You going to have to wait for another 7-10years before the next NLNG AC

Very nice points. . Nobody is saying money is the ONLY driving factor..

Want to ask you something. . You said you can move to a company that pays you 50% of what you currently earn.. not just by saying it, sincerely tell us how many times you've applied and followed up with such companies?

Then, what makes a 'good ' company and what do you classify as a 'better' alternative? How do know nlng is a better company when you haven't tasted the waters? If nlng doesn't have money and consequently unpopular, would you still classify them as a good company? What convinces you that you would hv career fulfillment there even though you haven't worked with them? How did you know they would be better than your current place of work, therefore tendering your application?
Also, why did you classify going to Saudi as an alternative to nlng? Why not some other smaller companies? Or such companies don't offer career fulfillment? undecided

Everyone wants something big and better because they offer better packages and exposures . . Smaller companies can't do that because of finance. ...
So many questions you have asked I dunno if I'd be able to answer all but lemme give it a try. Personally I'd rather set up a business and earn 50% less than apply to another company and eat the same shit for that less pay. So no I'm not applying to any other company that will pay me less.

A good company can only be determined from her core values. Which forms the basis of its policies and mode of doing business. Now most corporate organizations bank on this and put up edifying values but truly they practice the opposite and not until you taste the waters will you find out. But then I know Nlng is a good company because of what the Nlng staff themselves have said about the company meeting their personal and professional goals and giving them career fulfillment. Also looking at what they r not saying its a known fact that only about 5% of the 2007 GT set have left the company. Such low employee turnover can only mean one thing....NLNG are keepers!

I used Saudi Aramco as an example for @ceetee because he was of the opinion that money is everyone's major driving force so I knew for sure that applied to him. If for example I wanted to give such instance for someone else whose desire for joining Nlng is say making an impact in the nation to benefit ordinary Nigerians I'd say maybe he gets an instant ministerial appointment....get the drift wink

My dear there’s no need to overflog this issue. I’m just encouraging a discourse, no need to attack.

I never said anything about ONLY money driving anyone (u even called it a fact, amazing)

Also “earning well” is very relative.

I know they are a zillion reasons one might have for leaving their jobs. That’s not the point

The question I asked is “If NLNG pays as much as ur current employer will u stick around here for 2+ years?” Even if u feel they are not treating you professionally.
Kindly explain “people see Nlng as hope for a better future hence they will wait for as long as they need to until it comes through for them.”
Don’t know how many people here will subscribe to ur “AS LONG AS THEY NEED TO”
So if this exercise lingers for 5+ years people will still wait. Why is that? Because they want to make an impact to the society pls let’s not deceive ourselves jare.

Not everyone is like that that’s why I said 99.9% (i.e. 0.1% might).
Sorry bruv I didn't mean to sound rash and my intention is to have a discourse and not attack you personally.

To answer your question I'd personally leave my current place of work to a place that will even pay me 50% less. Yeah u heard me right. That's to help you imagine that what I earn already isn't that bad. That Nlng will give a double of my current earnings is just to me an icing on the cake.
When I signed my offer letter where I'm currently I felt like I was going to be very comfy and happy here cos they offered over 5times what I was earning before. Alas 3years down the line I realized that I was not getting any career fulfillment. I needed a fresh start with a diff company. That was what drove me far in this exercise. I know of a colleague from my current company who applied with me for this GT recruitment but he didn't get beyond the shl stage. This guy was the best graduating student of his set in one of the top universities in the country but yet he didn't get past the shl. I know personally that he didn't make it because he his career was going the way he expected. When he got the regret mail he happily moved on. Whether he enters NLNG or not that guy is already made. Infact with better investment decisions he will be richer than any Nlng employee that squanders his finances. Even if he is not richer he will be financially bouyant and can hold his own even around Nlng big boys. So you see that when you have something better than money driving you definitely you will be more dogged in your pursuit.

When I said as long as they need to I simply mean this. Even you that feel like you so value this Nlng will jump ship if a better offer comes your way. If tomorrow you wake up and find the head HR Saudi Aramco chyking you on LinkedIn with a bloody offer to resume next week I'm sure your next post here will be a bid farewell. Same goes for each and everyone of us. We r doomed to wait for NLNG because none of us have got a better alternative but that's not to say that such opportunities may not come.

My point is we all have our stories which if possible someday we can decide to share here but until you know a persons story you can't tell what his driving force is.

Wish you well my brother. Pardon me again if any of my post come to you as an attack.

Asides the unemployed, 99.9% of those saying it’s not about the money well NA LIE.

There are other avenues to impact the society, so why NLNG?

If NLNG pays as much as ur current employer will u stick around here for 2+ years? I doubt strongly. Even when the offer comes u might even reject it to prove a point. But…..with considerably higher pay, the story changes.
You are so wrong my brother. The fact that its only the money that drives u doesn't mean all are in the same boat. Some people earn well already in their current job but what draws them to Nlng may be that they feel unappreciated, or they desire the fresh challenge of the oil and gas industry. For some still they may be running away from a vindictive boss..we all know how many of how naija mgrs can frustrate young talents, for others still they want a good company where they can come back to from the diaspora. Whatever be the driving force, people see Nlng as hope for a better future hence they will wait for as long as they need to until it comes through for them.
The fact that the company pays well is an added advantage to us. If only money drives you then I doubt if you will ever be happy at the job because money I know doesn't ever satisfy. That's why the likes of dangote and bill gates will never rest. grin

I'm with you on this money ish. Were I work I'm practically on shift 24/7. I've been woken up in the dead of the night to resolve an issue. I've been at the airport seeing my parents off while on a 4 hour call resolving an issue.(my mum, bless her soul, was compelled to drag the phone from my ears and terminate the calls). I've been under the highest pressure of my life with emails flying from Zurich to the US that my operations were delaying a multinational from meeting their monthly target. So yes I have got some of the most brutal experience but no shish. That money IS imporrant
Of course money is important that's why its the base driving force. But according to maslow it is the least effective form of motivation and is most prevalent in third world or developing countries whereby poverty and illiteracy is high. Oops we r Nigerians after all (if care is not taken we don slide back to fourth world), no wonder na d pepper all man eye dry after. Kai....Maslow was so right!

I don't think anyone prefers working without earning much. The fact that one would say money isn't the primary reason for getting up in the morning shouldn't really be interpreted to mean he would settle for meagre pay for his/her work (no one does that). That's totally inaccurate.
Maybe it could be near the mark in Nigeria where the slave mentality is still paramount, (I say slave mentality in the sense that the employer kinda treats the employee like he owns his/her soul) money could be the all in all in such situations but that kinda explains a lot of the wrongs that go on in Nigeria.

The employer knows the employee works simply for the pay and cannot wait to clock out each day so he stifles payday looking for new ways to screw the employee over cos the employee subconsciously doesn't see his/herself-worth in terms of ability/input but in terms of money and sees his/her employer as the fountain where the money comes from instead of vice versa; so as a result having the self confidence to stand one's ground in the professional setting is as probable as getting struck by lightning three times in one day and at three different places, the self confidence to improve on one's ability isn't thr cos the employer swindles 1 time and again so as to keep one in a state of dependence (slave). We only see few cases where some breakout.
Even in companies like Sch...., Hall..., Exx.. as Nigerians you all earn nowhere near what an American working for the same company in America earns, it's only in NLNG that i observed that Nigerians there earn very close to the industry's average (note the average?).

That said, back then I knew Shell guys that basically live on their salaries month after month, these are sophomore guys that were earning at least 1.5m basic salary, the only investing some do is the monthly contribution to their pension which basically bears no fruit when compared to say a money-market fund-mutual fund, some do the fixed deposit thing at the bank but is that really investing? So the over-qualified guy earning peanuts lives paycheck to paycheck, the qualified guy earning major money (in his mind's eye o) also lives from paycheck to paycheck with little plans of investing.
Both have the mindset tht money is everything, both do next to nothing to keep the fountain flowing for that which they see as "everything".
I like this lady kiss. Your analysis just portrays what I have in mind. And the conviction with which you say it makes me cringe. #Ironlady

I watched a TED talk recently about motivation and what you said is truly spot on, if i remember correctly, the guy closed with the example of Microsoft's Encarta that employed thousands of experts and professionals to give content to that software, and Wikipedia which basically curates what it's given free of charge and even sometimes relies on donations to stay up.
Today Wikipedia has totally eclipsed Encarta (which is basically a discontinued software).
So if the money as a motivation argument was so solid how come it didn't work there, where the same experts and pros moved from Encarta that paid them for content to Wikipedia that takes money from them in the form of donations to the platform, you know?
That's a very good example to buttress my point. Money is good...we all love it but it sure won't give you satisfaction on any job.

Guy im sure u have heard about maslows hierarchy of needs. Starting out yea money is the driving force for motivation but there comes time when other things will be far more important than money. You will get there pretty soon. Besides we r all wired differently. Some people don't need to earn so much to feel satisfied in life while some will gather the whole world and still they feel empty inside.

Kai....see vexations grin. It's cool to know that you all r human after all cos this kind wait can take patience out of even the most pious man. The truth is we r all suffering this wait. All those shouting move on r only deceiving themselves. Nlng did her homework well and they have succeeded in committing us to this idea that they have something better to offer. But I wont blame Nlng because the system in our country allows employers of labour to have this sense of arrogance. This erroneous thinking that they r doing employees or prospective employees a favor by offering u a job. Imagine someone coming here and talking about first salary. Even our youth have dat warped thinking that the money will bring u satisfaction. Many of us have been working for over half a decade and money is the least motive for us wanting the Nlng job. How much sef Dem wan pay wet person no go hear word? grin. Na joke oo...money dey important sha but it is not my driving factor for wanting Nlng. Some of us feel that we r not growing in our current org. Some r not being well rewarded for what they do. Others require an environment where they can make positive impact in the society. This r bigger deals.
To the Nlng mgt I have this to say. When u decided to embark on this recruitment remember what u had in mind. I guess it is because you needed capable hands to run your business in the future. When we saw your call we went to your website to study what you stood for. There we saw you using such terms as caring, excellence etc nd these words were enough to endear you to us. We felt that what you stood for is in total agreement with what we desire so working for you will be a win-win for both parties. You gathered us all from all parts of the world and over time you have sifted us through rigorous testing and competency evaluations and now you have in your hands the best of the best. The frustrations here is a testament to the fact that those you have on hand are far from mediocres. It's not enough to these minds that you will pay "armed robber" salary. They simply want you to live out the meaning off your creed. The time to act is now. End this insufferable wait and call ur select now when they r still fresh and motivated. When they still believe in your values. It is also not good for your image in future because we now live in an information age. Do you want to be remembered as the company that took 3+ years to recruit GTs. That isn't a feat to be proud of. We have all done our bit. Now its your turn to make the next move!

It's really been very difficult for all of us but we have held on this far...as we draw to the conclusion of this heart wrenching recruitment process I urge us all to never forget the lessons we learned all through this. For one I've learnt that the value of this Nlng job that made us exercise so much patience, effort and zeal to land this job is that which we ascribed to it. We need to also discover the important things of our existence as well...those things that really have true values...things that we can call our treasures and apply the same or even double effort, zeal and patience in order to achieve it. In all lets not forget the role of the almighty in getting us this far....even for those that don't believe in God we can't deny that there is an air of providence that has brought us to this point.
This recruitment has become more than just a recruitment. It came big and like a raging tornado sucked us all in and for 3 years now we have been whirling inside the hopes and dream of a better life in Nlng. This past three years have had its toll on all of us even if any choose to deny it. There have been opportunities lost and forgone, careers ended, hopes dashed great despair and endurance in suffering. Do not forget all these things once you cross into the island. I believe we will come out of this wiser, stronger and better men and women.

I salute u all my comrades. Onward onward we march!

NLNG, make your move.

Despite all the warnings that QMD1215 may be a hoax some peeps still allowed themselves to be frustrated to the point of calling out others for choosing to be careful as to how they chose to divulge sensitive information. We all should chill....the wait is excruciatingly painful I admit and is enough to drive anyone nuts. We should only blame ourselves for needing this nlng job so badly. Maybe it is life that put us all in this position and surely there will be deep lessons to learn. But let's not burn bridges and forsake the bond of solidarity because we have to wait a little longer.
@forkadict, @scarletdp, @ceetee and @ prelinctus(the guy we all love to loathe grin) you are all hommies alright and I'm sure neither of you means to hurt the other. Believe me, u aren't bugging ppl with ur musings..many folks would like to know the answers to those questions. The way I see it is simple though. Do the stats really matter? If u got into NLNG tomorrow, would u be as keen to knw how the stats were juggled? Same applies if u don't get in (u can say the customary "God forbid" here.) The probable reason u crave those clarifications right now is to aid u gauge how optimistic u should be....which in my opinion does more harm than good cos that mail was as bland as it gets. The pseudo-importance of the mail had nothing to do with the mail itself but was due to the regret mails that were sent. So pls relax...try to put it outta ur mind and move on... while u still believe in your Jah's undeserved kindness. smiley
