pardon my naivety. What's the point of having a bridge like this to serve as pathway for boats? Is it for tourist attraction? Or is it cheaper to construct and maintain this type of bridge than a bridge for trains (I mean new trains o, not the old refurbished 1822 trains that takes 10 hrs from Enugun to phc)

Nooooo.

We are planning with Ondo and Itshekiris' oil and our IGR, being the most industrialised state in the country.

The same state has oil reserves around tonkeji island, between badagry and Benin republic boundary.

How about that.
My brother,
I am not even concerned about the oil sef. History has shown that ideas rules supreme over money.
Just checkout the world powers. How many of them rely primarily on oil.
The US has vast oil reserves but for decades they were even importing from us. UK has zero oil as at the last time I checked but many so-called Niger Delta indigenes will be glad to trade their Nigerian passport with that of UK. Meanwhile the oil rich Niger delta have averagely lower standard of living than their SW counterparts. Of what good is oil money if it cannot better the lives of the citizens?
I know their is oil in Ondo and recently rumored part of Lagos, but I am more concerned about the ideas the government will bring. Money without ideas of what to do with it will just end up in the hands of OPC like it is in the hands of the militants in SS.
Bring good ideas, and you will be surprised that the funding will come - with or without oil. I will rather live in Switzerland instead of the oil rich venezuela.

How ironic is it that with all the ministries and agencies setup to develop ND from their oil, nothing much is still on ground. Not forgetting that those agencies and ministries are all headed by Niger Delta sons like Orubebe and they all have billions of dollars in budget.
keep hating while SW keeps progressing. At the end of the day, some people will say they developed Ogun and that Oke-Imosan (where the gov. house is located) is a no-man's land.
Oh BTW, it is reported that Ogun state has the highest number of industries in the country. Its the industrial hub and according to punch the state is like Jersey in US
Did you see similarities between Ogun State and New Jersey? Absolutely! Ogun State is the ultimate bedroom community in Nigeria, serving the commercial nerve centre of the country – Lagos. According to 2007 GDP estimates by Wikipaedia, Ogun State is ninth in Nigeria in terms of GDP ranking, with approximately $10.5bn GDP. And the state population based on the 2006 census, is about 3.75m and 16th among the 36 states in Nigeria. It also has the highest number of post-secondary institutions in Nigeria, and is reputed to have produced arguably the brightest Nigerians over the last century. Ogun State has the highest number of Fast Moving Consumer Goods companies in Nigeria. Agbara Industrial Estate in Ogun State is in fact the largest single industrial estate in Nigeria that houses plants that are among the biggest in the world. Cumulative cement production in Ogun State is among the largest in Africa by a state (or equivalent). Though there are no publicly available GDP figures for Nigerian states since 2007, it is safe to assume that Ogun State may have slightly moved up the ladder in recent years. But the state should actually consistently be among the top four or five states in Nigeria in terms of GDP and economic growth.
Source: http://www.punchng.com/opinion/between-ogun-state-and-state-of-new-jersey/

I am pretty sure the state can find substantial fund from its IGR. The federal revenue from oil is just an extra income tongue
So keep hating while SW keep moving forward.

Thandolwethu:
I start by imploring you to read this letter with an open and unbiased mind as this will enable you grab the full gist of my message.
I am a full blooded South African, born and bread in Soweto. I have never been to Nigeria and my impression of your Country is formed by the behaviour and actions of the many Nigerians who live in SA and what we hear and read from the media about the goings on in your country.
I deliberately joined Nairaland today as I noted that alot of you are on this Forum hence its a good platform to pass my message. Suffice it to say that i will delete this account after this message. I will read your responses with keen interest.

1. There is no question that there was xenophobic attack on Foreigners in SA in the past 3weeks. What is in doubt is the scale of the attack. I have noted that Nigerians have overtly blown the crises out of proportion by spreading lies and wrong informatiom concerning the crisis. The idea that South Africans are going round SA cities killing, maiming and burning Foreigners is a lie. Only 7 people have been killed so far and of these 7, 3 are south Africans, 2 Ethiopians and 2 Mozambican. The world media is in agreement with these figures. While its 7 lives too many that doesnt give credence to the news going round in Nigeria that we are killing and burning Foreigners. If thats true then there would be more people dead.
STOP BELIEVING WHATYOU READ AND WATCH ON social media as most are lies and fabricated figments of the imaginations of mischievous Nigerians in other to stoke the flame of discord between Nigeria and SA.

2. Why are Nigerians up in arms against SA with xenophobia when the war in Nigeria is far worse than here in SA. Boko haram is killing thousands your people everyday and theres no end in sight meanwhile no Nigerian has been killed in this Xenophobic attack. That is why Nigerians throng our embassies in Lagos and Abuja seeking Visas to come to SA and escape the despicable living conditions in the slums of Nigeria.

3. This recent Xenophobic attack was predicated on the fact that Foreigners commit so much heinous crimes in SA without impunity and we are tired of all these. We have our own criminals here so we cant add more problems from foreigners.
A. NIigerians are the kingpins of drugs killing our children and society. Your brothers drug our girls into prostitution. They con our people with fraud and 419. They hack into our bank accounts stealing millions.

B. Zimbabweans are involved in robberies and car hijackings

C. Mozambicans kill our farmers and take our jobs for peanuts leaving many South Africans jobless

D. Ethiopians and Somalians open shops to do illegal activities and pollute our communities. Theres a Somalian shop in every 2 houses on every street in SA. No Country can allow that.

SA has its own issues but we would like to solve them without the added problems of Foreign crimials.

If you like burn down shoprite and close MTN its your people that will suffer because these companies employ millions of Nigerians. They will simply go jobless.

Thank you
Op pls tell me you're kidding
First you said you've not been to Nigeria that all the info you have is from the net yet you ask us not to believe everything we read about SA on social media. Doesn't this amount to hypocrisy.
You listed the various crimes by foreigners in SA. Who says there are no south African criminals in other African countries. How many of them have been attacked. What happened to your law enforcement. Every country has its internal problem. Its not only SA that has internal problem. Nigeria like you said is still battling with book haram. Will that be enough justification to start killing foreign criminals?
Lastly what makes you think there aren't business minded Nigerians that can buy off MTN et al if we decide to send themparking? The jobs will still be here. So your threat is unfounded. We still have AIRTEL after vodacom left many years ago - so go figure

Wow!!
This election would have been a walk over and GEJ would have won without much stress:
If only he used the N2b to fight BH in time;
If only he used the N2b on electricity generation instead of fake recommissioning of already commissioned project
If only he used the N2b to make agriculture sector more visible as opposed to the illusive made in Nigerian rice that is no where to be found
If only he used the N2b to create meaningful employment to graduates as opposed to empowering millitants and OPC
If only he used the N2b to equip the Nigerian higher institutions as opposed to setting up more glorified secondary schools
If only he used the N2b to enhance the life of ordinary Nigerians, GEJ would have won the election clear-cut and there wouldn't have been any need to induce voters.
Soludo said (and I completely agree) that GEJ had a virgin land to plant iroko trees so we can remember his name long after he leaves office, but he chose to plant grasses - like ancient of days trains, unseen Nigerian rice, shoddy remodelling airports, recommissioning already commissioned etc huh All these are already forgotten. Thank God for my inverter, how am I supposed to remember GEJ commissioned any power plant when I still had to recharge my inverter with my generator just to have a good night sleep sad

I don't mean to rub it in, but with the result so far, its looking like PDP will lose many state which it used to control and has not been able to snatch any state (except Ekiti) from opposition. They are just struggling to keep some states in SS/SE with thugry and violence. In addition to controlling the Senate and HOA, it looks like APC is now set to to be in control of the majority of the states.

How can one man in position of the highest office, in control of all the military and financial resources which are already pre-established and matured wreck the party and make it become unpopular while another man with control of just on state (the tiniest in the country in terms of Land mass) form a brand new party and overtake the ruling party. PDP is now officially relegated to the unenviable status of a sectional (SS/SE) party. This just proves the saying "A herd of sheep that is led by a lion can conquer a pack of hyenas but a group of lions that is led by a sheep will be consumed by a pack of hyenas"

I hope future leaders are taking notes. You don't play divisive politics with ethnicity and religion. You are bound to lose BIG.

Mynd44:
The truth is that almost every reasonable Yoruba person condemned the Oba's comment but there was a limit to how they can condemn it (he is still the Oba, condemning him is the job of his council of chiefs) but then the PDP goons jumped on the situation....

Then on Agbaje's last speech, he subbed the Oba by saying Igbos should push APC into the Lagoon. The insult added to what the Oba had been getting from other Agbaje supporters did not go down well with a lot of people who might have even voted Agbaje.

It became a Yoruba people proving a point thing and as the OP said, they won't start a shouting match, they will quietly go into their "Rusted brown roofed house" and wait for when you will come into their hands and that happened today.

The PDP ought to have restrained it's supporters...the talk back was too much and at that point, they lost the edge they had
@the bolded. Very correct. Just imagine some as$holes giving the Oba 48hr ultimatum to apologise. Chai, Yorubas don suffer. Personally, I hold Jimi and PDP responsible. Their is a Yoruba saying that goes something like "bi o ni'gba ba she gbe igba e, La'she ma ba gbe" meaning it is the value you place on your wares and how you cherish it, that determines the value that others will place on it and how they respect it.
I may be wrong, but the way I see it is after the Oba's unfortunate speech, Jimi stylishly made the it look like the igbos are being deliberately victimised in Lagos. So, it was easy for some Igbo to relate with after the Oba's bruhaha. Meanwhile, all the sensational issues raised to "incite" the Igbos are general issues that all traders regardless of tribe complain about in Lagos. For example, Igbos are being taxed and levied. What about other traders? Don't they pay tax? I have relatives selling in Idumota market and I have an idea of how they complain about levies. Even civil servants complains. What about the Yorubas and others that lives in Lekki that complain daily of toll fees? Why make it look like it is only Igbos that pays multiple taxes unjustly? It essentially turned it into Yoruba vs Igbo. For me this is a crime for introducing ethnic politics into Lagos.

I am a fervent reader on Nairaland and i dont miss this forum in 1 day, i have seen people share their concerns here and a lot of people have contributed through their comments, though some are hillarious while others are on point. i will appreciate matured responses.

I did not marry a stranger to start with and its why i am very pained cuz i come here on nairaland and see how people get frustrated about their marriage based on cogent reasons but mine is different.

first of all, I got married in february and am already very tired of my wife, not because she isnt very sexy or good in bed as other may experienced but because my wife starts arguments from little things as little as why did u miss my call, even if its a BBM call thats dependent of network, after hours of begging i have to end up with uncountable "am sorry".

secondly, my wife find it very easy to engage in malice for days without bothering to reconcile, and i have to talk to her over again and make her see reason why such act is not good in marriage, for which she will later apologize and the next day or same day she is back again in another episode.

thirdly, every man love to be respected, when my wife starts her drama about missed call or other flimsy excuses, she starts talking to me like am her junior brother, calling me names and after noticing how mad i am with her, she will apologize but always repeat such act.

i feel the amount of love and attention she gets from me is too much and i am beginning to think i should make her understand what it feels like to have a frustrated marriage. though am yet to do that.

i honestly am not perfect but i have never used any harsh word while addressing her even when she is obviously wrong, i dont do so because i know the feeling when she use them for me. i wish i could anyway.

i grew up in a place where women are highly regarded and well treated and maybe its affecting me because i also help her do chores and i dont push all the house work to her as most men do.

i noticed i am always very unhappy and depressed the moment she comes up with this episodes and it may be because i love her so much and this is beginning to affect how i study and i might be forced to push her away first by not giving her attention as i used to.

My fellow Nairalanders, i respect ur opinion, hillarious ones and reasonable ones, marriage is not a bed of roses, i love my wife and i am not cheating on her, i am 100% married to her alone but her attitude is frustrating and i might have to leave her in the end. i hope i get lucky and this make FP so i can learn from experienced members before i take a decision, as we speak she has began the malice episode with me and if i dont apologize to her in 3 days, she is ready to go that far too.

sad sad sad cry
I passed through this stage and even till this day way wife still behaves like she owns me sometimes. She doesn't take me seriously and even deny sex a couple of times. There was a time she restricted me to only Sundays. I mean like Sunday-Sunday tonic. But I think most women love their husbands and will do anything to keep him. This has been my weapon. Sometimes I just deliberately come home much later than usual. The last time I had silly issue with my wife, I went a step rtfurther by putting a condom in my pocket. I know she will see it by the time she want to put the clothes in the washing machine. This is a dangerous move as you have to know your wife well enough and predict her reaction. Maybe I am lucky to have such a woman. But most women will not want tk lose their men as a result of their unnecessary actions. Since that day, we have not had any silly quarrel in the house.

You guys should stop being silly and paranoid. The Eze himself, I doubt he would be that enthusiastic about that nonsense. Most of these people are successful people in their respective fields and what Igbos want in Lagos is peace.

Some of you people have serious issues. Why call the man 'common chemist'? That is very derogatory and disrespectful.

Many the more popular man win and may the result reflect the wishes of the electorate and...

May curses, misery and sorrow follow any man that would attempt to tamper with the results..

Now say a big AMEN to that .. cheesy
Let me start with your last statement (prayer) AMEN
Agbaje is my problem, not because of his qualifications but because he followed the politics of ethnicity path. That is why I used the "chemist" term just to spite him in my own little way albeit not very effective I have to admit embarassed (with due respect to all sensible chemists)
Why on earth will he even think of making such a sentence of elevating Eze to the status of Oba of Lagos just for the sake of sensitisation of Igbos in Lagos. What will he do if (God forbids) crisis breaks out and some id!otic Yoruba men decides to unleash mayhem on innocent Igbo men on account of the Oba's statement (which I think is wrong). You can blame such ugly incident on the Oba but without the provocation, that statement may not have been spoken. People should know where to draw the line when playing politics.

So now Igbokwe and Nwabueze are no longer Igbos abi? What will satisfy you guys? Until Lagos give the Obi of Onitsha political appointment? Please get real.

If the Igbos are agitated by the actions of Fashola's gov, then they don't need to be incited by any politician. Why the emphasis on Igbos in the pamphlet he circulated? Are all the issued limited to only Igbos? Don't the Yoruba traders also pay fines and levies? Or you guys want to do business without paying a dime to the host government? Don't traders (Igbos and others) pay fines and levies in Igbo states?

Guy show me a pic of jk in Igbo attire or forever remain silent.. Accept d truth he's a more experienced politician Dan ur ambo.. 4 a true son of d soil to b loved by natives Nd d foreigners is no mean feat

hw did jimi create ethnic tension, for ur info everybody has the right to vote who ever he/she want,
Don't tell me you guys have not seen this leaflet or you just want to pretend it is not divisive.

1. Deportation of Ndigbo. Yet we ask is it only Igbo destitutes that were repatriated? Why the emphasis on only Igbos if not to create ethnic divide.
2-6 Discrimination, victimisation and multiple taxation of Ndigbo: Again, we ask why the emphasis on Ndigbo? Is it only Igbos that are taxed in Lagos? How is the Igbo discriminated when Lagos remains the only state to give Igbos political appointment? How are Igbos victimised in Lagos?

JK is an as$hole for creating this tension in the ever peaceful Lagos. By the special grace of God, he will be disgraced today.

stop quoting me.
Or what? You'll proclaim Nairaland as No Man's Land?
SMH.
For a fact that you are not able to dispute or provide answers to any of the questions/points I raised, I have nothing to say to you anymore.
Now run along and continue with your folly.

For the fact that u started with insult, I will ignore you like a kid.
Why will you not run away from pure facts. Too difficult to handle abi? People like you are the ones giving Igbos bad name. If not for the fact that I have met and interacted with Igbo men and women in real life, I would have had a horrible impressions of Igbos by your line of thinking.
Refute any of the facts I posted if you can.
Thank you in advance.
