How long you take in preparing depends on how good you are naturally in English and Maths, especially English. Why? Its usually the english part that plucks people's eyes. If you have a very good command of vocabulary, you can effectively prepare in as little as 2weeks of focused reading and get an outstanding score. If your vocab is not so tight, its better you take some time getting to know all those them tacky words up close before you go for the exam. This might take you up to 2-3 months of active study depending on how fast you are. For some, it may even take up to 6 months. To guide you as to how good you are and how well you are doing, you can check your scores on all those practice tests in the studypacks and the GRE Powerprep software. Make sure you are timing yourself exactly sha, to get a more accurate picture of your readiness. You can always rough out the Maths part without taking so much stress. For materials, you can use Kaplan or Barron's. Different people prefer different ones, but i think both are quite good. I personally used Kaplan anyway, with a mix of some other funny materials. U can always study on your own, most people do, unless you particularly like being taught. As for registering, better go get a bank's visacard or mastercard, before they scam you. I used a Skyebank Visacard when I did mine. Very straightforward. Get a card, go online and register straight. No long thing.
Thanx a lot. I think I'm very much much above average as regards English/Verbal. I took the SAT twice in 2008, I had a score of 710 out of 800 in the Verbal/critical reading section, and an aggregate of 1920.Got admission, was denied a visa, long story cut short. I know the GRE is a different ball game, but I believe my SAT experience could be of advantage. I intend to put in 6 weeks of intensive study starting today, for the GRE. Thanx again for the hint as regards direct online registration. But I was under the impression that d online reg isn't available for Nigeria tho', will do further research as soon as I'm about to register, hopefully, next week. Cheers. |

Take some time out to spend a few hours at any General Hospital, preferably a fairly busy one. Dont book an appointment to see any doctor. Just try to go round the wards & clinics for maybe just an hour or two. When you see people suffering, relatives helpless, dead bodies brought out from the ward, accident victims brought in, then you'll realise you have a whole lot to thank God for. Coz some of the sick & dead people are more educated than you are, may even be younger than you are, may be more handsome, but it has pleased God to spare your life & keep you in good health. Then go home and ponder on these words of wisdom: 1) Health is Wealth 2) When there is life, there is hope. Think about them, relate it with what you've seen at the hospital, think about the many good things that could still happen in your life within an even shorter time frame than you think, and SMILE. That should help your depression to an extent. And once the mind is strong, every oda thin seems easy. Best of luck. |
Very good post from Ajanlekoko. Frank advice i give my undergraduate friends is this: When you are in school, try your very best to graduate with a 2:1. If however, you end up graduating with a 2:2, or third class, then its not the end of the world. Try to make ur seeming 'disadvantage' work to your advantage. Open your minds & conduct research as regards obtaining a Masters degree, or registering for proffesional courses. & if you decide to go the business way, its all good, as long as you are totally honest with what you do. Some people graduate with a 2:1 & go home to sleep, living under the illusion that they won't have difficulties obtaining jobs after NYSC. Big Lie. Many 2:1 graduates are roamin the streets of Lagos, still jobless, while their 2:2 counterparts are busy developing themselves, or in some cases, have even found jobs. And lastly, a friend told me this: Even if you have a 2:2, do not let that deter you from applying for a job that states 2:1 as the minimum requirement. The worst that could happen is you won't be contacted. But in some cases, 2:2 graduates have been called for interviews & have sometyms gotten jobs that were advertised as strictly for 2:1 or first class. Whatever grade you graduate with, make sure you are able to defend it. Miracles do happen & don't let anyone ever make you feel inferior coz of any seeming disadvantage. I graduated with a painful 3.48, Microbiology, LASU and I'm due to go for NYSC in November God willing. And I'm confident that God has wonderful plans for me, which is why I wouldnt rest on my oars as I paddle my way to success. |

This reminds me of Femi Fani-Kayode's usual response as spokesman for OBJ wheneva the 3rd term question was thrown to him: ''The president will abide by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria''. Jonathan said he won't be a beneficiary of the 6 year single term. If the single term amendment is approved (by hook or by crook) & d constitution is successfully amended before the end of his tenure (as I'm fairly certain dat would happen once that particular amendment is passed), Can someone please explain to me how GEJ won't be a beneficiary, as he has now reminded us again that he would ''abide by the constitution''. I wont be surprised if some lawyers go to court seeking an order to ''compel'' the president to obey the single term of 6 years ''as contained in the constitution'', therefore our GEJ will ''have no choice but to obey the constitution (unwillingly abi??)'' Why am i not surprised that some people have started regretting their votes for him. Lol. The leaders think the followers are daft, they may be right, and then, they may be wrong. Goodluck Nigeria. Lets hope Mr GEJ 'll start fulfilling his mountain load of promises soon. |
is it still available? Pls send last price to realrazak4u@yahoo.com. Thanx. |

emmatok:Thanks for the education. I was also doubting if the stocks will be available, since as of right now, Spring, Bank PHB & Afribank legally dont exist. I hope the banks are better repositioned by their respective new managements. Who knows? In 3 yrs, they may turn out to be among the top banks in Nigeria. Goodluck to them ![]() |
deenee:Thanks for the clarification. i hope Nwabobo reads this. |
'' I voted for Goodluck & not PDP'' . Maybe it would have been better to vote just PDP & not Goodluck ( if that was possible). Well, Goodluck Nigeria. |
groovy400:Obviously, you haven't read all / at least most comments on this thread spanning all 6 pages. Some people visited this thread with similiar mindsets like yours but they chose to educate themselves first, now, they have seen the light. I advise you read the post directly above yours at least for clarification on the issues you have blamed our able & effective (though not perfect) CBN governor for. As for me,well, i'm considering BUYING any of these 3 banks stocks soon as i have the cash , so please people, go and sell on monday o, so the price go drop , and then d smart ones will buy later in the week & wait for what happens in d next few months. But from what i've just read (Denee's last post), i think all might indeed turn out well.Kudos to NDIC, Kudos to CBN, Kudos to Sanusi for pushing for the setting up of AMCON, Kudos to the Sanusi haters who are beginnin to grudgingly accept that the man is quite capable. Conspiracy theorists will still come here and spend hours typing on just how the buying of the former bridge banks is a way to ''islamise'' or ''northenise'' Nigeria in the long term (3yrs abi). Lol. |

Mr Chris:U r welcome bro. This below should also help sales i believe, (dubbed from wikipedia).I just love this ride The AMG version of the W164, the ML63 AMG, was introduced at the 2006 North American International Auto Show as a limited edition 2007 model. It features a 6.2 L M156 V8 engine producing 510 hp (380 kW) and 465 lb·ft (630 N·m) that is handcrafted in Germany . The engine is added to an AMG Speedshift 7G-Tronic seven-speed automatic transmission. The 2006 ML63 AMG can accelerate from 0–60 mph (96 km/h) in just 4.8 seconds, or from 0–62 mph (100 km/h) in just 5.0 seconds. These impressive features made the ML 63 AMG the most powerful naturally aspırated V8 SUV in the world. |
1) A good number of those against islamic banking are not ignorant, they r just hypocrites. 2) Many NLers just type rubbish replies to threads without reading the initial replies, in this case, the article about islamic banking written by a xtian i believe, on the first page. 3) The Nler who implied that Okonjo Iweala may not support islamic banking obviously hasnt read/listened to what the lady said at the senate during her screenin. I believe she used d word ''naive'' when describing those who said the introduction of islamic banking is a way of islamising Nigeria 4) Many NLers against islamic banking are pretendin not to know (or actually dont know) that Soludo granted the first islamic bank licence during his tenure. yes, ISLAMIC bank, not non-interest bank. 5) Many xtians r actually very very intolerant. As an example, does Convenant univ recognize muslim holidays? or r they not aware that some of their students r muslims? So, for this, has heaven fallen? *whereas, if this was a vice versa situatn, as in the uni was owned by a muslim, heaven wuldv fallen*. 6) Malaysia's economic success today is in small way a result of the islamic financial system they employ. 7) For God's sake, the religious leaders crying foul should assemble their economists and pastors, draft a proposal for ''Christian banking'', and submit it to CBN. If its not considered based on its merits, they can cry foul. Sanusi invited the xtian leaders to a summit at Abuja to enlighten them on the issue, and allow them express their misgivings,so he culd explain thins, they didnt show up. now people here are makin noise that questions were not asked at d house of reps. Well, i believe more sensitizatn campaigns will be made.9) Ordinarily, this shouldnt be an issue at all. Christians pioneered and still dominate private universities ownership, even down to microfinance banks i hear, yet no muslim has said its an attempt to christianise Nigeria. 10) Christians against islamic banking, open ur minds, & please, use ur brains. |
splendid arguments, from most forumites so far. Gbawe, Texazzpette, God bless u guys. I usually feel a lot smarter when I read u guys posts. Please keep it up. Sanusi will always be seen as a muslim northerner who has no business heading the CBN. That however will not deter him from doing his job & receivin commendations & encouragements from people who matter. And as able Jarus also pointed out, he's not infallible, a fact the man acknowledged when he was ''summoned'' by the 'distinguished' senators to defend his pronouncement over their massive 'legal loot'. Please lets keep tribal and religious sentiments at bay when discussing and commentin on national issues, afterall, we all claim to be intelligent, dont we? ![]() |
