PhonesRe: Samsung GS3 Vs Nokia Lumia900 by gator666: 12:58pm On Jul 31, 2012
The day I buy another Nokia, please ask immigration to deport me from here, lol.

Seriously, Nokia was, kind of, the best many years ago, but not anymore.

Now, Samsung rules and Sony is not far behind, after breaking up with Ericsson.
PoliticsRe: Something Is Wrong; Power Is Improving by gator666: 3:31pm On Jul 30, 2012
My small country of just under 10 million people has installed generation capacity of 8355 MW, of which 34% is from hydro sources, 62% from thermal sources and the rest from other sources. And yet, we complain. Well, maybe we should stop complaining then wink
PoliticsRe: Hillary Clinton To Visit Nigeria In August 2012 by gator666: 12:28pm On Jul 30, 2012
My fellow Nigerians, beware of Mrs Clinton, pray to God... she could decide to bring the democracy to Nigeria, the way she did to Iraq, Libya etc.
TravelRe: Dana, ADC & Sosoliso Ban: Airline Operators Want Ban Lifted by gator666: 11:11pm On Jul 26, 2012
In case of Dana, what if... what if the kerosene was contaminated? Maybe DANA's maintenance is not the world class one, but in the case of DANA crash in Lagos, what if it was someone/something totally out of DANA's control that caused the crash? Multiple (or all) engine failure is an extremely rare situation. It can be either that the plane runs out of fuel, that the fuel is contaminated, that the plane has suffered a multiple bird strike (such was the one that landed on Hudson river some years ago), that the plane passed through the cloud of volcanic ash (case of B747), etc. Faults on fuel system of a plane can hardly cause such problem, because it is not a single pump that pumps the kerosene. Once again, it is not always the plane or its crew that causes the disaster.

Approx. 245 km/h, on German Auto-Bahn, 4 years ago. It was scary. If anything went wrong, oh well, I guess I would not be posting here now.

The one who sleeps with the kids, wakes up wet.

On a serious note, wait till she graduates. If she still wants you (and you only), fine. If not, fine too.

Almost every man is capable of making a baby. However, not every man is capable of caring for his kids in a way that will, one day, give properly brought up young people.

Why would ANYONE give a **beep** (put an insult of your choice) for anything that anyone on Big Brother does or does not do?! Will our lives become so much better just because we follow the developments there? LOL.

BusinessRe: How I Can Sue Gtbank For N250,000,000? by gator666: 9:07am On Jul 13, 2012
Back in 2006:

1. UBA was advertising they can produce your debit card within 2 to 3 weeks. It took them well over 3 months to deliver mine.

2. I had to make a single transaction, while abroad, of about @2100. Knowing enough about daily limits and stuff, I asked my account officer at UBA if that will be possible with their card, and if it is not, I can still carry cash. He confidently said "Yes, it is very possible". It is not my duty to know what limits they put on their cards, but his. Still, he had no clue that the daily limit for my card is $500.

3. When I was abroad, and just a couple of days before returning to Nigeria, I have tried to purchase items for mentioned $2100. Transaction failed. And again, and again. Customer support in Lagos had no idea what I am talking about when I called them.

4. All in all, I was forced to withdraw the $500 from the ATM for the next 5 days, which is not too expensive but still costs money. Since it was my last day of stay, I had to leave the cash with my relatives to purchase the item(s) and send them through the DHL, which was everything but cheap.

5. Knowing it is a debit card (common sense says you can spend the amount up to what you have on your account) I expected th have available for purchases all the money on the account (minus minimum balance, but that is ok). To my surprise, 25% of the money was always reserved as the collateral. Collateral for what when I can't spend more than I have anyway?!?!?!?!

All in all, my experience with UBA costed me some $450 of my own money, and to this day some money is still on my account (now dormant). Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

The biggest theft they commit is on internet services. You load, for instance, N500, and subscribe for 24 hours/150 MB. Then, there is no way to connect for longer than 1-2 seconds. And even if you connect, the speed is near zero. Thievery corporation.
Foreign AffairsRe: Anderson Cooper Admits That He's Gay by gator666: 11:51am On Jul 03, 2012
Anderson Cooper was never hiding the fact that he is gay. Just that that he did not constantly blab about that, as most of gays do today.

What annoys me a lot more than simple grammatical errors is subtitles in Yoruba movies. Incomplete, with names in all capitals etc.

A lot of genuinely good people, with a bunch of those working hard to spoil the good picture.

A lot of good customs, which we Europeans should adopt.

A lot of good food which is, sadly, too spicy for me wink

And, let me not forget, former Miss World coming from Kalabari land.

TravelRe: Why Are Nigerians Tagged "Bad" In Most Foreign Countries. by gator666: 5:36pm On Jun 28, 2012
A society that praises the rich without questioning the sources of their wealth (i.e. 419, corruption etc), is not a healthy one. A society where the only thing that matters is to get rich, and not how (to do so) is not a healthy one.

I am pretty sure that the greatest majority of Nigerians are hard working and god fearing (and not god fearing just during Sunday morning service or Friday prayers, depending on the religion). However, when a minor minority commits all sorts of nasty stuff, whether at home or abroad, and the majority keeps quiet, that majority should not complain when it gets labelled as bad.

Btw, I work with a large group of Nigerians and they are quite nice people.

Why do (some) Africans say sometimes "You are an expat, you can figure this out" when we are facing some difficult problem?
