Stop saying what you don’t know about Islam, you are the type of people that gets killed as a result of blasphemous acts or speeches in the north. You say things that triggers people, hiding behind the so called freedom of speech, yet you keep looking for trouble. If Muslims decide to run a jihadist progression programme in the south East, will the people there allow that to happen?. You don’t go to peoples comfort zones and just say you want to do something that’s contrary to their beliefs and you expect it to happen. Mr think we’ll before you write stuffs up.
But this woman is Yoruba, and that is where she comes from. Are you saying she has no right to practice her religious rites (which are Yoruba inspired) in her homeland?

Tensa20 already stated it here (https://www.nairaland.com/7307446/does-it-make-sense-go), going on dates as a young man in Nigeria does not make sense in the long run. Your money go finish. If na sex you want, you won't see it. You must consider the ROI before inviting a girl/lady out. I recall when I invited girls. Girl A, I invited her twice on dates. I chose the location and had a budget. I invited her because we shared a lot in common. Then the second was because I wanted to get to know her. For both, sex was not at the back of my mind. However, if you invite a girl out simply because you want sex, you are in trouble as it is not guaranteed. Rather do hookup. You cannot be going on dates anyhow.

As for paying for transport fare, I am opposed to it. I rather pay my way to your location than pay you for coming out. Use public transport, if you can't, please stay in your house. I used public transport in Nigeria even though my mom wanted me to drive her car often.

fineboynl:
most guys want a baddest shape babe, or classic babe or fleshy babe. It came at a price.

Even the local ones you still spends. Except you want to stoop too low.
Are you inviting baddies and in-shape babes out for dates because you want to chat with them or for sexual purposes? If it is the former, then why are you complaining? Does the ROI make sense to you strictly based on "discussing with baddies? If it is the latter, then paying them is appropriate. Strictly sex, and you move on. I don't see the sense in paying someone to visit me. I will cover the expenses during the date, not the transport fare.

Statements like these sound humble but upon closer inspection, you'll find out that they're not.

Dangote is the richest black man in the world. He spends a considerable amount of time abroad. If he spends a chunk of time in the US, why shouldn't he have a house there?

Note that the cost of him paying for hotels will be astronomical...I mean, he won't stay in a two star hotel. Calculate the amount of hotel fees, and cross it against purchasing a house and see whether it makes sense.

Also, every man has a weakness. For Bill Gates, it's philanthropy. For Bezos, it's it's $500 million yatch. For some, it might be vintage cars. For some, Oyster watches. For some, horses. For some, houses. For some, clothes.

Let's not judge people because we don't fancy their proclivities.
A very good point you made as most people especially poorly educated proletariat believe wealthy people don't buy luxury goods. The sam Dangote has a yatch, which is worth more than 250 million dollars.

as a very smart man once said:" its cheaper to own ONE home, and rent home for holidays, than buy a holiday home that you only use a few times a yr!"
Honestly, this is correct. I have analysed buying a holiday home and read comments from various people who toyed with the idea. The summary is that it does not make financial sense. It only makes financial sense if the house is in a hub (tourist or business) and gets leased out. Another issue with a holiday home is it ties one to a particular location whereas tourism has to do with exploration of places.

Based on this thread and with the chances of getting H1B (less than 20%), I dare say the majority of Nigerian students, especially those not pursuing PhD or Postdoc (very few since we don't target academia as a career as a result of the low salaries), either regularise their stay via marriage and/or being illegals in the long run. Marriage is pretty easy since there is an existing black population to immerse in than, say, Indians or Chinese who are more in number but don't have an ethnic population of 13% to marry from. I dare say if we were in the shoes of the Indians or Chinese as the highest in terms of international students, to regularise our stay no go hard as we will target African American females (more male Nigerian students are in the US than female). Someone stated on Twitter that black women in Atlanta are being "abused" in relationships because the dating scene is very competitive. More single black women than single black men. That is an existing market to tap in and collect Green Card. grin Way better than Canada when it comes to relationships if you ask me.

That said, with the low chances of getting H1B, I hope say una no dey use personal money to study arts, social science and humanities programs? huh

Jahlivesforever:
F-1 US VISA HOPEFULS:

ON SCHOOLING AND WORKING IN AMERICA
About schooling or living or working in America, I think a lot of people either live in bubbles or do not have quality information. So, I am going to do this once, and give as much information as I can, based off of my own limited experience and knowledge. Anyone with better information is free to complement or challenge what I say. “I know somebody who know somebody” is not information. That somebody you know might not be telling you the whole story.

1. To enter the US you need a visa, and there are different kinds – student visas (e.g. J-1 and F-1), fiancé visa (to come see your fiancé), spousal visa (for people who are married or coming to get married), H1-B visa (if a US employer employs you), etc.

2. As a student, whether on J-1 or F-1 you are only allowed to work 20 hours max a week, and usually on campus. Of course, there are students who exceed this work limit, usually working off-the-book, under-the-table jobs, which is illegal but not uncommon.

3. When you finish school as a student, if you are on an F-1 visa (usually for students who self-sponsor or are sponsored by the school through research assistantships, teaching assistantships, etc.) you are allowed to do a one-year OPT (optional practical training) – like an internship to practice what you learned in school. NOW LISTEN CAREFULLY. This OPT is usually ONE YEAR for F-1 students, but if you did a STEM course, your OPT can be up to THREE YEARS.

4. So, when you hear someone say they finished school and stayed back in the US, they are either doing their ONE YEAR or THREE YEARS OPT.

5. For students on J-1 (usually those sponsored by a government or some scholarship bodies like the World Bank, Fulbright, etc., which is my visa category), there is also the option of a ONE YEAR Academic Training (AT), which is the equivalent of the OPT that F-1 or self-sponsored students get. In many cases, J-1 visas have a condition for such students to go back to their countries immediately after their program, and for some countries, like Nigeria, stay back for two years, before they can come back to the US to work or live permanently. However, this does not mean you cannot visit or even study in the US during this period. In fact, you can get a new visa, say an F-1 for another program, however, that 2-year condition will still be waiting for you (legally speaking that is, though I hear people may be able to find a way around this, even though dem no dey talk the way clearly).
I hope you are still following me:

6. So, what happens after your ONE YEAR or THREE YEAR OPT? Some employer has to sponsor your visa (if I am not wrong, basically, get you a H1-B visa, which is a work visa) for you to stay back legally. And if this does not happen, what is your fate? See you, see your country. Again, legally. Please, I am not interested in what people do illegally to stay back in the US. So it is normal for people on OPT, who have not got sponsors yet, to be worried and in some cases desperate. Some people might decide to enroll in another program to remain in the US and delay doomsday. Note, you cannot get OPT twice for the same level of education. So if you get one for masters, you can only get another one after your PhD.

7. So, what are the options of staying back after school? Well, the straightforward one is getting an employer to sponsor your work visa (and this is not the easiest thing in the world). Outside this, a common one is marriage. People get married – real or fake, to stay back. “I know somebody, she just finished and she no come back”. Sister, your friend fit don marry tay tay, no tell you. I know people for my set wey as dem show from Africa within two semesters dem don marry before dem even focus on school. Fake marriage na money. I won’t go into the issues that are involved in that now. E no concern me. Real marriage, if una like una sef, then God bless una union.

8. Outside the easy-hanging fruit – marriage, loads of people stay back illegally. Their visas expire and they just stay back. What this means is that you are an illegal or undocumented (as Oyibo like to sugarcoat things) resident. This also means because you don’t have a work permit na only under-the-table, minimum wage kinda jobs you can be doing. Those jobs pay cash because the employer is also avoiding paying taxes to the government. Those jobs na sufferhead job of course, but if you convert your dollars to Naira, na big man you be. These are the kind of jobs that you apply in the morning and get before 12 o’clock o. Ehen.

9. Also, some undocumented people might be using a fake social security card or other people’s own to work. The thing with staying undocumented is that you cannot leave the US, because your visa is expired. As you leave like this, there is no way to come back in. Some of the people who stay abroad for donkey years and have not returned home may be illegal residents. “I know one man, since 20 years e never come back, even when im mama die, he no come.” That man fit dey undocumented and as he comot like this, gate don close.

I believe now you have a clearer picture.
So, if you are coming to school in the US and your goal is to remain back, here is a summary of things you need to know:

1. You most likely need to get an F-1 visa. If you come with J-1 like me, even if you decide to marry, you go still go do that your two years for Nigeria before you can come and live permanently with your wife here. If you don’t want to do that, you can switch to a visitor visa, but you cannot work with that kind of visa, unless you want to continue doing under-the-table for the rest of your life.

2. If you get an F-1, just know you have ONLY ONE YEAR after school, or THREE YEARS if your program is STEM. And in that time, if you don’t get an employer to sponsor you, (which is not impossible, but definitely not a MY CASE IS DIFFERENT matter), you will either go back or find one of the roundabout ways people use to stay back in America endlessly. There are pros and cons to roundabout ways as you should know by now.

3. Marriage is probably your surest bet – if you fall in love, whether willingly or by force, good for you, and if you want do arrangee marriage, still good for you.

IF I AM TO ADVISE PEOPLE LOOKING TO RELOCATE ABROAD THROUGH SCHOOLING…
Canada is definitely your best bet. Trust me, I honestly don’t get the hype about being in America.

Immigration in Canada is a way better package than it is in America – in fact, they cannot be compared. If you get a student permit for Canada, after school, you get the same number of years as the length of your course to stay back and find a job. So, if you do a one-year course, you get one year. In this time, you can file for permanent residency, and even if you don’t get it immediately, you can always extend your after-school stay until you get a permanent residency. So, for Canada, the hardest thing is getting a student permit, because immigration officials know that people just use school these days to come to Canada so they can stay back. A Canadian Study Permit is definitely more difficult to get than a US Student Visa, again, for obvious reasons. If you manage to get into school in Canada, if you want to stay back, this is almost a sure way to. In a few years you can get your permanent residency, and a few more years you can get your citizenship. As a permanent resident in Canada, your chances of getting jobs in the US are way higher, if na US dey hungry you last last.

And lastly, to find job after schooling in the US is not undoable, but in fact, like in many countries (as I suspect), it is not a walk in the park. Be prepared to do loads of applications (because there are thousands of people across all 50 states applying for those sweet jobs too). But if you want to finish school and work at McDonald’s feel free to relax. Nothing do you, your job sure.

ALL gave birth in the US, thereby making their children Americans. The same applies to musicians. It is the reason I am pissed when wicked misfits constantly vagabond this section opening their smelly mouth waaaaaa chanting that young people should not japa. You mean like Akin Alabi who hustled in the UK? Don Jazzy, who did the same? DBanj, whose dad is an ex-military officer that did the same? Mike Adenuga, who rode taxi in the US? What about Banky W whose mom worked in ExxonMobil, gave birth to him in the US and he studied at Corona Schools, the same school Osibanjo studied? Only for him to come and lie that his parents struggled, which is why they rented a flat in Yaba during the '70s. You mean the same Yaba that was home to the then middle class? shocked Or him being a Nigerian-American married to Adesuwa, a British-Nigerian? Or his friend, the pilot, a Canadian-Nigerian who is married to Toolz, daughter of the Oniru of Lekki, who is a British-Nigerian? Or her friend Stephanie Coker, a British-Nigerian, who is married to the younger brother of the co-founder of GTB, who too is a British-Nigerian? Or Mo Abudu who is a American/British-Nigerian and son studied at Duke University? Or her erstwhile employee presenter Zainab Balogun, another British-Nigerian who married an American-Nigerian? Or the other erstwhile employee I used to crush on - Cynthia Kamalu, who married a Nigerian-American? Or Iyin Aboyeji, whose wife is an American citizen, and father worked at ExxonMobil and whose sister studied in the UK? Or Hakeem-Bello, whose daughter studied at Harvard and Stanford and ALL members of his family are dual nationals between the UK and US? Or Nnamdi Kanu who is a British-Nigerian? Or Sunday Igboho who is a German citizen or Sowore who is an American citizen?

C'mon!

There is no Nigerian elite, dead or alive, that does not or did not have a second passport to ease travel whether for leisure or business or academic-related events. I have stated it recently that visa free access is hinged on wealth not race. The reason the olodos on Twitter think it is race is that sub-Saharan Africa is home to the largest number of black people, and as a result, many black Africans are denied visas. Even at that, citizens from countries like Namibia, Botswana, South Africa and even far-flung black-dominated places like Bahamas, Bermuda and Barbados don't face similar scrutiny as their contemporaries in sub-Saharan Africa. Have you seen African Americans complained that they were denied visas because of their skin colour? Are they not black people too? But woke olodos on Twitter don't understand simple economics, the reason they spend time chanting and whining that bOrDeRs ArE rAcIsT. As if they would offer unfettered access to a poor black stranger instead of Elon Musk. Except you want to have hope that sub-Saharan countries would be as rich as Malaysia before her citizens begin to enjoy visa-free travel.

As for returning to Nigeria, trust me, many would return. One reason many would return is the weather. The new wave of emigres lived in the tropics for at least 25 years, so it won't be easy to adjust to temperate climates. My friend in Canada complains about the same thing. She told me clearly "once I attain citizenship status and the passport, G59, I am out of this place". Again, the vast majority of Nigerian elites once worked or studied abroad. From Tayo who is Paga CEO (has American citizenship) to Segun Agbaje who also studied and worked in the US to Emi Lokan and many many others. What about Okechukwu Enelamah who studied Medicine at UNN and did his MBA at Harvard? He co-founded African Capital Alliance, Nigeria's first private equity firm. Ibe Kachikwu nko? Studied Law at UNN and went to Harvard for his MSc and PhD? There is even one I used to admire who studied at Cambridge University and started his consulting business in Lagos. He, too, just like his contemporaries, is a British-Nigerian. One might say Northern elites don't do the same. That is a very big fat lie! Which child of any Northern elite studied in Nigeria? Sanusi's children studied in the UK ditto for El-Rufai's. What about Buhari? He claimed to be poor before the 2015 elections. However, ALL his children studied in the UK. Do poor people's children study in the UK? Esp when they did not attend top schools that have lot of scholarships to offer? Let's not even go to the south, where Amaechi's son is in Canada or Okorocha's son who finished from University of Manchester?

The effects of having a second and, most importantly, a strong passport cannot be over-emphasised. To buttress it, before 2010, Nigerians could travel to 76 countries without obtaining a visa. Ten years later, it plunged to 46. What do the next ten years hold? DrCheif on Twitter narrated his experience when he visited one African country. Upon the usual show me your passport, he showed the official a Nigerian passport. Even though it is visa-free for Nigerians (e fit don change sef), the official dilly-dallied. As time was going, Cheif brought out his American passport and showed the official. What did the official say? "You should have brought this out in the first place". Today, Cheif stays in Ghana.

It was until he brought his American passport that the official stated "You should have brought ut this in the first place". The UK government sponsored this dude to the London School of Economics, then later became the first black man on the board of directors at Apple. Now, he is complaining about japa. Why did he not return immediately after his sponsorship to LSE? Why the heck does he think those who have japa'd recently won't return? Worst of all, he moved to Ghana, whereas most who japa'd will return to Nigeria in the nearest future.

Nigeria's population is way too much, and people leaving affords those at home to replace them. In 2020, the average number of jobs on Nigerian LinkedIn was 10K. Now, it is 5K. Yet the population has ballooned! Those who left will bring greater capital and higher valued skills into the economy. He should encourage the movement and even suggest that the government sign Working Holiday visas with developed countries so that people go out to find jobs. That is what Indian elites are doing - signing with Germany, UK and now Australia.

This man comes across as someone who will advise a naive mentee to study at Ashesi University, which is ridiculously expensive in a country with less than ten thousand jobs, instead of a university in Brazil with over 450K jobs.

Then can you explain with hypergamy those ladies (I know many) who meet unemployed men, marry them and help them secure a job? Is that also hypergamy?.
Exception not the norm. Not too common. We have to assess it as per a research paper. I need to see the data behind your claim on a wider scale. The current data (widely available on the net) show that most women marry men who earn more than they (women) do.

I am not saying all men should be rich (not mathematically possible), but an unemployed man should focus on getting a job rather than finding love in a highly capitalistic society. He can control finding a job, not finding love. As I opined, it is easier to find love with black women born and bred in Canada because those are at the apex of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs rather than fellow immigrants who toiled to migrate as single women, not married. They will have higher standards for men they want, especially a first generation man like OP. The same OP might find it difficult to meet up with their ethical standards as per no be fellow Nigerian women or have his ego bruised.

It could be how I was raised and what I witnessed growing up, but the only women I can rely on financially without issues are my mom and sister. But then let's ask ourselves, why is OP interested in finding love at this point in his life? Is it love that took him to Canada?

Secondly, talking based on purely science here, no religion. There is a scientific reason nature made man to be polygamous. If you study the way the chimpanzee lives in the wild, it is closely related to how humans also existed before the technology started taking over. Humans were designed to be social animals that live in groups of not more than 50 people. It is technology that made it possible to exceed this number. So what happens when we exceed this number? War. If you look at the chimpanzee, you will see how a clan go to war with another clan. In a war situation, the men are expendable and the female is the most important gender that can easily repopulate the clan. For this reason females don't go to war. They are to be protected at all cost. If in any event war gets to the females and they had to start defending themselves then that is the end of that clan. Even if there are fewer men left after battle, the females will quickly repopulate the clan in order for them to withstand the next onslaught by any clan.
Interesting update about the lives of lower primates. To add, the major scientific reason is testosterone. The hormone makes a man produce millions of sperm cells daily. The most enjoyable and effective means of dispensing these cells is via sexual intercourse. So, biologically, a man is not supposed to have sex with only one woman for the rest of his life. In Davido's case, vasectomy solves the issue.

Omho budget like 10 million o with current exchange rate. From next year e fit cost pass.
I don't if it costs more than the German route, but the end justifies the cost. No one is told to wait a year before getting an appointment to attend an interview at the German embassy (visa issuance is not guaranteed o). The PR is rest assured and the most juicy of it all, the Chilean passport affords one access to the US and Canadian labour markets as if the applicant is a citizen. No H1B or LMIA issues.

Also, Spanish is way easier to learn and has more speakers in rich places (unlike French) than German.

When going into any kind of partnership, what you need is value and it means what the partnership needs that you have. It is not always money. Not everything is money, some people don't need more money than they already have and there have been people who turned down opportunities to make money. There are people that chose austerity over prosperity including both men and women. There are many things on offer outside money especially when poverty is not the problem of the intending partners
Unfortunately, in the eyes of Nigerian women in Canada, he is currently poor as he does not have a job. I don't know why you people are running away from reality. This dude is unemployed. In Nigeria, the same calibre of women will not touch him with a pole, then he expects them to do the same in Canada? C'mon! Values come after the economics have been settled, not before. It is Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs.

If he gets a job with Google tomorrow, those same ladies will give him an audience even though he has a Nigerian passport. That is how relationships have worked for donkey years. My issue is that he refuses to accept this FACT. Now, he believes his best chances are with women in Nigeria, which is true. But largely because he is based in Canada. Meanwhile, in same Nigeria, there are men like him who have not been given an audience by the same women who he (OP) will target.

H for HYPERGAMY. Why is this too difficult to accept? Tell me, what does this man bring to the table? Mind you, we are talking about Nigerian women who were BORN and BRED in Nigeria, not those who were born and bred in Canada. These women know Nigerian men better than other women. So, what the heck is he bringing to the table? I love you, oya, talk your own?

It sounds unfair to men just starting life, but that is life, it has never been fair.

You are so obsessed with "hypergamy".

Every woman is hypergamous whether here or in Nigeria. Every woman wants a man that is doing well and can take care of them when need be.

So what you're saying doesn't matter.
You knew this, yet you stated this?

Alchemist01:
Lmao, so the fact that I don't have money or car means I should give uphuh

Maybe I would just date someone back home, afterall I am traveling later this year.
Again, I repeat, you don't have a table. If you like hit on your head against the wall in Canada, those Nigerian girls with Canadian residency would not look at your face. You might even be lucky with black ladies who were born and bred there, but with first-generation Nigerian girls wey sabi the A - Z of how Nigerian men behave? What do you want to tell her that she does not know?

You claim to know that women need good life, but here you are lamenting that Nigerian girls are not interested in you. Like I do write on Nairaland, na Bolu and Amaka una go return to marry. grin

And a major reason she will accept your interest is because you reside in Canada. That is the hypergamy in relationships. You need to understand the world for what it is rather than what you think it should be.

Yes, I was a student, just graduated. But trying to date here has been a struggle session. And even though I dated a white girl briefly, I don't see myself settling down with one, I prefer Nigerian girls but the ones I have met here have an attitude kinda like they are better than you.

I don't have much rn i.e car house etc and currently interviewing for full time jobs but I don't think that should deter me from finding love. But I guess I am just not lucky.
Young men these days still believe in love? grin grin What you have is hypergamical transaction in place. If you had say a US passport, those Nigerian ladies who declined your interest will swoon over you.

As it is, you bring nothing to the table. That is the truth. In fact, you don't have a table.
