kennysville: I hope this talk of Martins can die down peacefully. What i want us all to realize is we all want what is best for the national team. No one opinion is superior to the other. Everyone is right at least in their own eyes. Opinions are like nostrils... they all have holes in them. Lets wait till the world cup proper, then we will do this analysis again. My own be say choose the best going to the world cup and play the best at all times. No outside influence. Lets give Rohr more rope so he can he can hang himself properly if anything goes wrong. I remember in 1994 when Nigeria lost to Italy, they blamed it on Westerhof forgetting that a ghastly errror on the part of Oliseh was the sole reason we lost the game. I heard things like Westerhof took out an attacker for a defender when we were chasing the game.(Even amongst the players interviewed.... and if you are wondering, it was Yekini!)
Patience people.... Patience. thanks, it has always been our culture as Nigerians to blame another person for the failure of our favourite players. In 2014 world cup, folks blame Keshi for our failure against France even when it was an obvious error from enyeama for the first goal and an own goal from yobo. That's our dangerously bias we are. if not for the argentina game, rohr was already been tagged as a bad coach despite qualifying for the world cup against past afcon champions in our group. Thank Goodness his contract has been renewed to avoid distractions like we had going into past world cups, nff seems to be learning from our past. I just hope we Nigerians won't ruin our world cup aspirations like we have been doing in the past. already even naija folks are already writing the eagles off if their preferred players are not selected. Personally am patient with the coach and the team reason am being cautious about these calls for additional players into the team. Rohr has a pool of players already that he did not even exhaust during the wcq, so why are we so hasty in the first place? |

Nigeria Will Be A Walk-over, They Have No Star Player Apart From Moses- Croatian Coach Says

Croatian coach, Boris Pučić, believes his side will thrash Nigeria in their 2018 World Cup fixture on June 16.
Speaking on Tuesday, he wrote Nigeria off, saying the only star player in the squad is Victor Moses.
”Obi Mikel plays in China, Moses has been injured for some time and has just returned to Chelsea’s first team, while others are all in some side-tiers.
”Iheanacho and Musa are in reserve in Leicester, Iwobi for Arsenal plays a bit more, but Nigeria is now the shadow of the national team that they once called ‘African Brazil.
”Simply, there is no star player besides Moses in Chelsea and the team is not close to what we remember from the World Cup in the United States or France that played really well.” same thing the algerian coach said and it took a dubious penalty to level up scores with the eagles. Talk is cheap mr boris. Serbia said same thing at the last world cup |

edi287: How do we know Martins or Enyeama wouldn't accept Mikel as captain?? Besides I've never heard of Martins being a disruptive influence in the dressing room. It's a longstanding culture in the eagles for the oldest player to be captain and undisputed leader in the team, mikel can never be captain with an enyeama in the team. The older players have always been disruptive in our national teams or you think a mikel can set the rules for martins? It's not a joke o! It has cost us real problems in the past world cups and afcon tournaments. You think all was well in the camp when yobo was present and enyeama was captain? Have you forgotten how enyeama quickly handed over the afcon trophy to yobo in 2013. We can't simply afford those distractions in the world cup with the group we are in. Our players are not oyinbos for Christ sake despite playing in europe, na thick african blood dem get where seniority na big matter |

Kog45: Thank you my brother. This has been my point of argument that we don't need players that would disrupt the peace and bond in the team.
Thanks Amaju for attesting to it that the spirits is awesome and has contributed to the success of the team.
A lot always forget how some players like Enyeama,Ike Uche,Osaze Odenwengie have been find wanting in eagles camp.
Vincent Enyeama as Eagles captain went on air to condemn the choice venue for Eagles match instead of meeting with NFF personally to express his view but went behind his team mates to express his displeasure to the media. Also his unceremonious exit from Eagles is still fresh though Olishe didn't showed enough maturity in handling the situation but Enyeama too went extreme with his behavior, no matter what he should have remained with the team and carry on just like Mikel did or what do you want us to say about Musa who was stripped too of captain band by Siasia and also vice captain by Rohr but still remain with the team, this show great character of a leader.
Osaze was one of the most indiscipline player i ever seen in eagles but a lot will not agree cos they forget easily. The same Osaze had a terrible issue with Lagerback at WC when he was benched for Chinedu Obasi, went on air that employment was a mistake on the part of NFF cos he distrupted eagles plan.He also had issue with Samson Siasia at Olympics 2008 forcing Siasia to benched him, after the tournament he said it openly Siasia wasn't ripe as a coach. The same thing happened between him and Keshi and some with short memories want him back.
Ike Uche should have been one of the greatest Nigeria striker but messed up during Afcon 2013 by went behind to meet NFF technical man Chris Green that Keshi lacks it tactically, this was prior to quarter final match against Cote d'voire. This was the reason Keshi was hell bent that Ike will not make his team to WC but Keshi keep on citing that Uche doesn't play with the team.
We do not need these types of players who would not be happy to sit on the bench or always castigating their coach tactics approach to the games. What we need now are players that will consolidates on our build up not the ones that w come to camp and started showing discourse.
Truly if Rohr need them especially Martins and Enyeama no issue cos i don't doubt their qualities but can they abide by the rules and regulations of the team, that's my concerns nothing more. God bless you Sir, well said |

edi287: I'm starting to think when it comes to Nacho, some people lose any sense of rational thinking on here. We've seen people say Nacho is better than Martins was at his age despite a young Martins raping Nesta and Maldini then. Now we're hearing Martins was a flop for SE despite scoring being our 5th highest goal scorer and having scored 11 in his first 15 games. Funny thing is most are only advocating for Martins to be a squad player/impact sub. What is there to be afraid of?? If he flops at the friendlies - don't invite him. It's not that hard I agree but who will captain martins? mikel? This is where the problem is, it's a cultural thing in the eagles set up that the oldest player captains the team to avoid unnecessary squabble. This is what most of us are concerned about. A martins or enyeama inclusion in that team right now will upset the team balance and we know it. Remember that oliseh had to stylishly freeze mikel out of the team to make musa captain and after oliseh left, the captain band had to be returned to mikel to balance the team again. Moreover let's stop using the past heroics of martins to justify his inclusion, the martins that was raping nesta and maldini in the past is not the same martins today. let's be honest |

edi287: Martins is not my favorite player. I've watched a few of his games and feel he is a good option to come from the bench. If anything, it's Nacho that has been defended on here despite flopping as a lone striker and a China based Ighalo showing him how to play as a lone 9. nacho has scored great goals for Nigeria during the wcq and in the international friendly against argentina, hence its easy for him to be defended, the ighalo you said that taught him how to play lone 9 has scored how many goals for Nigeria compared to nacho? talking should be done on the pitch for the national team for any player. Martins never leave up to that expectation in his recent appearances for the eagles and that's a fact. |

They are good - forget that Arab stereotype we have.
They are hands down better than South Korea & Japan (both of whom I feel will finish bottom of their respective groups).
Iran is better than Morocco IMO Morocco may not survive that group except either of portugal or spain flop and if i remember well, that iran pepper us and argentina at the last world cup so it's really a group of death. Morrocco will need to be extra good to come out of the group. |

Nigeria Rohr – Super Eagles Door Still Open To New Players, Why I Want Osimhen In My Team Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has overruled his chief scout Victor Agali who said the coach already knows the players he will be taking to the World Cup in Russia next year. Appointed by Rohr to scout for new players ahead of Nigeria’s campaign at the World Cup, Agali said Rohr is not really searching for new players as he plans to build and prosecute the World Cup with the players presently in the team. Agali made it known in a television programme in Lagos monitored by Owngoalnigeria.com, but Rohr has now revealed that the door is still open to new players , and also revealed why Wolfsburg Victor Osimhen is in his plans despite his lack of game time for his German side. ” We have friendly games lined up next year to try some new players in our team, and also give opportunity to some players who are with us but are yet to be tested. “More players will come in. The likes of Victor Osimhen, young players, quick players. The door is still open. The list is not done yet. We have the possibility to get 30 players.” Rohr told Source: owngoalnigeria.com it's only a coach who doesn't know what he is doing that will prefer martins to younger players. Except there are injuries to our current forward players, martins chances are very slim only forgiveness thinks otherwise. The younger players are hungry to make a name like we saw during the wcq and the Argentina friendly. what is martins hungry for? fame, he has it, money, very plenty. old players just want to be a part of the world cup jamboree, that's all. Martins has nothing to prove again. same thing with enyeama. |

edi287: Keshi decided to invite Uche for our last game in the qualifiers instead of earlier on. He didn't have a great game but do we judge him by just that game? Didn't Lukman Haruna score in one of our friendly games before the world cup in 2010?? He didn't flop in every match he played. Martins can have an impact in this team. Ighalo was posting few average performances before he got dropped and then Rohr reinvited him after deciding he needed a target man. Nacho has had bad games as well. I repeat, If Ighalo from the same "weak" Chinese league is our first choice CF, then martins can do a job from the bench. Simple as that. you guys have a way of defending the flop of your favourite players even when its glaring to all |

So, if dem no put Martins as CF, nothing for the team? Some people no know say we no dey 1997 again, we need players that are in 2017 please, not all those old system players with moses, mikel, iwobi, iheanacho and Ighalo, these folks have got lots of goals in them, rohr just need to ginger them to work together more as a team and we will be fine, gradually modern football has moved a bit from just having traditional cf, as the greatest players we've seen in recent times are not traditional cf in the mould of messi, cr7, neymar and co. |

Gbam. which world cup? trust me bruv personally I would have loved for martins to be in russia but on the bench to just come in occasionally but you know what, keeping an old player like martins on the bench as far as our Nigerian culture is concerned will breed problems for the team like we saw in the case of yobo in afcon 2013. [we had issues with the older players in 1998 world cup if you remember] I agree with Kogi45 who says enyeama and martins should be left out so as to keep the team unity. They are not bigger than Nigeria and they can't be missed that much. That's the fact and it's also time we look ahead with the younger folks we have now. Russia 2018 will not be the end of football.
