Chikadibia21: Many of them actually know next to nothing about Africa. While on placement, one young carer asked if he would have to cross a boat to get to Africa. It didn't stop there ooo, I kept being hounded by questions about monkeys and if we had fruits and nice things in Africa. I kept answering until I literally got exasperated...Like how wouldn’t you even know? I have also been in a class where some students didn't know that Africa is a continent of several countries...I can go on and on ooo...Lol
I honestly believe that the educational system here needs to do better. They know more other continents than ours. The media also does not help in it's negative portrayal of Africa.
Sorry for the long post biko...This matter don dey vex me since I was in a meeting at work during black history month and some of the white colleagues admitted that black history is not taught in schools and were advocating for it to be included in their school curriculum which confirms what you're saying. But for football and other sports most know next to nothing about Africa |

pheranmie: Thanks for this . Unfortunately my class of degree is third class (the unserious type back in uni) always hustling for money. I felt bad as I feel I wished I had done it better. Well live goes on . Please don't ever feel bad in anyway, it's what you have done after or build on that third class that matters. I had a third class too but after developing myself over the years, I have ended up in one of the big 4 here in the uk. You're good where you are now, just keep developing yourself. |

Zahra29: I agree, specialists like the above are far fewer in the UK. My last project was for a large UK insurance company and most of the hard core techie roles were outsourced to Indians. But management type and non/soft tech positions - they had no problems filling those in house. Honestly, it took me some time to understand. Specialization is the way to go especially for an immigrant |

pheranmie: Looking at the skills I have and what I have taken time to develop is business. I studied chemical engineering while I was in Nigeria but I didn’t practice so I gathered up and opened a gadget store. Though the Health line is also what I love back in those jamb days. Infact I choose a science course but you know naija na they went ahead and give me chemical engineering.so advice me as a pro boss which of the areas do you tink it’s best for me even if it’s will make me do some online courses I wouldn’t mind. You're already working in the health sector, try and develop there. You didn't practice as a chemical engineer so you have no experience along that line which is what is needed in the UK and not degrees. With some experience in care that you have, try looking for health care support roles in the NHS, the idea is to get in so you have opportunity to be trained and get qualifications that you won't need to pay for. There are different specialisations within the NHS as a support worker like mental health, physiotherapy and so many. Imagine just spending just a year there. Any qualifications you get are world class recognised in many parts of the world. For me this may be cheapest route. If you want to go the IT way then you may need to spend some money to get trained in some specialised courses like cyber security or cloud engineering. For me except you don't need visa sponsorship doing courses on project Mgmt or business analysis may not be ideal and cost effective. Other people here may have better advice but this is just my little contribution |

Amarathripple0: I’d have to disagree though. Anyone can get sponsored regardless of their role/title. To be honest, It’s really not tricky, just be good at your job. Heck even Heavenly Desserts give their Assistant Managers visa sponsorship if required. I think this narrative is the reason why people are running to only one industry. Times have changed hun
Edited to include an old email I received from a recruiter from one of the banks here, for a Project Management role. Looking at the mail you put up here, it's a trick some companies use to hoodwink you when they see you still have some good time left on your current visa cos they won't even bother if they see your remaining time on your visa is too low. By the time you start working with them and you open that discussion they will come up with some company policy excuse. My personal advice if anyone get employed on this basis, use one eye to still be looking elsewhere to avoid stories that touch cos any serious company will sponsor you right away along with the offer |

Zahra29: In *theory* yes, any role can be sponsored. But in practice, some roles are much easier to sponsor than others. A *good* cyber security practitioner would gain sponsorship easier/faster than a *good* IT project manager. Very true, I agree 100%. Specialisation is key, in the IT space, technical roles like cyber security, cloud engineers, data scientists, get sponsorship easier than non technical roles like project manager. |

pheranmie: My wife is the one schooling and what is this graduate visa you are talking about ?are you talking about post study? What other sector offer sponsorship I will like to know the details as I only of care and support living for now. Thanks for the concern. To hear this self I feel better and loved .God bless you My personal advice, take things one step at a time. You can look at the shortage skills list and see what occupations are relevant in the UK now. The truth is the IT sector and the medical sector ranks highest. The job you're even doing now except you don't want to grow in the medical sector is an opportunity to learn new skills even if it's physiotherapy which is on the shortage occupation list in the medical sector. There are entry levels especially in the NHS even if it's band 2, grow and develop. Your visa now including post-study if you do it gives you at least 3 years to still be in the UK, If you use just 1.5 years to develop yourself in a skill that's in the shortage list, don't you think you will be in a better position for sponsorship? Most people are just in a hurry after few months to get sponsorship and they end up doing jobs they regret. Please don't put much pressure on yourself. Develop yourself first and strategise. The good thing about the UK is that whatever skill and credentials you develop will also be relevant in other developed countries. You just need to be open-minded |

I believe they ask intentionally foolish questions. They literally have the internet on their mobile phones It's the pictures they usually show them about Africa are the primary reason for such questions, My wife has worked as an assistant teacher and the pupils were once shown videos about poverty in Africa, my wife said immediately they started looking at her kind of like having pity on her cos to them she must have passed through such. Pictures, Pictures, Pictures pass stronger messages. |

triplo3: Over 10 working days and no BRP sent via post. Plus no email saying they will send it. Called UKVI today and they said I won't get a new BRP, because I used the app during my application, so my picture was captured etc. Please does anyone have this experience of updating their visa from student to skilled worker dependent visa and then no new BRP? Instead just a status update online. Can I travel out and return to UK without a valid BRP? Thanks ahead Have your copy of your visa approval mail handy or any document showing your current immigration status but confirm all this before you travel to avoid stories that touch. Research and confirm. I think there are future plans of electronic visa in place of brp for travel. |

I'm about to book the foreign trip, I don't want issues having to return back to UK.
Thanks ahead. You have nothing to fear as long it's a positive decision. I think there should be a link to report if your brp hasn't arrived in 10 days after approval. Contact them |

The average black man thinks when he teaches others, they will become richer or better than him |

Schoolhike: Hello house, please I need advice about my expiring visa.
My wife had a resit and she just recently passed the module. But the issue is the school is yet to add the score to her transcript which could be used to apply for graduate visa stating that it is subject to the approval of the School Board Of Examiners and External Examiners which will comes up in January.
Our visa is expiring by jan 9 2023.
I got a job in a care home 3 months stating that they will sponsor me before the end of my visa but I was disappointed last week only to the told that the information from the headquarter that people will only be eligible for sponsorship after spending 6 months with the company.
Now we are in a tight situation whereby our visa is only 3 weeks left.
I need advice on what else I can do please. This is sad, my advise to anyone who has a resit, begin to pester the school for another CAS for an extension of your current student visa, once there's a resit, you automatically have a new end date so for example, if you were supposed to end in September, you will be pushed to December which is now your new end date, the school ought to issue a new CAS for you to be able to seek extension for four additional months so you can be eligible for the graduate visa route. Most schools don't want to but it's your right to trouble them till they give you a new CAS and you go ahead to apply on the home office site for an extension using the new CAS and paying for just four months of IHS along with the visa fee of 490 pounds. Some schools however are organised enough to still accommodate those who re-sit and clear them along with those who had no problems but if not seeking an extension is the way to go. My advice now with this situation is to go to the school and start disturbing anyone who can help, emails alone will not solve this now. You got to move very fast. |

Nanidiiii: Thank you but she is not sure if she needs to upload her certificate from her masters in the UK for her proof of english language, COS and her tuberculosis certificate from when she first moved to the UK. Please house for those that have switched from student visa or graduate visa to tier 2 what documents did you have to upload or if you uploaded any at all. masters certificate is ok for proof of English, tuberculosis certificate is not necessary as it's no longer valid because the one issued in Nigeria has 6 months validity. You no longer need TB cert if you are in the UK. She surely needs COS. She can also use the IDV app to confirm her identity instead of an appointment since she's in the UK. I sent those links because everything is so clear in there. A little reading on those sites will answer every other question, it's that simple Just to add, even for proof of English, she doesn't need it as she already has an earlier successful student visa application where her English was already verified and evidenced by the School she attended. |

Nanidiiii: URGENT PLEASE
Hello Everyone please my sister is about to apply for her tier 2 visa inside the uk from graduate visa but she was issued a COS almost 2 months ago and it read that her start date was 11th of November 2022. She is worried that the application will be rejected because she is just applying now. The COS expires in January but she wants to apply now but is worried as her work start date has passed - she couldn't apply because she didn't have the complete money then but she has it now so wants to do it-one of our friends said it doesn't matter that as long as she applies before the COS expires she will be fine.
Also does she need to upload any information as evidence during the application like - the COS?
Is this true please because she is really worried because her current visa expires in 2 weeks and she doesnt want this one to be rejected. COS has 3 months validity I think so it's nothing to worry about. She's just switching from another valid visa so she should carry on. Put in the application right away to remain legal in the UK |
