PoliticsRe: PDP Looted Our Destiny, Prospects, Jobs – Fashola by foreshore(m): 5:31pm On Dec 11, 2018
StateNews:
The Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Babatunde Fashola SAN, on Monday, blamed the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party for abandoned federal government projects across the country.

He stated this while inspecting the building project of the federal secretariat, Awka, Anambra State.

He described the corruption during the PDP era as monumental, adding, “They looted our collective destiny, prospects, jobs and so on.

“That’s why the masses are suffering today. That’s why there are no jobs. But we (APC) are trying to bring back smiles on the faces of Nigerians.”

He said the 18-kilometer Umunya axis of the Onitsha/Enugu Expressway would be completed in May, 2019, while the federal secretariat, Awka, the state capital would  be completed the first quarter of next year.

Fashola, said the Buhari government inherited those projects because past governments failed to complete them as a result  of corruption.

“They awarded the contract without paying contractors, and when you don’t pay contractors you create problems down the labour ladder.

“This man here told me that he gets N30,000 per week. With such fund he will patronise pubs in the evening by eating Isiewu (goat head) and drinking with his friends in the evening and through such way wealth is distributed and redistributed; jobs are created.

“For instance, the contract for  this federal secretariat  was awarded in 2012 by the previous administration without making funds available for its completion. If the money meant for it was not stolen, it would have been completed before now.

“We are bringing back what was denied the people in the past to them; that’s the difference between a development administration and a corrupt regime,” the minister stated.

PoliticsRe: Falana To EFCC: Sealing Assets Of Suspects Not The Way To Fight Corruption by foreshore(m): 7:39am On Dec 10, 2018
Adeitanajoke:

Femi Falana, a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has advised the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to stop sealing off assets belonging to suspects of financial crimes.

The lawyer gave the advice in Ikeja at the presentation of ‘Compendium of High-Profile Corruption and Financial Crimes Cases in Nigeria’.

Falana said sealing of properties while cases were still pending in courts does not do the public any good as the assets eventually lose economic value.

He said: “I do not subscribe to the locking up of assets or properties while a case is still pending in court. I do not think the EFCC or other anti-corruption agencies should be doing that.

“If somebody has stolen money to build a hospital, just like the one on Adeniyi Jones in Ikeja, somebody was alleged to have stolen to build the hospital worth about N2.5billion, which is sealed now.

“For me, you are not doing the public any good by just locking up the place and by putting your inscription: ‘Under Investigation’.

“Why don’t you allow it to function so that the place can benefit the people, because it is already acquired for public purpose.

“And this should go for all buildings too. People are looking for accommodation and you just lock up blocks of flat over cases still pending in court.

“And these cases may be in court for years. And by the time the cases are concluded, the premises you have sealed no longer have their value.

“The EFCC was set up to revive businesses not to liquidate them. You liquidate businesses by just getting some court orders. That to me, is not the way to fight corruption.”

Falana said the seized vehicles wasting away at EFCC offices is a cause for concern.

He suggested that the vehicles could be sold by the EFCC while the proceeds are kept in an account pending the determination of the cases involving their owners.

“If the case is finally resolved in favour of the suspects, they are given the money, if not, the money is forfeited to the government,” he said.

“That, I think, is better than allowing these vehicles to waste away while cases are being investigated or still pending in court.”

PoliticsRe: Top Ten Unresolved Murders Involving Top Nigerians by foreshore(m): 3:26am On Dec 10, 2018
FactBoyz:
Over the years, Nigeria has not been so stable in providing adequate security. Sequence to that, people are murdered in cold blood and their attackers are never found. These facts surrounding murder cases in Nigeria must be something critically resolved to avoid future occurrences of similar repute. However have compiled a list of unresolved murders involving Top Nigerians.

1. Dele Giwa- (16 March 1947 – 19 October 1986) was a journalist, editor and founder of the Newswatch magazine. Prior to his death, Dele Giwa was a writer who often criticized the government with his publications. Two days prior to his assassination; he was invited by the Nigerian State Security Service(SSS) for questioning The Newswatch editor had just written an article on second-tier foreign exchange market (SFEM), a Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) policy introduced at the time. In the publication, Giwa said if SFEM failed, the people would stone “their leaders in the streets”.

Ajibola Kunle Togun, the then deputy director of the SSS, later met with Giwa and said he did not find anything offensive in the story.

However in a different turn of events, Ray Ekpu, a colleague of Giwa, said Togun accused the journalist of planning to publish the “other side” of the story on the circumstances that led to the removal of Ebitu Ukiwe as chief of staff to Ibrahim Babangida, former military head of state.

Giwa was also accused of plotting with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and other groups to carry out a “socialist revolution”.

Around the same time, Giwa was quizzed by Halilu Akilu of the directorate of military intelligence (DMI) over an allegation that he had been heard speaking to some people about arms importation.

On the sad day of the assassination, he received a call over the telephone that the matters arising had been resolved after the journalist inquired about his frequent calls.

Not long after the call, a package(letter bomb) was delivered to Giwa which severely wounded him. He was with Kayode Soyinka, London bureau chief of Newswatch, who narrowly escaped the blast after he excused himself to visit the restroom.

Giwa was taken to the hospital but later died from the wounds he sustained from the blast.

Although, Mohammed Buba Marwa, a former military governor of Lagos state, has been accused of being the courier of the bomb, no one has been convicted for Giwa’s murder.

2. Chief Bola Ige: (13 September 1930 – 23 December 2001) was the Governor of Oyo state from 1979 to 1983. He sought nomination from the Alliance for democracy for the presidency in 1999. He also served as the minister for Mines and Power from 1999-2000. From 2000 to 2001 he became Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He was also known for vehemently rejecting the imposition of Sharia law in northern states. On 23 December 2001, Bola Ige was shot dead at his home in the south-western city of Ibadan. He had been entangled in squabbles within his Alliance for Democracy party in Osun State. In a speech at his funeral, he was quoted as saying that he was sure that Nigeria was worth living for but he was not so sure that it was worth dying for.

3. Chinweike Asadu: CP Asadu, who was the Kwara state Commisioner of police was brutally shot and killed in Abakpa Enugu state. On the fateful 2nd day of March 2013, a man in police uniform attacked the Police Commissioner while driving into his house after dropping a lawyer friend who visited him that fateful evening. The Police Commissioner drove the red coloured Toyota Camry in which they were attacked. CP Asadu was driving to his house, when a bus overtook and blocked his car. The driver, was in front of the car with the Police Commissioner while the police corporal, who was deployed from the Abakpa Police Division to guard the Police Commissioner’s house, was in uniform and at the back seat with his AK47 rifle. According to the driver, “one of the gunmen ordered the commissioner to get down from the car and as he opened to alight, his orderly in mufti in front with him also opened the door apparently to identify themselves but when the heavily armed assailants saw a policeman in uniform in the car, they suspected that he would shoot them and they immediately opened fire. CP Asadu was killed, while the driver and the police orderly sustained bullet injuries. Four years later in 2017, a report suggested that the killers have been identified and arrested.

4. Bisoye Tejuoso: (22 June 1916- 19 September 1996) was a Nigerian businesswoman from Abeokuta, Ogun state. Born into Egba royal family, her grandfather was Oba Karunwi, Osile of Oke-Ona, Abeokuta. She attended the Idi Aba Training college on Abeokuta, and she established herself in the business world dealing with foodstuffs and foams. This made her acquire various real estates in all around the country.

She was murdered in 1996 at age 80 amid controversy over the Obaship of Egbaland. To date, her murder has not been solved and the killers remain unknown.

5. Mohammed Shuwa (September 1, 1939 – November 2, 2012) Shuwa was an army major general was a Nigerian Army Major General and the first General Officer Commanding of the Nigerian Army's 1st Division. In 1966, Lt. Col Shuwa was Commander of the 5th Battalion in Kano during the Nigerian Army Counter coup of 1966 where many Igbo military officers were systematically murdered by their northern counterparts for what the northern officers perceived as retribution for the January 15, 1966 coup (which was led by mostly Igbo officers). Shuwa's deputy at the 5th Battalion, then Major James Oluleye took the initiative by asking his company commanders to lock up the battalion armory and hand over the armory keys in Olulye's armory safe. As a result of Shuwa and Oluleye's leadership, the lives of many Igbo officers during the July mutiny were saved. Pretty heroic right? He was unfortunately killed by perceived Boko Haram insurgents in his home in Maiduguri Borno state on November 2, 2012. No one knows for sure how he was killed.

6. John Otunba Payne: (1839-1906) Payne was born in 1839, his father was from a royal house in Ijebu Ode. He was a Nigerian sheriff; and administrator who was a prominent personality in Lagos during the nineteenth century. He was a Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court of Lagos and he also served as a registrar in various colonial departments such as the Police Court, the Chief Magistrate's Court, the Court of Civil and Criminal Justice and the Petty Debt court. Otunba Payne was murdered in his residence in Lagos by an unknown assailant in 1906. His murder was never solved till date.

7. Odunayo Olagbaju: was a Nigerian politician who was an Osun State legislator. In December 2001, Odunayo Olagbaju was bludgeoned to death in broad day light in his Ile-ife home town, sparking riots in which at least five people were reported killed. His death may have been related to a bitter quarrel between governor Bisi Akande of Osun State and deputy governor Iyiola Omisore. Odunayo Olagbaju was a staunch supporter of Iyiola Omisore. The murder was followed a few days later by the killing of Bisi Akande's supporter, Bola Ige, the Justice Minister of Nigeria. After an emergency cabinet meeting, the Nigerian government deployed troops to prevent further violence.

8. Major Isaac Adaka Boro: (September 10, 1938 – May 9, 1968), fondly called "Boro", was a Nigerian nationalist, Ijaw, and soldier. He was one of the early pioneers of minority rights activism in Nigeria. An undergraduate student of chemistry and student union president(SUG President) at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, he left school to lead an armed protest against the exploitation of oil and gas resources in the Niger Delta areas which benefited mainly the federal government and Eastern region with capital in Enugu and nothing was given to his own people in the Niger Delta. He believed that the people of the area deserved a larger share of proceeds of the oil wealth, since the crude oil came from their land. He formed the Niger Delta Volunteer Force, an armed militia with members consisting mainly of his fellow Ijaw ethnic group. They declared the Niger Delta Republic on February 23, 1966 and fought with federal forces for twelve days before being defeated. Boro and his comrades were jailed for treason. However, the federal regime of General Yakubu Gowon granted him amnesty on the eve of the Nigerian civil war in May 1967. However he was killed in Rivers state on the 9th of May 1968 under mysterious circumstances as no one knows for sure how he was killed. He was just 29.

9. Alfred Rewane: Rewane's full name at birth was Ogbeyiwa Erewarone, he was born in Warri to the family of Jemide Erewarone. His father was a trader who was based in Agbor. He was a politician whose residence served as the venue for the formation of th NADECO political party. He was known as a major financier of the group which was vocal in its opposition to the military regime of Sani Abacha. He was murdered on October 6 1995 in his Ikeja residence.

10. Johnson Thomas Umunnakwe Aguiyi-Ironsi: (3 March 1924 – 29 July 1966) was a senior Nigerian military officer and the first Nigerian Military Head of State. He seized power in the ensuing chaos following the 15 January 1966 military coup, serving as the Nigerian Head of State from 16 January 1966 until his assassination on 29 July 1966 by a group of mutinous Northern army soldiers who revolted against his government in what was popularly called the July Counter Coup. The circumstances leading to Aguiyi-Ironsi death still remain a subject of much controversy in Nigeria. Some folks in Nigeria have it that he was killed by being tied to a car and dragged and thus, his body was later discovered in a nearby forest. No on knows for sure who killed him.

PoliticsRe: Akpabio: I Brought Emmanuel Udom From Lagos And Installed Him As Governor by foreshore(m): 3:11am On Dec 10, 2018
nairalaila:
Godswill Akpabio, the former governor of Akwa Ibom State who addressed an assembly to flag-off his senatorial election campaign and inauguration of Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District APC Campaign Council at Ukana, his country home in Essien Udim Local Government Area of the State on Sunday, stated that he brought Emmanuel Udom from Lagos and installed him as Governor of the state.

Akpabio further disclosed that Emmanuel Udom never had a membership card of any political party neither had he contested for any election on his own, before he (Akpabio) picked him up from Lagos and made him Governor.

Daily Post reported that the former Senate Minority Leader who said the All Progressives Congress, APC, would record landslide victory in the general elections in the State, added;

“I was shocked that Emmanuel whom I brought from Lagos and installed as a Governor even though he was not a member of the party on whose platform he stood election and become Governor, could call a world press conference to insult me.

He said, ‘’the electorate in the state would reciprocate the kind gesture of Mr. President Buhari by voting massively for him and all candidates of the APC in the state.’’

Akpabio who took a swipe at Governor Emmanuel over what he described as hypocritical campaign slogan tagged “only God”, said God cannot be mocked, noting that;

“Only God could have made it possible to make someone who was never a party member to become a governor.

“Only God could have made somebody who has never had a party card or know what is called ward to become a governor.

“Only God could have made someone who could not have stood election on his own even as a Councilor and win to be brought from somewhere and made Governor.

”Only God could have made a man who has never helped anyone to become anything to become governor.”

RomanceRe: 22-Year-Old Nigerian Man Dumped By 42-Year-Old Chinese Girlfriend (Photos) by foreshore(m): 4:51pm On Dec 07, 2018
ChangeIsCostant:
A young Nigerian man has been left heartbroken after he was dumped by his 42-year-old Chinese lover.

According to the 22-year-old Nigerian identified as Ejiblinks from Owerri, Imo state, his older lover dumped him after five months of dating because her family won't approve due to his nationality and age.

Despite being heartbroken, the young man still took to Facebook to declare love for her as he vowed to wait for her to come back into his life.

Read below what he shared online.

She came into my life sad, lonely and in need of a shoulder to lean on. I said I’d be there for her as a friend. So we talked. Though 3000 km apart, we still felt close.

Then she tells me she wants more than friendship but afraid of losing her, I couldn’t say I’d fallen for her already. I gave in and said I loved her too. I gave her my soul, my heart. Everything.

Five months of happiness. Then one day she simply said she couldn’t be mine. Her family wouldn’t approve. Our love wasn’t enough, am from Nigeria, and she is Chinese, am 22 and she 42.

She left, deactivating her Facebook and whatsapp. Coming back again twice more, I was more broken each time.

But I am still here, missing her. Every minute of everyday. I still love her, still cry for her, the first time I kissed her, once second to none. I have touched her hand, saw her in person, had fun with her, but I am still waiting. Not knowing where she is or how she’s doing.

Yet I’ll wait for her because I will love her forever. No one can replace her, up to now.

PoliticsRe: President Buhari Returns To Nigeria From Poland (Photos) by foreshore(m): 10:32am On Dec 06, 2018
Wisdomkosi:
President Muhammad Buhari has returned back to Nigeria from  Poland, where he participated in the opening of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Katowice.

President Buhari was spotted waving to his supporters.

While in Poland, the President delivered his national address at the 12-day meeting of COP24, and met with several world leaders . He also visited the impressive Nigerian pavilion at the climate summit.

President Buhari on Tuesday visited the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum, in Oświęcim, Poland where he paid tribute to Holocaust victims.

Before leaving the Museum, which included the Nazi concentration camps Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II-Birkenau, Buhari fielded questions from State House Correspondents traveling with him.

The president described those fanning embers of discord in Nigeria as ‘illiterates and ignorant’.

President Buhari held bilateral meeting with Swiss President Alain Berset, President of Poland, Andrzej Duda and the Prime Minister, Mateusz Morawiecki as well as his Austrian counterpart, Alexander Van der Bellen.

The Nigerian leader also met with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and both leaders followed up on their past discussions, during their last meeting in The Hague, Netherlands, in July, which centred on trade, investments and partnerships in agriculture.

The President welcomed the proposal by the Dutch Prime Minister to visit Abuja soon and promised that the Nigerian government would continue to provide a conducive business environment for existing and prospective Dutch investors.

President Buhari met with the Prime Minister of Estonia, Jüri Ratas.

The Prime Minister of the Northern European country sought Nigeria’s support on its bid for a non-permanent seat at the UN Security Council for 2020 to 2021.

Buhari also attended a town-hall meeting with Nigerians in Poland, a day after his arrival in the country, where he dismissed as wicked the cloning allegation against him, saying ‘‘It’s real me, I assure you. I will soon celebrate my 76th birthday and I will still go strong’’.

TravelRe: Lagos-Ibadan Railway: 2018 No Longer Feasible, Fixes New Date For Completion by foreshore(m): 10:23am On Dec 06, 2018
AutoReportNG:
Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, the minister of transportation, has directed the Chinese Civil Engineering Company (CCECC), the contractors handling the Lagos-Ibadan railway, to ensure that the train becomes operational before February 2019.

Amaechi said this on Tuesday during the monthly inspection of the Lagos-Ibadan rail project in Papalanto, Ogun state.

He said the contractors must ensure that the tracks and bridges were completed and the train must make transport sense.

“There must be train on the tracks before February. It doesn’t matter when, but there must be a train on the track that makes transport sense,” the minister said.

“What I mean by transport sense is that it must be able to carry passengers from Abeokuta if not up-to Ibadan, we have agreed that everybody must work towards it.

“The next inspection is on Dec. 18 and that is two weeks from now.

“Before we used to have it once in a month but now it will be twice in a month to ensure that, that is achieved.

“So, we will be back here to ensure that what we have agreed to today will be implemented. The work is progressing rapidly, the weather is no longer an issue, the elements were an issue before but now it is no longer an issue.

“You should know that on the 18th, we would have started campaign, the president has emphasised that we must build infrastructure.”

He said out of 10 bridges, only two was uncompleted, adding that before the next inspection on December 18, one must be completed.

Amaechi said his role as director-general of President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign won’t affect his work.

He said the president was determined to build infrastructure, stating that the monthly inspection would take place every two weeks to ensure progress on the project.

I think AK 47 is an outdated riffle. Anytime I see DSS officer, my heart just melt.

Why cant our military officers have those modern rifles used by US marines to fight Boko Haram.

Below is what our DSS use.
That's not true. That is the only sophisticated weapon the DSS has whereas the military have different assorted assault rifle depending on the task to be carried out.
For your information the military also uses the Travor.

Temporary release because he deserves at least a three year jail term for fake news and hate speech crimes.
The way he dishes fake news of fake boko haram attacks on Twitter you'll think he either leaves in Borno or is in the military. And not to mention other fake news he broadcast and the inciting words he uses.

There has to be a difference between free speech and hate speech. Even US and Europe prosecute people for such, and we think à fledgling democracy like ours can survive by tolerating hate speeches by the likes of Reno, FFK, El Rufai, etc? How does arresting somebody and charging him to court constitue human rights abuse ?
