Car TalkRe: PICTURES: Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company by GAR3TH(m):
[quote author=][/quote]Exactly what I've been saying the past few years about Innoson, Though we should give them credit, we shouldn't go as far as to saying "made in Nigeria" or Patronize them, because their cars are not nigerian. They are just like PAN an VW of nigeria. they did not design, engineer, consult or manage anything about the cars or buses. The only thing they did was buy assembly kits from companies such as Dongfeng Special Vehicle Bus Co.Ltd [china] who are the real owners, designers and engineers behind the cars and buses innoson produces. In other words all innoson "does" technically is replace the front logo with there own.

Like I said I given them credit for creating the business but Nigerians and those on Nairaland should not spread misinformation. Innoson the company may be nigerian but the cars and buses they produce are not nigerian. Just like how Volkswagon of nigeria is a nigerian company but the cars they assemble are German.

Invisible Man: From Readings comments on this article, I believe most bloggers on here are based in Nigeria and have not worked for foreign production companies in their life. General Motors here in the states does not manufacture their vehicle parts, most productions are outsourced to different companies all over the globe before they are brought back to GM Detroit plant for assembly. Why are you guys knocking down your fellow man's hard work? I consider arm chair critics as envious people.
Yes true but there is a Big difference between outsourcing your own materials and products to other companies and countries to produce and buying parts abroad just to replace the name.

Even if Ford, toyota and these other companies outsource their cars they are still engineered, design and tested buy that same company.

Just like how peugeot and volkswagen outsourced their cars to Nigeria for assembly, Thoses cars were designed and engineered buy Peugeot & VW and not nigeria.

What Innoson does is different as in they buy cars/buses [parts] that were design and engineered by a different company [Wuling motors of China, King Long United Automotive, Dongfeng Special Vehicle (Shiyan) etc] and put their logo on it.

Its based on a joint venture agreement they signed with those companies so all they have to do is assemble it after they receive the kit.

Its kind of how you assemble furniture that comes in a box, you didn't make the furniture you just assembled it.

Non the less it doesn't matter since the company does employ nigerians and adds to the economy
Christianity EtcRe: TB Joshua Correctly Predicts Russian Plane Crash Of Wednesday by GAR3TH(m): 5:39pm On May 11, 2012
Most of his so call predictions are vague and not specific and are mere coincidence. Just like when he "predicted" heavy flooding in south east asia, but a person with a brain knows it was a La Niña year coupled with the fact that it was also the raining season in that part of the world. I could have predicted that myself even though i heard it from The meteorologist on TV first.

Anyway if he want to be taking seriously he needs to add some description and detail to his prediction and not just some over simplified white wash.

Till then many of us will consider him fake.
Foreign AffairsRe: Obama Announces Support For Same-sex Marriage by GAR3TH(m): 3:28pm On May 10, 2012
But just for the record, like I said before on this thread and others, WHAT DO GAY PEOPLE 3000 MILES AWAY CONCERN YOU. DOES THE NIGERIAN ECONOMY CRASH BECAUSE OF GAY PEOPLE OR DOES THE PRICE OF OIL TRIPLE OR IS CORRUPTION CAUSED BY GAY PEOPLE? WETIN CONCERN YOU ABOUT THE LIVES OF SOMEONE ELSE 3000 MILES AWAY OR EVEN YOUR NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOR. NOTHING!!! people are just sticking their noises into arguments that wont even affect them nor the country. Thats just being an instigator and a bigot. If gay marriage is past or not or if obama approves of it or not who cares, life still goes on as usually and nothing will change. Hence why I and many others find it !funny that many people are so sentimental about this issue even though it does not involve them. this hole gay marriage thing is blown out of proportion by people who have nothing better to do.
Foreign AffairsRe: Obama Announces Support For Same-sex Marriage by GAR3TH(m): 11:41am On May 10, 2012
As homophobic as I am what i really cant stand is the utter Bigotry I keep seeing on Nairaland. Every time a gay thread opens you see people flood it with bible quotes, praising the lord etc. But isn't it the same Bible that also condemns polygamy, divorce, monogamy, lifelong celibacy, adultery, Gluttony etc because they are also sin. So How many Nairalanders are FAT, then in that case you are going to hell for gluttony. How many Nairalanders are divorced or remarried, well your going to hell because that is a sin.

My point is you just cant pick and choose what is sin or what is not. You just cant say that Homosexuality is a sin and divorcing, polygamy or gluttony is not. That call being a Bigot, either everything that is stated in the bible is sin or every thing is not, Simple.
Foreign AffairsRe: Obama Announces Support For Same-sex Marriage by GAR3TH(m): 11:21am On May 10, 2012
LoL so Obama states his opinion and some folks are wishing him wrong. So what if he support gay marriage, its HIS opinion and NOT yours. Just because another person's views are different from your views doesn't mean you should hate on someone.

Second whats wrong with gay marriage? I myself don't see the problem. Its not my life nor my business so why the hell should I get involve. Why should I tell another person 3000 miles away how to live there lives. If someone 3000 miles way controlled my life i'll fly over there and kick their a.s.s

Anyway some people just need to take a chill pill and take a few steps back before typing and ask themselves wetin concern you . . .

It was President Umaru Yar’ Adua regime that renovated the port and it was the the ministry of transportation and the Ministry of Works & Infrastructure that continued the project not GEJ.
PoliticsRe: Onitsha Port Set Ahead Of Commissioning By FG Next Month by GAR3TH(m): 2:48am On May 08, 2012
I'm still confused about this river port, as in why it has massive cranes when it has little to no cargo dock. and why there is a covered warehouse that takes up most of the lot.

To me this looks like a river port that specializes in the transportation of agricultural goods or Raw earth materials. Since there is no way they can fit large quantities of commercial shipping cargo containers on that dock.

Which makes sense since argicultural state like Kogi, Edo and Benue are in the vicinity.

omar22: It doesnt matter most track layout are the same width

Why do you think they are sending it to New York for modification? any train could run on any rail so far it has the correct wheel gauge to the running track, I work for a rail company and to move a train out of service during working hours they do request permission to let a certain train cross some certain tracks.
In my statement I wasn't taking about the gauge, I was talking about the load bearing capacity of the track themselves and the infrastructure associated with them. Both Light Rail and Heavy Rail can come in different gauges, 1435mm to 1067mm and others. The real difference is that Heavy Gauge infrastructure can handle more stress, weight and high speeds than light rail infrastructure. Imagine if they built a rail bridge that has a live load bearing capacity of 4 tons [light rail] but instead a 20 ton subway car uses that bridge. The bridge will collapse wont it.

Kobojunkie: ^^ This is exactly why Nigeria keeps rocking back and forth. What on earth has the purchase of 255 scrap rail cars from Toronto to do with whether this is LIGHT RAIL OR HEAVY RAIL? ROFLMAO!! grin grin cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy
WOW now i know for sure you are just arguing for the sake of it.
How on earth can a 85200 pound subway car possible run on a light rail track? BECAUSE ITS NOT A LIGHT RAIL TRACK.
How can a subway car Multiple units preform tigh radius turns on a light rail track? BECAUSE ITS NOT A LIGHT RAIL TRACK.
How on earth can a subway car run high speeds on a light rail tarck? BECAUSE ITS NOT A LIGHT RAIL.

hm . . .There are NUMEROUS sources that say exactly what you suggest, yet you have yet to produce one verifiable one to this point? Instead what you have conveniently done is try to suggest LAMATA is not a credible source for information? WOW . . . quelle suprise!

P.S, LAMATA website was at least update in 2010. http://www.lamata-ng.com/rail_services.html
The website was not updated, what was "updated" was that they added information on other projects they are working on. The page you link to was created in 2006 and was not "updated". Trust me I have no life grin and I periodically check various websites on updates on various projects going on in nigeria.
TravelRe: More Updates On The Lagos Light Rail Project & 10Lane Lagos-Badagry Express Way by GAR3TH(m): 6:15am On May 04, 2012
You keep posting that same LAMATA webpage that was made in 2006. That Webpage of lamata and the lamata website in general has never been updated, hell many nigerian websited are never updated. Why are you posting a link made in 2006 for an issue that is in 2012.

Second why should you believe me? There are numerous sources that corresponds to what I said.
TravelRe: More Updates On The Lagos Light Rail Project & 10Lane Lagos-Badagry Express Way by GAR3TH(m): 6:05am On May 04, 2012
Kobojunkie: GROW a brain. The very company in charge of the construction tell you there that the system is a LIGHT RAIL SYSTEM, but here you are telling us we should not believe what the company says because YOU SAY . .. Attacking me will not reduce the stupidity in what you are suggesting we do here . . . i.e believe you just because you say so.

Again . . .

According to Lagos State/LAMATA,

The Light Rail Mass Transit scheme is a proposal to introduce a Light Rail Transit System within the existing Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) corridor from Iddo in Lagos State to Ijoko in Ogun State. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between LAMATA and NRC was signed in 2006, to grant access to the 100 ft of NRC right-of-way required for the construction of the LRMT line.

http://www.lamata-ng.com/rail_services.html

For those who have no clue/are unaware that you cannot state you are building Light Rail when in fact you mean heavy rail please check the links below for more info . . .

Light Rail vs Heavy Rail

An MOU was signed indicating what would be built, but no. We should IGNORE all that because your ego just wants us to believe as YOU SAY.!!! grin grin grin cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy

Don't worry! COme back and tell us that LIGHT RAIL SYSTEM is marketing term for HIGH-SPEED rail now . .
What are you talking about, They are building a Conventional rail system, If they were building a light rail system then why in the BLUE HELL DID LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT BUY 255 SUBWAY CARS FROM TORONTO Link. Second It seem that you act as if you found out about the project today. This project has been in development since 2006. The Original plan was to build a light rail, Since then the plan has changed and today they are building a conventional heavy gauge rail with subway cars. Second the project is no longer call Lagos Light Rail, that was the original name back in the day, TODAY it is call EKO RAIL. You can even go to EKO RAIL's website. Its not my fault that LAMATA nevers update there website or that Journalist are to incompetent to know the real name of the project. Once again The name of the project is EKO rail, Previously in the past during planning it was once a light rail and LAMATA used it as a marketing term in between the change in phases.

Kobojunkie: Again . . . .

Is LAMATA and the Lagos State Establishment LYING? Since you seem to know more than they do, you might want to INFORM them of what YOU KNOW so they can change their INFORMATION since they remain the major source of information on the project ooo..

Anyone with common sense will know that it cannot be LIGHT RAIL AND HEAVY RAIL at the same time. It is either LIGHT RAIL as LAMATA/LAGOS STATE claims it is, or someone is lying.
Then In that case sue LAMATA for "lying", sue Your cell phone company for "lying", Infact sue every company for "lying". Its not my problem so i'm not sure why your trying to connet me to it, Its just a marketing terms, simple.

Kobojunkie: Again . . . .

"Light Rail" is no markerting term given that there is clear idea of what constitutes light rail and what does not.

I don't believe it makes sense for one to claim one is BUILDING A LIGHT RAIL TRANSIT SYSTEM, and then follow that up with "IT IS NOT A LIGHT RAIL TRANSIT SYSTEM". grin grin grin grin grin

Either LAMATA is right in stating that it is building a LIGHT RAIL SYSTEM or it is LYING, and probably need to make sure it informs the Lagos People and investors of this LIE.
I as in you dont believe it but it is a marketing term. Pictures above shows that they are using subway cars and not light rails.

Like I said its the same way Cell phone companies say 4G but its really not 4G.

NO ONE IS LYING, ITS A MARKETING TERM

But it is not a light rail, They are using it as a marketing term the same way cell phone companies use "4G" as a marketing term, Btw 4G isn't 4G.

Lagos will NOT be using light rail cars, they will be using single mass - 12 multiple unit Subway cars. Thats not a light rail system, Two different system and Different size and capacity means of transport.

Below is a Light Rail tram holds about 30 passengers

Below is a Subway Car [what lagos is using] Hold about 200 passengers

TravelRe: More Updates On The Lagos Light Rail Project & 10Lane Lagos-Badagry Express Way by GAR3TH(m): 4:54am On May 04, 2012
Just so some people know the Light rail in lagos Light Rail project is a marketing term. The project is actually a conventional rail system that uses subway cars, so its not an inefficient light rail system.

There are plans to build a rail bridge next to the 3rd mainland to connect the rail to the island. The proposed plans call for another cable-stay bridge but if they cant get the funding the most likely go with the a segmented bridge [3rd mainland look alike]
PoliticsRe: Which State Is The Most Educated In Nigeria by GAR3TH(m): 9:21pm On Apr 29, 2012
What is Interesting is that the literacy rate for youths [15-24 years old] is much much higher than the adult literacy [15 and above]. In fact the youths were added to the adult category just so it can boost up the adult literacy. Just imagine how low the adult literacy will be if youths weren't added to it, shocking. Mind you that half of nigerians are below the age of 25.

Here are the Literacy rates from the bureau of statistics

http://www.nigerianstat.gov.ng/uploads/latestRelease/de4f17834ea0c57a9e1f440d029aebaa460863d0.pdf

In terms of literacy in any language Lagos scored the highest followed by zamfara, imo, Abia, rivers, akwa and the rest

Interms of literacy in Speaking english Lagos, Imo, rivers, abia are the highest.

Some LGAs in abia have 90+ literacy rates, impressive smiley

Note that this data was conducted on a survey, [not sure how they conducted it]
PoliticsRe: Fashola Inspects Ikoyi Bridge Now At 80% Completion. Pics by GAR3TH(m): 9:01am On Apr 29, 2012
The bridge will most likely be tolled. As far as pricing it will probably be higher than the lekki toll gate since this bridge does have "narrow" [2x2 lane] roads unlike the lekki expresway which is 3x3 lanes. If it was cheaper the people will rush the bridge and its 2x2 lane roads will no be able to handle the traffic of the lekki expressway. So what I believe is that the price will be high but not to high so some people who can afford it will take the bridge and decongest the lekki expressway. but what do i know. . .

The Niger River Shipping Channel will be a minimum of 60 metres wide with a minimum depth of 2.5 metres [8.2Ft]

http://www.terra-et-aqua.com/dmdocuments/Terra_121_4.pdf

That confirms what I said before that large vessels will not be navigating the waterway but rather small River barges and transport ferries.

I have a feeling it was a Mil Mi-24 , which are commonly seen at NAF Port Harcourt and not a fighter jet.

What the first lady did is unacceptable. You just cant go around blocking roads for prolong periods of time. Even when Fashola's convoy travels they only block the road for a few seconds so he can pass, they dont block the roads for 4 or 5 hours like the first lady did. Even when Obama and the New York state governor pass my town they only block the road for a few minutes not half a day.
PoliticsRe: Onitsha City Monorail By Globim International by GAR3TH(m): 11:45pm On Apr 13, 2012
I still dont understand why all these nigerian cities want to build monorails for. Monorails are extremely expensive to build and carries awaaaaaaay less passengers than other transport systems. In other words a Monorail is a glorified bus that runs on a 2 billion dollar track. Why Can theses idiots just buy buses or implement BRT systems instead of wasting billions on monorails. These governments are only building monorails for the name, NO SENSIBLE GOVERNMENT WILL BUILD A MONORAIL SYSTEM FOR TRANSIT. A metro rail, BRT or City buses are the only viable solutions.

and like kobo said this is old news

odumchi: The issue is that there is equipment thats stored in the HQ that can't be flown. Think of it this way:

Would you rather live a few hundred miles from your source of income and constantly worry about it's integrity? Or would you prefer to live a few minutes from it?
I would assume HQ mainly handles the business white collar aspect of LNG and not the manual labor side of LNG. BTW NLNG has offices in London and abuja too, the Abuja and london offices dont handles NLNG Equipment form 2000 miles away, Just like the former lagos HQ its white collar paperwork. They already have a supply base and LNG plant in river state prior to the move.
