pedrilo: go and check 2015 election result, we dnt need majority of northern votes, once we get a handful from the three geopolitical zones in the north, plus majority votes from SS/SE, plus ekiti, we are good to go! Thank God you are facing reality now but ekiti can't give you enough votes to do the magic. You still need to get more votes from the SW to do it and that's where the problem lies again, majority of South westerners just like northerners won't vote for northerner with a running mate from the SE. Me think the pdp chairmanship going to the SS is a ploy to give The SW the VP slot [the Fayose connection], reason I said the SE will be played again. An APC northern candidate with a running mate gain from the SW will edge it against a PDP northern candidate with a running mate from the SE. Think about it. |

pedrilo: wait a minute, u guys from SW tink too much of urselves pls! the SS/SE is already PDP, a strong northern presidential candidate will divide northern votes unlike 2015 where Buhari floored GEJ in the north, ur SW vote plus a divided northern vote cannot do the magic this time around. cheers majority of northerners will never vote for a northerner candidate with a running mate from the SE, take that to the bank. The SE will be played again in 2019 and more cries of marginalization will follow. |

safarigirl: how many CFs did Spain use on their road to the World Cup in 2010?
I think the problem most people insisting on two CFs are having is that they have not left football of the 90's and they still think football teams need CFs.
They are called Forwards these days...and the term is all encompassing for whoever is in front. So, whether it's a winger, a striker or a false 9....they are forwards and their job is to score goals.
We have Iwobi, Iheanacho, Moses x2, Ighalo, Musa in that role already. We have one CF and he does not even have the goal scoring records of the none CFs, so, what is all this noise about?
Even the Croatian coach in that news article stated clearly that our attack is VERY VERY dangerous....without the CFs you people are insisting on. Is that not what we need?
What will ANOTHER CF bring that we don't already have? I had mentioned this before in one of my posts, the players you have mentioned have lots of goals in them. with the one touch play that the eagles are beginning to perfect now, even our defenders will score. football has evolved, apart from the croatian coach, even messi is worried and insisting that higuain must be back to their squad. our forward line presently is deadly, not many defences can cope with the speed of a moses on the right and iwobi on the left before you you even talk of the other players. |

Mujtahida: This is a serious matter ooo because one bad egg is all it takes to spoil so much good work. Aimee Jacquet dropped the excellent Ginola and superb Cantona and built his WC winning team around a young Zidane. We all remember the problems Anelka caused Dominech and Balotelli fighting with Mancini. This is a strong point oo. Being a good footballer is not enough. these players have got issues, not all coaches can cope with their idiosyncrasies so prevention is better than cure, case in point conte felt he had enough of costa so he let him go simple. |

komekn: Consider how you are thinking and rationalising motivation and determination.
Using your sense of reasoning that means Ronaldo, Messi and Danny Alves after achieving everything they are no longer motivated for excellence.
Furthermore that the main determinant of hunger motivation and desire to win is being young. That's waste basket reasoning. Isaac Success had a little money and what happened to his desire to win and succeed
Those are nonsensical propositions with no substance what so ever. your comparison has no basis, most african players are generally known not to be hungry for success for their national teams after making fame and money. case in point, the average Cameroonian still feels samuel eto after all his huge success at club level never contributed much to the national team. With all the fame abaumeyang[sorry for my spelling error], what has he offered the Gabonese national team? Even the great drogba under performed for ivory coast and never won any trophy for them so what are you saying? Comparing martins to messi and ronaldo. Jesus Christ! Now this ain't funny any more. Mujtahida: There's nothing more delicate for us to guide than the team spirit. We can fail tactically on the pitch and still win matches but if we fail in maintaining the team spirit we will achieve nothing even if we have Gaurdiola as our coach. France in 2010 WC, Italy in Euro 2008, Ghana, Nigeria and Cameroun have suffered from disaffection that destroys harmony in the team. We cannot afford to make that mistake again. That being said does Martins have a record of insubordination like the rest you have mentioned? I feel Rohr will invite him to assuage his supporters but still drop him for the final cut. But question is what if he performs well? Martins got issues with Eguavoen for failing to turn up for a particular tie if I remember well. Truth is the coaches and the nff still knows this players more than us on this forum, the fact that we hardly hear in in the media does not mean stuff don't happen in the team off the pitch even wikipedia has it on record where martins failed to turn up for some matches despite being invited. Some off the pitch issues in the past with nff officials especially in a match against Namibia if I remember is one major reason no nff official will want Enyeama near the eagles ahain and even enyeama himself knows this. I still insist that any player older than mikel both in age, in long serving in the national team and not part of the wcq should be left out for now. |

Icon4s: Martins came in before Mikel. But Mikel has stayed longest in the team by virtue of his number of appearances.
Martins has been on and off.
But also Ogbeche came in before Enyeama and if Ogbeche makes the team who would you say is more Senior between him and Enyeama? ok so martins senior mikel be that sefini, ogbeche senior enyeama be that. In Nigeria, in work places especially the civil service under which structure the eagles is being managed, seniority is by who go into the service earlier. Simple |

Goke7 oya come clear the air here. oh sorry I don't know that this was a bone of contention, I simply mean a player who came into the Eagles fold earlier, looks like both martins and mikel came in same time if I remember right? so based on that can we say who is actually more senior? |

forgiveness: Iheanacho flopped big time in his first two games for the SE and several times as a CF. Why you no want talk about this truth? Oh! The truth is bitter. Iheanacho as a young player can still be pardoned but not a player of martins status. Why? Iheanacho still has a lot of years to play for the Eagles but not martins who is close to retirement. we can't afford a trial and error with martins for now when we have hungry younger players who are looking for just 10 mins, how much chance have we given to the likes of kayode and onyekuru before we talk about martins. You've been crying out for the likes of Kayode nah |

komekn: That's not a measure of success and the basis for exclusion.
You consider it from another perspective if we were running without him if he had been in the team be would have been flying. Imagine the SE with him not without him and how much better he could be. so how much has the team been better with martins in recent times. A great player brings so much value to the team like we see an experienced mikel whenever he plays. The Eagles have now qualified for the wcq and suddenly we remember we can be better with a martins. Doesn't work like that bruv. It took just 45 mins for us to know how much value ebuehi and an idowu can bring to a team, martins was handed same chance in the recent past[when in mls and even in china] and he failed to deliver yet we keep insisting he should be recalled on the basis of his exploits back in milan and newscastle. SerVik: Here you go again. Stop living on past glory, this is the same way you've been embarrassing yourself with Alampasu's clean sheet against Porto 2years ago now it's uche's top scorer award in 2010. Uche was invited in 2014 for nations cup qualifiers, he did nothing special. Against congo he scored from the penalty spot, he did not win the penalty, emenike did. Against south Africa, we needed Sone Aluko's brilliance to earn a draw, again ike uche was on the pitch, nothing special. Truth is we have a special spot for certain players and when those players don't live up to expectations, we try to find certain excuses, just as you are using injury as an excuse to justify haruna's atrocious performance. Was haruna certified fit or not for the game? That haruna's performance was one of the worst performances I have ever seen from a professional. Injury or not, he flopped.

Kog45: Gok man good you said culture which mean we have imbibed it but not written rules.
The captain of a team can only be decided by a coach, comes tomorrow if Rohr said Mikel is no longer the captain that's it.Remember old Musa was removed as vice captain for younger Onazi, mind you Echiejele is still in the team
When Rohr was appointed the first thing he said was Mikel remain my captain just to set the record straight that am not ready to appoint another captain.
Let's go down to memory lane a bit on eagles captain, hope you still remember afcon 1984 Muda Lawal was the oldest with 4 afcon appearance but young Keshi was the captain.
Paul Hamilton made Andrew Uwe his captain at the despite having older players like Peter Rufai, Henry Nwosu,Ademola Adeshina even when Keshi came back fully during afcon and Olympics qualifiers in 1987,Andrew Uwe was still the captain
Hope you remember how Alloy Agu captain the team during early Westerhoff era with the presence of Ademola Adeshina,Andrew Uwe,Rasheed Yekini.
There was never a time Enyeama captain Eagles with the presence of Joseph Yobo in camp.Enyeama only captain the team on the field if Yobo find himself on the bench and this happened at Afcon 2013,this made Enyeama to handover captain band to him in the final to collect the cup.
The same scenario played itself at Tunisia 94 when Austin Eguavoen handed over captain band to Keshi after final game to collect the cup.
Remember Sunday Olishe was made the captain at the expense of older Finidi George 2000-2002 and no issue on it.
It was only Chuckwu(1980)Keshi(1990-1994)Austin Okocha(2002-2006)Kanu (2006-2010)Yobo(2010-2014)Enyeama (2014-2016)now Mikel, these are the beneficiaries of oldest being the captain.
My man it all depends on coaches decision cos a lot of things are put into consideration before a captain of the team is chosen. Great post but @the bolded, this is what has made it a precedence in the team and we know how Musa being made captain by Oliseh unsettled things. This was what rohr noticed that made him stick with Mikel. Even in other national teams in the world, we see how the captain band issue can be a problem among senior players from Germany to Ghana, it can be very sensitive. |
