Da Mayor: This post has to be a joke. Now i think the author should check the definition of "wind farm" before using the heading. the most commonly used wind turbines generate 3.5mw of electricity each. Hence i will assume there are only 3 turbines in this "farm". A standard wind farm has btw 50-200 turbines to be qualified as a "Wind farm"There are 37 wind turbines in this project with each generating 275-kW for a total of 10.175 MW. I dont know were you got your information but 3.5mw is not the norm, 1-MW is the norm but depending on the wind conditions and site conditions the required turbine might change. In this case a 275-kw turbine was considered efficient for this project. I dont see the point of moving the hq to PH, unless i missed something? The same people found in the lagos office will be the same people that will be in the PH office. These are NLNG jobs, not your local Mcdonalds. They wont hire a person just because they are locals but rather they will hire the BEST people in the field of LNG because these are work intensive jobs. So just like shell, chevon etc who also have high intense job openings, the average locals wont have the requirements for any/most jobs at NLNG, hence why you see many foreigners and african employees while little to no locals locals are employed [shell,chevon,mobile]. If anything its more of a inconvenience for those at the lagos office to relocate all the way to PH. I understand the position of having the HQ closer to the mineral but overall, the entire move is questionable. |

One thing that makes me laugh about Nigerian politics is how people can not take criticism. Instead of tackling the problem, explaining yourself and damage control both politician and their followers will go out of their way to make the person or group who criticized them the bad guy. What is wrong with criticism, only in nigeria will the guy telling you not to hug the transformer be the bad guy. There is nothing wrong in tasking your politicians and holding them accountable for their actions, whether or not you support them or not. This is why nigeria is the way it is today, your politicians steal billions but yet you still vote for them next election because his from my tribe abi. nonsense, just look at how foriegn politicains are tasked by both their supporters and opponents everyday. manny4life: secondly of all, you can't compare the international airport standard of Lagos and PH. If you're an airliner who flies into Nigeria, assuming that airports are categorized into A, b, and C based upon progression (facilities, equipments, etc), would you fly to an airport of Cat A or C, being that Cat A is higher than Cat C?I dont think you understand why an airport is considered international or not. It has to do with airport equipment and NOT A FANCY TERMINAL. I can build a small 10 sqaure foot shack and it will be recognized as an international airport as long as I have the required infrastructural, technological and circulation equipment that can accommodate international flights. I agree that lagos does have a larger terminal than PH, which leads to more passengers, but thats not the point. The point is the ratio to the total number of flights. According to FAAN Lagos received 2,749,000 domestic passengers and 2,300,000 international passenger, A ratio of about 1:1. Kano, yes Kano, received 188,722 domestic passengers and 134,760 international passengers [high demand most likely cause by pilgrimage], again a ratio of about 1:1. But port harcourt received 1,034,506 domestic passengers but only 47,081 international passengers, a ratio of 22:1. Thats the difference I'm talking about. Abuja and some other cities also have the same problem, High Domestic demand but Little International demand. What I'm saying is that building 3 airports with such a low international demand is suicide. Right now is not the best time to be considering Airports. link That is the strong difference between the both; they both have designation of "International", but one has a lil more standard than the other, hence the reason why they travel further out to board flights because the lower standards needs upgrades for large airliners to come in... got it? It does not mean that PH or SE doesn't have the economic potential, it just means that PH doesn't have the infrastructural capacity to meet the international designation of an airport. In addition to that, you have to account for all other limiting factors why both airlines and airports and even the govt affecting the airport.KLM and some other international carries fly to port harcourt, The companies are there but like I said the demand is not. Second no one is saying the south east has no current of future economic potential, people are just saying there is no demand in the south east and[b] most parts of nigeria[/b] for more international airports. |

The OP is saying that south easterners are so rich that the will rather pay extra to go all the way to lagos instead of going to port harcourt, which is 5 minute drive from the south east. Does that make sense, NO!!! Thats like saying a person drives all the way from manchester just to fly from london heathrow or someone drive all the way from florida to fly from NY JFK. I then went ahead to qualify the one for Onitsha, saying that Asaba can be upgraded to play that role.Thats incorrect. You said you want to Build or upgrade the airport. By upgrade you said you want to build new airport terminals and demolish the old "crack house" terminals that currently exist. You then went on to post pictures of airports around the world. Yes you want to upgrade them, but according to your vision you are basically building a new airport ontop of the site of the old one. So yes your are [wastefully] building a new airport, even if you upgrade. you cannot use current traffic to estimate likely future international traffic. That is even a laughable method. I would say that about 20 -40 percent of the Lagos traffic originate or terminate in SE. I am even being conservative with that figure. So, look at Enugu in the neighborhood of 1 - 2 million annually if it is upgraded into a FULL international airport.Really so Enugu will have 1-2 million people once upgraded while port harcourt which is only an hours drive away only has 13,000 international passengers per year, really. can you tell me were the 1-2 million people will come from. Were the average igboman will find the money to buy a $2000 international plane ticket? You actually believe a market seller or a trader will have the money to buy a ticket and go on vacation in Bahamas, really. You my friend have lost touch with reality. How does 3 international airports help the common man when you have no roads to access the airport, no rail system, no secuirty, no light, no water, no educational system etc. I recall that you were bragging about the renovation of the river port in onitsha. You said the port will be the economic engine of the south east and people wont have to go through lagos anymore to get to the south east. Well the River port and dredging of the lower niger river has been completed for months know. So what does the port look like today, its empty, not a single ship, no cargo whats so ever, the port hardly get used. WHy? because there are no basic infrastructures around the port!!!! unlike lagos there is no good roads leading to the port to handle the heavy traffic, no railway system connect to the port, improper security around the port etc. What you are proposing with the airport is exactly whats happening with the port. Why 3? Port harcourt and Enugu international are enough to serve the 15 million or so people living in the south east. Why not just upgrade those two airports instead of building new ones just a couple of miles away. You also have Calabar, Asaba and the airport in Imo, once again you can just upgrade those airports so they can have international flights. Second enugu international airport has a yearly passenger traffic of 270,000* [all domestic]** people and port harcourt international has a yearly traffic of 850,000* people out of which only 13,000 were international flights according to FAAN. Compare that to Lagos which has a yearly traffic of 6,300,000 people.*** You cant justify building 3 airports in an area were international flight demands are low. Why not build something that will actaully give you return on your investment such as road or a rail way. There is no reason to build 3 new airports when the current ones dont even receive that much traffic. Instead of banning Night time travel buses why not Fix the Roads and increase security with better equipment. Nigerian politicians always want to take the easy way out instead of doing their job. Do not confuse the south-south region with the niger delta. Port harcourt is located on the mainland on the border of the niger delta, anything north of port hacourt is not the niger delta the same way that everything east of warri is not the niger delta but the mainland. Its simple geography, how can some people call imo or Northerner delta state niger delta? lol do people even know what a delta is anymore. Simple as that. The warri thing was a mistake and I fixed it. Anyway I'm not cherry pick, that is what geographically the niger delta is. If You are not from those that area in purple like i shown above you are not from the niger delta, you are from the mainland. Its simple Geography, not really that hard. I'll recommend Uyo located in Akwa Ibom state. Its a small city with good developing infrastructure and good government. There is a mall [u/c] in the city and the city is fairly quiet, almost to quiet. Another good city is Calabar located in Cross Rivers state. This city has it all from shopping and entertainment to social life and leisure. Calabar has the best infrastructure for its size in nigeria and is known for being nigeria's cleanest city. But what sets calabar out from other small quiet cities are the job opportunities and businesses located in calabar. Though Calabar is Nice its mainly for the young crowd, though its still a good place to raise a family. Enugu, located in Enugu state, is my top choice for families. This city has a mall and and is fairly quiet. Though the infrastructure is not on the same level as Uyo or Calabar, the city is rapidly developing with the current progressive government. Enugu is surrounded by other cities that are only minutes away, not like calabar or uyo in which you'll have to drive some miles and hours to other close cities. Another reason why Enugu is a good choice is because there are numerous houses being built there so finding a home should be easier than other cities. Owerri is nice but Its way to quiet and homes and businesses are waaay to spread out. |

LoL Nigerians and self ego, some people need to grow up. Changing information on a website does not change reality. BTW did you guys know That Yorubas are now 60% Muslim and 30% Christian LMAO. The guy who changed the info gave a link to some Islamic blog, Hmmm...before it said 50-50 or something like that. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoruba_people On a side note I never understood why people post "related ethnic groups" on wikipedia pages even though many are not even related nor do the share history. You can find this in the Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa and other tribes wikipedia pages. Some Nigerians sef, trying to form online affiliations smh. For god sake the Hausa page says Christianity is their related group[edited, fixed], while the igbo page says ijaw are their related group and the yoruba say its the bini lol. I bet its people on nairaland who are doing this. |
