MrBrownJay1:On point. Only poor men try to dictate to rich men how the rich men should spend their own money. I have NEVER come across a well-to-do man telling someone that spending on sex. It is always poor men, and the worst are those who are thoroughly poorly educated monkeys. |
Additionally, Covenant University has risen up the ranks to be one of the country’s most preferred universities. This was a university that many ignorant Nigerians lampooned for producing too many “half baked” first class graduates. The humdrum and stoopid axiom of a first class from CU is equivalent to a 2.1 from UNILAG or OAU or let the first class from CU come to my university to repeat the feat, make I see how e go dey possible” was peddled recklessly. I mentioned here that Covenant University will be Nigeria’s Harvard where even diasporans will send their children to study as a way to understand Nigeria better. Although, the charismatic man behind it - Bishop Oyedepo - can be brash at times, but you see this Covenant University’s project of his? He deserves the accolades. In 2017: Gerrard59: Gerrard59: Gerrard59:All secondary schools are equal, but some are more equal than others. Jephthah Schools, Ambassadors College, Loyola Jesuit, Graceland International Schools and the numerous Catholic-managed schools are good breeding grounds for academic excellence. I do understand that students from the likes of British International College, Grange Schools or the elite of elite secondary schools in Nigeria rarely write JAMB, but focus on SAT and IGSCE. However, I admire the earlier aforementioned schools for their academic excellence and moral upbringing. Ambassadors College and Loyola Jesuit tend to dominate WASSCE rankings, but that will require separate research on its own. For Ndi diasporans, I dare say Loyola Jesuit College is a better option than public and private schools in the US, Canada or UK or even Germany. The children get the academic knowledge, and moral upbringing (a boy is a boy and not the other way round) and they get to be amongst people who look like them during their nascent years. Generally, schools managed by the Catholic Church tend to be very good. This is a global phenomenon. Kudos to the Catholic Church. The United States attracts the world’s best and brightest. No wonder she is the world’s greatest country. China, which I admire, tries but cannot try enough. The singular act of being able to get the best and brightest from all countries to study at your universities and participate in your economy is a bragging right and makes the US a superpower. The route to eventual naturalisation is tough though and it is a lottery system (https://www.nairaland.com/7535720/nigerian-students-now-americans-how). Marriage is the surest path because, without it, you fit sabi book yet find yourself kicked out because you don’t have the right visa or passports (some passports are more equal than others in accessing the US labour market). For a Black African and I dare say Black person anywhere, the US is the best place to thrive and succeed financially. No wonder African Americans are the richest set of black people globally. In 2017, there were conflicting reports about the highest scorers with Ariori Ibrahim Olabode coming top with 375, Iworiso Blessing coming behind with 316 and Felix-Ngige Chukwuebuka being the third at 315. Unfortunately, I could not find anything about them. Also, I am sceptical of the scores considering the gap between the first and second scorers. When compared to other years, the chasm is too wide. That said, the score by Ariori Ibrahim Olabode was shown to be false: https://www.nairaland.com/3820763/meet-16-year-old-boy God bless Nigeria! |
The lure of Medicine and Surgery declined in recent years compared to previous years. For instance, if the profile of Yusuf Bala Abdullahi is correct, it makes him the only non-medical doctor scholar in that year. Then fast forward to 2019 (before Covid), only one medicine and surgery scholar. Move to 2020 and none pursued medicine and surgery. The same occurred in 2021. The top scorers in WASSCE aka WAEC has to be researched to compare with JAMB scholars from those years to know if academically excellent students are not interested in Medicine and Surgery as a course to study. Money is everything. Money made Utuk Uwakmfon Joseph accomplished more academically and career-wise than his fellow stellar achievers. To illustrate this, Ojuba Mezisashe Shalom chose Covenant University as where she would prefer to study but is now at Howard University. As an alumna of Loyola Jesuit, it is certain her parents are well-to-do to sponsor her either to HU or through the process (SAT, TOEFL, visa application, flight fees etc) to get a scholarship to study there. The same could be said for Soladoye Damilola Faith who got into the UK as his BSc was at Covenant University, a private university. What money cannot do, more money can do. The penetration of the Internet and social media made it quite easy to get results from successive years. It also seemed like Nigerians got more intelligent in 2015. Furthermore, it is important these people or those close to them know how to position their profiles on the Internet. Basically, they should have an online image to present even if they prefer to be private. The 2020 achievers did well. Three out of five have LinkedIn profiles; Ojuba Mezisashe Shalom, Elikwu Victor Chukwuemeka and Maduafokwa Egoagwuagwu. Although no picture of the former, but the latter has. For both, I am sure it is because of their locations, siblings studying abroad for the former and internship at Meta for the latter. Others should do the same. Being among the highest scorers in any country’s universities’ entrance examination is not a mean feat. These people go on to make exploits. The South West is the most preferred region for these students, even for non-Yorubas to study in. This further corroborates what I have written here: indisputably, the South West has the best universities in Nigeria. Also, Nigeria’s most prestigious private universities are located in the region. Thus, she attracts the best and brightest. Unsurprisingly, it is Nigeria’s most prosperous region (apart from Abuja) as adjudged by the Economist Magazine (https://www.economist.com/middle-east-and-africa/how-kidnappers-zealots-and-rebels-are-making-nigeria-ungovernable/21805737).

COMMENTARY: One of the reasons I did this compilation is to know what were/are the trajectories of exceptionally brilliant students who made exploits nationwide. It is an area I am very passionate about. For instance, does a high WASSCE score mean the person can/will attain a high JAMB score? Consider Seunara Arotiba, currently a medical student at UI, was the best WAEC candidate in 2018 with 8As, scored 305 in JAMB. Meanwhile, Obi-Obuoha Abiamamela scored 354 and came third in WAEC rankings (https://twitter.com/JOwoleke/status/1197984452573646849?s=20). Another was Adeagbo Michelle Oluwabukunmi who came second in WAEC rankings in the same 2018, but probably never wrote UTME. Currently a medical student at the University of Debrecen in Hungary. He was a student of Chrisland High School. Yet another is Victory Yinka-Banjo who in 2020 made waves after attaining 9As in her WASSCE, but had 335 in her UTME. She is currently a sophomore studying Computer Science and Molecular Biology at MIT, USA: https://www.linkedin.com/in/victory-yinka-banjo/ Ayodele Dada Daniel, the 5.0 CGPA graduate of Psychology from UNILAG, what were his WASSCE grades? (He did enter via direct entry, so no JAMB). What about Aminat Yusuf, who graduated with a 5.0 CGPA in Law from LASU, what were her WASSCE grades? What did she score in JAMB? BTW, Aminat is a legal intern at Olaniwun and Ajayi: https://www.linkedin.com/in/aminat-yusuf-3970051a4/?originalSubdomain=ng and Ayodele Dada is a Knight Hennessey Scholar at Stanford University: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ayodele-ayo-dada-stanford/ So, questions come to mind: are stellar WASSCE grades a prerequisite for a very high JAMB score (350+)? Which would you use to predict someone’s academic performance in the university, stellar grades in WASSCE or a very high JAMB score? Going forward, these are questions I seek answers to.

I saw this thread (https://www.nairaland.com/7752744/meet-highest-jamb-scorers-last) about the top scorers in JAMB in a decade, and as an admirer of academic excellence, I thought about where these scholars are today. The mini-research brought about interesting results, which I explained after the compilation. Officially known as UTME, but popularly known as JAMB, the organising body. It is the exam Nigerian students write to gain admission into universities nationwide. For easy understanding, both JAMB and UTME will be used interchangeably. I could not find anything for some people, so it is stated as “nothing was found”. In few cases, I was not sure, so no definitive statement was stated. If you know such persons, kindly comment. JAMB score is: /400 2013; 2014;

The surprising thing is that women are actually supporting this nonsense. Many Nigerian ret@rded feminists would have joined if not Sugarbaddie, who really campaigned on Twitter for them not to join as it erodes women's rights. What these women don't know is that actual misogynists are delighted by this atrocity because it further removes women from the centre. A time will come men will change gender to women and compete for jobs, thereby benefitting from the numerous quotas women are enjoying. On the other hand, Africa can benefit from this anomaly. I recall Caster Semenya was said to have high testosterone, so she cannot compete with "women". That was a racially motivated judgement. But with this new development, simply enter DRC or Congo Republic, pack abobis, pay them good money to convert to "women", train them and send them to international competitions to compete as women. When these mad oyibos see black people take advantage of the abnormality they are promoting, they will change the rules. Since they want to be mad, teach them how to be mad. |
grandstar:Actually, over the past seven years, private universities have improved in quality. This is especially so with Covenant University, Babcock, ABUAD etc. I want to believe there is a transfer program in those aforementioned universities since a significant proportion of their students are children of Nigerian diasporans. I recalled a girl who finished with a first class from CU has her family based in Germany. For parents who want to ensure their children live amongst people who look like them after spending their teenage years in the abroad, sending them to reputable private universities in Nigeria makes sense. In fact, with the foolish LGTV nonsense, better sending a child to Loyola Jesuit College over a public school in the West. Also, sending a child abroad to study depends on the country and the university's ranking. In my opinion, it is totally pointless to send a child to Fisk University or Hull University. Universities in Eastern Europe can be understood due to the affordability of their medical programs. But with the war in Ukraine, not all countries are worth it. Way better to send a child to a Chilean university, work in the country and obtain a superior passport than to Bradford University. As for the US, anything outside R1 university or the top HBCUs na money miss road. |
LikeAking:You don't have the money. Stop talking like a foolish mad man. All this I will not do this even if I have the money. You just don't have it! So, those who are spending it don't have sense, abi? It is you that has one? If so, why have you not made money as well? BTW, tertiary education in most parts of the world is very expensive. The places where the fees are affordable have high taxes to fund the system, small populations and specialist universities with high academic standards. For instance, tuition fees in Swiss universities are low, but many drop out in the first year due to how tough the academic programs are. Lastly, there is nothing wrong with spending good money on quality education, especially during secondary school. The number of foolish posts and comments I read from many young Nigerians tell me they were poorly educated or malnourished when they were young. They reason so stoopidly! |
bjdon:In my opinion, it is those diasporans who grew up in those areas that stay there when they visit Nigeria. If one was not based in those areas before leaving Nigeria when visiting, why stay in those places? The prices quoted reflect the cost of living. Lagos is Nigeria's most expensive state. |
Brownshoe:But the majority of men who cheat are married men including okada riders and well-to-do folks. I have seen it all. My parents made their wealth by owning hotels which I managed. In fact, the men who I thought were single were actually married and had many side chicks. All my regular customers are married men. I met pastors, including popular ones bringing women to fvck. They had my direct number. In fact, when I am not in the city, they become angry because I know how to treat them very well. I was coordinating women for these men, and one thing that unified all is their marital status: married. None is single. Matured man go dey gist with me say him wife no gree am fvck. Or one who told me he is married and showed me his wife's and children's pictures. I have seen it all which is why una rantings against side chicks or men who patronise them make me laugh. It is men like you with preek and who have plenty money that sustains the hookup industry. I can write a book on how our men go all the length just to fvck. Men from all walks of life. So, shove the talk about womaising one side. |
MrBrownJay1:You should understand by now that the majority of Nigerians are educated illiterates who missed economics classes during their secondary school days. They really irritate me. If I had not attended public schools right from nursery school days, I would have said it is the system. But these people, including on Twitter, where one would have thought otherwise, are just too poorly educated. |
illicit:The Nairalander and most Nigerians I know here came via the university-recommendation MEXT scholarship. Only one came in via the Embassy route, which is the most competitive. The same applies to other sub-Saharan Africans, and when I ask them for their profiles, na first class, already have a masters etc. The Nigerian girl I met is also a first class graduate. She said it is not strictly for first class, but go to LinkedIn and do your search, all MEXT scholars via the embassy route had a first class or masters and then applied for another masters. So, just putting it out here so that future applicants know what they are up against. Nairalander is Chaiks: https://www.nairaland.com/chaiks/posts |

GreatKingg:I have actually seen job ads stating salaries as high as one million dollars per annum. It is only possible in the US because Switzerland does not come close. |
AloyalNigerian:Congratulations. Now that you are in the US, explore routes to obtain permanent residency. You are in the system already. By 2030, all things being equal, you quote me with your US passport. ![]() Gerrard59:I gats open church, I swear. ![]() |
LordAdam16:I read it then. That thread came to my mind when I read the reply. Warri elites failed them, nothing else. Generally, Nigerian elites have failed their citizens, but some have failed more than others. Currently, the southeast elites are doing their round of abominable failure. |
steadyMoving22:Made in Nigeria goods for a global market, not for the Nigerian market. You produce according to the standards your customers require. |
Genea:Made in Nigeria goods can be cheaper in the long run when the production scale has increased. It can be tough for new businesses, but producing in Nigeria for a global market is cheaper as the currency is devalued against the dollar, labour is cheap, and raw materials are abundant. If you were not properly taught Economics in secondary school, that is your school's fault, not mine. |
atheistandproud:Well, that is a problem associated with Warri. Too many people in that area have spoilt the area. In the state my parents live, there has been the extension of the middle class and upper class areas because land no dey again and house don full everywhere. Warri elites have failed their people and themselves. |
Gerrard59:https://www.nairaland.com/6390993/dont-relocate-billionaire-nigeria-fantasy https://www.nairaland.com/6035550/nigerians-poverty-certain-acts-perpetuate https://www.nairaland.com/3450586/poor-un-intelligent-people-should-not Even almost ten years ago, there is nothing happening today that I did not predict. |

|
Raalsalghul:You never lose betting against Nigeria. That said, the devaluation is not really a problem as it makes Made in Nigeria goods/products to be cheaper in the global market. Nigeria does not need a strong naira. We are not Switzerland or Singapore. |
pansophist:You have done a good job in teaching/informing folks about Western hegemony on Nairaland. Well done. That said, what do you think about the proposal? Why China, why not India Or Japan? What are the implications should China buy US bonds? What happens if China refuses to buy them? Any similarity with the Plaza Accord that decimated Japan's economy? |
pansophist:Honestly, the way Africans seem to have turned their back on the Chinese eh, it is disheartening. I was reading a post when Mia of Barbados visited China, you needed to read the bile her citizens had towards the Chinese, as if the Chinese were the ones who shipped them across the Atlantic. If blacks miss this opportunity to benefit from the Chinese, e don red be that o. They are the ones pushing for industrialisation in Africa, not the West. |
No wonder Warri is a sh!thole area. Instead of tackling armed robbery, cybercrime, unemployment and hooliganism, they try to police women's clothing. Nah! Some places can never make it. Some civilisations are doomed to be poor. All cultures are not equal. |
