leave them now.

Anyway, I am used to this, four years ago Odemwingie was the player that fans and the press shoved down Keshi's throat, today it is Martins being forced down Rohr's coach

Funny enough, Keshi was supposed to be the egunje coach, but Martins couldn't raise enough money to force his way into his team. Shows how lowly Keshi though of him.

Na now with better players na im Martins wan come? May this campaign be unsuccessful.
we once had both martins and odemwinge at their prime in the world cup and we could not pass the first round. Now martins has suddenly become cr7 we can't do without. chai

How is that an issue? Brain Idowo came through from the defence and did Argentina bad thing. Even small Ebuehi would would have gone home with an assist from the defence too.

Like I said earier, With all his hype here, I don't expect him to be average, We have enough average already. If we are going to get another average, it shoudn't be an old Martins but rather a young lad
Epic!!!

The best has not always been preferred in Nigeria national team.

Can you explain why Martins who was capped in 2004 has only 40 caps while Mikel and Ahmed who were capped in 2006 and 2010 has 82 and 63 caps.

Martins who was capped in 2004 has 40 capps and he is the 5th highest goal scorer with 18 goals for the national team. He is just behind Yakubu and Ike Uche who are the third and fourth with 21and 19 goals and had been capped more than him with 58 and 46 caps.

As you can see Martins statistics is better than the aforementioned players.
You have not responded to the guy who told you how martins failed to deliver under keshi with the chance given to him why are you avoiding that? If Martins had delivered under keshi, don't you think he will still be in the team till now? both ahmed and mikel delivered under keshi and are still delivering reason why they are still in the team.

looks like we all have forgotten that we won afcon 2013 and qualified for 2014 world cup without martins so what's this fuss all about.

The key lies with who Atiku chooses as his VP candidate. If he makes a mistake of choosing those people like I warned in my other thread, he would lose the election before the actual polls and casting of ballot. We don’t hate any tribe but we only say what is in the mind of millions of Nigerians.

Fayose has a cult following amongst Christians. Atiku can always avail himself of the Fayose resource. Fayose is a thorn in Buhari and extremist muslims’ flesh. He is there for Atiku’s picking.
so you are now supporting atiku another muslim abi? He will islamize Nigeria o.

Well, you are right so, let us FLIP this your arguement:

1.) Is it not possible that if not for the contribution of Enyeama in the goal post (with his goal-saving skills), maybe we wont even qualify for those World Cup.

2.) Maybe if we take Enyeama along this time, maybe we would get past where we would have ended, maybe his skills will take us even to the final, this time around?

A lot of "Ifs".

But the bottom line is "every country takes their BEST to the World Cup Competition".
Unless yo are saying this guy or any of our current Keepers are BETTER than Enyeama?

I am sure you wont dare to say that. undecided undecided

Stop hating on your Best players, it is what kills a team
.
does enyeama have a club presently to indicate he is better than the other goal keepers or we are relying on his past heroics

The young man isn’t ripe for the Eagles.

At 18, and not even the first choice keeper for his bundesliga 2 side. I think he is not ready for the big stage. If he is passionate about playing for Nigeria, he should come to the Flying Eagles camp and prove himself.

We should be careful of relegating our local league and giving so much privileges to European players of Nigerian descent. Playing for some unknown team in Europe shouldn’t automatically qualify one to be invited to the Eagles camp.
when you have an European coach, what do you expect? No foreign coach will give a damn about your local league. Let's tell ourselves the truth

If he gets a call up before the WC and either doesn't feature or fails to score, I will be around to mock all his supporters.
grin No they will tell us that the coach did not utilize him well just like when they accused Kehsi even when martins fail to take the two chances keshi gave him.

We Nigerians are very funny, what do we really want to achieve at the world cup, just to appear and parade aging players all in the name of experience? Can martins guarantee goals in the world cup that will make Nigeria get to the quarter finals. This is how we made a case for yobo at the last world cup and the rest they say is history.

Our older players just want to appear at the world cup which is the dream of any player, but in terms of superlative performance, they are never hungry enough, am not deceived. I will not even support an enyeama in the world cup and pls am not also moved by former player's performance for their clubs months going to the world cup to whip up more sentiments for their inclusion in the world cup squad where we have players who sweat it out during the qualifiers who were truly hungry. Am scared cos with the way we are going calling all manner of names to go to the world cup, we may be heading for disaster.

I don't buy that Nigerian factor excuse;maybe I don't have information others are privy to but to me to say Nigerian factor is just a lame excuse, a overly simplified way to look at Iheanacho's situation. What of Ahmed Musa? Nigerian factor too? Why hasn't Nigerian factor affected Victor Moses?

All this being said I still do not think we should gloat whenever our players are in the deep end because personally it pleases me when our players do well. We need all of them in top shape for the World Cup. Iheanacho will come good in time. Victor Moses had it rough but today he's an important player for Chelsea. Hardwork +time+opportunity +grace/luck =success. I wish him all the best.
thank you jare, we are always too quick to rubbish our players when they are on the bench in their clubs, we did it to mikel, even moses [can't even still believe that with all his progress so far some nigerians still think he is not good enough for the bbc award] Iheanacho will have his time soon, is it not the same player that was making the headlines at city when pellegrini was in charge?

Nigerians are just fair weather fans, it's only in the good times they talk good about our players. we don't have or even tried to cultivate the culture of standing by our players when they have their down times, it's very very bad of us. Am still thanking God till now that we qualified for the world cup, if not by now almost all our players would have committed suicide from the words of Nigerians especially in these days of social media. God help us o!

Firstly, Mikel has never been fast to be diplomatic.

Ighalo is fast but not the fastest.

Obagoal has always had blistering pace but even if he has lost some of it he may still be one of the fastest in the team.

In terms of technically astute football one touch and quick movement Obagoal is probably better than most. He has played at the highest level more so than any of the new boys on the block. You may loose speed but not your touch.
better than the current youngsters in the SE in terms of quick movement? hmmmm truth be said obagoal cannot be the same player we knew back in the days at Newscastle pls

What is zeal without discipline, without consistency, without diligence, without focus, continous improvement and a desire to win at every opportunity.

There is no team chemistry without quality

There is a component that is essential to drawing different men together and propelling them to success. Men of outstanding quality and ability beyond the normal. They create assurance of probable victory, which in turn births confidence and the courage to pursue and obtain VICTORY. Success pulls the team together not failure.

When you have quality there is the probable assurance of victory. When you don't have quality you have the higher probability of failure. The possibility of failure breads discord and mistrust and conflicting divergence. That is what destroys team spirit a lack of confidence in your ability to overcome.

Why is Argentina a mere shadow of themselves without Messi. Imagine Portugal without Ronaldo or Brazil without Neymar and Gabriel or England without Kane and our lost son Dele. Top quality players are the pillars that make the team great.

The call to the national service of the SE is recognition of outstanding performance, your earn the right by merit. Not the probability of assumed team cohesion.

Your proposition is an affront to merit and the enthronement of mediocrity.

If you are performing in your league and in a better league and or an outstanding quality player, your call is by merit not assumed team cohesion.

Consistency over time is the definitive component in top quality players. Consistently being on top of the game. One hit wonders do not become top quality players.

I didnt call for Osaze or Tiawo they are not on top of the game. However Joel Obi outside of Mikel is the most consistent top quality midfielder we have currently.

Obagoal over the past ten years is the most continously present and past consistent striker we have now.

As it stands KC is the untouchable darling of many. He is essentially potential yet to be fully realised. He has not been consistent at club level indeed far from it. He has not scored one goal in the EPL this season. Compare him to Obagoal when the chips are down who would you rather havehuh KC is learning the trade and still handicapped in that he is overly left foot biased. Obagoal is tested and proven and we'll schooled graduated with honours.

If Obagoal had the same level of opportunity as KC I wonder what his goal tally would be for the SE.

It's not how long ago you were in the SE, but what quality you have and can presently bring to the table.
Obagoal had his chances with keshi, so what happened? Let's be cautious here with the present style of the SE which involve speed and one touch play, are you sure obagoal can fit in? I keep hearing about calls for this player but are we sure he rake in the goals we see him do in china? we even see how mikel and even ighalo struggle to keep up pace with the speed of folks like moses and iwobi.

We should consider this carefully and not moved by only stats in a chinese league

No political ideology, even the parties self, they don't have any identity except corruption which is a common denominator among all of them.

This Ivorian team is nothing compared to the CIV of Toure, Drogba and Kalou, do not think Zaha, Aurier and Bailly have that fighting spirit those guys had.

This CIV team is a downgrade to that last team just like this Algerian team is a shadow of what they were when they ended Egypt's chances four years ago.

You people will agree to anything from a white man and won't even analyse properly.

sad Fulanis are been persecuted for going about their normal businesses. How can you expect Fulani herdsmen to confine their cattles to a ranch when we know they have the right to graze their cattles in any part of the country as Nigerian citizens? The law says any Nigerian can live and work in any part of the country so we should learn to tolerate the Fulani herdsmen. Why can't we confine the Igbo's who travel all over Nigeria for business to the east but instead Fulanis? Are there no bad people amongst the migrating igbos? We rely on their cattle for meat and milk production but instead of encouraging their business we're banning them. Fulanis are peaceful people, the killers posing as fulanis are cattle rustlers. I hope miyetti Allah win this case in court. We say no to ranching sad

their points are very weak, before now they have been threatening hell if the anti grazing law is passed now they are beginning to realize that alas they are strangers where they have been perpetuating all their atrocities. Simple solution is that they need to start acting like true businessmen and stop relying on free land for their cattle, you wanna do business? acquire the land legally, pay for it and be ready to comply with all extant laws and regulations, the days of freebies in Nigeria are coming to an end, we now even pay for the thrash we dispose from out houses now. The Fulanis must wake up to 21st century realities

AN OPEN LETTER TO THE NFF AND THE SUPER EAGLES COACHING CREW FROM MEMBERS OF THE NAIRALAND SUPER EAGLES FANS BASE.

We are ardent followers and supporters of the Super Eagles. Most of us may not make the trip to Russia, we cannot be with the coaching crew, we are not part of the NFF, neither can we kick the balls with the players. However, we can only make our little contribution by way of advice to the NFF and the Coaching crew.We believe firmly in the ability of this team to perform creditably well because we have both the footballing and administrative personnel to make it happen.

We are an assembly of fans who have seen the game for several decades and have followed it with burning passion all through the years. We have extensively X-rayed the reasons for the disappointing ends to our past World Cup outings and hence provided some tips for both the NFF and the coaching crew to critically look into:

1. The need for the NFF to sort out issues of bonuses and players’ welfare on time: We sincerely appreciate the current effort being put in place by the NFF to ensure that bonuses and allowances issues are sorted out ahead of the World Cup. This is a commendable step towards avoiding players boycotting of training session as witnessed in the last World Cup.
2. Majority of the players who qualified the team should be kept. Only players who are better than the current crop should be added. Introducing too many new players had its negative effects in our 2002 and 2014 campaigns. The team should also be a good mix of youth and experience as we hope to achieve a balanced transition in the team even beyond Russia 2018. The best players should be selected devoid of favoritism.
3. Quality pre-World Cup warm up games: We have started with an excellent one with Argentina and should continue in that line. Perhaps a top European and or Asian Opposition would not be bad for us in March, 2018. We propose camping in Russia where we expect high profile friendlies in the window leading to the World Cup
4. Instilment of high level of discipline in the team: This is to curb “over-confidence”, lack of team play by some players, segregation in the team and excessive celebrations both on and off the pitch: These kind of attitude had negative effects in our past world cup outings.
5. Updated FIFA rules must be understood by players and coaches to avoid naïve situations. A simple case in time is with our goalie – Daniel Akpeyi in our most recent friendly against Argentina. Also the same Argentina used it against us at the 1994 World Cup. Ie Cladio Caniggia and Diego Maradona. Also players taking off jerseys to display inscriptions should be kicked against.
6. Our players should learn to react to tackles in such a way as to influence the ref’s decisions in our favor. We have been victims of influenced or lack of influenced referee’s decisions in past world cups. Eg Onazi’s tackle against France in 2014 World Cup would have been a Red Card for Matuidi if the Nigerian players close to the action had reacted appropriately. Brahimi would have been sent off if Shehu had gone down after being head butted amongst others.
7. The technical bench should be fortified to world standard. The NFF should also engage the services of world class sports psychologist and physios

We believe so much in this Team. The NFF and the entire coaching crew are doing a Super Job with the Super Eagles. We can only hope for the Super Eagles to Fly above all expectations come Russia 2018.
Excellent! glad to have been part of this, already we are beginning to see good signs, as for the first time the issues of bonus and allowances have been sorted out already by nff and the players. Also for the first time we have started playing grade A friendlies with the Argentina match which was a spectacle admired by football fans all over the world. I have a football app on my phone which gives goal alert and goals highlights as any match is going on. I was proud to even see Uzoho's brilliant save, Iheanacho's free kick and Iwobi's second goal as major highlights of that game with an headline 'Argentina disgraced' mhen I felt on top of the world as a Nigerian.

I believe it can only get better now cos I keep having this feeling that the folks in the glass house reads our comments here and looks like they take our suggestions seriously. God bless Nigeria. @ Icons, well done bruv and to every distinguished member of this forum, I hail.
