Desola:Na wa o. so this is how somebody's father chooses to cement his name in history. Thank God he is not my father, I would have disowned him. Orubebe meaning: "to rudely interrupt an important meeting throwing tantrums like a little kid which may attract scoldings from a mature, wiser adult". Wow!! The guy has indeed carved a name for himself (so did Orubebe). I see int'l appointments and award showered on him from all corners of the world. ![]() |
usbcable:I will rather vote a man that is linked to Tinubu since history tells us such links usually produce brilliant governance. But I will do everything within my power to discourage anyone from voting a man that is not only linked with Bode George. Infact it is a well-known fact that Agbaje is a product of rigged PDP primary. So what else can come from such a candidate order than fraud? |
Dumb. And the tribalism did not playout just 4yrs ago when GEJ won 5 out of 6 state in SW not minding the fact that pastor Bakare is a yourba man. What about the SE and SS that also voted for Yar'Adua in 2007. Did anybody cried and accuse them of tribalism? What about the western countries that tactically withdrew their support for GEJ administration? Were they also tribalistic? GEJ lost the election because he was too myopic/naive and thought he can rig himself back to Aso rock with the magic numbers from SS/SE as he did in 2011. Also, much as I appreciate the fact that he conceded defeat, I am not going to congratulate him because as far as I am concerned, he had no choice. He alienated himself from the people that can truly back him if he wanted to contest the inec result. He was part of the team that saw Gbagbo off, so he knew what awaits him. He knew he doesn't have any kind of support from the army if the chips are down. So it was a pretty simple and straight forward choice for him to make. And I am tempted to say Abdulsallam must have told him these facts and also make him realise that people are likely to forget all the evils he did if he just behave himself and concede defeat (just like we forgot all the money Abdulsallam himself chopped). But I will give it to him for seeing the hand writing on the wall and not trying anything fo0lish. Whatever award int'l community want to give him is osk sha. |
funstufz:omg! thanks for reminding me of that song! Do you know/remember the name of the artiste and track? |
laplace12:Betrayal? In what sense? Is it because GEJ gave the outlaw militia group OPC security contract? That is even enough rason for sensible people to boot him out. How can a president be financing militia group so late in his tenue just to intimidate the people in order to return to office. The money could have been put to better use to generate employment for the army of jobless graduates some of whom died in NIS scam. BTW, they gave him support in 2011 even though there was no reason to suggest they had anything to gain from that support. So, it is now an act of betrayal for voting for someone else based on the poor performance of the current government. The entire south can still repeat what they did in 2011 if their is a credible candidate from SS, SE or SW. So stop crying because of hate and ethnicity. |
This is the ret@rded line of thinking that made GEJ to lose this election. No region can single handedly bring its kinsman to power. This is the fatal error that GEJ and SE didn't realise. Statement like it is the votes of Igbo that brought me to power set the tone for his divisive tribal rule and consequent downfall. To emerge as president, you need the vote from North and South. Somebody talked about rigging in the north as if the 1.4m, 1.2m and 950k votes from rivers, delta and akwa ibom states were natural. Those figure translated to over 70% in rivers and 60% in delta and akwa ibom voter turnout while turnout in the north and other regions recorded about 50% turnout. This election was rigged by both the north and south. Sadly for GEJ he pitched his tent with the zone with lowest number of eligible voters. So, no matter how much you pump the figures, the north only needs to just do the same thing (even by a smaller and reasonable/believeable margin) to beat the combined team work of SS/SE. |
noblezone:Everybody expectation is high. Mine is probably higher than yours. But I will not leave in fo0ls paradise to expect all these miracles in 6months. Buhari and his team never promised an overnight miracle success. If he did, be kind enough to show us where. GEJ met the naira at around 115 per dollar. Instead of improving on it after six years, the naira has depreciated to over N220/$ but you want this reversed to N100/$ in 6 months. GEJ met deplorable electricity infrastructure in the country generating at around 4000MW. After six years the only thing he can show is lower generation inspite of several recommissioning of more power stations leading to supposed higher generating capacity. And of course, the conclusion of privatisation of PHCN that OBJ started. Yet you want steady power in 6months. Insurgents have always being in the country, but after 6yrs it get to a whole new level that we even lost some parts of the country to insurgents. You didn't ask GEJ to perform but rather put the blame on people that have no control over the army and other security. After 6yrs of GEJ gov, many companies embarked on massive downsizing. I know because I am a lucky survivor. Yet you want all graduates employed in the twinkle on an eye because your kinsman has been sacked. I will criticise GMB gov. if he fails to deliver key milestones within 4yrs. But to expect miracles in 6 months is just very silly. BTW your demands are inspired by nothing but bitterness. |
PointB:Thatis exactly the reason why a PDP member from any zone cannot be a senate president in a house dominated by APC ![]() |
SegzyJoe:I am not too sure about your submission. Jega's job is not the easiest and I definitely didn't envy him. You can imagine the show of shame yesterday at the ICC and not even the security officer had the nerve to bring the former minister to order - simply because he is on the president's side. I bet any other party agent would have been arrested if he tried to stop an election the president was winning. Jega's job pitched him against the commander in chief of the armed forces. He was even alleged to have ignored the president's call!! If that is true, I am not so sure how many could have done that. He remained calmed and focused on the tasked amidst many distractions and covert interference by the supreme powers in this country. Yet he still managed to deliver a free but not completely fair election (he admitted this himself). That is not something we should dismiss as simple. But you are right as regard Tinubu's qualities. |
all4naija:Cool down bro. All the guy said is just the plain truth although bitter as usual. But you the one that sound primitive for still hanging on mundane propaganda of the pdp - which contributed to their loss. However, as omenka said, its time to move on and stop rubbing it in ![]() |
PointB:At a time when the majority was not stable - flip-flopping between PDP and APC. |
Saraki is about to take the seat his father once occupied. But I understand there is an APC senator from Edo (SS). However, he is a first time senator, he may be out muscled by Saraki in terms of experience and politicking. By now people should really stop this fo0lish day dreaming. How can a PDP senator lead a house with APC majority. As at when Tambuwal was made the speaker of the House of Rep, he was a PDP member. So the Tambuwal example does not apply at all. It is either the new Edo senator or Saraki. But I think Saraki is more suitable. |
noblezone:Bros, Many thanks for keeping tab on electoral promises. I only ask you to be fair and extend the same kind of patience you gave GEJ. GEJ sat on the seat of power for almost 6years combined yet all these things you are asking for were just getting worse. But now you want steady power in 9 months. You want reversal of the value of Naira to a better exchange rate to than what GEJ met in less than 2 years. Be sincere with yourself and purge the bitterness in your heart. I voted for GMB, but 4 years is enough for me to know whether or not to vote for him in 2019. I will not judge his admin by his performance in just 18months. |
GEJ lost the election because he created too many unnecessary enemies. Why on earth will you make the masses your enemy by removing the fuel subsidy on the 1st day of a new year? Couldn't that have waited till a few days later? This is clearly very insensitive of him. We can argue that he was misled by croonies, but he "was" the boss and should have used his senses. Why on earth will you allow your wife to create enemity between Gov Amaechi and himself. And also the governors that defected to APC. Those powerful people contributed a great deal to PDP's loss (not so much to APC's win) Why on earth will you trivialise the north? As if they are not humans. Boko Haram killed the northerners in 10000s and even more displaced. Yet he even had the gut to say he under estimated BH. To make matters worse, the same BH that terrorised the people for years was checkmated within just 6 weeks. It was obvious that he didn't consider the people's plight serious until he was sure to lose the election because of it. It even led to the erosion of int'l support for him. Back in 2011, GEJ had the backing of many western nations. But his divisive style of administration led to their tactical withdrawal - Handling of missing chibok girls comes to mind. Why did he allow his aides to demonise islam - the major religion in a region with more than 50% of the votes. Take it or not, that also played a major role. Sambo tried to do some damage control by accusing PYO of having 5000 churches and that it is the PDP that is the true islamic party. But it was too late. Why on earth did he take SW forgranted, only to spend most days of the last two weeks trying to appease the SW. GEJ lost the election because of the many unnecessary enemy he created or allowed his aides/kinsmen/wife to create and he didn't care until the end. |
TopGee:Absolutely correct. There is no gain in having your kinsman in office. OBJ, Bankole, David Mark, Tambuwal and GEJ are all living examples. |
Jbenue:I was telling my that maybe the SS just threw their chance of becoming the senate president away. APC may likely be the majority in the senate which means David Mark cannot be the senate president. It would have been an almost automatic/unchallenged opportunity for Magnus Abey (I assume he contested for senatorial seat) if he was not rigged out by GEJ backed Wike. Now with the President coming from the north and Vice from SW and no APC senator from SS and SE, it looks like Saraki may take the seat his father once sat as the senate president. |
Jbenue:For the sake of Rivers people, I hope this is true. Wike tenue as minister of state for education saw the infamous 5 month strike. This is not the kind on man in whose hands you want to entrust the next four years of Rivers state. |
oluseyiforjesus:And your username says you are for Jesus ![]() |
Who will you give the man of the year award and what are your reasons? Prof. Jega for being non-partisan, committed and staying focused on the job inspite of many attempted distractions and interferences from powerful power brokers in the ruling party and even the army. The latest is the maturity in the manner in which he handled the show of shame by Orubebe. Bola Tinubu is the national leader and probably the chief navigator of the APC ship. He is the face of opposition movement in Nigerian politics and have now successfully turned the ACN (which controlled just one state) to a mega party after overseeing the successful merger with other parties. Today, for the first time in the history of democratic development of Nigeria, an opposition party (a new one for that matter) is seizing power from the ruling party. Officially, Nigeria is no longer a one-party state. |
For the first time since Nigeria returned to democratic governance 16 years ago, the east and western parts of the country are about to switch side with respect to being in the ruling vs opposition party. For example, Lagos is set to align for the first time with Aso rock since 1999! But While the south west had mastered the act of surviving being on the other side of the ruling party, South east is just about to have a taste of what it means to be an opposition. The Igbos are very smart and hard working people - forget the brainless saTANoids on nairaland. We have seen some very prominent sons and daughters from that region under Obasanjo's administration. Sadly, GEJ's administration didn't promote any ace Igbo genius. However, I am confident they can weather the storm. But I hope we will not see another TAN singing senseless praises of Buhari if he errs or another Youth Earnestly Ask for Buhari (as we saw during Abacha's era). Those making a mockery of Igbo may soon eat their words as we are about to truly see how resilient new breeds of people from that part of the country. |
Sanchez01:Yes, this is a big one indeed. Politicians should know that the people have the power to sack them for nonperformance in the next election. SegzyJoe:Reminds me of the story of Abraham Lincoln that failed several times but eventually got it |
Fellow nairalanders For me the major learning from this presidential election is that no ethnic group in this country can solely put her son/daughter on the throne without the support of other region. GEJ missed it bigtime the moment he proclaimed the votes of SE took him to Aso rock after 2011 elections. From then on he continuously treated other ethnic group with "disdain" as if they were not important. Now he must have realised he missed the opportunity to earn the trust and respect of others no thanks to his divisive administrative style. With the results released so far, it will take a miracle for GEJ to stage a comeback considering APC stronghold of Borno, Bauchi, Zamfara left to be released. So, in your opinion, what is the major lesson you have learnt from this election? |
Obiagelli:I am luving this. From my compilation so far, GMB is still leading by millions even with 1.4m for rivers ![]() |
raumdeuter:I know. That is why I said: "The only hope for APC is to follow suite with results from the north" I just hope the north will not dull itself ![]() |
Why cry over something PDP started 4 years ago. They didn't realise it will come back to hurt them? They used under age voters in2011 to get the required 25% in the north while GEJ's kinsmen churned out miracle numbers in the south to emerge as the winner. I can bet those so called kids didn't just register. They must have had their TVCs since 2011. Now the same seed that PDP sowed 4yrs ago is now being used against them and they are crying. I |
This is exactly my fear. I have been saying it that the marginal victories APC has been getting will be wiped out once the magical numbers start coming from SS/SE. We have seen Enugu, Anambra and now River. Just wait for Delta and Imo. The only hope for APC is to follow suite with results from the north. But, it may already be too late. Imagine Lagos with over 3m PVCs collected declaring just over 500k votes SMH. |
Stop the mischief. These are 2011 pictures and video. That is how pdp got the required 25% vote in many parts of the north in conjunction with child-voter. No such luxury for pdp this time for such crime/fraud. |
IbnSultaan:Are you sure about this result? Combined with that of Kano, the trend seem to be above 52% turnout with respect to PVC collected. If this is maintained, and pdp don't' slam us with 90% turnout in SE/SS, then GMB should be preparing for Aso rock. At this rate NE/NW will easily produce over 12m votes ![]() |
