Having cleared that, I'm sure you know there's another law in Nigeria today called the VAPP Act, which is actually gender based. If this woman's lawyer brings the VAPP Act into the case she'll walk free or get a light sentence. One of the things that Act targets is spousal rape because it's happening.

Me stating that I am Lawyer should tell you that my assertion was based on my area of practice.
Nigerian Lawyers only have licence to practice in Nigeria where they are called.
I still insist that NOBODY can succeed in any action on Spousal rape in Nigeria.
The Violence Against Persons Act that you cited has nothing to do with a man sleeping with his wife without her consent, the only way that Act can come in is when he becomes violent or inflicts bodily injuries on her.
Even at that, she can only make claims and succeed for those injuries he inflicted and NOT on the basis of HAVING SEX WITH HER WITHOUT HER CONSENT.
Stop arguing over this issue, I'm not saying that I support a man having to force his way with his wife, but the LAW is the LAW...

As far as Nigeria is concerned, spousal rape does not exist and is NOT a CRIME!!

The Hausas and Northern Muslims do not hesitate to attack Christians at any slightest provocation. I'm sure you're aware of Deborah's case, there are thousands of unreported situations like that happening in the far north.
So you should know that the issue of religion is very sensitive to an average Northern Christian, especially the ones from NE and NW.
