Advice is needed.
I am still awaiting PPR.
I have a first degree in Elect eng. and I have worked for telecom companies as Field Engineer for 4 years. I am single. I want to ask the seniors in the house what the best option to settle down in Canny.
1. Enroll in Msc in a canny university and work alongside then find better job after graduation.
2. Find a job immediately or register for EIT and try to integrate.
No one has a crystal ball to see the future. but the first step is to get your PPR, then you are entitled to domestic tuition fees just in case you want to study, you are also eligible to some funds and loans as a PR which you have to pay back later. I don't know if you want to start like this.

As for jobs yeah once u are PR u can apply for most jobs online if you have the skills, and from there you can build more skills and get a better job if needed.

THE important thing might be your finance now, Because in Canada the bills don't pay themselves embarassed if u can come to Canada with like 20K$ upwards u can afford to go to uni and do a masters get a part time job and cope for the duration of your M.Sc. The option of Loan is also there

The most important thing is your PR because you are not restricted by a visa..u can start the masters after 4 months u get a dream job u can live as easy as ABC.

Cheers

Please is it true that it is risky or illegal to post permanent residency cards through DHL or otherwise...for those that plan doing a short stay.

May be the best option is to get ETA if you want to come back to Canada without your PR card, highest you pay like 50-70$.

Just want to confirm if you can DHL PR card to someone.

This is specific to outside Canada ..cos mine was sent to me from Saskatchewan and there was no P

Hi guys!! Please I need your assistance. I booked Ethiopia airline from Lagos to Toronto with a stop over at Addis Ababa. On getting the itinerary, I saw stop 1- Addis Ababa to Dublin, stop 2 - Dublin to Toronto. There was no layover in Dublin. My question is, do I need an Ireland transit visa for such a trip? (I don't have one).
Since I wasn't too clear on the itinerary, I contacted the agency and the service agent didn't seem to understand, then she canceled the already paid booking. If you have an answer, kindly reply, it's urgent.
Thanks.
you don't need, have replied your email like 3 times...

This argument on UK vs. Canada is becoming redundant. I don't know why folks who live in the UK will have mouth to compare it with standard of living in Canada. If una like UK why don't y'all stay there. grin
I lived in the UK for quite a while before moving to Canada and I can say for free that the standard of living in Canada is better than ANY part of the U.K. I've lived in Scotland and England, so I can't really say for Northern Ireland grin. But all this comparison is played out. Whether rent and bus pass is cheaper doesn't count. It's like comparing living in Nigeria with Ivory Coast lol. We all know your average UK person is STINGY and counts every penny before they spend it. £20 is like $100 to a UK person. In fact I remember my single days, dating in the UK...guys will spend £20 on Nandos dinner for you and will be acting like they put your entire family on payroll. Not until I moved to North America, first date with my husband.....Oga's spent $300 on fine dining and was still asking me if I want to go see a movie, I knew that levels had changed grin.....All these 2 bedrooms in W Midlands for £300-400 cannot be compared, quality of life is definitely better in Canada. How many people have cars in the UK? The ones that do, drive the Vauxhall like it's a beemer LOL. Class system!
And the menial jobs you get in Canada is faaaar better than menial jobs in UK. One thing is there's dignity in labor in Canada and one can live a very good quality of life and still have the luxury of little trips in summer. UK folks are stuck in a class system, so Gold help you you work in McDonalds in the UK....you have failed in life! Even when I was about to enter undergrad in the UK, my A levels school had Universties that were on a black list. Basically you can't apply to those "low class unis" if you want to graduate from the A level school. We had to look at The Times 100 to select schools in the top 30, all because of class system.
Canada is different, no one cares what school you attend, all they care about is are you certified? Please let's quit derailing the thread with the comparisons. If you love the UK, stay there and don't compare and contrast with Canada. Or open UK Advantages thread undecided

*end of rant*....*runs away* grin
Oga's spent $300 on fine dining and was still asking me if I want to go see a movie, I knew that levels had changed ...Knock Out Punch grin

* living .
Things are far cheaper in the Uk as compared to Canada even when the £ was stronger than 1.65 cad. Comparatively, rent is cheaper, food is cheaper and transportation is also way cheaper.
Wooow where in the UK may be I should move back.

Decent one bedroom is like 800 pounds that like 1300 cad compared to 900-1000 in canada

Bus pass zone 1-4 is 180 pounds that 300 cad.. compared to 120 in canada

Cost of leaving is also higher in Canada as compared to the Uk. So I guess it balances out in the end.

To God be the glory great things he has done.

Arrived MMIA at about 9:30am, 29th Sept and proceeded to weigh my bags. My bags were overweight, had 9 in all. The staff in charge of weighing asked me to share the excess load in a 10th bag since we are a family of 5. I bought Ghana-Must-go and shared the excess weight into it. I proceeded to check-in. The lady in charge of check in refused the 10th bag saying I have an infant and she's only entitled to one luggage. No problem, I paid for excess luggage ($160). Moved to immigration and all that. Had to go identify luggage a second time before boarding. All passengers on Egypt air must do this. Left Lagos at about 1:45pm. We arrived at Cairo at about 8:30pm.
The waiting period at Cairo was soon over and time came to check-in again. Check in took longer than usual and flight didn't leave until 2:15am, 30 mins after the scheduled time.

The flight to Toronto was smooth. About 11 hrs in all. The bulk of the time was spent sleeping. Landed at Toronto airport at about 7:15am. The declaration form didnt go round on the plane so it was completed at the airport. First point of call was border security, only question there was how much cash I had and since it was less the CAD10,000, moved to immigration. The officer there collected our COPR, asked for my Canadian address if I have already, waited for him to process our COPR and we were welcomed to Canada. From there to pick our baggages, went through customs. I had filled the accompanying goods form before leaving Lagos but I couldn't locate it. The officer asked what food are we carrying which I answered spaghetti. He asked whether it's cooked, answer is no. Asked if we have beef or any dairy product, and he asked us to go. It's worth noting that some people's bags were searched. By the time we were done, I had missed my connecting flight of 10:05am to Winnipeg. Not to worry the next flight for 12 noon. Joined the flight. Flight was for 2 hrs. Arrived Winnipeg at about 1:30pm Winnipeg time. Winnipeg is one hour behind Toronto presently.
My advise to those coming, pls minimise your hand luggage if you have little kids. Also if you are using Ghana must go as check in bags, pls ensure its wrapped properly. If you are also using boxes that you have used for a few years, pls have a rethink. I had two of such boxes. I just thank God the things in it are intact. The boxes were a write off when we got here.
In all, to God be the glory.
Where you given your SIN at Toronto airport or you have to apply at Winnipeg?

Our plan is to do short landing of about 2 weeks.

Scope is bank account and SIN. Since its a short stay, was considering Airbnb but just occurred to me that it may not suffice for proof of address.

Can someone please help clarify this so we can adjust plans. Thanks.
Short Landing of two weeks, or 2 months , you cant leave canada without your PR Card, its not advisable..once you land at least someone needs to get the PR card cos ur visa will be cancelled on arrival. Consider that too

I won't even lie, if this Canadian thing work, and I have to go, I will be scared small o..

At least married people have each other.

Me I'm a bit worried, how do Nigerian meet other single people in Canada?

Moving to a new country where everyone is going to be struggling to adjust and start life afresh, what time will people have to socialize? (Single people that is)

Apart from POF ish initially, this is one of the reasons I have been dragging on following through with this canada waka. Feel better knowing there are other people that feel something similar.
Lool I can understand you perfectly , but be honest with your self if you are an introvert in Naija and single, coming to Canada will make it worse..the culture here is not like naija in times of relating with people(you cant just see a very fine girl in the bus stop and go chat her up that is creepy to them ) and the loneliness can be real..

In summary its 80 percent about you, if you did not have a relationship all this while in Naija, its not Canada's fault..and relationship is all about responsibilities in naija most youths under 30 earning less than 150k a month its hard to think of relationship..so that is why you want to come to canada in the first place to be have a better economic life.

So for the good news its not over you can build relationships here, naija churches , universities too you will see single girls you can mingle with and if you are open minded there are other African nationalities here like Ghanaian's etc then there are also Asians, Europeans

So if you major fear is about the culture its understandable, but all in all there is hope if you willing to work it

Another issue is when u are OK in Canada u can hook up with someone from naija some way somehow and sponsor are to come here , if you cant handle their culture here.

so what culture should you be worried about , personal beliefs and lifestyle..you see someone tell you straight she is an aethist, so if you marry her hmmm no church for your children, other funny beliefs like 420 friendly(cannabis smoker), tattoos, drinking and partying lifestyle, not much submission, and also they can wake up tomorrow and say am no more doing..

but it all its worth the risk.

cheers

True, but it distorts the budget..except u just put it in the plan.

but the most important thing is working...am new here so at least I don't even think of converting to naira anymore.

Imagine you paid 2600 tax on a car if you think of the conversion...............

Lol trust me, I know exactly what you mean. I had a hard time adjusting in Canada when I moved from the UK. I couldn't get over the tax thing. You see $20 on the shelf, you get to the till and they tell you $23.50. I'm like can't you just add the tax and display it on the shelf so when I see the price, I know if I can afford it or not? grin
On the real though, if you have lived in the UK, especially South England and paid rent/bought a house.....surviving in Canada will be a BREEZE! You'll find Canada cheap. You are spending Eliza's head grin
The HST thing is another issue I had , cos i also lived in UK.
the annoying part is it is for every single item, even if u buy a new car of 20K and u see the HST am sure it will hurt a bit.
I think Alberta has the lowest, its 13 percent in Ontario and even more in Quebec

Hello All,
Greetings to all the Elders in the house. I am Nicole and currently work as an IT Business Analyst in an Investment House. I am Female and 31. I have a master degree from one of the top 10 schools in the UK, and first degree in Computer Science and Law. I've worked as a BA for 5 years with ITIL , CBAP and other certifications under my belt. While my fiancée works in a Bank in Treasury. His first degree is in an Political Science but he's worked in the Treasury arm of the bank for about 3 years. Now my dilemma is , how feasible would it be for him to get a job? Since we are both considering relocating. He's an amazing man but sometimes when I remember that his line of work does not sell as fast as IT , I get discouraged about settling down permanently with him. I feel because I have worked with IT professionals for most of my working life, I believe such skills are more in demand. Asides the job thingy, my fiancée is one of the most amazing and selfless individuals ive ever met.

We are considering getting married in October 2018
Hi are you asking a question or talking about your profile?

so your years of experience and Certifications (CBAP and ITIL) will give you a big edge.

As for MSC in one of the top schools in UK it doesn't count much, so what stage are you in preparation to come to Canada , there is an express entry thread that can help you. Cos it seems like you haven't even gotten ITA yet (I could be wrong).

There are lots of opportunities in Canada and your fiance can also get a good job or switch career path.

No, unless you got PR through Quebec CSQ programme, you can't settle in Quebec with your PR obtained via FSW. You can land, process entry in Ottawa and settle anywhere in Canada except Quebec if you got your PR through Federal ITA. If you got your PR through Provincial Nomination then you can settle only in your nominating province initially. Based on what I've seen since landing here, you can relocate to Quebec or away from Quebec if they nominated you AFTER you become a Canadian citizen. Same applies for provincial nominees that I've met who relocated to other provinces after getting their citizenship.
Wooow are you for real , so with my PR if i get a job in Montreal ,I cannot move?

I only thought you cannot land?

But you have a point i think at the point of entry when they ask for an address to send your PR Card. I dont think you can use a Quebec address

Not to avoid your question i think Security has more jobs there are other enterprise applications competing with SAP , like oracle , microsoft dynamics , salesforce etc.

I have been thinking seriously about how best to move my funds to Canada successfully considering the fluctuating exchange rates? Do banks still issue PTA to PR visa holders? What's the maximum duration of bank statement I can print out and hold as POF for POE purpose?

Cc black buddy, salford1, maternal, fusion23
they rarely ask, don't let me say the don't ask for proof of funds at point of entry

try with the PTA mine was said i was in the air when it was approved after putting so much pressure on them and applied 3 weeks before departure, but then things were so bad even the airport fx didnt have .

Also see if u can open dorm account or ask bankers around.
