PoliticsRe: Re; Nigerians In Diaspora Are Bitter. by FrankC3: 12:31pm On Oct 06, 2012
^^
At least those returnees diaspora who fought for our independence did not shoot arrows at Nigeria from abroad. They did not remind us of how we have sold our brothers to slave trade. They did not focus on our despicable cultural practices of capital punishment, witchcraft, killing of twins and human sacrifice. They rather focused on our strength, cultural diversity, and optimism that we shall rise from the dust of our then predicament. They did not even concentrate on insulting the British colonialists. They fought for a future not yet seen.

Contrast that with those of today who believe they have seen better societies and so, insult their home of birth. Awolowo, Zik and Bello, all of blessed memory, traveled abroad to tell the world that Nigeria is big enough to take care of herself. Contrast that to Sahara Reporter and most other NL posters who take an outpost with feigned white supremacists to paint the black world which Nigeria greatly represent in a terrible picture.

That, my friend, is the difference. And that was what that poster is angry with.

mankand: Make the house worth living for the investors first before telling us some bull crap here. Boko Haram doing their best, Kidnappers doing their best, Armed Robbers doing their thing.

To crown it all, Fellow Naira Landers, can you seup a business Afganistan as an Investor?
MTN will disagree with you. So will Etisalat, PZ, Orange Drugs, Alcatel, Huawei, Procter and Gamble, Nigeria Breweries and my humble self. Stop hating your country, stand up and make some money. It is not a crime.

Nigeria is just getting started. The business community understands what this means... Nigeria of tomorrow belongs to those who decide to take advantage of the opening opportunities today.

For me, I am looking critically at Agric product processing...Cassava flour processing support businesses precisely.

PoliticsRe: Jonathan Is Nigeria's Most Transparent Leader Wether U Lyk It Or Not by FrankC3: 1:41pm On Oct 05, 2012
I have asked the greatest noisemakers on this forum what the feeding budget (their favorite line) of President Obama, former President OBJ, Late President Yar'Adua, and even Gov Fashola is. I don't even know the feeding budget of my state governor or my local government chairman.

I am a firm supporter of President Jonathan's anti-corruption strategy which is a silver bullet- transparency in government. We know more about what goes on in government now, we have a President whose ability to isolate his ego while leading is legendary.

This guy is so powerful that he can bring down all the opposition channels, including replacing Tambuwal and the opposition parties and media houses but he rather chose to defend their right to insult him. They call him clueless but his methods are deep and engaging. He understands his powers as the president but uses them rarely and for the right purposes. He believes more in being loved that being feared. In democratic credentials, President Jonathan has an A and this trickles down in his government approach to every other issue. Look at N5000 note, Bakassi, Budget presentation to NASS issues.

We are used to jungle justice but unfortunately, OBJ style did not work and we have a democratic President who believes that ONLY the law court can sentence someone to prison. President Jonathan is building one of the strongest and best democratic models and this should be appreciated.

As i will advice the political scavengers who believe that GEJ must go down for them to rise, this President have equipped all of us with the ability to ask government questions. They should allow this to percolate and not take it to mean a license to insult their country and President.

Foreign AffairsRe: Mitt Romney wins Obama in first US Presidential Debate by FrankC3: 1:44pm On Oct 04, 2012
The good thing about this debate was that many people tuned in to hear Obama speak but heard Romney instead and he did not sound as bad as Democrats have made him look. They so lowered expectation about Romney that his presentation sounded so excellent. And by the way, i was more convinced by him than Obama. But the debate is still on...

PoliticsRe: Nigeria Ranked 2nd To US In The Fight Against Corruption- Transparency Intl. by FrankC3: 1:50pm On Oct 02, 2012
Demdem: The first thing is for the Retardeen to make up his mind by leading by example. telling me on live TV that he doesnt give a damn does not suggest that he truly wants to fight corruption. work towards eliminating the immunity clause. By the way, someone that consumes approximately a billion naira worth of food in a financial year in the midst of abject poverty and spent millions daily on newspapers etc can never fight corruption truthfully.

When this is done and the retardeen still needs more advise, am at his service. Nigeria will be great again.
Let me assume for a moment that you are an anti corruption crusader who does not give a damn (at least all of us have something we don't give a damn about) any political party, please, let us pay a visit to Lagos, the nearest approximation of Nigeria in composition. Did Fashola declare his assets publicly? And while at it, please, tell how much Gov Fashola's feeding budget for 2012 is. You may also find out whose job it is to remove immunity clause. Tell us who represents you at HoR and who your Senator is and how you have made your case to them to push for a bill to remove immunity clause.

Transparency is the first and most important tool in the fight against corruption. If you want to know how to fight corruption with institutions, please tell us what Yar'adua and OBJ feeding budget is like. OBJ's methods failed because the battle was very personalized. Structures need to be being put in place to make corruption unattractive. We have not obviously done enough in the fight against corruption, just like all aspect of our national life but to claim that corruption is higher now is simply not true. Rather, we know more about what formerly happens behind the curtains now and this is what i see as the real anti-corruption war, driven by the common man like Demdem and Frank-c and not from the Presidential Villa only that Demdem chose to battle the guys that put him incharge of this battle.

Pukkah: Abi! How does this improve the standard of living of Nigerians?

How many of these guys know the difference between the growth rate of an economy and the increase or improvement in the standard of living of the citizens of the country?
It is on this note that the issue raised by the poster below is pertinent:
Between January and August 2012 alone, Nigeria earned N5.5 trillion! Yes, N5.5 trillion. http://tribune.com.ng/index.php/news/48497-nigeria-earned-n55trn-in-8-months
Yes, the economy is growing (in their pockets) but has the standard of living of Nigerians improved? How has it translated into development?
If only you understood the meaning of sarcasm. I don't understand how an enlightened mind will argue the implication of major economic/development indicators all in an effort to spite the government. If you can't measure it, you can't control it but some folks prefer to measure temperature with their fingers since according to them, 'thermometer is invented by the white man to control how the black man feels heat'. I think this is the argument of the people dismissing Nigeria appearance on the radar of positive economic development.

All the lies and misinformation going on today to spite GEJ rubs off on us all. People hate MTN for making too much profit but are ready to dismiss power sector reforms that will likely throw up another MTN. I only pity the uninformed who listen to some of you because they stand to lose out in the long run. I pity the unemployed who mock the cassava bread policy with agents of some political parties. I pity those who chose to stand on the sideline while Nigeria move forward. They hate MTN for making profit, GEJ for being the President, JTF for killing 'innocent' Boko Haram, Otedola and Dangote for having too much money...they hate everything coming from GEJ and his government even when it is meant to serve their children interest.

You have been corrected in some other threat on this your position that JTF claimed to have killed Shekau. JTF never claimed that, rather some media agencies reported that Abu Quaqa was killed. I know that this misinformation is very deliberate and aimed at diverting our attention from our real enemies- Boko Haram.

PoliticsRe: Jonathan's 52nd Independence Day Speech by FrankC3: 12:56pm On Oct 01, 2012
I just pity the innocent readers here who have no political affiliation or other interests to protect because they will be the ones to be deceived. The wheel of change is moving surely. Opportunities are opening up. People with balls are opening businesses and making great returns. Real Nigerians (not people that complain and insult) are making progress. It started like this when Telcos came in. People were busy insulting government for selling NITEL but smart people were lining up to provide support business for the them. Today, we have mega recharge card business dealers, Telco Subcontractors, cleaners and security companies providing support services. I can assure you that none of them spent a minute to contemplate the negative.

Now a few checklist:

Do you have more hours of power supply in your area now?
How long did it take you to clear your goods from the port in 2010 and how long does it take you now?
What is the verdict of Transparency International on Nigeria anti-corruption war?
What are international business men saying about Nigeria investment climate now?
For farmers, have you observed any improvement in procurement of seedlings, fertilizer and machinery?
For people with skills in oil and gas, do you observe any change in available opportunities and technology transfer as a result of local content?
For journalists, how do you compare your access to government information now compared to October 2012?

I encourage fact checkers to go to town with Mr. President's speech and come back to give us feedback. That is what i will call doing something, you may even make a living as a fact checker and help improve this country.

Alxmyr: Can't believe a Nigerian can open a thread like this on Nairaland.
The Op must be one of the frustrated, hopeless and useless area boy we have to endure in this country.
If only you are a 'progressive', you would have seen how wonderful threads like this is. Actually, you are 'hiding your head in the sand' by not insulting your country with them. In fact you are not really an 'intelligentsia'.

These very people have contributed nothing to this country. They choose to fire cheap shots from internet against their country. Young entrepreneurs who choose to do something have a different testimony about Nigeria. Our brave men in JTF, SSS and other young professionals, possibly younger than this @OP who contribute daily to Nigerian cause can never open thread like this. If they hate Nigeria so much as they claim, why not move on and leave her for some of us who have chosen to see something good about our country.

I agree with you. Most critics today are out to do malice or have some interests they want to project or protect. All these criticism and noise is not borne out of love for Nigeria, far from it. If not, why should people so resist good news coming from a country they love.

These same people will be happy to tell us to neglect the good news about Nigeria coming from Blair but should accept the bad news coming from Brandson. They feel that power supply must be 24/7 and run year round for atleast 10 years before they accept that we have achieved power stability while maintaining their position that Boko Haram flash attacks in some part of the North has made the whole of Nigeria so insecure. They even believed the testimony of Boko Haram that FG is insincere about dialogue despite the fact that Boko Haram might have killed their close relatives. Imagine, a Nigerian believing the testimony of Abu Quaqa against that of the SSS. They believe Sahara reporters malicious journalism but will insult Thisday if it post positive indicators about our economy.

They hate MTN for making much profits in Nigeria but advice investor against coming in because Nigeria is unprofitable, insecure and corrupt. These are our real enemies in this country. They uncharitably insult our President because a little know President somewhere in the globe gives out a portion of his salary to charity. Now, make no mistake about it, they will always come out to claim that they are gainfully employed and are 'big and busy' men, yet they have not told us what percentage of their own salary goes to charity every month.

Ask them about the community service they do, participation in monthly sanitation exercise, responsibility to their parents, wives, children or community and they will insult the President in return. They want change so dearly but that change rather not be them, it must be Mr. President!
PoliticsRe: Petroleum Minister Books Hotel Worth $8,000 Per Night by FrankC3: 8:12am On Sep 29, 2012
If not for pedestrian thinking, how can one believe a source that 'reliably informed' him with 'extreme accuracy' that he knows where Nigeria's President stays while on foreign trip or a highly ranked hospital disclosing the medical details of their patient without authorization when same can be difficult to get even here in Nigeria.
SR takes journalism to new low each day. They even had the effrontery to 'reliably inform' us that an affair is brewing between the president and one of his ministers. This is simply disgusting to any right thinking mind.

I think it is just a natural extension of what folks do here on NL, eager to malign and demean our country, insult our President, Senate, Judiciary and every thing that represent us as a people to the outside world. It has even gone so bad that foreigners who say something positive about us are now beign insulted for daring. UK tabloid can read the mood clearly and we are having uncharitable reports about our cities. But don't worry, if you want to be a progressive a smart Nigerian, just insult everything that represent us as a people. It is the best mood in town right now.

I will rather ask who rejected PDP choice of a SWner as House of Rep speaker and aligned with Northerners to establish Tambuwal just to ensure that there is ONLY one Yoruba National Leader? Who is isolating SW from the rest of the country by constantly ensuring that national cooperation doesn't happen? Who was ridiculing the FG for demanding that FG and LASG work together for the betterment of the SW? I think some other zones have walked that road before and are wiser now.

Olaolufred: I differ from your depositions, while you have some points so close to the truth, there are also some that are more like fiddle with no base.
If Blair's decision had been directly against his own people, what do you think the reactions of UK citizens would have been?
Blair was not right on his decision over Iraq invasion. Fine. But the citizen had bore their mind on it.
Here in your own Africa, Govt's action are not directed at fighting another country. But at killing their own citizen which they are obligated by law to protect.
The evil they sowed is the reason they want to die in power.
If they do well to serve their people, they will be praised.
If I may ask you this question: Could his bid for 2015 be because he is fearing the unknown?
If no, then why?
If yes, then his conscience is judging him as not serving the people truly.
While i respect your opinion on this topic, fully understanding its complexity, i wish to state that history is replete with most developed nations taking tough decisions that changed their futures. Most tough decisions are never accepted by the masses who are moved more by emotions, so it is not new if the 'masses' protest fuel subsidy removal. The austerity measures in Greece and Spain are not very popular presently but that does not make it a bad policy and the government is pushing through with it, despite the protests. In Nigeria here, most people accepted policies like fuel subsidy removal but their argument is that it is ill timed.

Truth be told, few men, including you, will reject the temptation to server for another four years when the law is on their side. Heck! this guy is just less than 2 years into a four year tenure and you are talking about 2015 and conscience.

Africa must learn to accept the existence of error margin in leadership judgment of her leaders. This should not be punished. It is what makes them human. They should rather focus on ensuring that men with appetite for blood don't unleash genocide on their people.

I will rather neglect your uncouth reference to the President because i want to address something I feel is of concern. On one hand, you confessed you don't care about government policies and program because they have for far too long yielded no concrete result on ground. On the other hand, you want to neglect what your sincere logic would have seen as a result of REAL WORK and you are demanding for policies and programs.

No wonder ACN believed in scientific rigging. I think you are rigging your own logic scientifically.

For them, any and everything GEJ must be shut down, even when it is beneficial to their generation unborn. People go through internet every day scouting for bad news about their fatherland and when they find one, they will push to make it front page on NL. These same folks are the ones angry with Tony Blair and Ms Rice for making positive comments about their country of birth. They will prefer if the Blair had said that Nigeria is a failed state and Rice mention that TI made a mistake not to have named Nigeria the most corrupt country. This kind of news would have served their purpose of insulting their President and casting slurs on their country for few minutes fame on NL as the latest 'progressive' in the bloc.

The success of electoral reform is no ruse. We saw it in Imo, Edo, Nassarawa and Bayelsa States. Nigeria reserve is being built again. Government is getting methodical about release of funds and putting in terrific structures within the fabrics of civil service to make sure that NLC members get less corrupt, yes, because it is obvious that politicians CAN NOT steal without the active connivance of NLC members- the civil service. These things are happening before our very eyes. 271 high profile investors lined up for our country's power sector privatization because they do not want to make the confession of Vodacom in the future. The wheel of change may be slow, but surely ongoing and it is not cosmetic. Is this enough? No! Do we need more? Yes!! But are we making progress under GEJ, against what the beneficiaries of the status quo will want us to believe, the answer is a resounding YES!!! This was the very thing a foreigner said about our country, what Tinubu and IBB refused to say, rather went behind to be part of the change while deceiving their followers about the true situation of things.

This was exactly what Tony Blair was saying. We have to appreciate the efforts of men and women like you, our faceless, nameless JTF officers, our SSS men and women who are presently probably undercover in enemy territory trying to keep you and me safe. This should be the Nigerian spirit, not insulting your country with impunity and even insulting a foreigner who refused to insult your country with you.

You seem to be driven more by what you think could go wrong with its implementation. Now, how does criticizing those same policies you 'appreciate' for non performance even before they go their full life cycle make you a better Nigerian. And for the sake of my children and your children, don't you think that the best we could do for our country of birth is to DO SOMETHING in whatever capacity to make things better instead of complaining about the potential of policies to go wrong.

These guys on investment drive for our country are doing something. Now what else are you doing apart from telling them how they are going to fail?
