FamilyRe: Well Done Kid For Slapping Your Mother. Thumbs Up, you have my support! by GODSON2009(m): 11:30pm On May 19, 2011
im not even bothered if they slap their mothers but the alarming thing is the influence on african children these days.me and my friend were just talking about how spoilt nigerian teenagers are in uk,they will sit down in church and their parents will be cleaning or totally ignore their parents while being called to do something or the other it is really disgraceful, the average indian will never allow the western ways to influence theirfamily life
Christianity EtcRe: David Oyedepo's Story by GODSON2009(m): 11:22pm On May 19, 2011
each time i read these news i honestly get really sad and pensive rather than angry, i understand the rationale of dangote owning a private jet,the funny thing is that even our corrupt wicked politicians who can afford it have not bought private jets,
the second thing im perplexed about is this, lets assume bishop oyedepo has one private jet ok fair enough, but the second jet what?? really??
Don Shark:
May God have mercy on all those negatively criticizing the servant of God for buying a jet.
and GOD help the servant of GOD for an ostentatious show and display of wealth when his congregation are starving btw correction not one jet at the last count 4 jets
Don Shark:
Let me ask you these questions;
1. Is it a crime for God to bless someone.
no its not a crime, but it becomes morally reprehensible for the head of the congregation not to follow jesus christ's example of sharing the blessings with the less well off amongst his congregation
Don Shark:
2. If not,is it a crime for someone to enjoy God's blessings on one's life.
no its not a crime but when such person starts to buy not one,not two,not three but four PRIVATE jets, not for the use of the church members but his exclusive use, then i go back to my bible and ask myself WHAT WOULD AND DID JESUS CHRIST DO?
Don Shark:
2. If not,why the hullabaloo about Bishop David O. Oyedepo owning a private jet.
THE HULLABALOO IS NOT ABOUT BISHOP OYEDEPO OWNING A PRIVATE JET,but owning several private jets
a)when he clearly does not need it
b)when the money could be put to better use feeding the starving, health and social welfare of his less well off congregations
c)the effects on the environmental degradation and the ozone layer
d)the jet is for his exclusive use and maybe the top ten leadership, its not like a church member who gets a visa tomorrow can apply to board and accompany the bishop on his trip abroad is it?
Don Shark:
Let me confide this to you;God's blessings maketh rich and addeth no sorrrow
yes you are totally right but the rank and file, the poor, starving amongst his congregation will disagree with you, the lord did not make him and the rest rich to hugg all the billions but fo them to share it with the less well off agreed?
jesus christ did not keep the loaves and fishes to himself or sell it and then share the money amongst his disciples he shared with the less well off
Don Shark:
if only you can give up pleasures of life to serve God genuinely,God will not only give you a jet but shall make you own an airline company. You know he can do all things.I pray that God should bless you richly so that your mentality will change.Amen.
in other words are you asserting that the rest of the poor who trek to church and back, who tithe and donate their wido's mite are not serving GOD genuinely because they cant afford a private jet?
yes he can do all things but realistically this isnt going to happen though is it?
its not our mentality that needs changing but that of men of GOD who feel the need to spend billions aquiring private jets when people are starving.
bill gates(the richest man in the world) is not a born again christian but he has committed his considerable wealth to eradicate deseases in africa, you know what GOD did?he didnt say no he isnt born again GOD blessed him more and he became even richer than he was, that is GOD for you.

warren buffet?i dont think he even attends church but go and check how many billions he has pledged out of his fortune towards the bill and melinda gates foundation.

these are white westerners who have absolutely no connection with africa, what are our own people doing instead they are buying private jets if you dont see anything wrong in that scenario then im sorry

Gbam. Finito.

My brother they tell us they're "spreading the gospel" . . . one can only laugh. They're travelling to London, Switzerland, US etc . . . They're going to 'spread the gospel' to the same 'people' who brought us the gospel in the first place. Imagine Chuks in computer village in Lagos going to Silicon Valley in California to spread the good news of the new intel operating system.
lmao at the bolded chuks will also be needing private jet or bill gates will not take him serious,he has to rep the brand.
newmi:
ok perhaps they need private bicycles that will please you se bi huh
no it wont please me but there are several alternatives before arriving at a private jet,i am a member of rccg but i have not smelled G.O's jet talk less of having a go inside it ,now i live in the uk so im still having it ok the majority of the congregation in nigeria cant even eat three square meals a day pls do explain the rationale behind that
newmi:
who says that the properity of a "preacher" must be connected to his congregation
are you serious?did you really mean to say that , so a scenario where the pastor is launching his 20th car at the expense of congregations walking miles to church on an empty stomach is normal?
if christians have this mindset no wonder things have degenerated to this level

i@GODSON, that i lifted frm your earlier statement on the oda channel, are we into double standard here.?
altho the source of income is @ play not the use, but q. still relevant.
you dont seem to get my stance here, the op was asking how bishop oyedepo made his money as he/she could not find any pointers to him owning a business concern of any sort so i was simply stating the ways in which this could be achieved.i assure you like i stated in my reply which you can check earlier here than i am not endorsing but simply stating some facts as i see them.for the records while i believe the major source of his money making ventures is justified i.e the books, audio and video, speaking engagements etc the way the money is not trickling down to those who need it is not justified and i do not support hope i have cleared up any misconceptions smiley
PoliticsRe: Alaafin Of Oyo To Ooni Of Ife: Mind Your Own Business by GODSON2009(m): 8:42pm On May 19, 2011
this ooni of ife is one of the most useless obas ever,to re write history this blantantly for his own personal ego trip and just because he is wealthier than the allafin of oyo.
he is not only stopping at that now he is trying to tacticaly undercut the power base of the alaafin by encouraging junior obas to disrespect him,as it is now he has soiled his hands with the filthy lucre of pdp contracts and oil blocks now he doesnt command much respect with the present governor and people in his own state yet he has the mouth to cause confusing in a different state.
what is wrong with these useless old people?? as one of the custodians of yoruba history,he is holding that throne and the history attached to it in trust for the yorubas gence it behoves him to keep his big mouth shut and appear dignified, the british royal family are not looked up to all around the world just because of money but the queen and the rest will never make any controversial comment in public.even during the testing times of diana she never publicly made any controversial comments this oni of a man should learn from them as old as he is

We know but to this is not Odudua nation but Nigeria. Nigeria is a nation made up of different nations including ours. Please lets think here.
maybe you didnt read the post i was replying to this is my sentiments as well, looking from another angle however the acn will play a huge stabilising factor in the senate and federal house as presently constituted so yoruba or no yoruba no political interest will dare to ignore them

@All
You Yoruba guys are beginning get me really pissed-of save ekt bear. Are you guys alright?!!!
Look Nigeria's level of political development demands that there be zoning and sharing of positions to reflect Nigeria's diverse ethnic groups. That is where weare for now. Otherwise it is possible to have northerners that can fill all the positions based purely on merit. So can the Yoruba or Igbo.
How can a Yoruba representative be missing in the first 4 major positions in the country. One of the big three tribes that and probably the second largest should be totally absent at the centre?!!! Unthinkable
Whether the person to hold the position is responsible and merits the position or not, I dont care.
The ACN must be high on crack.
Anyway I trust the SW lawmakers to use their heads.
what exactly have the yorubas gained by occupying relevant posts in the past till the present political dispensation an obasanjo? a dimeji bankole?
let us drop sentiments and logically look at issues personally acn is what the nation need right now because they will play a crucial role in neutralising any overbearing influence of the pdp.
if you dont care about merit,do you care if the holders of the position gives the electorate the dividents of democracy?
FamilyRe: Why Do Our Women Prefer Perming, Fixing, Jerry Curls To Plaiting Their Hair? by GODSON2009(m): 7:42pm On May 19, 2011
@stillwater
i hope you realise the hair styles you have put up dont apply to every african country?it is mainly east africans and central africans who are known with this hair style definitely not west africa.
@post
i agree with this not only that women's hairs blossom more, healthier and comes out with a lovely black sheen when braiding and plaiting hair, the damage curls ,weaveon and the rest are doing to their hair is obvious, most cannot grow their natural hair and it keeps on falling off, discoloured hair from too much chemicals in washing, setting etc

its not about nigerian ghananian, south african men its about the man you end up with and how romantic he is there are caucasians who are hcauvinistic and alfa males and there are africans/nigerian men who are not ashamed to show their feminine side and be the ultimate romantic

so your allah says christians are not worth getting married to?im sorry but that allah must be ashamed of himself for religious discrimination,if the couple really want to get married and like each other enough then the religion the wedding which is just a single day should not be an impediment.
a friend of mine her dad is an alhaji and her mum is a born again deeper life right from before they got married and both have given their children the freedom to choose.
the true practise of religion is a wa of life, not a label
PoliticsRe: Private Varsities Seek Public Funds by GODSON2009(m): 6:25pm On May 19, 2011
there are some private universities who obviously will not recourse to public funds but for the ones that are not financially autonomous enough to stand on their own by the government helping them out it will not only strenghten more universities and bring them up to scratch, parents will have more options cheaper as well than the really expensive ones and by making this a sucess it might be the kick on the butt government need to start on the govt owned universities this is what obttains in the united kingdom and it is working fine for them so why not nigeria
PoliticsRe: Private Varsities Seek Public Funds by GODSON2009(m): 5:53pm On May 19, 2011
totally agree but i believe conditions should be met they i.e staff retraining amongst the private and government owned universities, the tution will be reviewed and realistic targets will be set for them hopefully this will serve to kickstart the educational revolution of the government owned universities towards the standards they were in the 1960s and 1970s
Christianity EtcRe: Wealthy Nigerians, Pastors Waste $225 Million On Private Jets-- Forbes by GODSON2009(m): 5:00pm On May 19, 2011
there is absolutely no justification irrespective of any way we dice or slice it for any man of GOD to use a private jet it is a status symbol and nothing else. the likes of watchman nee, john g lake etc did not use private jets and their workers died for the cause of christianity/hunger and desease while spreading the gospel along the lenght and breath of africa and in my honest opinion it is an insult on their memories for a pastor to fly a private jet to the countries those people gained for christianity with their blistered bloodied feet, sweat and blood

Just wait for them to come and tell us the MOG schedule is a very busy one and they need to move around with ease and to distant lands.

$225million dollars in one year on aeronautic toys . . . oh well. Nigerians have always been a flashy, extravagant people, MOGs are just continuing in that tradition.
the most alrming of all is that nobody is even saying anything about the damage a single person having 4 airplanes is doing to the environment which is morally wrong on so many levels.your last comment always pisses me off because people especially westerners see the few nigerians who are in a position of authority  with this ostentatious display of wealth and we the ordinary ngerians get the negative rap for it, we really need  to go back to the days of basic christianity when the pastor in the vicarage was the school principal and would be a source of encouragement and strenght to his congregation not a  reason for his congregation  to go out and look for money by any means cry

What was he trying to do? Buy his way to heaven? cheesy

People have made enriching their pastors a basic tenet of Christianity so challenging this is next to impossible.
well i really cant be a judge of that and i wasnt trying at self aggrandizement or endorsing this,im just using it to illustrate the fact that several ppl do give pastors these kind of money
ode remo:
@GODSON2009. you are turning this into a joke now, are u able to put a simple cost to the above pls, i.e the books, the speeches, the audios and tapes etc.
and y should his congregation sow into oyedepos life and not theirs, shouldnt the pastors dissuade mmbers doing this.
anoda question that been wagging the tail is y is 2 of oyedepos son the head his international arm, i.e london and the U.S OR THAT IS PART OF sowing into the family ?
well it might be ajoke to you but trust me this is very very real i will just approximately put some facts out here and then make up your mind if he could be that rich from the revenue streams or not

1.a single audio cd for a single message/day costs £3 at least
2.a single dvd will cost more at least £5 a day
now imagine how many days bishop oyedepo goes preaching a week/month then multiply cd and dvd sales by the number of his congregation all round the world and people who love listening to him and buying his messages, already this is running ito millions in any foreign currency of your choice.

1.a single book of his will start at £3.50 for a simple palm book/quick read to £35 or more now imagine how many books he has published and are still selling in droves
2.the honorarium that a pastor of oyedepo's stature will be given at a single speaking engagement will be nothing less than £50,000 now imagine how many speaking/preaching engagements he attends.

as for his congregation sowing into his life i wont be the judge of that but it does happen apart from all that the man is a consumate businessman and has several investments which also bring a steady source of revenue.

to further put it in perspective the comedian alibaba, julius agwu etc are ordinary comedians yet they reputed to be worth millions of dolars at least alibaba has property worth millions of dollars and cars worth several millions of naira now compare than to someone of oyedepo's stature who has more speaking/preaching engagement than they do and gets paid load more than they could ever get.
and this is just what we know and then do an analysis of how long the man has been preaching you will realise a couple of billions isnt so farfetched

Christianity EtcRe: This Is Not Another Pastor Bashing Thread! by GODSON2009(m): 2:11pm On May 19, 2011
there are several ways pastor oyedepo gets revenue
he is an accomplished author of several books which sells in their hundreds of thousands considering his congregation who are ready customers that is a sizeable amount of money over the years

he has audio, video and dvd of his many preachings which sell quite well as well

he gets honorarium when on speaking engagements which could run into millions for each speaking engagement especially when speaking abroad

being a pastor and head of his church/ministry his salary will be equivalent of a company ceo with its attendant welfare benefits

his congregation sow into his life and annointing which could be from as low as 100 naira to 100 million naira(and yeas individuals do give that kind of money) i know a friend's uncle who gave 50 million to a popular pastor.

being the head of a church with business men/women professionals etc the pastor is more likely to get free tips, advices etc on investments if he is so business inclined

Deep Sight:
^^^ You are so funny young man. You still don't get the point do you? Okay let me walk you through. You talk about ritual bloodshed as being a stain on African religions as opposed to the cosmogony of the "white man"
how did you conclude that i was a 'young man' as opposed to 'an old man'
Deep Sight:
Is your own christian religion not founded on the very idea of ritualistic human sacrifice in terms of the so called remission of sins by the murder of Jesus on the cross, as supposedly willed by your own christian God? ? ?
christianity is not founded on ritualistic human sacrifice,in case you didnt realise the old testament was all part of the bible as well, jesus christ offering his body as a sacrifice is largely symbolic of unconditional love and forgiveness this s different totally from your babalawos, oluwos and apenas who need the actual human blood to activate demonic influences and conjurations
Deep Sight:
If the very foundation of your christian religion is thus ritualistic human sacrifice, what gives you the unction and audacity to condemn other people for the very same act of ritualistic human sacrifice? ? ?
like i have stated christianity never ever promoted nor advocated for human sacrifice unless you care to show me where the bible enjoins this
Deep Sight:
Secondly, I want to assume that your knowledge of history is limited to that old fat book owned by your father. Otherwise you would not exculpate "white men" from acts of barbaric savagery and bloodshed thoughout history. Such has, infact, been their forte.
if you had intelligently and objectively read my comments and understood it in its entirety, you would have realised that the fat book as you refer to it was addressing just one point in a couple that i made which is human sacrifice and bloodshed of africans on their fellow brothers and sisters.

i have never said white people did not shed blood of africans, even a primary school social studies student will tell you that, the point here is that some of their religious crusaders, missionaries saved african babies from sure death to this day either 5 or 10 scottish pounds still has the picture of the incident of twins killing in nigeria including the name of some notable nigerians on its note.

let me intimate you with a few 'facts' from that fat book which you are at liberty to find out yourself
did you know that
ijebu was originally pronounced as ije-ibu in yoruba meaning food for the water/ocean? the paramount king then needed a wide expanse of land to keep the slaves destined to be offered up for the river godess as human sacrifice and they settled on where ijebu is presently situated when it was time they just plucked as many as they wanted and sacrificed them in the river.

did you know that the yoruba kings had to step over the blood of a young male when going inside the inner sanctum housing some gods and when coming out another slave had to be killed this time female for the king to step on the blood?

did you know that in some parts of youba land, human blood was used with other ingredients and applied to kolanut trees in order for a more bountiful yield?

i could go on and on about sacrifices made on behalf of kings, specific times of the year,on behalf of the war generals prince and princesses e.t.c
Your post is by far one of the most ignorant post I've ever seen from a guy pertaining to women's hair. Do before weaves were created, were women not wearing their hair beautifully? Did it not occur to you that perhaps she doesn't keep her hair tidy underneath the weave? Is she a representation for all Nigerian women? Why is it that you feel the need to reference only Nigerian women? Are there not women of other nationalities who's hair is unkempt underneath their weave? Although you didn't mention "race" or ethnicity, I'm still gonna ask you, have you never seen women other ethnic groups with damaged or unkempt hair under their weave. I don't understand why some of you idiotic men on Nairaland feel the need to constantly bash your sisters. Instead of uplifting them, some you you seem to take pride and joy in trying to bring them down. There are sooooo many things that some men Nigerian men do yet you don't see us opening threads left and right to bash you all. Its not like anything you said was constructive criticisms, it was just comes across as a another way for some of you to bash. It's sad because some of you even have the gall to ask why some of your sisters have turned to other nationalities and ethnicities.
i dont know the context the guy used in opening the thread but in the old days women were not using chemicals to wash and set and do all sorts to their hair they used organic stuffs which made the haidr glow shine and grow properly these days the chemicals as resulted in many women not having long hair or their hair prematuredly falling out.
however totally agree with you that its not restricted to naija women, but they are definitely part of the whole demographics described by the poster
