There’s NO requirement for geopolitical zones…
The Constitution only stipulates at least 1 per state (Section 147(3) of the Constitution).

Btw, I think that constitutional mandate is OBTUSE…
Ministers shouldn’t be “representing” states, and a cabinet of 36+ ministers is TOO MUCH (eg. The US has about 16).

You know how Nigeria is. Some people may cry marginalisation if they don't do it that way.

Sometimes maybe the most competent people known to the president are from few states and one tribe. If he appoints them all without federal character, other major tribes would definitely accuse him of tribalism or regionalism.

We just have to get matured politically because that needed maturity only comes when we watch football. Who cares if we win the world cup with an all star urhobo team or Kanuri team for instance?

Congratulations to the super falcons, 3 points in the bag!
The coaching crew deserve all the accolades here. They read the game very well and their substitutions were all on point.
Technically, the Aussies dominated the game but the team effort from the super falcons contained them.
This was not the best of Kanu's game. Her only contribution was the goal she scored. Never doubted her but it may serve the team better to have her come in as a super sub!
Rasheedat Ajibade is yet to find her rhythm in this tournament, maybe because this was her first match. She gave the team the needed bite upfront and at a point her frustration saw her playing out of position, running after every single ball. Never the smartest strategy in the game of football. It comes with a cost.
Still not impressed with Alozie and Plumtree. Plumtree had a decent first half but was always caught off guard several time. Luckily, the Aussie team did not maximize this to their advantage.
Ohale you are a darling. Reminds me of Christain Chukwu and Taribo, strictly business no fancy play, a major issue with Alozie. Keep doing your thing.
Overall, I see great potential in this team. If they can fix these little rough edges here and there, they can go all the way.
Till then...it's a wrap!
For some reason, I think both Alozie and Plumtree should be tried in any midfield position (not in this tournament though).
I will like to see Desire Oparanozie, Asisat and Rasheedat play together.
Alozie especially should be tried in midfield or as a winger. Plumptree plays centre back normally and that's her major area but because the coach would not want to drop Captain Onome, he's switched her to the wing back role.

Happy for Prof Pate. He is a thorough bred. Kudos to Tinubu for that but he is still seating on a fraudulent electoral mandate. Thank goodness former Atiku Badaru and Gandollar didn't enter that list.
He had to find way to reward Gandollar somehow by making APC former chairman step down and setting up Gandollar to be APC chairman.

That ranking is the old ranking. Not current.
Do you know that it's Asari Dokubo's militia that's guarding Abuja Kaduna road ?
The same road where many of the generals were killed even with their military convoys.
Asari and his boys are fighting militants in Niger state too. Even in Anambra and Imo state.
The same Abuja Kaduna road that our military are running away from, complaining of inadequate arms, Asari Dokubo's militia with their pump action are holding it
So much for a useless army.
What is the current ranking?

They're a smaller country by wealth but their army is more efficient than that of Nigeria for now.
You guys are funny. The only reason Bokoharam became a thing was that when they started they had sympathy of the people and Northern elites and the mingling amongst the people made the battle unconventional.
Make no mistake, Nigerian army is ranked 4th in Africa.

I think you and garfield1 are misconstruing the whole scenario. That Tinubu has no pending case, does that take away that there was a case against him that had been thrashed by the US' court, which he himself refused to appeal after the whopping sum was drawn from his bank account.
Since the money has been withdrawn from his account which serves as a proceed of the crime, do you expect the system to say they still have case against him? Or you people are insinuating that no case of such against him? Thankfully, Tinubu's star witness agreed that the money withdrawn was a proceed from narcotic as stated in the court proceeding.
Except that in this case there was no charge or conviction against Tinubu, so you cannot say he is not qualified according to Section 137.
He is not Under Sentence of dishonesty or fraud (which is a criminal conviction in Law).

In the American Civil forfeiture case in the final judgement, his Heritage Bank was written as the defendant while he and his family became the claimants which is in line with normal civil forfeitures where the law is not interested in whether the person committed a crime but that the property was linked to a crime and should be ceased by Government.

Don't confuse yourself. A case happened in 1993 and was well recorded. Then a purported document released in 2003 said there was no such case at any point in time which you people are standing on. Then in 2022 the court papers were published. How you guys want us to accept 2003 'report' as the fact when the publication from the US court on the matter is in public domain is what beats me. Let us even assume that the 2003 report by the FBI or what agency was it, was authentic, don't you know about emerging facts or fresh evidence? It can set a man free from jail or convict a previously discharged and acquitted person.
You are confusing yourself. What came out in 2022 was a recycling of what was there in 1993.

The 2003 report makes it clear that Tinubu has no criminal record or warrant for arrest in the U.S.

That paper from 1993 recycled in 2022 doesn't show that he was charged with a crime or convicted which confirms the report in 2003. So nothing like fresh evidence or facts coming out except you are saying the case have been reopened by the U.S courts in 2022.

Shettima's Double nomination.

Dual citizenship of Tinubu.
Lol. Shettima's so called double nomination would be the first to be thrown out because it was already thrown out by supreme court in May. Supreme court said APC submitted before them a letter dated 6th July by APC to INEC on the withdrawal of Shettima in order for him to be nominated as running mate to Tinubu.

There is also the law of Locus Standi which means as long as it's not a constitutional matter then it's an internal affair of the party which means only an APC member who was going to contest for the position of vice president or Senator can sue Shettima.

Dual citizenship of Tinubu?? Lol.

Hi! Please see attached especially the bolded - which I had not seen as of the time I was responding to you. This was my thinking and I believe it will work if it can be sustained. Based on my poor estimation of pent-up demand, I forsee an injection of $1.5-2bn, and that price discovery for the USD will be in the mid to higher $ 600 range. The caveat is that we are in the summer season when foreign school fees and overseas medical procedure demand in USD are high.
Apart from that, there are backlogs to be paid. Airlines are still owed 800 million dollars. Also, Government just paid 500 million dollars Eurobond debt from 2013.

Exactly.

There right there, is the crux of the matter. There simply isn't enough dollars available. And that is not going to change anytime soon. If anything, it's going to get worse.
So if you agree there isn't enough dollars available why do you want CBN to keep holding the rate at 460 naira? They defended that 460 naira with 17 Billion dollars of scarce reserves last year and there was lots of round tripping. Foreign investors also were not sure at what rate they could get their profits back.

The black market rate as at an hour ago is 858 naira.
The official rate as at an hour ago is 793 naira.

Is that a difference of less than 30 naira?
I said until two weeks ago we could still call it converged. Sometimes the black market rate is based on speculation.
CBN can simply ignore it once there is enough dollars available for everyone at the official rate like it is elsewhere.

Brotherly, you just lied.

That balance only lasted for about 10 days after the pronouncement. The black market rate started to race away by about 6 naira on the 11th day, and it's been a consistent widening since then.

I'm not one of these random nairaland users who yap on issues out of sentiments. Even with the injection of dollars into the system from our reserves, the impact has remained subliminal because the currency demand is stupendously higher than the supply and availability.
A black market rate of not more than 30 naira difference with the official can still be called converged. It doesn't have to be 5 naira difference before we call it converged.

Convergence is the right word between the official FX or CBN rate and the open market (Black market).

But where we had different official rates prior to the currency flotation, unification was the word to achieve a common rate. The common rate was supposed to converge and maintain balance with the open market.

Has that been achieved?
That was achieved until the last two weeks. Still too early to judge.

Go and read Shonubi's press release from his yesterday's meeting, then come back and tell me what I lack understanding about.

As regards certain delicate issues, I do not involve in discussions with people who sling insults instead of proper facts. That I did not elucidate between the CBN and I&E rates in my write-up is because this disparity no longer exists.

But your acting CBN governor says the intended purpose of the policy was not unification, when it was lucidly spelt out that that was the very purpose from the beginning.

Go and read his words to the press.
I don't have to read what I watched live.
He said convergence is the right word and like I explained when it comes to parallel market, convergence is the right word not unification.

Shonubi has just removed the rug from under the feet of his employer.

The week Tinubu made the pronouncement of currency liberalisation, he specifically spoke on the unification of exchange rates between the open market and the official FX window. He sounded so cock-screw certain of the terminologies he was reeling out that his minions were applauding with gusto.

Couple of weeks down the line, the disparity in rates between the open market and the FX window is spiralling out of control to the point these clueless people are already dipping hands into the external reserve just to keep up with the FX demands of the market. So, not only are prices of basic necessities blowing through the roof, our reserves have lost over a billion dollars in the space of 2 months.

You cannot seek to put control over the spread or usage of a currency you do not produce, especially in an economy that depends on that very currency. I am not an economist from Chicago University, neither am I in an acting capacity at the CBN, but I have the intelligence to read and study situations and the common sense to acknowledge the truth of a situation.

If the Nigerian economy doesn't crumble in six months, going along this particular trajectory, then I'll know my education was a waste.
You lack understanding on this. Previously we had several official rates ie CBN rate and the I&E window. Now everything official has collapsed into the I&E window.
When it comes to the parallel market, you can only speak of convergence not Unification.

By accepting on his behalf whether truly or not that he received monetary gifts from criminals, you make the case worse for Tinubu my dear brother. Don't ever say that in any court if they happen to use you.😀 Read up on ''guilty by association" and also "the vicarious law of liability" .
Well that's how civil forfeitures work in the U.S. You are not guilty of the crime but you received money linked to the crime. That money is taken by Government without a criminal charge filed against you. There are millions of cases like that in the U.S and it's common.

Read what you wrote up there again, or let your children read it for you and see if that makes any sense. No indictment, no charge, no trial and someone can just be called up and asked to forfeit his asset? It doesn't happen in a banana republic.
In a civil forfeiture, the focus is not to prove your guilt or innocence. Rather the focus is to prove that your property should be ceased by the Government. Your property was linked to illegal money one way or the other and therefore should be ceased whether you were guilty of the illegality or not.

A criminal forfeiture is punishment for a crime which you were convicted of. In that case, you are the focus and you are named as the defendant in the final case, not your account or property ceased.

Tinubu claimed he received money from a friend (family friend to his wife known as Akande). The court didn't go the extra mile to determine if he was part of the drug dealers, since the drug dealers (Akande's two younger brothers) who were earlier prosecuted did not mention his name. He got involved in the case because they traced every penny from the Akande brothers and traced funds to Tinubu's account as well. Tinubu was in Nigeria then and admitted he did receive 8 thousand dollars as gift from senior Akande which he used to buy a car in 1989. Account was frozen and in the process of getting back his account, Tinubu forfeited money according to U.S law on such forfeitures.

The court did not go ahead to establish that Tinubu himself was part of the Akande drug ring in America or that he just received gifts from them, hence the sentence was just against the account to cease the property according to U.S law. They ceased just 460 thousand dollars and returned back 1.2 million dollars to him. This was probably a better deal for Tinubu than fighting his case with the Powerful U.S Government to the latter in order to get back all his cash. He may have ended up losing everything with the case still inconclusive for years.
