I bought a 2009 Honda Pilot Touring January this year and it developed AC issues in February. I took it to a technician in Port Harcourt who discovered that the AC's coil was burnt, so we replaced the coil, refilled the refrigerant and the AC started working properly again. Sometime in May, the AC stopped cooling again, so I took it to another technician in Yenagoa, who insisted that I change the AC hoses to stop d leakage he detected. That we did and refilled up with refrigerant again and it started cooling again. A week later, the AC stopped cooling again, so I took it to the technician in Bayelsa who worked on it last and he said non-challantly that I should change the compressor. At that point I flared up on him and drove off to another technician who check and brought out the burnt-out coil, which he then replaced. We refilled with refrigerant and it was okay again. Last week, the AC stopped working again. Today, I took it to the last technician that worked on it and he proved to me that the AC stopped cooling as a result of a leakage in the compressor and that the only solution is for me to change the compressor. I left him and went to another technician who also checked it and proved to me that the truck has a leaking compressor which I have to change if I want AC in the car. At this point, I made enquiries and was told that the compressor is sold for N40,000.00 and that if I feel like that's expensive, I should buy that of an Acura MDX which goes for N25,000.00. That it would fit in and work properly. Please, I'm sorry for the long post, but I have to narrate my ordeal, so that you can understand where I am coming from and how far I have gone. I know many people would suggest I scan the car. I have a scanner, but it ain't detecting nothing. Moreover, the truck is self-diagnosing and has not shown anything on the in-car screen where it shows and tell you of the faults the truck has. Now, my questions are: 1. Is it really a leaking compressor that's causing the problem? 2. Is the AC compressor of a 2009 Honda Pilot Touring really as expensive as N40,000.00? 3. Should I buy the AC compressor of the Acura MDX and allow them to fit it into a Pilot? 4. How do I know a bad compressor from a good one, when am buying a replacement for the old one? Please, I need advice so as to know what line of action to take on Monday. Thanks all and God bless you in advance. Lol... |
This is so lame and out of context. We all know its the APC that blames. They blame anything and everything on PDP or Ex-President Jonathan. The PDP is always trying to absolve themselves of the blames or refute the lies and slander slammed on them by the APC. Next use your common sense, I know say e no common, but e better pass your APC sense by far... |
Emekasmart: kokaneprodigy:Please, this is Cartalk. We don't do insults and abuses here. We seek advice and opinion and try to help one another resolve issues with cars and not to trade words, insults and blames. Please the two of you should just take this your childish rants to politics section where you can either join the PDP or APC goons and insult the hell outta ya lives. @Ikenna, Lomomike. Please, you guys should sanitize this thread o. Its becoming very unbecoming of... |
lomomike:OP, please don't listen to him. I agree with him that life is too short to be overtly over guided. But, not when it comes to a Land Rover Freelander. We have discussed this very issue here, over and over again. Some guy had to change the engine and transmission to that of a Toyota Camry. So most of the Freelanders you might have been seeing on the road are actually not what they are. They are more like Jacob's voice, Esau's body, if you know what I mean... Last line: Please, whatever you do, DON'T BUY THE LAND ROVER FREELANDER. Run! Run!! Run!!! as fast as you can and remember not to look back while you are at it. Lol... |
lonelydora:You are on point here. Just add Toyota Sequoia to the mix and you are home and dry. However, I think I have seen a couple of Toyota Corollas (First Lady) in that awkward position too. It is not limited to the Hondas only... |
saxwizard:Yes. Here in Naija. I have seen Ferraris, Lambos and Aston Martins here in Naija. So what's with your question? Nigeria is not the worst country on the planet with bad roads, I hope you know that. |
DMerciful:Rocket battery sahra for everywhere. I don't even think that's the factory battery that came with the car. Meanwhile, any other battery with same specs would do. It mustn't be Rocket alone. I hope I did help a little... |
Logician:Its now obvious that even if a statement hits you in the face or falls on top of your head and breaks it, you still won't recognise it. My bad though... |
Logician:"statement" please. So much for 'I-go-school'... |
Logician:Neither is your opinion worth anything at all. There is no error in that phrase, be it grammatical or on the intended meaning. And please, its "your opinion don't..." and not "doesn't". It is also "...error in the phrase..." and not "on the phrase". So much for someone who is advising a better schooled person to go back to school. I SMHFU... |
Logician:I still maintain that you really need to go back and school yourself properly. You highlighted a phrase from my post and made a vague comment, yet you want me to understand. Abi you think say I be winch? That was so Dumbo... Meanwhile, OP I hope you've made your choice before someone else comes around to add Toyota 4Runner into the mix. Lolz... |
Logician:I don't get it. Please, how do you mean? |
Logician:Go back and repeat school. You'll need it a lot. Thank me later... OP, I think the Hyundai would do you a lot of good. Hyundais are just being underrated for nothing. Its a car you would most def not regret buying. The Koreans have come a long way and carved a niche for themselves. Enjoy innovation woith the Hyundai... |
Logician:What's your problem and this Toyota ish? The gentleman is torn between a 2003 Lexus RX 300 & a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe, here. You are throwing Highlander into the mix. Is the Lexus not a Toyota? He has narrowed his choices to just these two and here you are sounding off. Its peeps like you that makes Toyota overpriced in the market. Back to Topic. The Lexus is a luxury car, while the Hyundai (with reference to your choices above) is not. The Lexus most likely as seen the road more (except if it is a salvage or lemon) than the Hyundai. Personally, I would go for the Hyundai because I prefer a recent car to any old car except for Classic cars... |
Burger01:Although, the Honda Civic is chic, but that Mazda 3 dey make my body do yori yori... |
I had the same experience at Chelsea Hotel in Area 10, Abuja. We arrived Abuja from Port Harcourt after travelling by road for over 10 hours to check into our rooms at the hotel. I think it was about 6-7pm or thereabouts and there was a short queue of about 3 people before we arrived. We were just 2 in our team. Some 2 customers joined the queue behind us and we were all tired with long and drawn faces waiting in line to be allocated rooms as I had already previously booked for our (my team) rooms. Then it happened. A Whiteman, obviously arriving from the airport came in and joined the queue behind the last person. One of the front office staff at the desk then beckoned on him (the Whiteman) to come to the counter and started attending to him. Not as if the Hotel has a policy of segregation or whatever. Not as if I am new to the Hotel as I have been staying there for over 4 years each time I am in Abuja and I go to Abuja at least twice in a month with each stay spanning a period of not less than 4 days. In short, the staff already give me preferential treatment most times, while the Management gave me a fat discount on rooms and sends me Chrismas gifts every year. This is to lay a background of how conversant I am with the Hotel, staff and Management. Back to my story. The Whiteman was already counting his money to pay when I descended on the Hotel Staff. I asked him why he had to single out the Whiteman for preferential treatment when its obvious that we have an organized queue going. I asked him if he (the staff) would be given same treatment if he were to fin himself in New York, Amsterdam, Manchester, etc. I also asked him if the Whiteman is paying more than I was charged and if that be the case, did they charge me like they charged him and I refused to pay? I starting saying something about racism, in my face, in my country, on my soil and the lobby became jam-packed with guests and other staff and I was sure to bring down the roof as I go berserk. Being an hotel of high standing, the Management staff around had to ask the front office staff to discontinue attending to the white guy and politely asked the Whiteman to rejoin the queue and the Staff that did the discrimination was asked to leave the counter immediately to an adjoining office and normal services resumed. While my show was going on, especially when I brought in the racism thing, the Whiteman became very sober and apologetic and you could see that he was really sorry as his face fell with remorse and lost some colour. It wasn't his fault anyways as he was jejely on the queue when that sabi sabi staff called him up. I look the man come dey pity am sef. That night, I had an apology note from the night manager, with a free dinner and a bottle of wine, all on the house. I come dey wish say repeat version go dey dey again and again, make man for dey wack free food and knack am down with free booze... |

I am an Honda man, but I must confess that the Accord looks rather bland compared to the Sonata. I haven't driven or been in any of the two so I might not be able to tell which would outperform the other. Going by the looks in the pix, I would go for the Sonata any day anytime... |
abassarems:Where is the noise coming from? Is it from the tyres? The engine bay? The vehicle cabin? The back? Or from beneath the cabin? Your question is so vague and you expect answers. Whistling or squealing sounds from the engine bay might imply loose or slacked belts or adjusters needing replacement of such belts or adjusters or simply by tensioning the belts if adjustable and sometimes by replacing the adjuster itself. From the tyres might imply worn out brake pads, so you may need to change the brake pads and so on. So please, when next you have an issue, try and be more explicit with your explanations and help would come faster... |
calculation:I tried doing same in Bayelsa just before I sold my Acura TL, but was discouraged by the FRSC officials in charge of vehicle registration that it is more of a myth than a reality, they also said something about me spending more money than if I opt for a fresh reg and also running into issues and problems and that I should just forget about swapping number plates and just do a fresh reg for my new car. In the end, I had to sell the Acura TL with its number plate. I don't know if it would be different in Lagos... |
earthrealm:Obviously, you know nothing about cars. How can you be comparing a Pilot to a RAV4? What would you compare the CRV to? This is an online forum and people from all over the world would be reading and be like " Ah ah! Kilode? these Nigerians sef, do they even know anything at all?" |
abatically:I don't know why you guys are haranguing the OP? He didn't say he ain't using no coolant? The requirement is to always use a 50-50% mixture of coolant-distilled water, if you ain't using a premixed coolant. All he is asking is whether it is okay to use the water discharged from the a/c at home in place of distilled water and you guys come sounding off as if he ain't gat no idea about coolant. I was expecting to see analysis of why we should/shouldn't use the water discharged from a/cs in place of distilled water. Just like the analysis on treated (tap) water. |
The Venza is just a Toyota Camry wagon... |
siraj1402:Don't be blinded by hatred. Haters gonna hate anyways... The Wike I know, owns even more expensive cars than that toy that every tom, dhick & Harry owns around the street corners. Can you compare his evogue to the G-Wagon even street urchins are using in PH. I pity you, if you expect a Nigerian Governor to use pencil light or fish tail or 2003 highlander usually recommended by Kazeem, then you are really wicked. With or without Governorship of Rivers State, Woke would still own such a car anyways. By the way, do you know how much most of those bullet-proof Land Cruisers or Lexus LX 570 SUV most Governors are using cost? This car is just a chip off their price tags. For once, be realistic so that you don't keep sounding like a fool in the market place... |
Google has, as always commemorated the 2015 May (Workers) day with the following... What do you guys make of it?
|
SmartChoices:You no specify model year na, so how you expect make him know whether na used or new you dey ask of? Abi him be winch? Lol... |
SmartChoices:I don't get it please. Go over my posts in the thread again. I don't remember mentioning 4Runner in any of them... |
SmartChoices:Both. The Toyota Land Cruiser like every other Toyota car in the market is overpriced. It also doesn't have the phrase 'fuel economy' in its diction. |
lomomike:The Toyota Land Cruiser is a very good off roader. Little wonders, International organizations like WHO, FAO, Doctors without Borders, the Red Cross, etc who were initially using the Land Rover Defender in the '80s and '90s moved on to the Toyota Land Cruiser because of its proven off road capabilities. At least, Top Gear proved it that too... |
SmartChoices:...and also very expensive... |
chucky234:Tokumbo has been noted. I thought you were referring to new OEM mirror initially... |
