Sportdab: Serena Williams has reacted to her fued with US Open final umpire Carlos Ramos by saying he would not have treated a man in the same way.
Serena allegedly branded Ramos a 'thief' during the final in a incredible match Flushing Meadows as she lost 6-2 6-4 to Naomi Osaka.
Serena refused to shake Umpire Ramos after the match having been given a game penalty for her outburst.
This came after Serena was accused of being coached from the sidelines.
She received a code violation and then smashed her racquet before having the game taken off her for the thief comment.
When asked if she would change anything from incident, Williams went on another rant, claiming men would not be treated how she was.
“I don't know,” she said.
“You definitely can't go back in time. I can't sit here and say I wouldn't say he's a thief, because I thought he took a game from me.
“But I've seen other men call other umpires several things. I'm here fighting for women's rights and for women's equality and for all kinds of stuff.
“For me to say 'thief' and for him to take a game, it made me feel like it was a sexist remark. He's never taken a game from a man because they said 'thief'.
“For me it blows my mind. But I'm going to continue to fight for women and to fight for us to have equal -- like Cornet should be able to take off her shirt without getting a fine. This is outrageous.
“I just feel like the fact that I have to go through this is just an example for the next person that has emotions, and that want to express themselves, and want tobe a strong woman.
“They're going to be allowed to do that because of today. Maybe it didn't work out for me, but it's going to work out for the next person.”
Asked why she thought the Umpire was a thief, Serena said: “Because he took a point from me,” she added.
“He alleged that I was cheating, and I wasn't cheating. Then I had a good conversation with him. I said, Listen, you know my character. You know me really well. Like you know that I don't even call for on-court coach. I don't even do that.
“He's like, You know what? I understand. I don't know if he said, You're right. But he understood. He's, like, Yeah, I get what you're saying.
“Then when I sat down, I said it again. I was, like, Just to be clear, I can understand what you saw because it may have looked -- just because I look at my box, it may have looked like I was getting coaching, but I'm telling you, that's not what I do. I said, I'd rather lose than have to cheat to win. I don't need to cheat to win. I've won enough. That's never been something I've ever done, you know.
“And he was cool. He was like, Oh, I get it. We had this great exchange. We were on the same page. We understood each other, and I felt that that was -- yeah.”
Source:http://www.sportdab.com.ng/2018/09/us-open-final-serena-williams-accuses.html SISTER IT IS A SIGN FOR YOU TO BOW OUT OF THE GAME, YOU HAVE CONTRIBUTED YOUR PART, YOU MAY HAVE BEING CHEATED BUT IT IS TIME TO CALL IT QUIT. |
Politics › Re: Foreign Reserves Decline By $2.3bn In 11 Weeks by gare(f): 2:43pm On Sep 09, 2018 |
engineerboat: There are concerns over the steady decline of Nigeria’s foreign reserves since the last three months despite the rise in oil prices and accruals from foreign bonds issuance.
Exclusive findings by LEADERSHIP Sunday showed that the reserves recorded a huge decline from $47,787,183,153 billion where it was on June 22, 2018 to a “worrying” point of $45,468,258,469 billion on Thursday, September 6.
The reserves took a bullish peak between May 18 – when it was $47.799 billion, and June 21 – when it had the last high figure of $47,784,255,384 billion, according to data obtained from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Apart from oil which accounts for about 80 per cent of Nigeria’s foreign reserves, the federal government is also hoping to borrow N849 billion (denomination in dollars) from the foreign market to finance the N1.6 trillion budget deficit. Experts have blamed the continuous decline in reserves on three factors: increased dollar supply by the CBN to the foreign exchange market, instability in the nation’s securities and exchange market, and the coming general elections in the country.
Those who spoke with LEADERSHIP Sunday on the development at the weekend expressed worry that the situation could have negative implications on the fragile growth of the economy and consumer demand.
They said the decline in the external reserves would persist in the short term as demand for the green back grows amid the continued intervention of CBN in order to curtail the pressure on the naira at both the I&E and BDC segments as well as the expected increased demand by portfolio investors who have been reported to be leaving the country ahead of the 2019 general elections.
Transactions on the floor of the equities reportedly took a bearish direction last week, with most highly capitalised securities not left out in the price nosedive, a development that forced market capitalisation to lose by about N4 billion in the weeklong trading. By the close of business on Friday, the stock market had fallen further by 0.88 per cent amid sustained profit taking activity.
The All–Share Index shed 304.15 absolute points, representing a decline of 0.88 per cent to close at 34,110.22 points. Also, the market capitalisation declined by N111 billion to close at N12.453 trillion. The fall was ascribed to profit-taking by investors or shareholders. LEADERSHIP Sunday reports that Nigeria operates a relatively regulated foreign exchange regime.
The CBN had intensified injection of hard currencies into the forex market since it signed a currency swap deal with the Peoples Bank of China to ease pressure on the Nigerian foreign exchange market. On Friday, the Central Bank injected the sum $303.91 million into the interbank retail Secondary Market Intervention Sales.
This is in addition to the sale of CNY 46.58 million in the spot and short-tenored forwards. The director, Corporate Communications at the CBN, Mr. Isaac Okorafor, said the releases were for the payment of Renminbi denominated Letters of Credit for agriculture and raw materials. He added that the sales in the Chinese Yuan were through a combination of spot and short-tenored forwards, arising from bids received from authorised dealers.

Buterflyle0: BREAKING!
UDOM'S CAMPAIGN COMMITTEE MEMBERS RESIGN, JOIN APC
Over 5000 PDP defectors have been received into APC by APC state chairman, Hon Ini Okopido in Ika local government area of Akwa Ibom state. Newly inaugurated members of the Deacon Udom Emmanuel second term campaign committee including, Dr Francis Udoikpong, Barr. Uyo Udom, Hon Harry Eduo, Hon Sir Godwin Idungafa and over 5000 other members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP declared for APC.
They asked their names to be removed from PDP register as well as Udom campaign team.
This follows the already concluded intending defection of a PDP chieftain Hon. Idongesit Ituen who is the member representing Itu State Constituency in the House of Assembly.
Udom Emmanuel has become increasingly worried by the depleting ranks of personnel in the camp of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) occassioned by the gale of defections by members of the party.
Sources revealed that the governor has ordered party chieftains including the Senator representing Uyo Senatorial District, Obong Bassey Albert; PDP National Adviser, Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem; and Works Commissioner, Mr. Ephraim Inyang, to plead with Hon. Idongesit Ituen, to reverse his planned defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
It was gathered that Senator Albert, Barr. Enoidem, Mr. Ephraim Inyang, and other chieftains of the PDP have literally turned the legislator's house to a Mecca.
They went, cap in hand, on separate occasions to divulge to the state legislator that Governor Emmanuel has decided to give him an automatic ticket for the PDP House of Assembly primary.
It was revealed that the promise of automatic ticket has not swayed Ituen who has already made up his mind to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The PDP, though, have not relented in their plea of Ituen, who is believed to be the life-wire of the party in Itu Local Government Area. Its like you really dont have anything to do than to go around with defection news, you all should wait for 2019 which is not far, than mentioning people, all for 30k |

Gucciblog: Big Brother Naija star, Bisola Aiyeola, has said she doesn’t owe her success in the entertainment industry to the BBNaija show. Rather, it is her own efforts and personal struggles. Bisola said this minutes after receiving a surprise Trailblazer’s Award during last Saturday’s African Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards held at the Eko Le Meridien Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos.
Fielding questions from journalists, Bisola said she had been on a journey to self realisation as an artiste since 2006. She said:
“I started out in the entertainment industry in 2006. In 2008, I was on MTN Project Fame West Africa music realty TV show. I have been an actress prior to Big Brother Naija. I wouldn’t say that BBN gave me all or the mileage that I am getting now. I am stressing it because a lot of people may think I woke up one day and just went for an audition.
“I attended the Big Brother Africa audition for over eight years before I finally made it into the BBN house. So, it has been a journey and I didn’t give up. Bisola dedicated her AMVCA Trailblazer’s award to the memory of her late baby daddy, Malcom Olanrewaju who died a few days ago at the age of 37.
“It’s been a sad week for me, but I’m also happy that I won this award. It’s not just for me; it is for my family and for people who have watched me grow, as well as those that have seen through my journey. “Notwithstanding, it would have been beautiful if Malcolm was around to see me win this award. He knew about this journey that I embarked on some years ago.
I’m dedicating this award to him and everybody else in my life.” she said.

EmagNig: The Nigerian Police Force has claimed that the raid on Edwin Clark's home is illegal and the five persons involved in the “unauthorised” search conducted at the home of the prominent Niger-Delta leader, have been detained.
Police spokesperson Jimoh Moshood said in a statement Tuesday night that not only was the raid illegal, the Inspector-General Ibrahim Idris has ordered immediate apprehension of the four officers and an informant who were identified as having participated in it.
“The Inspector-General of Police is not aware and did not order the raid of the residence of the Elder Statesman, Chief Edwin Clark,” Mr Moshood said while reacting to the Vanguard’s version of the story.
“Consequently,” Mr Moshood said, Mr Idris directed the detention and investigation of those involved.
“The outcome of the investigation will definitely be made public,” he said.
Mr Clark, considered one of the most influential leaders of the Niger Delta was a major backer of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan who lost the 2015 election to President Muhammadu Buhari.
Mr Clark and other Niger Delta leaders, as well as some other Southern leaders, have since then been clamouring for a restructuring of the Nigerian federation.
In his reaction the to raid on his home, he wondered how a government would believe a 92-year-old man like him would stockpile arms and ammunition at home.

Premium Times reports that Duke, who governed Cross River for eight years, was expected to contest for presidency on the platform of the PDP.
The report said Duke announced his decision to quit the PDP at the national secretariat of the SDP in the afternoon of Tuesday, September 4.
He was received by the national secretary of the SDP, Shehu Gabam, the publicity secretary, Alfa Mohammed, and other top party members.
