I guess the US Visa Fee Regime is a better situation than the Nigerian Visa Fee Regime for anyone planning to come to Nigeria

“CNN International correspondent, Larry Madowo, has expressed dismay over Nigeria’s visa fees.

Madowo, who made this known on his LinkedIn account on Monday, disclosed that despite holding a Kenyan passport, which grants visa-free access to numerous African nations such as Uganda, South Africa, and Ghana, Nigeria requires a substantial fee of $215 for a single-entry visa.

He wrote, ”Nigeria just charged me $215 for a one-month, single entry visa. Again. I was here three weeks ago – paid the same $215. This is actually my third time in Nigeria this year, so they have made $645 from me in 2024 alone.

“The visa itself costs $25, but Nigeria charges a $20 ‘processing fee’ and $170 for biometrics every time. My fingerprints haven’t changed since I was here three weeks ago. Why am I paying $170 to have them taken and to pose for a picture each time I visit? Isn’t that a standard part of admitting someone into a country?”

Education / Re: From Inspector General Of The Nigerian Police To A Jail Cell by fkj950ax(m): 7:29am On Apr 06
Balogun attended the University of Lagos, graduating in 1972 with a B.A. in Political Science. He joined the Nigeria Police Force in May 1973. While a police officer, he gained a law degree from the University of Ibadan. After working in various positions around the country, he became Principal Staff Officer to former Inspector-General of Police, Muhammadu Gambo, then Deputy Commissioner of Police in Edo State, and then Commissioner of Police first in Delta State and then in Rivers State and Abia State. He was appointed Assistant Inspector General of Police in A.I.G. Zone One Kano, the position he held when promoted to Inspector General of Police on 6 March 2002.[1][2]
In November 2001, as A.I.G., Balogun reassured reporters that there were provisions to ensure the safety of businessmen in Nigeria through the outfit called Diplomatic Corp and Foreign National Protection Unit.[3]

Balogun became IGP in March 2002, replacing Musiliu Smith.[4] He was responsible for overall police security during the April 2003 national elections, which were marred by reports of police abuses.[5] In August 2003, Balogun presented a paper on "Nigeria: Electoral Violence and National Security" in which he advocated improvements such as use of national identity cards, mass education, electoral law reforms, citizens participation in politics, good governance and establishment of a constitutional court.[6]
In December 2003, Balogun organised extensive security measures across Nigeria to ensure that there were no disturbances during the Commonwealth of Nations summit.[7] Following various incidents in 2004 where reporters were beaten and their equipment damaged by policemen, Balogun made apologies and promised that those responsible would be punished.[8]
Towards the end of 2004, newspapers published allegations of corruption on a massive scale, asserting that Balogun had pocketed public money and taken bribes from politicians and criminals. These led to his forced retirement in January 2005.[2]
Later career
edit
On 4 April 2005, Balogun was arraigned at the Federal High Court, Abuja on charges involving about N13 billion obtained through money laundering, theft and other sources.[9] The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission under Nuhu Ribadu brought 70 charges against Balogun covering the period from 2002 to 2004.[10] He made a plea bargain with the court in exchange for returning much of the property and money.[11] He was sentenced to six months in jail.[12] He was released on 9 February 2006 after serving his sentence, part of it in Abuja National Hospital.[13]
In November 2008 and again in February 2009, the Chairman of the House Committee on Police Affairs, Abdul Ahmed Ningi, asked the Inspector General of Police Mike Okiro, to provide details of the money recovered from Balogun, a request that he passed on to the EFCC chairman, Mrs Farida Waziri. However, the EFCC stated that they did not have records of the exact properties recovered from Balogun.[11] It was said that some of the houses had been secretly sold to certain individuals at give-away prices.[14] In April 2009, the House of Representatives Committee on Police Affairs invited Balogun, Mike Okiro and Mrs Farida Waziri to explain how the N16 billion allegedly recovered from Balogun went missing.[15]
He died on 4 August 2022.[16]

Politics / Re: The CHURCH Is The Reason Why Nigeria Isn't Working by fkj950ax(m): 12:48pm On Mar 28
babasolution:
Actually my post isn't about the church but about the colonial GENERATION who destroyed Nigeria.

There's a common denominator about them
All they know and understand is religion.

For the Christians their ultimate focus is church church ,Bible ,God etc.

The Muslims is the same.

They are the generation that killed all thriving industries and created the current booming religion industry in NIG.

That has been their legacy has they bow out,
Religion.

They have built nothing
They have left nothing

Younger generation are building Nigeria from the ground up.

The only thing the colonial GENERATION have built successfully in Nigeria is the religious industry with thriving booming churches worldwide and Islamist fundamentalism.

No technology, no innovation, no economic progress, no infrastructure, no political advancement, no industries, only few businesses,no rule of law,no educational advancements etc .

only
Religion, only religion

You have contributed nothing (just as the people you blame) with this post in fixing Nigeria.
The colonial generation as you put it is not guilty of all you say ails Nigeria.

No it hasn't. CBN and AsoRock are artificially forcing the FX rate down. Until we have a good and sustained uptrend in exports, (and maybe downtick in imports) we would not have lower FX rates. All these intervention by AsoRock and CBN are artificial and not market forces. It will bottom out in the next months.

Hello everyone,

Thank you for all the helpful comments so far. Please i have a quick question:

Can i do a new DS160 form and update it or i would have to pay a new visa fee? Reason for the change - Purpose of visit has changed.
Is birth tourism a legal reason for them to consider your application?
Is it still possible to get dates before June 2024? Is there anyone that can help?
Thank you so much.

Yes you can fill out a new DS160
You don’t have to pay a new fee
Birth tourism is highly likely to get you a denial due to the current immigration issue in the US. In addition, a State.Gov rule to VOs states birth tourism is an impermissible reason to obtain a US visa.
Date issue is above my pay grade… I have no info

You are a wokistan feminist
You want to be child free
You hate having to go through your monthly period and “be free like men” as you fight for ‘equality’

The time you used in creating a topic here is more than the time you need to Google where to remove your womb. But we know the intention is NOT to remove your womb, but to propagate another blue haired wokistan feminist agenda.

In the next 40 years, you wouldn’t have removed anything

People should go and verify how much his counterpart in the US will collect for a special detailed investigation like this. Roughly $1.3m which I still consider reasonable.
Is Nigeria now America?
Minimum wage in USA for a day is minimum wage for a month in Nigeria ($15/hr x 8 hours x N1500/$1) NGN160,000
Rent for a week in USA is rent for a year in Nigeria ($500/wk @N1500/$1 x 4 weeks = N3,000,000
We musn't compare and base everything with the US. Your account wont balance.

And what exactly are you doing that you want other "people to go and verify how much his counterpart in the US will collect..."?
It's not that you are busy or even have anything better to do apart from NL and/or faffing around the neighborhood that you can't do this on behalf of everyone. Put your money where your mouth is.

I can't find where to start a thread on this so I'll just do it here.

I'm in the US and have no green card or work papers. My dad did me wrong and didn't get my green card. I've been here the last 21 years unable to work a regular job and mostly homeless. I've decided I should just return to Nigeria so I can at least work, etc. But I have questions:

How do I go about doing this? I don't have my Nigerian passport anymore and would have to get another one. Also, who do I talk to here in the US? I want to be back where people are generally comvivial or hospitable. There are plenty of opportunities in America, but they usually come at unforeseen costs. I don't want to be here any longer as not even the churches here are willing to lend a hand. Everyone here is selfish and if you're not selfish before you come here, you will be after.

Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

You can still get your Nigerian Passport at NY consulate. Most of the process starts online.
Going back to Nigeria is always an option but what are you going to in Nigeria? 21 years is a long time and you’d have no social support or network.
At above 21years of age, you should be responsible for your life choices and not your dad or people around.
Things are tough in the US. Things are tougher in Nigeria. There are no jobs in Nigeria too.

One final question, which state in the US are you?

Once again, my opinion about invitation letter is that it is a document people pay so much emphasis on that in the true sense of things, not important. You have it but can’t email it to the embassy. You can’t upload it when filling your DS160. 99% of times, the VO doesn’t ask or even collect it from you to read during the interview. So why so much hullabaloo around it.
In the world of PM, you are advised to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. If you are part of the 1% at the interview, flaunt it.
As you have gotten it, it’s not wrong or a crime or even a liability in your application, but if it’s an asset is the question.
Being a participant at a conference is okay, but that won’t sway a VO. Being a Resource Person or Presenter holds more weight and most of us going for conferences are participants.
I want to assume the said letter is for a 2024 conference. Will you get an interview date before the conference date? Is this letter for getting EA or the interview proper?
USGov clearly states that EA process is not for attending conferences. See image below or read.
https://www.ustraveldocs.com/ng/en/expedited-appointment
Applying for EA to get a 2024 interview date is not a crime nor is it wrong. But when your EA application is intentionally arranged to game the system, it contravenes the process as spelt out and also, it creates a new backlog for people that genuinely need EAs. The process was put in place to help people skip the interview backlog. But as Nigerians, we are running streets with the process.

Are you sure this friend you know went to US PoE or it might have been DPRK he went to?
Arrested at PoE and held for one (1) year, no deportation?

An invitation letter has no bearing on your application. It is not step 1.
Just be detailed in your DS160 application (which is Step 1)

Hi guys
I just got a letter inviting me for a conference in July 2024
My question is, what is the next process with this letter of invitation. Should I go ahead and start filling the DS 160 form or is there something else I need to do first?
You will probably NOT get an interview date before July 2024.
Invitation Letter not exactly useful in the true sense of it all.

Mumu.
How am I a mumu?
This is me being rude to you, but you are not very bright, and I am sure your parents, siblings and friends must have told you this many times.

If she and obviously YOU could make such a stupid decision to build someone else’s life for years and had no plan for yourself, then I guess nothing out of the ordinary happened.

Normal people with sense live life as follows:

A boy is born
A girl is born
A boy gets education
A girl gets education
A boy learns trade
A girl learns trade
A boy rents a house
A girl rents a house
A boy buys a car
A girl buys a car
A boy starts business
A girl starts business
A boy buys land
A girl buys land
A boy builds house
A girl builds house

A boy asks a girl out for a relationship
A girl accepts the boys relationship
(Everything above stays as they are. No joint venture)

A boy proposes to a girl
A girl can refuse proposal (no crime in this)
A girl can accept the proposal
At this point, ONLY ONE THING (not all) from above becomes joint venture - accommodation/house. Everything else stays as is - both parties keep their education, trade, career, car(s), business, etc and use it for the family.
The moment one walks away from the other, everything EXCEPT accomodation/house reverts back to before.
But ladies just abandon everything when they get married and start crying like you and the person in the story are doing.
When boy and girl have children, they should raise their children to rinse and repeat the above.

It's obvious you don't know about BRICS... They sell their crude in their own currency, whilst strengthen their currency

You also dont know about BRICS. It has nothing to do with Crude Oil Sales.
BRICS is an intergovernmental organization that includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. The group was established in 2006 by Brazil, Russia, India, and China to challenge the economic and political power of the wealthier nations in North America and Western Europe. In 2010, South Africa joined the group, making it BRICS.
BRICS is considered the Global South's answer to the Group of Seven (G7) major developed economies. The group's expansion would add economic heft and amplify its ambition to become a champion of the Global South.

“But this carnage is completely out of hand and totally unacceptable. There is no way to explain the double standards; it has to stop.”

It’s fine to have an opinion about any issue, but when you are in public office, your statement have to be guarded. Is this the position of the Federal Government?

The only reason Palestine doesn’t exist as a State is because they have rejected statehood more than once. People behind the 2 State Solution never address the plan by Palestinian supporters wanting Israel disappearing effectively making it one state again.
