Throughout history there has NOT been any conflict between Yoruba and Igbos. There was no war or conflict between the Nri kingdom and the Oyo Empire nor are there any conflict between these two in this modern age. Yorubas and Igbos (like other southern groups) have been trading with one another for years and have a strong bond. There really is no rivalry nor is there tension between these two tribes. The only way I can see a case for a "rivalry" is during the civil war. But then was Yoruba the only tribe who fought. Every tribe fought in the civil war so to just single out Yorubas is a bit misleading. In summary Yorubas and Igbo have a long friendly history between the two groups and they have yet to be any conflict between the two. The only place were you'll see tension between the two groups is on Nairaland. But we all can agree that its the same tribalists who constantly post and they don't represent the average Igbo or Yoruba. |

The federal government receive ~50% of oil revenues, LGAs receive ~25% and States receive 25% of the oil revenue. So instead of 36 states sharing the 25% of oil revenues, 50 or so states will now be sharing the allocations. In other words creation of more states means a large decrease in the allocation budgets of current states. Mind you that many of nigeria's states only survive based on allocation, with out that, many will collapse. Second, creation of more states will lead to an increase in recurrent expenditures. If state x earning N6 billion a month and the requirement to run a state is N2 billion on recurrent expenditures (salaries) it means that states spends 33% of its budget on recurrent expenditures. But for some dumb reason someone decided to split state x into two and create state x and state y. so, since money does not grow on trees both state x and state y have to split the N6 billion allocation, which means each state now earns N3 billion a month in allocation. Now remember it cost N2 billion to run a state, so both state x and state y now have to spend N2 billion of their N3 billion month budget (66%) on recurrent expenditures. Third, The states that we currently have can not even sustain themselves so why are some even talking about more state creation. People need to get over this primitive thinking of ethnical run states, this fiction of their village become a state and stop the use of the fictional nigerian word called marginalization. No one in nigeria is marginalized, from federal, state and local. every group and every body has political representative that represents their area in government. If you are indeed marginalized then its your own people, your own politicians, your own ethnic group that are marginalizing you, you have no one else to blame. Fourth, we need to reduce the number of state to empower the local government. It is the local government that will have the closest impact to your life and the development of your community. The more states we create the more we weaken our local governments. With that said the mere number of LGAs, 774, is the main reason why the LGAs are so weak. In my opinion, its more important to reduce the number of LGAs than the number of states. Though both are very important. |
Tinyemeka:Not really sure why your screaming but, Yes, I can say that i have knowledge of Innoson group and Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company. What I'm talking about is Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company, not innoson group. Anyway, Innoson group manufactures tables, chairs, pots, bowls, plumbing and others products, so i do know what innoson group does, how ever was not talking of Innoson group I was talking of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company. Show me proof of the so-called JV agreement between IVM and those chinese coys you listed. And what did you attach those links for by the way? To show that the companies are related? Please do not insult your intelligence in that manner I went through all of them and couldn't not find anything related among the four websites.Well obviously i can not produce the official contract but if you go to Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company you'll find that it says, "IVM introduces automotive products from China, Japan and Germany." In other words cars not made nor design by Nigeria. This is why i posted the link to other bus manufacturing agencies to show that the same buses that those Chinese companies make is the same ones found at innoson. I forgot the link to the main article but in it it talked about the joint venture, i also have another below that says pretty much the same thing. any who, in my previous post I provided picture links to king-long china and Dongfeng Special Vehicle (Shiyan) Bus Company showing that the buses are the same, what else do you want? I'm not against innoson motors nor i'm i trying to degrade their image, I actually want the company to be successful. all i want is for people to just get the facts right, that all. http://primenamesmagazine.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=349%3A-as-jonathan-opens-innoson-auto-plant-lingering-questions-exist&Itemid=17 http://innosonivm.com/en/About.Asp?ID=1 |
Is Innoson "MADE IN NIGERIA" or "ASSEMBLED IN NIGERIA"? ![]() I know that it takes a lot to make a car. . Just asking. If so, where is the body fabricated, the engine, the electricals, the lights, etc
The cars will be "made in Nigeria" but in reality they will be "assembled in Nigeria". Like I've said numerous times Innoson is not really a "Nigerian company", Its just like volkswagon of nigeria and peugeot of nigeria. Innoson was created by joint venture between a Nigerian Industrialist, Wuling motors of China, King Long United Automotive, Dongfeng Special Vehicle (Shiyan) Bus Co and other international stake holders and companies. The only difference is that unlike VWN, ammeco or Peugeot of nigeria, Innoson gets to put their logo on the buses. The engineers that the article mention are most likely foreigners, but i know they have some nigerians [this one guy from borno]. however Innoson has no design team, because they dont create the vehicles, since they import. I believe what the article was hinting at is that 50% of the products were "made" in nigeria, as in assembled and the other 50% were preassembled imports from other countries, enigine blocks, transmissions etc. http://innosonivm.com/en/ProductList.Asp?Page=1 http://dongfengbus.en.alibaba.com/productlist.html http://www.king-long.com.cn/en/p_detail.asp?pr_class=5&id=106 http://innosonivm.com/en/ProductView.Asp?ID=54 @Topic this is a good development that the FG will patronize the company. This means more jobs for the locals and a boost to the economy. |
GAR3TH: in addition, Governors and states are not the only branch in nigeria, how come we never talk or task our LGA chairmen? |
There was actually a "large crowd", its just that the event took place in a very very large venue, TBS. TBS seat over 50,000 in the stands and has a HUGE square [plaza] that has the capacity for more. Abuja and other cities had the same amount if not smaller crowds but they had smaller venues which made it seem as if the place was "packed". |
alagbatomoye:Thats because we live in Nigeria were our average politicians are corrupt and draft. When someone who is slightly better comes along we all hail them as if they were gods. Thats because nigeria is just like a special ed. school, every student in the class is R.etarded and receives Failing grades. so when one student get a D+ everyone in the class thinks that student is intelligent but is that really the case. D+ in special ed. is not the same as an A+ in a normal school. If i was to grade governance performance I will give fashola a B-, Duke a C+, Akpabio a C+, Amaechi a C, Oshomole a C-, Chimes a C-, Obi a D+, Fayemi a D+, Okorocha D- and every other person an F. Compared to other Nigerian and african leaders you will say they are doing well but compare them to the rest of the world and you'll find most are in the special ed category. |
There is a big difference between drawing a line in the sand and calling it a state and grouping economical, viable, self efficient areas and calling it a state. I myself, nigerians, africans, economist, international governments, mars and Jupiter can all agree that creating another state in the south east is suicided for that region. How come politicians never talk of state reduction, reducing all geo-zones to 5 states, no, instead they always talk of increasing the number of states so there political friends can get in on the salary. Nigeria is already choking with pointless states and pointless government positions. The cost of running nigeria is to much, we need to decrease bureaucracy instead of increasing it. |
The reason why many are angered by this move is because the government has no self respect. All the Billions the Federal government receives from oil companies, all the Billions Niger delta states receive, all the Billions all the niger delta LGAs receive, all the Billions NDDC (Niger Delta Development Commission) receives and the Billion in grants and donation to the Niger delta and it still looks shame as it was in 1960 after all these years. Then the money loaded government has the nerve to say Chevron should help supply electricity to some delta oil communities. What about the money the government has and what have they been doing with it. Its not a case of GEJ being president or if you support him or not. Its not a case of cooperate social responsibility. Its a case of self respect, There is no way a money loaded government should be asking any company for charity, the government should provide power themselves. Its like if bill gates files and starts collecting welfare checks and benifits, does he who does it have no shame. |
I felt embarrassed reading this article and the real sad part is that this isn't the first time, I remember the government saying the same thing but to shell about a community in baylesa state, for shell to build a power plant & schools. Nigeria's government is a complete joke, Federal, state and local |
Beaf:Beaf Like I said, Makoko does not exist in zoning maps, districts maps or town planning maps because ITS SHOULDN'T BE THERE. Its and Illegal development hence why it does not get funding nor is it represented. Its was built illegally by the private sector and was not maintain by the private sector. Try building the same makoko in New York and see if it wont get demolished by the NYC's government for not following zoning laws or tax property lots. I get what your saying and i under stand your point, but your blaming the wrong people and your way of solving the issue is counter productive. |
Beaf:Makoko existed but it was a small fishing village, you cant compare makoko of 18th or 19th century to the one today. Second like I said, makoko of today was built by the private sector illegally, and was neglected by the same private sector not the government. Its not a case of wickedness but rather a case of responsibility and order. The government is not responsible for makoko, as a matter of fact makoko shouldn't even be around. I'm caring and I always donate and voluntary to help the needy but in order to maintain order and efficiency in a society, you have to follow town planning and zoning laws and regulations. for example Victoria garden city is a Legal private estate development and It provides its own security, drainage, roads etc. Just like makoko it was built by the private sector and is maintained by the private sector like makoko should be. If government did not build it why should government maintain it? its not their property. But all that is invalid because makoko is and illegal settlement. Dont get me wrong I understand what your saying and i understand why your saying it but your approach to solving the problem is not the best way. |
igbaodun:Makoko was not created by the government nor was it acknowledged by them. If you look at a zoning map you are not going to see makoko. if you look at districts plans there is no Makoko, Why? Because its is an illegal settlement built illegally by individuals of the private sector. Its not a case of providing security but rather a case of not rewarding people for doing illegal things. |
But government is not responsible for building housing, they can subsidies it but they are not responsible for building homes. Just like the pictures you posted above, which are private sector investments, its the private sectors that does such development. Government is not responsible for developing or fixing Makoko nor is it responsible for providing security. Makoko was built illegally by members of the private sectors without government acknowledgment nor certification. And you expect government to be involve, if you come home one day and see a stranger in your home, seating on your sofa watch TV, are you going to make him dinner or give him services. |
OAM4J:+1 The Fg, State or Local government can not do anything in terms of development for those people. The only thing that is possible is for them to relocate and for the place to be demolished, whether or not they get compensation, which is a different topic. The reason that area has not seen any government intervention is because Makoko is an Illegal settlement built on what used to be a fishing harbor, If that slum was built on land it would have been demolished a long time ago. The real sad part is that over the years people kept on coming and many residence have stayed and lived there so long that they are "entitled" to the "land" that is makoko, so relocating wont be possible without a fight
this is how the cabin looks like. The USA govt have many of this cabin for relocation during flood.
Thats the problem and the controversy. Makoko is an Illegal settlement so many say why should they receive housing? There are other poor and unfortunate people out there who follow the law and do the right things who get nothing in return but then people who do what is illegal get a new house, is that fair? That is the main issue and controversy of makoko, people cant be rewarded for building their house any where they want or throw there waste anywhere they want. |
Dede1:My main point that i'm making is people do not have the right to claim land, they did not create the land nor its minerals and they did not create the trees or its soil. Unless you or someone else is Jesus, god or some religious super being in disguise you have no right to claim land in this universe. Yes you live there and its your home but its definitely not your land. Different people in the past owned that land and different people in the future will own that same piece of land. All this ethnic bigotry and land grabbing by myopic, tribalistic creatures is invalid, no one can claim what they did not create. Stop acting like apes and start acting like humans, it 2012 and people are still talking about tribal land. You previously said you will go to war for a piece of land, but i ask you, did you make that land, have you and your ancestors lived on that land since the dawn of time, so what in the blue hell makes it your land. This is the kind of ideology that separates the progressives like me from people like you. To be frank, people like you need to be deposed of, earth doesn't need this type of ideology. |
Dede1:Hence why I said Igbo and many other tribes, All this Ethnic land talk is all made up, there is no evidence to say that so and so ethnic group owns such land. The only evidence that actually hold true is the borders of ancient kingdoms and clans. Other than that people are just talking with out reason when they say they own a piece of land. its like me going to ghana or new york and saying that is now GAR3THLand just because i live there. Yes I agree that people of so and so ethnic group are currently there but it doesn't necessarily make it there land. |
Dede1: So you don't know nor have any evidence of what exactly is igbo land or its boundaries, so you treating to go to war, who is fooling who. . . . . so according to you lagos and abuja is also igbo land since igbos live and are native there lol. |
@ Dede1 You do know there is a BIG difference between igbo land and were igbos can be found. In reality there isn't a clear definition to what igbo land is as in the case for some other tribes, thats why you see people say igbo land is were igbos are found which is wrong. For example, northern part of delta state is technically edo land since that area was under control by the bini kingdom before the British came. It was just before Nigeria got independence that you started seeing igbos migrate there. Back in the 1800s, the 1914 and even up to 1991, asaba and the other town in the area were only a small village. Same thing goes for other areas such as port harcourt/ niger delta, lagos, abuja, etc. Just because igbos live there and are found in masses doesn't necessarily make it Igbo land. If anything the real extent of igbo land's boundaries is best represented by the boundaries of the Nri Kingdom. |
We had this discussion many times on NL, the south east is smaller than kaduna state but yet receives 3 or 4 times more allocation than kaduna state. so in terms of land the south east receives more allocation per square mile/km than the north. If you then want to break it down by population of states, you'll find that all states, excluding the oil producers, receive about the same allocation per capital. a state that has 1 million people and get 2 million in allocation is better off than a state with 10 million people and 3 million in allocation |
So after 51 years and injecting Trillions of dollar in to the power sector, the best they can come up with is raise the rates. THE PROBLEM ISN'T THE RATE WE PAY, THE PROBLEM IS THE INCOMPETENCE AND WIDE SPREAD CORRUPTION OF PHCN/NEPA AND THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. Its only in nigeria that billions of dollars will be allocated for power and still have no light, billions gone into the pockets of some individuals. Fix corruption and this wasteful political system and then you can consider fixing our road and power. What stops the subsidy from going into the pockets of some individuals just like the $16 billion that OBJ release for power went into the pockets of the same individuals. |
In terms of infrastructure abuja has really develop since 2000, so i think the OP is talking about social changes. I have notice a wild increase in hawkers, beggars and "off the road markets" in abuja over the years. during Adamu Aliero administration he destroyed every illegal market and it was hard for people to hawk/beg. The current FCT administration is being a bit to relaxed when it comes to those issues, hence why the OP is saying its starting to look like lagos. I don't live in abuja, Its just from what I noticed/heard. |
Valon4ego:What theory, You can look up any NON-BIAS History book @thread, I'm not going to reply following this post because I know I'm going to get swarmed by the pro briafra community just like the other threads. They are entitled to their views and opinions and they are free to reply, but I'm not going to tolerate any sort of negative responses. I wont respond if I see anything negativity. |
Like I said if biafra was serious they would have called for a referendum like many other places did and have done over the past 42 years. Did Ijaws, Ibibos, Efik, edo etc say they wanted to be in biafra? Today Do you see those groups asking for biafra, holding meetings and protest in the name of biafra, are those groups even part of MASSOB, Like I said and as everyone knows Biafra is an Igbo thing, You cant really deny that. None of those group said they wanted to be in biafra but yet Biafra claimed those land. Like the White kids in my global history class back in High School said, why wasn't there a referendum held if biafra was serious. To see what groups wanted to leave nigeria or be part of biafra, Instead biafra just did what the british did and claimed land with out the people's consent. The war was basically a big joke, If there was a UN sponsored referendum, Biafra might even be here today. |
obuekwe:Because. . . . 1 - Its wasn't the most nor was it near as devastating and far-reaching effect in terms of human death tolls and collateral property damage as other wars in the last 50 years. There were more important and meaningful wars that were fought in the same time period. 2 - After 40 years people have moved on, unfortunately there are still a few chess beaters out there. 3 - The war was basically a joke, Both side were at fault and in the end you got a pointless war. Biafra could had easily got a UN sponsored referendum back in 1967, they could have got a UN sponsored referendum through out those 40 years and they could get a UN sponsored referendum today. So why didn't they? Mid west region got a referendum as did many other countries/places, so why not biafra? why war? 4 - Biafra was an Igbo movement and not an eastern region nor a southern movement, this is why you ONLY see some igbos screaming biafra and NOT Ijaws, ibibo, Efik or edos. The igbo movement that was biafra started claiming other people's land who didn't even want to be part of biafra, Hence why the war started. Like point number 3, if biafra was serious, they should have got a referendum first, like many other places in that time period got., instead of starting a war and claiming land. In summary, it was a pointless war hence why no one talks about it. |
I thought we debunked the myth of tinubu owning any of those hotels all of them are privately owned. https://www.skyscrapercity.com/images/smilies/doh.gifAs for the topic, it mainly has to do with budgets, I expect the delta, oil producing states to build those "international standard hospitals" than cash strapped states like Lagos. |

With the amount of oil revenue akwa ibom receives, compared to it small size and sparse population why won't it be the best. I congratulate Akwa ibom but I dont think its worthy of an award compared to other states. Though Akwa Ibom is developing rapidly, other states without large oil revenues and have large populations are also developing as well. The award should have been based on who gives more effort rather than the finished product. But I have to agree, Akwa Ibom is lovely |
No more recreation of states, people . We already have too many pointless states and even more pointless political positions. People are actually looking for the reduction of states, to be frank. What I propose is the absorption or redistricting of states, changing the borderlines. So your proposed state can either join, kwara, ekiti, or ondo states. The same thing goes for those people who want Anomio state, it can easily be added to anambra. We are tired of new states, if someone has a problem just move the borderline. |

Nigeria's government is a complete joke, Federal, state and local
all of them are privately owned.
