highlanders.

& there's a certain thrill that comes with driving a V6, the way ur car shoots forward at a light touch of the accelerator, the 'balance' at moderate to high speeds, e.t.c. For those who like to drive, forget it, you'll never want to drive a 4 cylinder car again.

Allah builds an amazing argument for dealing with anger in the Quran. In Surah Al Shura, Starting from ayah 36. Allah Says:

36 What you have been given is only the fleeting enjoyment of this world. Far better and more lasting is what God will give to those who truly believe and place their trust exclusively in their master;

36. Fama ooteetum min shay-in fa mataAAu alhayati alddunya wama AAinda Allahi khayrun waabqa lillatheena amanoo waAAala rabbihim yatawakkaloona


Allah tells you that what he has is better, not only that, It is also longer lasting... What Allah is telling us here is that in this world,whatever you have, Allah has something better

I. You have a house, Allah has a better house
ii. You have clothes, Allah has better clothes
iii. You have a ride, Allah has a better ride
iv. You have a youth, health or wealth, Allah will give you better.
v. You have company, Allah will give you better company

The lesson here is that, do not get caught up in these things because what Allah has is far better and remember as great as these things are, Allah has better.

Not only are they better, they are also longer lasting. Everything you have in this world is temporary, you have a house, it starts deteriorating, your new car will start having problems, your health starts deteriorating, you have friends, you drift apart. whatever you have in this world, does not last.



What this implies is that, It takes a lot of trust to really, really believe in What Allah is offering you in the next life. This is something you have not seen, touched or smelt, Something you have only heard about. Those people who trust Allah based on his word and truly believe the next life is better and longer lasting. It takes belief and trust in Allah.

You might be worrying what this has to do with Anger, but Allah is building an argument, In the Next Ayah 37, Allah continues:

37 those are the people who shun great sins and all forms of shamelessness; and when they are angry, they forgive;

37. Waallatheena yajtaniboona kaba-ira al-ithmi waalfawahisha wa-itha ma ghadiboo hum yaghfiroona

Allah talks about the people who realise that the entire world is utility and prefer the next life over this one as those who shun great sins. There are major sins and minor sins, Your priority first is to stay away away from the major sins, Work on the major sins first. Then Allah says that they stay away from all forms of shamelessness.

Then Allah says: When they get angry...

Before going further, let's examine how the argument is built:

I. Allah first tells us that these people realise this world is nothing compared to the next:

If this world is everything you have, when things go wrong in this world, You get angry. However, if things go badly in this world and you realise that this world is nothing compared to the next, you are not so worked up about it. It is easy for you to say: Inna lilahi wa inna ilehi rajiun...( No doubt to Allah we belong and to Him is our eventual return). It is easy for you to calm down.

This only happens when you really internalize the first lesson.

II. Then Allah talks about shunning major sins and of all the major sins, shamelessness is highlighted... So what is shamelessness here? It refers to the inability to control your desires. you have an urge and you do it. You have an urge to see something and you do not hold back, you look at it. You have an urge to go somewhere, you can't hold yourself back, You have an urge to be with someone, you do it. You do not hold back whether it pleases Allah or not.

When you lose control over these urges, when it comes to your anger, you will be out of control too... The one who is shameless is also the one who has no control of their temper.

The one who can guard their shame and control these urges, which are far stronger will find it easier to control their anger. All of us have temptations and we face them all the time. If you can hold your self back from that. Holding your self back from anger is so much easier.

Allah does not say, when they get angry, they calm down... Allah says : They forgive...

May Allah make it easy for us muslims( from threads here on nairaland to the streets in northern Nigeria) to be calm and peaceful especialy when provoked. That is indeed best for us.

But i have an idea of the cost of a good number of cars. 2.1 million for a 2005 EOD (even if it is EX-L) is a bit high a think (the car dealers here can correct me if i'm wrong). I suggest u check the 'autos' section on nairaland here & scroll through. You should be able to find something lower, however, ensure you are buying a clean title vehicle, or if salvaged, hasnt suffered severe irreparable damage, has been thorughly fixed & is fit to drive (should be cheaper).
To be on the safe side, just get a clean
title ride. U should be able to land one for less than 2 million naira i believe.

Siena: Your post suggests there was doubt on the part of lots of posters here. So if there's doubt, smart people do the sensible thing - ask questions! Or go as far as using Google or any other search engine. The same means they had to insult the poster could have been employed to do a little basic research.

I've always said it that Nairaland is a microcosm of Nigeria. What you see on Nairaland can point you in the direction for the major cause(s) of Nigeria's problem today. Things we are supposed to take serious, we joke with, things we are supposed to take in our stride, non-issues, we give relevance. Those things that are of real benefit to us, we laugh off, & outrightly reject. Am I the only one who thinks this car would have looked way better if it was just black, maybe suede black or any other customized special form of black? Or maybe even silver...nah he's not an old guy. Black. Black. Black.

Some cars are already flashy, they make 'noise' already. Too much fancy painting & designs is overdoing things & will kill the car's look IMO. This is a Bentley Continental GT, not a Hummer.

Physically, just one major difference: The E0D 2003, 2004 has its rear lights coloured white (trafficator & reverse) & Red (brakes & parking), while the 2005 E0D has all red rear lights (trafficator, brakes, parking) & just one small white box (reverse light) within. However, both types of lights are the same size and form, so i believe i can comfortably fit a 2005 rear light on a 2003 accord, so ur best bet of knowing the exact year is by checking the VIN of the car (the 10th character denotes the model year) & the manufacturing date of most cars can be found on a sticker on the drivers side when you open the door.

2005 is naturally (since it was the 3rd year model of that generation) likely the least problematic of them all, some say its less prone to transmission issues too. However, i would still love me an EX version (better audio, audio controls on steering, maybe leather, alloy wheels too) manual gear (rare tho) of any of those cars were I the buyer.

dnpasion, sorry about your denial. Jerry Westfall may not have appeared on any of your documents, but might be the VO's father or brother, or even teacher while the VO was at college (yes, he might well be an alumni of that school!)

My small advice to everyone else going for the interview is to spend some time going thru your university's info on wikipedia. It could help. You may be asked for the name of your University's President or your faculty dean & a good answer might just guarantee your visa even if you fumble in some other questions.

Then, on the question of ''why this school?'' I have a suggestion for graduate students: U can say ''Oh, while carrying out your undergraduate seminar/project, about 3 of the 28 journals (make d VO know say this one serious.lol) you used were written/co-written by Dr. Blablabla & so when you had 3 admits & decided to go thru the profile of each school, u were pleasantly surprised to discover he/she's actually a staff of the faculty, that in fact, you initiated correspondence with him immediately & he has agreed to be your supervisor.

Yeah, i'm giving you guys my expo (since i may not face a VO till maybe June/July..lol) coz it might help some people. I've observed that a very good answer to even just one of the questions might be enough in some cases to secure your visa. Then don't forget God.

When i applied for undergrad visa for spring 2008, i was denied. Why? I wasnt well packaged (had finished high school in 2k4, was already in 200-300level, but strike too much e.t.c), plus i was freaking nervous & very COLD which seriously affected my confidence. I've never been a stranger to AC all my life but mehn, that day the embassy was just toooooo COOOLD. Even the VO interviewing me, his face was almost white.lol. Maybe the cooling system had a problem that day, or a VIP from Alaska was present, but I know that next time i set forth to the embassy for a visa interview, i will be wearing 3 layers of clothing + blazer (making 4). Note: my folks are not poor, middle class or maybe upper middle class, thank God, but to shell out millions for MSc no easy o, when other commitments dey. Which is why i'm hoping to get a GA or RA with tuition waiver (hopefully full waiver). Other costs, i will comfortably take care of by God's grace. Thanks house.
